Cannot Connect to Wifi - Nook Touch General

For some reason I can't connect my nook to our router that has a password. However, tethering the nook to my phone without a password works perfectly fine. Disabling the password is not an option since other people use it.
Does anyone know what the issue might be?

No, it should not have MAC filtering. I just checked the router configuration page and as far as I can tell, it's not enabled.

Try the 1.0 libnetutils.so
Try replacing the libnetutils. Instructions here.
Remember to backup the old binary (.so).
Good luck!

WI-FI Problem

Hi All,
i switch wi-fi on and the phone find the access point and connect to it. But it doesn't navigate to the net or market or anything else. Otherwise if I use the 3G it works perfectly. Just try to initialize it twice. Same problem.
Some suggestions?

Hmmm, could be a multitude of different things. A few questions:
1 Are you rooted?
2 What security settings do you have on your router?
3 Have you ever been able to connect to the web thru your router?
Answer them and I will try to help.

Hi MrZak,
1) phone is not rooted, unboxed 16 hours ago;
3) I always use the router with a mac and a pc on windows xp
2) I do have some doubt about the router (it's a cisco linksys). Even iPad has several connection problem BUT, i tried a different router last night (3Com) and it doesn't work too while iPad works fine.
Firstly, update the phone from:
Settings / About Phone / System Software Updates
If that doesn't help, try a factory reset.
Also, when you go into your router settings is the phone showing up under devices?

It could be a simple IP problem. Try with static address and see if you can access your LAN and internet.

It doesn't work BUT... I tried with the 3com router this morning doing a simple "restore default" in browser web. It worked. I tried to do the same at home with the Cisco Linksys router and... it doesn't work. Could it be the router?

Can you please try to put a static address and ping it from the local network. Preferably ping it from a computer that is connected to the router via cable rather than wireless. If you can ping it, the problem is definately with the router. Also please check if you have MAC security enabled on the router. If you do, you'll have to add the DHD's MAC address to the table.
EDIT: Or you can try to install ping from the market and see if you can ping your router.

Try connecting through an unsecured network like some coffee's hotspot and if it still doesn't work, it's faulty. Until then, it's more likely to be your network setup.
Edit: just read your previous posts again. You say that it worked with the 3Com router, so it's not a problem with the phone. Check the security settings on the Cisco router. Check if it's using AAA/RADIUS server, MAC table, etc. The fact that it connects but no traffic passes through is symptomatic to a security problem, not a hardware one.

[Q] Limited connectivity wifi issue

I just bought a Rogers arc and everything is great so far, except the wifi. For whatever reason when i try to connect to my home network, although it recognizes it and connects i get a "limited connectivity" which effectively does not allow me to use wifi at all. ive tryed rebooting the phone and reseting my router (which is a D-link DI-524.) any help would be appreciated.
you could go in the router settings and register the phones mac address to a ip of your choice. it should do the trick i think...
I finally figured out what the problem was, i had to update the firmware on the router and then manually add the MAC address like dogggie said and after a reboot voila!
I don't want to make another thread since my problem is similar to this one. So in my school there is a hiden Wi-FI network and it has got a password, but we know Name and Password, so we can connect to Wi-Fi. But here is the thing: My friend who has SGS2 connect's without any problems, but everytime I try to connect to Wi-FI i get "Limited Connectivity" mesage. Is there any way to fix this? Can I somehow get Gateway and Netmask from router, so I can set static IP on my phone or sometheing like that?
Thanks for answers.

I have the same problem. Hidden Wi-Fi in school, limited connectivity. Works for some people, doesn't for most.
I have used CM7 for some time and the Wi-Fi worked with it, but I flashed the stock ROM back and now, again, it doesn't work.

Today it works. I have just manual set gateway, DNS servers, netmask and my own IP.

wi-fi won't connect to my Verizon DSL wireless router. The Tab has v3.0.1 software.
I've read about plenty of wi-fi issues with the 3.1 upgrade, but, are there know issues with v 3.0.1 software.
I am looking for suggestions and help. Thanks

I never got connected. It says trying to obtain an IP address, or something like that. I also tried several resets using the paper clip procedure to no avail.
And is your router secured with a key? If so, were you prompted to add it before trying to connect? Did you add it correctly?

