ICS hits the IL (finally!!) - Acer Iconia A500

the ics update arrived also to israel this and im now downloadding it
when the installaition complete you will get more details about him
update
i installed the ics and it works great!!! everything work faster and smoother without the wifi looping or whatever you call it
the only thing that i aint love is the way to change language at the default keyboard

Com_Gen2 update is here, installing now on my tablet, U.S.

I too have a gen 2 device. Ics was pushed ota to me around 0230 eastern time. I'm in Kentucky, USA.

Okay some bad news, its boot looping after update, i think it has something to do with WIFI. Ive put it on airplane mode and it seems to have stopped. idk what ACER did but they killed wifi which = paper weight tablet...

I have the same problem. I was on 3.2.1 GEN2 and after reboot wifi doesnt connect and when i try to it keeps rebooting

Droidsheep

I downloaded this app this morning, but after some testing I can't seem to capture anything. Not sure if it's the device or ROM (MIUI) . Can someone out there on MIUI test this as well and provide me some feedback?
I got it to work a couple times but it seems to be touchy. A coworker and I devised a plan to use it on another coworker while sitting right next to her muuhahahahaha!
Oops my bad, i'm on stock GB, no ROMs.

Hmmm... still, must be the device. I actually got it to work somewhat today, but it's kinda touch and go. I emailed the dev... hopefully I get a response.
As a sidenote, faceniff seems to work better, but sometimes I have issues trying to view sessions. Just can't win....
How ironic there is an update for Droidsheep and its supposed to fix this problem.

Does not work on SE Xperia X10 Mini Ultra with Android 2.3.5. No traffic/headers are visible. I tried on both open and WEP protected WLAN without success.
Anyone have any suggestions?
DroidSheep Works on Android 2.3.4 Galaxy S
I have tested it on Galaxy S 2.3.4 and it worked fine.
Droidsheep is removed from the andriod market now according to a tweet at @DroidSheep.
Although it is still possible to use by downloading it directly from the website and install it.
Just make sure you have installed required dependencies e.g arpspoof, licpcap, droidsheep and Root Privileges on android phone.
I wrote one Howto, but due to insufficient privileges i can't post URL. try search on google How to install DroidSheep
Ive tested it on MIUI and Stock. works fine but the Network slows down extremely!
It's scary how simple this app works!
Will droidsheep mess up the modem?
becuz i have played around with wifikill, droidsheep and faceniff today.
then a few hours later, my modem stopped working.
could any of the 3 apps be the cause? or my modem just got fried? lol
thanks!
i'm on galnetmiui and its working just fine...i went to mall and the list of facebook account just filling up...lol i'm bad
but my favorite is the wifikill i went to shopping mall and killthe wifi of all the apple devices..

Is this a rhetorical question. I don't mean to troll to hard here but, really you could have just searched for it before asking where to find it. Now the world knows just how much of a noob you are.
Yep he did ask. 30 seconds ago I downloaded WiFiFill-1.7.apk without even a blink on my computer. The post is almost at the top of Apps, 2nd or 3rd page.

I just got a notification that 4.0.2.A.0.42 is available?

Is this Ice Cream Sandwich? Already?? And will updating remove PSXperia?
Cheers!

No, this is 2.3.4. This will break PSXperia
I got it too,
It says I can only use PC Companion to update, how can I get it to do OTA update?
Also got this, and despite the description saying I can get it OTA or using PC Companion, directly below it says "You can only use a computer to update your phone."
Using PC Companion will make me lose root, won't it?
Ya it will, but maybe, just maybe, this root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859 will work?

I have this notification, but I'm already on this version. Why is it telling me to update to the version I'm already on and how can I remove it.
Not a problem, root is still applicable on this version of Android... What I'm curious about is why it wasn't available as an OTA update, and only made as an update through a PC. Anyone know why?

I updated my Play last night in the pub, OTA. Vodafone UK.
One minor addition, which for a lot of people is a major addition, is the new option for turning the display Automatic Brightness on and off.. about time! I was quite surprised how bright the screen can actually go.
I'd like to see the Brightness Level app from Curvefish I have on my home screen updated to include the switch. I read Kindle books in the dark before I go to sleep and the 0 level is way too bright until you turn Automatic Brightness back on. I'll probably contact the dev.

