HTC Hero stuck on "Hero" screen

I received the "An update is available" pop-up yesterday evening, an update of 4,37mb. After accepting the update it starts downloading and when it finished it asked if I wanted to apply the update
When doing so, the screen turned black and after a while the "Hero" screen popped up. They said it could take up to 10 minutes, but I let it run for 40 minutes without any luck..
Also when I want to go back to the factory settings, it reboots and hangs on the "Hero" screen
If I remove the battery and start it back up it works, but without the update ( so still 1.5 )
I then tried to wipe the machine by pressing the Home, Back and Power button, which worked
So I was back in the phone with a clean install, but the same issue occured
I then called HTC who asked me to perform some steps, but none of them worked and I have to add that they did not sound like they knew what they were talking about..
I asked if there was a possibility to install the 4,37 mb update manually, but that was not the case according to him and asked me if I wanted to make an appointment to have the machine reconfiggured, which means I would lose it for 5 to 10 days
If there is no other solution I guess I will do that, but I first want to see if you guys have any suggestions

I'm thinking about installing RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.66_WWE_test_signed_NoDriver via HTC Sync ( found in [ROM] Official HTC Hero RUU ROM + Radio Links thread ) but I am worndering; what if this fails and I'm again stuck on the Hero screen, will it affect the current "install" ? Since I can always go back if needed now by removing the battery, I would like to keep that option ^^
Also, if I install that, will my phone still fall under the guarantee of HTC?

i have nearly the same problem..after trying to install the 2.1 update OTA i stuck in the HERO screen..hard reset won´t work..fastboot isn´t possible because of "remote : not allow".. also tried it with hboot..useless any other advices?

For you guys you might need the goldcard method used in my sig.

Started the Bootloader-USB and then the RUU...now installing the rom..hope this will work

well I would like to know if I will still be under the waranty (not sure if that is the correct term, i'm not english ) of HTC if I make such changes and it fails

well guys..starting fastboot and then RUU worked well for me. now having stock 1.5 rom and installing 2.1 OTA

what do you mean with starting fastboot?
I downloaded the RUU ( RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.66_WWE_test_signed_NoDriver.exe ) and it works if I doubleclick it, I can start installing it but I'm afraid to do so

by holding the back button and pushing the end-call button once (while still holding the back button) the fastboot menu will come up. while in fastboot menu, just start the RUU..the update will start.
but i don´t think you´ll need that, since you can boot your phone..i couldn´t, thats why i needed to do it this way

And HTC Sync is saying I should look for a correct ROM Number
That doesn't look good, does it?
Luckily the phone still starts!
Going to try it with RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoD river.exe now (since that is the version I need according to htc.com )

I'm in fastboot, how do I 'just start the RUU' ????
If I try hboot, it does nothing, says it can't find any files...
Help PLEASE!!

Figured it out.
Synced phone via htc sync and installed RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.66_WWE_test_signed_NoDriver
did the trick!

Called HTC again.. they said I need to wait before the official RUU for Belgium gets released (since they need to remove YouTube from ours )
I just hope that won't take ages

I have quite similar problem. I have installed 2.1 official ROM from Lox, but sometimes, it stucks on HERO screen. I have to pull out battery and boot again, then it boots fine. Is that problem known?

You need to use the goldcard method to "trick" the phone into a different number so the 'downgrade' can be issued.

downgraded my HTC HD2 TMOBILE USA FROM ROM VERSION 213.... TO 210.. EVERY THING WENT WELL THE COMPUTER SCREEN IT SAID SUSCESSFULLY UPDATED .BUT WHEN THE DEVICE RESTARTED IT IT STACKED ON STICK TOGETHER. AND AFTER MAYBE 50 TIMES RESET AND TOOK THE BATTERY OUT FINALLY IT STARTED BUT ANY TIEM WHEN I TURN OFF THE PHONE IT STACKS ON STICK TOGETHER . i have installed and reinstalled all the htc hd2 tmobile usa stock shiped roms but still it stacks and then ihave to take the battery or press the reset butoon some 40 and 50 times or i have to take out the battry and leave it for 5-10mints then it loads fine.

thanks for replying i did went through that one as well it does flash every thing rightly but when i use the phone and talk it freezes and then i have to restart the phone, and when i restart the phone it stacks on tmobile add( stick together) and stays there until i remove the battery and waite for 10 mintes then i put the battery on and then it turns on normally and works for until freezes. and then i have to take out the battry and waite and put it back . sofar i did not undrestand why all these are happining

Get a sd-card. Format FAT32, download 2.10.0, extract. Copy ruu_sighned.nbh to root of ur sd-card, rename to leoimg.nbh , start in bootloader, reflash stock rom.

