Compare aokp to cm9 - Epic 4G General

Does any one know the pro/cons of 1 over the other? I'm running cm9 but considering trying aokp but want to hear other ppls opinions first

I believe there was already a thread like this.. will try to find it for you.
Found it. Not exactly what your asking but you could find your answers in it instead of waiting for them to build up over here. The only thing about it is its kinda outdated there's been several updates for both these ROMs since this thread has been made. Anyway, hope it helps.

This is sort of a rhetorical question, as everyone has different things they like and use with each rom.. just as there is not one universal "best phone" there is no "best rom" either.. that's the beauty of having an awesome community like this.. its very easy to try something (in this case aokp) for a few days and see if u like it.. if not.. nandroid back to cm9
I just think u are going to get a lot of opinions that don't really mean much in terms of if its the right rom for u

You can flash AOKP and CM9 back and forth without wiping your data (YMMV, at least I've never had a problem switching back and forth a dozen times or so). So keep both on your SD card and whenever you want to try the other just wipe your cache and dalvik and flash the other one. You'll be up and running in less than 5 minutes with all of your data intact.
The big difference is some customization stuff, lockscreens and notification drawer stuff. I like AOKP partially because I like having the lockscreen before my (work mandated) PIN since I got to within 1 accidental button click of wiping my phone while it was in my pocket having random incorrect pins being entered in.
Now that both are on 4.0.4 I dont notice a battery difference between them.

Exactly this. Battery's about the same, and it's very easy to switch between them (although make sure you're using a 3rd party launcher. AOKP will get rid of Trebuchet. I prefer Apex.)
AOKP has much more customization and updates in my opinion, however CM9 has more potential and awesome features AOKP won't have. Right now AOKP is better though.

If no one has mentioned it already (and I didn't see it) the FB contact intigration works on AOKP. The only nice thing about CM9 over AOKP is the 4G toggle in the status bar. IMO.
Otherwise the rumors are true -AOKP is generally better.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium

CM9 is really just stock AOSP with a couple tweaks. AOKP has more tweaks and is much better on battery. I recommend AOKP to anyone wanting AOSP

AOKP or CM9: Which do you prefer?

I personally have been enjoying AOKP due to the incredible amount of *functional* customization options.
Just wanted to see what everyone is preferring nowadays!
Cm9. For me, it just works.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Cm9.. its stable.. just sayin. =]
That and there are themes for it =P... just messing but I prefer cm9 just because it seems to work smoother than aokp. I just didn't like aokp unstability and constant lock ups that I was experiencing. Nothing against it just wasn't my cup of tea.

At this moment, AOKP is better but CM9 has much more potential.
I run em both for about a week after each update, but battery life is more important to me than all that speed you kids like. AOKP for now.

I Run CM7 but gotta give it to CM9 more supported
AOKP has been preforming wonderfully for me. Battery life is a big thing and AOKP seems to have an edge on my phone anyways.
I do like the fact that CM9 is more supported, but I will definitely agree with kenny that AOKP battery life is excellent. I don't have my screen on for more than an hour a day usually, so with the combination of that and the ability to disable data (where I work I get no 3G, eats my battery up) has provided me with more than ample battery life.
I really need to get back into development. Things now are WAY different than before; it seems like there is more of an opportunity to work on a variety of projects, which I like.

AOKP for me.had an all day meeting at a location with horrible signal and I walked out with 60% battery left.at work where there's a tower half a mile down the road I can't go five hours without plugging my phone in our it's dead on CM9

None of these Kangs would be possible without the CM9 team so big thanks to them. With that said AOKP is CM9 +, everything CM9 is and more except the missing 4G in the pulldown. The 4G widget needs to be used or turning it on in settings.

Deck's Ics And Drew's Ics Roms

Okay so i was wondering, Which Ics build do you guys prefer. As of right now the latest ics build for Decks is Pre-beta 9 and for Drew i think it's Alpha 1. But each have their differences and similarities. I honestly havent flashed Drew's p12 but i have flashed Deck's and let me tell you its an awesome rom. Its my favorite ics one out there. I just made this post to see what you guys here at Xda prefer and which one would rather use as your daily driver. Any comments or other rom suggestions are welcome.
Drews is now alpha. I've tried both an right now performance wise drews new one is a tad bit better for me although decks has more features

Yeah I know I flashed drew's a few hour ago and I'm seeing that it has less customization options. But I think I like decks a little more but there almost the same. But who knows well see future updates
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Agreed. I thinks drews latest is smooth as buttah. In fact, swiping in drawer, I've accidentally slid thru 2 panels lol. But it has very little in customization. I really muss that from AOKP.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
I love the stability of drew's, and am currently running it (about 48 hours), but certainly miss the "System" section of Decks PB9 in the menu. That thing had so many customization options that the alpha version of Evervolv does not have (that toolbox app has so few options).
All-in-all, I think I'm gonna nandroid back over to PB9 soon.
Yeah thats what i dont really like about drew's. It has little customization. But other than that their both great ics roms.
But does anybody know what the function for Themes is in Deck's settings? Like i've always seen it there but it's always empty.