Potential problem with ICS

As I'm reading through the forum I saw someone ask, if we would be able to use the A500 as a phone with the upgrade to ICS. That made me think to whene I first got this tablet and it was consistently checking for cell signal and killing the battery at the same time. I hope ACER doesn't forget to remove them files.

You can probably just remove it and see what happens.
Seriously tho, just because it's named phone.apk, doesn't mean it's the same as in a mobile device.

No. The 500 and 501 do not contain a "true" radio like a mobile. True, the 501 uses a neutered version due to internal 3g data, but that's all. Unfortunately they both are almost identical in hardware, albeit a working sim slot.
It was called "cell standby", and the issue was fixed some time ago by adding the line ro.carrier=wifi-only (or similar) to the build.prop file. This informs the OS that it's not an a501 with internal 3g. Sometimes, the rom was installed on a 500 with a "#" in front of that line signifying an a501, resulting in looking for a signal.
In laymans terms.

I don't want them to remove it for my a501 Please, please... keep it.
But seriously, with the ICS ports, things look different. Will probably have to wait for the official a501 ports and roms, to see the differences. Right now, the ports are only for the 500.

Operative words being "when I got this tab".
It's been so long since I've seen "cell standby", that I've forgotten which update fixed it.
Point being, if it's fixed now, what makes you think Acer will go in reverse when they finally release ICS (God only knows when) for our tabs?!?

So true. The Motorola Droid X was severely broken by updating to Gingerbread so there's no guarantee ICS will be a good thing for any tablet. We'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah, checking for updates list it, but no idea what it is. The update is 24.8mb, so it's not like 5.1.1.

I had the hotspot icon on the original LP update, but it only showed after you first activate your Mobile Hotspot with the provider (VZ for me)

I'm downloading it now to verify, but that file was uploaded 2 days ago. Didn't the update just start rolling out today?

In the upgrade.xml, there's a line that says "quark_verizon-user 5.1.1 LCF23.80 80 release-keys." That extra .1 is not a typo. Where did this file come from?

Fingerprint sensor stops working randomly

So this just started happening very recently. It won't recognize that I'm touching the fingerprint scanner if my phone's screen has been off for X amount of time. No vibration, nothing to indicate that it realizes I'm touching it. Even when I turn on the screen to look at the lockscreen, it still won't detect my finger. After I unlock using my pattern, then lock again, it'll detect my finger when trying to unlock again. But if I let it sit for a bit with the screen off, it'll stop working again - almost as if it forgets to keep the fingerprint sensor on when it enters doze mode.
I thought it might be an issue with MHC19I, but I've had that update for almost a week now, and I hadn't seen this issue happen until today. And I don't see anyone else complaining about it recently.
It could also be due to a recent app upgrade, maybe? The list of apps that upgraded before I first noticed this issue are:
Chrome Beta, letgo, Robinhood (uses fingerprint sensor), TurboTax
Has anyone else experienced this? Any idea on how to troubleshoot this? The Google rep wanted me to boot into safe mode, but I'm hesitant to do that due to this bug - it's happened to me before on this phone - or to do a factory reset, which is ridiculous.
I am experiencing the same thing. Exactly. On march build
Same thing here. Started yesterday as well. I also had Robinhood update yesterday. In looking at the app reviews, it is breaking the nexus imprint for the 6P & 5X. Just deleted the app and rebooted the phone. Will update if this fixes it.
Misery loves company, I guess. Glad I'm not alone. I disabled all my xposed modules and the issue still persists. Maybe it's due to a recent update for an app.
Do either of you guys have any of these apps installed? Let's see if we can narrow it down.
Edit: Yeah, it's probably Robinhood.
Deleting the Robinhood app and rebooting seems to have fixed my issues!!

Add me to the list. Just removed robinhood (before finding this thread) and haven't had the problem since. Thanks OP for the perfect description of said problem, as those were my exact symptoms as well. Problem started on the evening of the 17th... been pulling my hair out ever since. Even reinstalled the latest factory images (without wiping). I was so worried it was a hardware issue... glad it's not!
Hi All,
I'm an Android developer for Robinhood. Very sorry for the issue! We'd noticed it ourselves, but it took a while for us to realize that our own app was the cause. We have a fix ready to go out to the beta users on Monday. If you guys are interested in joining the beta, you can do so here: play.google.com/apps/testing/com.robinhood.android
Again very sorry for the trouble!

Hi there. Thanks for your reply. I don't use the beta version and I'm not interested in doing so for an app that handles my money. Please push the update to the stable build ASAP.