.. n these "exigent circumstances" that happen when a person tries 2 make their winDOZE phone alot better, is what stops me 4 using an awesome rom... y so difficult microsuck????

Ok im new to this and i put some custom roms on my hd2 but at one time i put the chucky rom then i replaced it for the elegancia rom, but every time i would power my phone down the chucky splash screen would come up first then after a bit the elegancia animation would start and the phone would boot up and work good.. i read on here that task 29 would get rid of any left over roms so i did the task 29 radio_2.08.50.05_task29 follow all the instructions but now my phone is stuck on the screen it just says chucky rom, im guessing that is the splash screen now but it wont take me into the boot loader, i have removed the batt and pressed the vol key down for about 10 mins and nothing, i have pressed the reset button on the back of the phone as well and press the vol down key still nothing ... phone boots up as soon as i put the batt in it .... please if anyone can help that would be great .. i have

[Q] newer android builds never work

hey i cannot run any android build on my hd2 all what it does is showes a black screen with green htc logo and never boots up altough i have waited for 1 hr no respond but all of the old builds work
any one down with solution and my phone (WM) is also up-to-date have latest radio and stuff

Good morning.
im a newbie at updating the HTC HD 2 Leo i have for T-Mobile (which is probably WHY i shouldnt have messed with it in the 1st place...).
i tried downloading the android gingerbread rom onto my phone last night and while downloading the software their was a partition error and my phone was stuck afterwards rebooting on the failed software dowload (would get stuck on a black screen only showing the HTC letters in green.)
i FURTHER screwed it up by trying to put it in bootloader mode and trying to install the Original software i found which i downloaded off a website for the factory version of my HTC HD 2 Leo.
NOW it only shows a black screen.. the computer cant sync my phone, the battery light is not showing and no signs of life...it wont even let me go into bootboader mode...all it says when i plug it in to my USB port on the computer is under hardware found " Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM"...
someone PLEASE help this lost noob... much appreciated

wow! erm.... have you tried a hard reset? recovery software might still be on there, with any hope.....

i tried , but the hd2 doesnt show ANYTHING on the screen, i tried holding both buttons and pushing the power on button but the factory screen wont pop up because the screen stays permenantly black

Sounds as though you flashed a T-MObile USA with a ROM with a .51 RADIO; if that is the case then the phone is bricked.
You could always telephone HTC and say you charged your phone overnight and it didn't respond the next day - with no mention of flashing the phone.
As you have found out flashing before reading can be fatal (for the phone) and expensive. I have flashed quite a few HTC WinMo phones, but for every different phone I read then reread the instructions.

Hey guys my hd2 works well at least 4 weeks now.
untill 3 days.. i was on holiday when my hd2 (with an sd rom version of android --> a nexus one build) freezed and now it shows only white and black stripes untill i turn it on -.-
i tried to install a stock rom ... install madglr or even task 29, but i always get an error (the image file is corrupt etc.)
can someone help me?
(sry for my bad english / it isn't my favourite subject )

I don't understand... You have SD Android and your screen displays black and white stripes when in both Android and Windows Mobile or only on Android?

Its bit confusing..
i had win mobile on my hd2 but i installed madglr in order to start the sd version of android automatically so i didn't start win mobile ...
now nothing starts -.- i start my mobile phone and from first boot it shows black and white stripes :s
what i didn't understand before that i couldn't start win mobile after installing madglr but this wasn't so important because i often use android

Unrelated, but a bit of advice for the future is to read things such as this very thoroughly before doing anything. I understand that stuff like 'terms and conditions' don't really need to be read, but you can potentially ruin an expensive piece of technology here!
Also, can you get into the bootloader (press and hold volume down+power button when booting up)?

Are you trying to go back to win6.5 or android??

Doens't matter however my hd2 shows a welcome to a os an i can write sms and listen to my music
