I guess I'm a bit less accurate on this phone.

Does the 2.3.4 camera produce better photos? [post your photos!]

That was one of the featues, that the camera was supposed to be better.
Is this true? Can some people on 2.3.4 post some photos?
My wife thinks the photos are better.

I hope it is. My sis's Inspire, even though it has an 8 mp, still far out-performs my Atrix, above what just three more mp's should get. Even my Torch took better pictures. But, hey, I got a dual core. I can deal with it.
It better!

For those saying its better, can you post some photos taken on 2.3.4??
How much better?
Not sure if the quality is better but the camcorder and camera has an on screen zoom button that works really well.

In 2.2.2 you can zoom with volume buttons, so that isn't anything new. What I noticed in 2.3.4 is that you can move the focus box...so you basically get manual focus!
Looking at pictures is subjective. We need real data to show that pictures are better, if in fact they are. Everyone naturally just expects them to be better cos' they went to 2.3.4 (asian beta), so natural tendency is to "believe" they are better just because.

I've taken many photos with my atrix, and other phones and cameras and I'll be able to tell if colours look any better, as would other people.
The best thing owuld be taking a photo of an object on 2.2 and then on 2.3 and posting both, but I would still like to see the photos from 2.3

Exactly.............you need identical comparisons with both firmwares. That means exact same camera position, lighting, subject, etc. Taking many photos really doesn't mean ****, as does what we perceive as a better or worse photo. I would trust a professional photographers eyes with this, but the rest of us just look for what "we" perceive ourselves to "look" better.

Not really if you are looking for accurate reproduction of colours, etc.
Why would we have any posts about cameras being better otherwise? You either want a camera which takes pictures which are accurate, or you don't need to post that your phone takes crap pictures, cos' nobody gives a crap then.

When two phones are compared and the camera is compared - they take photos of the same thing. By us looking at the comparisons we generally make our own decision about which colours we think look better.
Why are any photos posted in single phone reviews? Yes they comment on colour reproduction and such but ultimately its so people can see how the photos look; not to compare it with a DSLR. I want to see how the photos look.
Apparently the benchmark scores are low but I see most people that are replying with the 2.3.4 just installed say the phone feels faster either way.
Anyways, what point are you trying to make? I want to see photos posted with 2.3.4. There are many topics for other phones where people post photos from their phone, so whats the big deal if I want to see photos from 2.3.4 since its SUPPOSED to be better now?
If somone takes a photo of a red ball at noon in their house with a 100 watt light bult on the ceiling as their only source of light, I think we will be able to tell if the photos look bad or not.
Point is that its not hard to look at a photo and tell if it doesnt look good. Please just leave this thread alone if you're not going to contribute and you're going to just be negative about it.
So far two people have said its better, now I give more of a crap about seeing some photos because of those replies.

My point is that people jump on this "what is better/worse" bandwagon on a beta build which isn't even for the US, (where almost everyone is who is flashing the HTKW 2.3.4), and try to compare before and after.
Everyone expects it to be better, and so you all perceive everything you see as better. If you want to compare, stop saying "pictures look better now" and post real comparisons.
Yeah, sure, I can take 2 pictures with the same phone, (and a 100 watt bulb and red ball), one in the morning, one at night, and with different firmwares. Because the one at night looks better with the newer firmware, does that mean the phone is taking better pictures? No, it doesn't!
I am not being negative, and no I won't leave a thread where what I consider my valuable contribution is asking for proof of pictures being better. I simply want more than people saying pictures "look" better.
If you can't provide some form of proof, and can't/don't want to argue why real comparisons are required, then why don't you leave this thread, as it seems your contribution is nothing more than a 100 watt lightbulb and red ball!

I am also asking for proof, I'm asking for PHOTOS. (see title of topic)
If the Photo looks better, what does it mean? Photos are now worse?...
"Everyone expects it to be better, and so you all perceive everything you see as better"
Thats kind of an ignorant thing to say... maybe it IS better. Are you using it?
Come on man, be realistic, you havent made any contribution. Honestly.
Caelan, come on now.. me asking for pictures is me ASKING for proof, so why are you asking ME to provide proof?...
Why are you saying I am contribution a red ball and such? ... I am ASKING FOR PHOTOS in this thread, I am not really contributing anything untill people actually post photos - then I am contributing a source of photos for other people that want to view them.
Please stop this
why dont we have people take a picture of something then post it (on froyo) then take the same picture (on gb). good plan? xD isnt that the point of this thread? im too lazy to go back to gb or i would, i took two random pictures and they turned out "okay" but that was with flash, flash seems to work alittle better as in it doesnt falsh at the wrong times now. i dont see why the quality would be any better since this is a beta not even for our phones. they also said there is a performance boost and other stuff but none of that is in this version, i cant even zoom in with the camera without getting fc. id hold on a bit before comparing.

