Atrix vs. Atrix 4G Comparison Video - Atrix 4G General

As promised, I said I would make a video about these two devices on a couple of threads recently... so here it is.
http://youtu.be/q5sCvPQYFdE
If there's anything I've missed and you want to know, post it on here and I'll make another video featuring those differences too!

Two differences in hardware for example:
Atrix supports more 3G frequencies (i.e 900mhz, which the Atrix 4G does not)
If you wish to flash alternate roms you need a ram fix.
Atrix 4G radios aren't fully compatable with the Atrix and visa versa (3G signal level reported incorrectly)
Sigh. So no they are not, hence the reason behind the video.
I've looked at some of your recent posts, you are clearly spamming so please unless you have some constructive feedback then please do not post again.

Interesting video. Hadn't really thought about it too much before

The TTY modes in the US are to support people who are hard of hearing. Not sure exactly how it works, but I believe it routes all calls through a center that does text->speach conversion.

I like that new battery cover on your European ATRIX.. Seems like they ditched the MOTOBLUR branding on it.
Anyone knows where I can buy it?

EBay or Amazon. Should find tons. Singapore FTW

I have the US model, and that carbon fibre effect just rubs away and looks dire. Might see if I can track down the rubber version!

Only diference is that we have 3G instead of 4G, same hardware and funtions... maybe some FW got lock some features but is phone´s company foul (AT&T, Bell, etc)

Did you watch the video?
The phone isn't true 4G, its just a US term for HSPA+. We have HSPA+ here in the UK, but we don't call it 4G. One company tried that and got slapped down big time for it.
As regards the rubber backing, I was very surprised to find that when I got the phone! I know they 3 colours of "rugged" battery doors but didn't realise it was a standard part nowadays! Its very nice, but I have my Incipio feather covering it that I brought for 99c from Radio shack while visiting america!

The 4G and Atrix have the same 14.4 Mbit radio chip. AT&T 4G is indeed the rest of the planet's 3G.
All the differences are firmware (software) based, if you look at the specs for the Qualcomm mdm6200 chip you'll see it can handle all the frequencies, moto is just pandering to carriers with crippled radios.
Look at table 1-2 we are interested in the umts bands, now read the NOTE under the table. Bastards!

I don't have any way to show you guys how to know that difference by hardware, but you can test it by yourself using clemsyn kernel 1.5 ELITE, Elite means only if your Atrix has an Elite Tegra that can support the kernel, if your phone does not boot or freezes then your Atrix has not an Elite Tegra.
That's the only way right now that I can find out how to know if it is Elite or not.

The so called "elite" tegra are just chips that can handle overclocking better.
From a technical standpoint, they are the SAME as the rest of the "non-elite" tegras.

If it was firmware I'd have UMTS on 900mhz running on the ATT Atrix by now, its not. Flashing EU radios do not unlock it. They are the same radio yes, but there is clearly two variants of it, one with UMTS 900mhz enabled, one without for AT&T.

I don;t think the G2 will be the replacement of my N1. According to all the articles that I've read, they say it will be a 800MHz (only speculations at this time) processor and not a +1GHz. If this is true, then I'll wait for the N2.

This phone will not have anything past 1ghz snapdragons we all know as of right now. The new line isn't coming until the end of the year.
I think I might give up my nexi, I've been dying for a keyboard phone comparable to the nexus one. This may be it.
Not me. I rooted mine when the 1-click root app came out and it gave me more reasons to keep mine. I love it even more! I can't believe i thought of replacing it.

This is one of those cases where MHz won't matter one bit. The chip has a whole bunch of new features not found on the N1, including many hardware multimedia accelerators. Plus, you really won't notice much of a different with just a 200MHz drop.
With a faster radio, more memory and better hardware acceleration, the CPU speed becomes less important.
I'll upgrade if it offers speedy HD video, HDMI out and more memory as those are the things I'm missing on my N1.
The phone will have the scorpion chip set which equivalent too the snapdragon, but with a better cpu and wvga screen

It's going to be hard for me to give my Nexus up as well. I'm still trying to weigh my options on whether I should just go ahead and get the G2 or keep my N1. If the screen size is not 4.3" I will be keeping my Nexus until a 4.3" T-Mobile Android deice come out.

I'm still waiting for a 1.3-1.5 GHz phone before replacing my Nexus.
Honestly, im waitng for the next Dev phone, personally the mod community on the Nexus One is far superior to anything it could be on any other phone. So i'll wait, im not a slide out keyboard guy anyway. Google tends to release a new "dev" phone for each major release:
G1 - 1.0 &1.5
MT3G - 1.6 (i think)
Droid -2.0
Nexus One -2.1 & 2.2

Sprints been at a true crossroad the last couple months on commuting to a 4G technology Wimax or LTE.
99.9 % chance it will be LTE by the looks thus chip plays a big factor.
I don't think there is a dual chip available yet that can play both so it will be interesting.

From what I understand a switch from WiMax to LTE is just a firmware update, so my guess is the chip included would just require an update and there you go, WiMax to LTE on your phone now.

True firmware can be done on tower but not on current wimax chips so they would have to use muti capable.

A 3D phone? Meh. And by the time this "nexus s 4g" will be released it will be a 6 month old android phone with a single core processor and no expandable storage. Give me a break.

