[Q] Giffgaff 3G help please? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hey all, I have recently purchased an HD2 which is supposedly unlocked and I am hugely happy with it as its an awesome bit of kit!
I was disappointed with wind6.5 OS so I installed Android 2.3.7 through the SD method which is amazing!
However I am with the network Giffgaff that give me unlimited internet, but im having a problem with getting it working (3G) :/
I think it may be due to either:
- The phone isnt 100% unlocked? However I can send messages fine
- The particular Android 2.3.7 doesnt work well with Giffgaff (as its quite a new network)
Im really sorry if this isnt the right place to post, and I respect that if it isnt the post is removed.
Any comments/help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Tom

Help getting faster than 'Edge' on an O2UK HD2?!?!

Hi everyone,
Wondered if I can get a little help from the masters on the forums.
I've got a TMob UK HD2 which connects to the net on H, a friend got an O2 UK HD2 but he cannot get an internet connection on 3G or H, only edge.
Is this something that O2 have locked down with the phone, a setting somewhere I can change for him or are we looking at putting a new ROM on his phone?
Any help (or shared grumbles!) much appreciated.
Dj
make sure he has a fairly recent simCard, the older ones are not 3G enabled .. I've just changed to t-mobile from O2 as I found O2s 3g coverage to be no where as good as t-mobiles ..

Has he got a 3G enabled SIM?
Has your friend got a 3g sim card? I had the same problem with my x1 and got O2 to give me a sim card (they should swap it for you free of charge) and voila H all over...
Genius - that would be it. On further quizzing, he suddenly volunteers that he has had the same sim card since 99/2000.
Thanks for the help shadow and rp!

Unlocked HD2 with GoPhone SIM...MMS Help

Hey everyone, I've been a long time member/modder here. I have my first GSM phone now and am having an issue I can't figure out on my own. I have a tmobile branded HD2 thats unlocked, using an ATT GoPhone SIM card. I've got everything working great except MMS. I downloaded the ATT MMS fix, but that hasn't worked. I've also tried to manually set up the MMS settings. I've searched and searched, was wondering if anyone has a quick solution for me. Thanks!
Jay
find the regular connectionsetup.cab (have a look through my previous posts, i posted a copy a few days ago) and install that.
The tmous only has settings for t mo, whereas the regular one has settings for pretty much all the networks. ( I think it has at&t, not had any confirmation of that, but worth a try, far easier than manually setting it up)
I'm searching but can't find it. Any chance you can post it up? Thanks
Jay
kk, no worries
That link is a confirmed fix for anyone in the same position as me. Thank you for posting that .cab
Jay
Thanks for confirming. I have been giving that response out to at&t users for a while, but never bothered to get it confirmed.

[Q] Advice needed on unlocking and using android

hello, yes Im new here, well, i have been around a while lurking, however, I have not posted as you guys always seem to have an answer via the search button!
But.............. I have just installed gingerbread on the wifes HD2 after her moaning about windows 6.5, cant blame her to be honest!!!
I am so impressed with it I have bought a HD2 as well. I own a HTC Desire, which is good, but I like the size of the HD2. However, the HD2 I have bought is locked to Orange, if I run the install procedure for hyperdroid gbx v12 Iam I right in thinking I wount need to go out and get an orange simcard to do this?
Not a big deal I know guys, just looking for advice?
many thanks!
welcome! we were all lurkers at some time...
android/new roms/wp7 on your hd2 have nothing to do with the carrier lock; so putting on android does not change that status. if you have to use sim card a before android, you have to use sim card a after android. sorry.
contact your carrier to break free or search for some pay sites.
cherers.
Thank you for the very fast response!!
I guess I just thought that if I wiped out the operating system with android it would work fine , but I wasnt sure, must be an IMEI thing I suppose.
Thank you though, and i will get it unlocked ;-)

the “Hardware Radio Version”——0.0.0.0

Many guys have the same trouble as me.
We try many methods ,but our HD2 Still can not get on the Internet with our SIM card.
HELP!!
Yes, I have the same problem, anyone could help? Thanks.
Now I'm using NDT MIUI Stable V5.1, it just works fine.
But I still miss the WP7 Mango.
what a pity~
I Have the same problem!!!
Guys, it's a big relief to know that I am not the only one facing this problem!!! My radio hardware version shows 0.0.0.0. I have detailed the problem on my post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1443520
If you can go through it & add your experiences on this GPRS problem. Incidentally, is your mobile also a T-Mobile make?
Thanks,
Aaron

Yes,T-mobile
Hi Yjliang01,
My theory is that the radio version on a T-Mobile HD2 could have a different implementation as versus the Universal Euro version of the HD2.
But then again in Android, I have no problem of GPRS, infact it works fine. Maybe the driver implementation is different?
What are your thoughts?
Hi, new here so please bear with me. I've got WP7 Mango running nearly fine (odd seizure and reboot, some slow responses, sd card locked) am happy so far, had same problem as you guys re internet (ok on wifi though). Re-flashed radio with 2.15 rom, then set up the apn - access point name for T-Mobile UK - general.t-mobile.uk and all was well!
If not in UK on T-Mobile then I can only suggest you Google for your provider and apn to try to find out yours - good luck with that.
J.
Thanks on the update mate!
Is your HD2 a T-Mobile specific one?
Thanks
Hi sorry for taking so long to reply, yes, my HD2 was originally a T-Mobile specific one but having flashed about 4 or 5 WP7 roms it no longer displays any T-mobile stuff. I'm using pdaimatejam rom and it seems pretty stable now. It took about a week of adjusting settings and a lot of battery-out resets to get it here, miles better than Win 6.5 and from what I can see I would prefer WP7 over Iphone and Android. I'd like to hear from others on this.
Does anyone have this solution for this bugs ?
Regards
Symon