Seems a bit risky. Wouldn't it shorten the lifespan of your device quite considerably?
Nice find BTW

Enough of the "droid hate" posts please

Seriously, enough is enough. We get it. Some of you don't like the phone. Perfectly understandable, the phone was overly hyped. This day and age it's pretty much impossible to make a phone that's going to absolutely blow everything out of the water. There are tons of room for improvement, but overall the phone is extremely well built and performs as promised.
Its 48 hours mixed usage. It is absolutely possible to get 48 hours, it just limits what you're going to do. So most of us are not going to get 48 hours. Comparing it to a rooted strip down phone is unfair. Take a 100% stock unmodified phone and run them side by side. If the results are the same and the phone is not living up to your expectations. Then take it back. There doesn't need to be a new thread every time someone is displeased.
For those of you that are super upset with the phone, my suggestion would be take it back. Stick with what you had. Wait for lollipop. Then come back and give it another shot . Or get something else.
I'm not saying you don't have the right to vent your disappointment. But there's already a thread for that, there doesn't need to be 20
Edit, I said 24 hours when I meant 48.. Corrected
The phone isn't the problem. The CARRIER is the problem. If VZW would simply leave these phones alone and concentrate on cutting internal costs and inefficiency instead of trying to make more money by forcing you to use all of their sub par apps and services, there'd be nothing but praise here. I like my turbo. I'd love it without Verizon's crappy reprogramming and bloatware.
Oh dude, how I dislike fanboys... Keep the ''hating'' topica ppl! By doing that we can ponder about the device downsides.
Seeing everyone's perspective is golden, I agree. But at the same time there's too many threads. He's just saying limit it to one area. I know that's hard to control on a forum but a good forum has moderators that will catch these constant duplicate threads and forward all of them to the oldest and most visited thread. Instead it appears XDA has minimal moderators and thus a huge amount of duplicate category threads. Its honestly fine it's just inconvenient and relatively annoying, but no ones fault.

I haven't used the turbo yet but I have a maxx and in a 12 hour shift at work I can finish with 85% battery or 20%. If you are on your phone for hours playing games or surfing your going to eat the battery. However the maxx is the only phone I have owned that I don't bring a charger to work there is no need. I am sure the turbo is the same and I am sure it will only get better with 5.0.

Agreed. I love this device. When we get root. Even better.
Exactly we got to stop the hate when no phone is perfect
I can't see it on the video, much less on my device.

My mini S6 review!

Hello!
Just wanted to make a quick mini review of my S6. Received it yesterday around 5:30 pm after waiting all day impatiently for UPS to show up haha . I chose the 32g white model, primarily cause I'm not a super heavy user so I don't need a ton of extra space, as well as it doesn't show fingerprints as much as the darker colors. Right now it's sitting in a white Spigen feather case. Here's pics (images taken with a Blackberry Z30 that I don't use anymore lol):
{