From what I understand on the subject, the WiMax chips in our phones aren't and can never be compatible with LTE. The infrastructure (network, towers) is compatible with a radio or controller swap but the WiMax chips in the phones are not.
That being said, I would disagree and put it at a 99% probability that whatever they release will be WiMax. LTE would be a better option but I would be very surprised to see them moving to that now, maybe in a year or two.
I had a feeling they were going to have big news. Two things that drive me nuts about Sprints tendencies are their propensity to go with physical keyboards (Epic) and chrome rims around the phone which I think are very ugly (Touch Pro, EVO Shift). If they release a Nexus S, just the way it is but with the addition of 4G, that would be a very difficult device to turn down.

As i said in another thread,if all sprint did was just add 4G to the current nexus S,it will be a huuuuge flop.
If they don't bump the hardware specs i.e. a dual core proc,s'amoled plus,1080p video and true HDMI,this phone will be dead on arrival.

And you can count on a ton of bloat ware (easily fixed though). I'm sticking with my unlocked white euro sgs2... I LOVE the home button and a bumped processor isn't good enough for me to give it up... plus its cool to have the version others don't! ;-)

HSUPA speeds are likely crippled, too.
And yeah, the T-Mobile version will have the best theoretical download speeds, but the worst performance, especially graphics.
It'll also use its very own totally-unique-won't-work-with-anything else firmware...it's a one-off, almost an orphan, so don't expect much community support for it.
hehe, bought the UK version or "unlocked" like new for $450.... thanks foe the replies guys, BTW the CPU is 1.2 so it's the same speed, no speed bump..

"Samsung Now Says Galaxy S III Won’t Support DC-HSPA"

I couldn't find any other reference to this about turn by Samsung - apologies if it's been posted before.
Source: http://www.itproportal.com/2012/05/23/samsung-now-says-galaxy-s-iii-wont-support-dc-hspa/
My main reason for pre-ordering an SIII to replace my Note was the support for dual channel HSPA; I'm on O2 UK, and use my phone predominantly in central London, so the possibility of support for 42Mbps throughput is appealing - and I would never have agreed a 2 year contract without this 'future-proofing' feature.
I'm not sure whether the change of specification is due to marketing incompetence, production cost, quality control, firmware readiness or something more sinister, but none of these reflect well on Samsung. The fact that this has been quietly removed from the spec just a week before shipping is even worse.

i dont remember reading any spec sheet with dc hspa
DC-HSPA Claims 42 throughout? Or Mbps? A device is only as capable as it can be, or worse. If the hardware is unchanged from what you had signed up for and it is truly incapable of DualCell ... you'd more upset to have it "with" it.
Flip side, a. Device hardware is unchanged, just "support" is removed.... Do some pushups! Is time for a workaround!
Flip b. Hardware change, we're boned for neutrino speed and have to settle for light. ..
Edit: i love that article for one reason, the person that wrote it is not on xda.
Buy the phone, internationally if you have to (we had to do it too, for a lot ), modify it appropriately...
Are we not just talking about dc-? Isn't that rel7 tech? I'm currently trying t... Oh nvm ... That's a pipedream. But I've tripled my WiMAX (you don't want it) speeds using things like "tricking" my phone into thinking i was using cdma and this "LteforCDMAmode" that was in ril.dump but i can't seem to replicate it or find info on it...

To be honest i dont really care. The chances of the networks actually delivering anything like that much in real throughput is zero. They struggle to deliver even 1Mbps most of the time for more than a minute without the connection crapping out.

To be honest i dont really care. The chances of the networks actually delivering anything like that much in real throughput is zero. They struggle to deliver even 1Mbps most of the time for more than a minute without the connection crapping out.

Yep... I agree with this. It's all very well having the capability but o2's back end network is in no shape to deliver

i would suppose the 3.5G is a small step towards 4G really. And since 4G hasnt even begun in the UK, and it will take a while until you are in a position to use 4G in most areas of the country, then id say, we would have to get the next samsung phone in 2-3 years with it.
Besides, LTE tends to drain the batteries quite fast as well, and to me it would be more valuable in a tablet rather than a phone.
How much browsing can you do on a mobile(even 4.8inch screen) before you say: god i have a headache staring at this phone already!

Just got the tmobile version - can I help anyone?

I just got the tmobile version of this phone today through work to try out for a couple of months. If there is anything I can check out on it to get you guys more info let me know.
Pictures?make a video?

Benchmarks, battery life, and usability. My only question is how does the S4 perform vs Exynos in the GS3 and whether there is any improvement over battery life/usability w/ the chipset and extra ram. I would trade raw power for better battery and potentially better app performance.
Do you work for Tmobile or something? How is it that you got to test one out? And is this the U.S. version? I would be interested to know if the U.S. versions really do have 2gb of ram. And also if it also has the Wolfson audio DAC like the international version.

Benchmarks of all kinds.
Also, how much RAM is actually available after the Adreno takes up some of it's ram. Can you give a screenshot?
Amazing... can you run benchmarks... how fluid is it?

Sweeet, lucky! Questions:
- what color is yours?
- is the only T-Mob branding on the back cover?
- how's the battery?
- can you test out some graphic intense games, how do they run?
- does the pop-out video function run smoothly while multi-tasking?
- how many apps can you open up before things noticeably get laggy?
So excited for the US launch!
If the T-Mobile Galaxy S III is carrier unlocked can you test to see if this works with the other major GSM provider like AT&T for 3G/HSPA+?
Earlier it was reported that from the Engadget & The Verge that FCC report had the T-Mo version capable of running both T-Mobile and 1900 band of AT&T.
Thanks in advance!
Can you help me get one? lulz.
Do you have the firmware in TAR format?
I need it badly. I have the same unit as yours.
If you can even give me the stock kernel, it would help to start.
May be my problem is the kernel....