It can't get an IP address unless it has the WEP key to connect to it.
I take it your router isn't secured then.
Or maybe it's different for DSL *shrug* I don't know.

I may be wrong, but I think it must first have an IP address assigned to it by the router. Then, you must give the password to get connected.
That's how it works for my laptops and iPod Touches.

I don't know. That might very well be a "DSL" thing. But in order to connect to a wireless router (which has been secured with a WEP key) one must first add the WEP key to the device then, and only then, will the device be able to connect - not the other way around.
Don't confuse 'password' with 'WEP key'. While their job is similar (preventing unauthorized users from connecting) the lack of a WEP key prevents connection, period, while a password requires a connection first.
But like I said, for DSL routers, maybe it's different - the only thing I can think of would be for you to log into your router from your laptop/desktop and check the wireless settings to see if it is indeed secured with a key - if so, write it down and try again from the tab, making sure that you input the key before it tries to connect.
Of course it *could* be a hardware issue. but it sounds to me like you're missing something.

If it says it is still waiting for an IP address, I can't type anything in....WEP key or password. I may have not been clear with the problem. It "sees" my router, but is constantly trying to obtain an IP address. Sorry for the confusion.
There's no confusion. Of course it will see your router if the router is broadcasting its SSID. That still doesn't mean you *can* connect to it.
Log into your router and check if your wireless is secured with a key. If it is, then you need to add it to your tab *before* it can get an IP address. I can't be any clearer about that.

Ok, thanks. I know the WEP key. But I don't low how\where to enter it into the Tab. I would appreciate it if you could post step by step instructions. Up till now, I have been trying to follow what the Acer manual pdf says:
"If you did not connect to a Wi-Fi network when you first started your tablet, or want to connect to a new network, tap Apps > Settings > Wireless & networks to manage your connection settings. Alternatively, tap the Wi-Fi status icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
If Wi-Fi is not on, tap Turn on Wi-Fi, and wait for your tablet to detect nearby networks. Tap the name of your network and enter a security password, if needed."
Right. Click on the network, add the WEP key where it says 'password'.
I'll try it later when I get home from work and will post my results. Thanks for you help.
What you're doing sounds strange. I too have a DSL router, but it works no different than any other router I've ever had. I've had several Android devices including tablets, and they all work the same. When you try to connect to a protected network, it will prompt you for a password. It cannot obtain an IP without the password, this step occurs after the password verification.
I have had issues where my remembered networks just sometimes sit at "Obtaining an IP address...", and never connect. Usually a reboot solves this problem. I tend to have more issues with WPA networks than WEP, but almost nobody uses WEP anymore.
But, there really shouldn't be a trick to it. Click on the network and it will prompt you for a password (WEP or WPA, works the same). If you've already done this, try rebooting.
I've never had the experience that jostarr has, where I needed to enter a key before a password.
Otherwise, like one of the other posters stated, it could be a hardware issue.
Problem solved.
I tried the Factory Reset from the settings menu. It took a few minutes to reset and reboot. A s soon as I went to the Wi-Fi settings, it found my router, got great signal strength, and was asked for my password. It then connected immediately.
I then went to settings, and looked for any updates. It found the latest update, so I downloaded and installed OS v3.1. It took about 1 hour to complete the download and installation. My tab works great now. I could not be more pleased with it.
Many thanks to all on this forum and elsewhere who contributed their suggestions and advice.
congrats on solving your issue Jostarr. I'm happy you got it worked out.

Nexus 7 Won't Connect To Wi-Fi

Good afternoon everyone, just got back after picking up my Nexus 7 and for some reason I cannot connect to my work Wi-Fi. The tab is able to see the network, however, just shows "Connecting" and then "Obtaining IP Address" and then that is it. I have no problem connecting a home to the Wi-Fi, however.
The modem being used at work is an Actiontec Q1000, I believe it is Wireless N, is the tab not compatible with Wireless N...it appears to be, however, that is all I can think of?
Thanks in advance for the assitance!
Ok, really confused now as I was able to successfully connect to my Wi-Fi here at work with my laptop and iPad.
Don't understand why my N7 will connect at home yet not connect here at work (which is really where I need it)
try forgetting the network then try to connect again. if its a no go, reboot and try again. if still a no, go, download wifi analyzer. then try to connect from within there.