}
I'll just keep this review super simple and to the point:
Screen: Amoled has definitely come a long way. Beautiful screen, good color reproduction using the basic setting, good brightness levels. Overall, it rocks. :good:
Build: Feels nice in the hand. Coming from an Iphone 6, it definitely feels as premium. Beware the fingerprints though haha, you will get them all over!
Camera: Not even going to lie, I don't know a damn thing about photography so I'm not going to pretend that I do. It takes great photos, but then again I personally felt that the Iphone 6 camera was good for what little photography I do, so I'd say look at other reviews for more in depth info about that topic.
Quick sample photos. Everything set to auto. No changes made to the photos:
Fingerprint Scanner: Never used the one from the previous Samsung phones, but coming from the Iphone 6, it works just as well. Registered four different prints, and it hasn't messed up once. :good:
Software: I appreciate Samsung's toning down of Touchwiz. At this point, since I haven't been on Android for awhile, I'm still getting use to the UI overall. Definitely appreciate the ability to install themes.
Reception/Service: Don't see any issues here. Sounds good when on phone calls and the reception seems on par with what I was getting with my Iphone 6.
Some things I've found so far that I'm not a fan of: None of these have anything to do with the hardware of the phone really. These are just a few annoyances that I haven't been able to fix just yet.
I can't seem to find any settings to adjust the lights for the capacitive buttons. As such, it's really annoying to use at night since every time you touch the screen, they light up for a second and a half and then disappear again. If anyone knows how to adjust the time or completely turn them off, please let me know. The only setting I've found that disables the lights is power saving mode.
The second thing I don't like is that both the stock Samsung web browser, and Chrome, don't have settings for full screen mode. I don't like having the status bar sitting at the top all the time. Call my crazy, I'm afraid of screen burn in with Amoleds .
At any given time, a high amount of RAM is always in use, and I honestly haven't installed many apps. I just checked right now, and my phone sitting idle is at 77% of RAM in use. I have 1 push gmail, and that's about it. No apps are running. I don't use any social media at all, and all of the bloat of the phone is disabled.
When I open the stock battery app, I cannot find 'screen' listed under the usage tab. As such, I don't know how I can test what my SOT will be on charges. (I know SOT is subjective and can vary greatly depending on use, but it'd still be helpful to have it listed regardless.
Don't really know what else to say at this point. If anyone has any questions or anything, let me know. Overall, I'm definitely enjoying the phone, and I'm super glad to be back on Android. :good:
Cheers,
-Matt
Thanks for sharing!
One point about the ram usage: don't bother looking at it. On almost every android phone you will have high consumption, regardless if the phone has 1/2/3/99 gigs of ram. Simply the more ram you have, the more applications will remain open. The fact that you consumption is around 77% means absolutely nothing - just enjoy your phone

No prob! Honestly, it's hard to tell. In my honest opinion, the S6 and the Iphone 6 are both great devices in different ways. It really just depends on what you're looking for in a phone. Personally, I wanted to get back to the customization side, so the switch was an easy choice. :good:

And why would you say that? The burn-in problem of the AMOLED displays is still very, very likely to occur. I've seen massive burn-ins on the Note 4, which has basically the same display as the S6.

Now with Lollipop the status bar isn't such a big problem, because it constantly changes colors. In kitkat and with older versions it was a problem, as it was constantly black (or color close to black).
But I'd suggest rooting, xposed and force immersive mode.

I had all 4 notes never had any problem with burnin. I'm not quite sure I had it with my s2 it was ages ago lol
I have one favor to ask though
Can you please install all the apps you use (and possibly some that you won't use, but just for the sake of testing), take a few hundred pictures and tell us if the phone feels as snappy as it did at the beginning?
When I played with the phone in a store I thought this was the fastest Android phone ever produced (without exaggerating even a tiny bit), but since it Samsung we are talking about, I have fears that after having all your stuff on the phone, the device's performance will suffer greatly.
@avenging - the fact that it didn't happen to you (which is great) doesn't mean that the technology doesn't suffer the issue. I have personally seen at least 3 units of the Note 4 with burn ins. Just go to your local electronics shop and check the Note 4. I can almost guarantee that it will have some degree of burn-ins.

And when you look into that, make sure you note your remaining space leftover.
It's fairly well-known that devices grow more sluggish as their storage fills up, so with the 32GB unit you'd have the easiest time seeing at approximately what % of space is remaining when the "threshold" is crossed and the device slows down a bit.
Frankly, it should be pretty hard to get the device to exhibit this behavior due to the UFS 2.0 within the device, but it probably does still happen to some extent.
This is actually relatively important to know because people sometimes exclude the necessity of having "empty" space for a device to perform at its best, and they often end up making a purchase decision without factoring that into their decision and regretting it down the road.
So on that note, the sake of Galaxy S6 science depends on you!
Let us know how that battery life is! That's the only thing I am worried about with this phone.

Burn In on Note 4? I had one since day it was launched, have no idea what your talking about. I sold it a week ago and am using iphone 6 right now until s6 Comes. I notice a lot of differences in note and iphone. Iphone is so slow for me. Can't wait to get s6.

:good:
Cheers,
-Matt

I can't help but notice how many reasons you mentioned that make me believe you really don't need a smartphone at all.

Eh you're probably right lol. I use to do a lot more with my phones (I rooted and did roms and such on my DNA, Droid M, and Galaxy S2), but just seems like lately I'm just addicted to getting new gadgets haha. Don't get me wrong, I still take photos, watch youtube videos, check my email and browse the web when I'm out and about, just not in the same capacity as almost everyone on XDA I would surmise. Was heavily into the whole social media thing too, but I just got burnt out feeling like I had to check a bunch of apps every 10 mins to keep up to date with what everyone I know is doing.

How would you improve the S6?