Elements was an eclair rom which was a total rip off of superfrankenclean and kinda a joke The point was it makes as much sense to run regular aokp over m5 as it did there.

yes the latest aokp b40/ms6 and aokp Jelly Bean have a in-call volume settings menu that allows you to adjust mic gain/volume across speakerphone/earpiece/headset. Set the speaker phone mic gain around 12-13 and that will get rid of the echo. I believe its set to 26 by default.

Its actually my wifes phone. Ive tried clean rom and sleeper rom so far. Clean rom seems to freeze up occaisionally and sleeper rom froze up like every 5 min. Ill try your suggestions, thank you. It seems like the development for this phone isnt too up to date. I guess cause it id kind of old now. One question. Ive been doing full wipes, that is ok with this phone right? Ive noticed "no wipe" in some of the rom op.

A ROM with "No Wipe" in the OP just means it won't wipe your data when it installs.
It is always a good idea to wipe data, cache, and dalvik when flashing a new ROM.

Sorry to hear this LOL..........anywho The Peoples Rom should get you to where you want to be. MTD is a totally different animal if you ever have to go back to stock make sure to check repartition. MTD is where you want to be it is more stable in my opinion. Like someone else said always do a wipe unless you are updating from the same ROM like the nightlies for CM7. CM7 is butter both mine and my wife's Epics are on it and love it. The only reason neither of us are on CM9 is battery life.

You can do it yourself, just use the ns4g one as a base and "debug" until it's functional. The hardware is almost the same so it shouldn't be really hard at all
chunks are in use in the most current ck10 at this time.

if its based off of cm10 use cm10 as a base and take framework, app, libandroid_runtime.so, libandroid_servers.som libmedia_jni.so and media from the baked beans and (overwrite)merge them into a cm10 zip. dont release it though unless you do modifications such as fixes or such. and be sure to credit the respected devs.

it bootlooped because you didnt have the libs i stated a few posts above., now remember, it isnt for the faint hearted! it can be tedious.
go for it. there's an 1103 out now too but these latest builds have been giving me some hard times with google maps. I don't remember ever having the problem in the builds before the 28th. I do have it working with some clearing data, uninstalling, rebooting, permissions, blah blah toggle toggle witchcraft stuff and after wards it seems to work just fine with out any issue after. I honestly have no idea how or why it came up but I do see some other people mentioning gps stuff so hopefully it wasn't anything I did as I haven't changed my process in any way that can have that as a side effect. then again I haven't been doing clean installs like I used to always do, maybe it's that?
I didn't do a full port of that rom as I still don't see anything that special in it apart from aokp, slimbean, cm10, and all the other aosp like roms. besides the inverted apps the main appeal to baked looked like it's settings section and maybe the altered status bar which messes up some themes if I'm not mistaken. It'd be cool to see a xperia port over from the ns4g, or remjb/touchbean, or miui jb over another near cm stock experience.
I use cm10 as my base, then do my slimming, then do my merging, then my tweak adding (your fonts wont be stock if you use my base). If you're trying to pinpoint bugs in your learning process it'll be better to use the cm10 stock base over mine. I have logging disabled too so if you do want to try with my base enable it so you can pull some logcats.

Use the guide above from andy_nu then logcat. or if its from the nexus s 4g, its easier. If its from the nexus s 4g, copy meta-inf from cm10 as well as everything outside system. Then, copy vendor, lib/hw, firmware, cameradata, and etc/wifi from cm10. Then, copy etc/vold.fstab and vold.conf and bin/vold from cm10. Then edit the build.prop in the cm10 ns4g modem zip to have the same version info as the black bean rom and copy it over. Then, copy lib, bin, etc, and vendor (and everything besides app in /system of the ns4g modem zip. Also, add the boot.img of the ns4g cm10 modem zip.
Make sure you flash the ns4g modem if you don't already have it. its a bit easier to port roms using ns4g modems rather than epic modems because epic modems require framework hacks, and apktool can be frustrating.