Appreciate the response, I have done everything from forgetting the network and trying, to wiping the device and trying.
Suppose when I get home and have access to my home Wi-Fi I will give that analyzer a try.
Thanks again.

It seems my unit is disconnecting from wifi after JR003D update, not sure if it did this with JR003C as I didn't have that update while I work..
Gonna have to test this at home. It seems like a similar problem with the SGS3.

Mine doesn't and it was working fine original stock before that last 2 updates.
I think it's an issue with 2.4 and 5 mhz radio.. I'll know once I'm home.
FOLLOWUP: Works fine at home, has problems with the same networks as my Samsung Galaxy S3 does. So I check it up to incompatible, problem with router, something to do with 2.4mhz and 5mhz switching on the router.
I'm having the same issue, it connected before the update but now it won't. :/
Anyone find a fix for this? I'm in the same boat. Wont' work from my home wifi (wifi is fine at home, all computers work as does my vita) went to dunkin donuts and it worked fine from free wifi. Do I have to return this?

On my router, I always have to set it to 145mbps "mode". 300mbps mode uses a different wifi "protocol" and it cuts out or disconnects on my phone and nexus 7.
Google your router model for instructions on how to change settings.

Sorry, I was a bit cryptic. On your Nexus 7 you need to set a static IP. One that is within your router's IP range. So for instance, your router has IP addresses from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.10
In the settings of your Nexus 7, go to wifi, make sure it is on. Select your network. Select "Forget". Now you need to login to your network. There is an "Show advanced options". Select that. In the subsequent dropdown menus you select "Static IP" and enter for example 192.168.1.110.
Fill in the other other information and you should be good to go.

static IP addr
You need to set up a static IP address in the N7 instead of using DHCP (which automatically set the addr from the router).
You need to select a static IP addr that is within range of the DHCP server in the router.

Wifi connection
Just a short note in case you have problem with N7 Wifi.
I had to enable SSID broadcast and disable MAC addr filtering for the N7 to connect to my
Linksys router for the first time. After this, I could disable SSID broadcast and re-enable
MAC addr filtering and N7 could still connect OK.
This might not be the correct thread to post this.
I seem to be having wifi issues.
A lot of can't connect to Play Store.
I keep doing a 'try again' and it then works

+1 for needing to use a static ip to connect to wireless router. Odd, a little annoying, not good for newbies!, but still not a big deal, so far really liking the device
DHCP worked for me
I did not have to use static IP addr; DHCP worked fine.
My only problem is I did not broadcast SSID and I enabled MAC addr filtering.
Once I enabled broadcast SSID and disable MAC addr filtering, my N7
connected up right away using DHCP; no need to set up static IP addr.

I have fixed mine.
There was no MAC address programmed to the device at factory. That's an omission. So the WIFI driver when activated after restart or by turning wifi off/on notices that and gives a temporary MAC address.
That address changes in the last bytes.
The solution is to write a WIFI MAC address with an appropriate tool. I did use SN_Writer just be careful to leave the other data alone.
I guess the same happens with the Bluetooth address but did not check that out yet.

Hello,
My Wifi tethering doesn't work ... when I'm putting on the wifi tethering, the other device connected on haven't Internet.
Could this Mac Adress be the problem ? or it's other one ?
Thx
I have the same problem at my place of work network. I have to keep adding different Mac addresses into the router.. I did log this bug with elephone, but surprise surprise nothing has been done to fix it
Wifi tethering works here. As for MAC address look at my post I linked before and follow that guide.
I wouldn't count on a official fix for already delivered phones. Maybe newer badges won't have the problem but as verified it is fixable.
Cheers
This works for me. Thanks a lot!