I am really like this phone, but coming from an HTC One m8 the battery life is terrible, like I went back to the m7.
I would like to see this exact same phone with something closer to a 3000mAh battery with a ~5.5 inch screen and dual front speakers.
That would have made the decision for me a lot easier between the s6 and m9. The camera is what cinched it for me.
What do you guys think?

The only hardware change I would want is a 3000mAh battery. I really like having the capacitive and home button on the front so putting two speakers on the front would make the bezel too thick. On the software side it would be nice to not have so much bloat from Samsung or an easy way to remove them permanently.
The S6 is one hell of a phone. My personal preferences are:
- On-screen button to replace the physical one
- Front-facing speakers and a better amplifier (although the current one is very good)
- Better quality charging port and jack
- GPE!
Just add a couple mm to the battery/phone - battery life is far worse than expected so far
I would describe the battery as more disappointing than bad. There's this understandable expectation that the newest generation of things will improve on things over the previous, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. To be fair, I remember similar discussions around the initial launch of the M8 and how its battery performance was questionable, so perhaps we'll see improvements over time here?
As far what I would do to improve the phone, there really isn't much. The only part of TouchWiz that feels intrusive is their modification to the notification panel, so I would start there. I really don't need or want the shortcuts it offers and have always wondered why Samsung won't allow me the ability to hide them. I would have also done a better job at the "rounding" of the device. The edges feel sharper and more obvious than on the iPhone 6 and to me, it feels like a distraction from the otherwise great design. That's hair-splitting for sure, but its enough that it still comes across as a lesser build in my opinion.
-another speaker at the top would have been welcome next to IR blaster.
-that new high speed reversible usb port.
-water resistant (why not, with sealed back?) Like S5.
-add back a millimeter and increase battery to 3100.
-bezels and/or back should be like solar panels for charging (like the old Texas instruments calculators) but disguised of course. Slow but a little charge just sitting on desk or table, under natural, or lamp light.
-if not the above solar charging, then how about kinetic charging. I mean 10k steps should get you something back right.
-OPTION TO UNINSTALL bloat if they don't want us to root.
Ya these will be in the S9!

It's been said many times already but needs to be said again: Uninstalling the apps you don't want to use won't gain back any usable storage space because they reside in the system partition which the user can't access.
*Metal back
*3000mah battery
*micro sd slot
*caller notification readout (as on GS5 & Note 4) under language and input settings.

That is a fact, but terrible reasoning. Nothing against you. No point in debating it.

The metal back would effect wireless charging. And I love me some wireless charging.
The read out option might be in accessibility. Not sure
Larger battery.
Un-crackable glass.

Scrap the metal back then lol.
I didn't check accessibility, just thought it would be in language and input.
I also notice theres no option for increased touch sensitivity (Glove mode) like on the S4-Note 4
I read everywhere about the poor batterylife, but so far mine has treated me very well. It feels about the same as my OnePlus One. I can easily make it through the day.
I'm not a hardcore user any way you slice it though, a lot of Whatsapp, some pictures, some Youtube, quite a lot of browsing. That's about it, but still I'm not dissapointed.
What I did when I got it was install the latest update, then do a factory reset. Maybe that helped?
My biggest issue is the poor reception. I live in the middle of Amsterdam, with every phone before this one I would get full 4G everywhere, but with the S6 I get only the far left milimeter of the signalbar filled. Often even less.
So far it doesn't seem to influence speed much, but I'm a little anxious what happens when I go out of the city or even into my parking garage.

You should check what the signal strength is in dB. You can find it in Phone Status and it is a more accurate measure than the signal strength indicator.
Thanks. I'm now in the office in Amsterdam. Sitting next to a big window on the 5th floor and it's far from densily built here. My reception is -113 dBm. Seems pretty poor to me. I'll check what I have when I get home.
Been checking for a couple of days and it's always -113. Wherever I am, it never changes. Don't really know what to think of it.

I actually noticed the same thing and posted about it in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/lte-signal-indicator-issues-t3083001
Would appreciate it if you could add your experience as well. Was beginning to think I was the only one. To get an *accurate* reading of your dBm, go into your phone dialer and hit *#0011# and look for RSRP. That should be the correct dBm strength.

Done! Thanks for opening the topic. I also thought I was the only one. Glad you're seeing the same behaviour
- Waterproofing/dustproofing, IP67/68
- Dual front-facing speakers
- 4000mAh battery (using SolidEnergy tech)
- Biometric display (fingerprint sensor under screen, on-screen buttons)
- USB Type-C connector
i would've come up with similar force touch tech (like what Apple used in their new laptop) for the home button, making it no longer a physical button and putting it under the glass.
