Hey guys
I've been a gtab owner since January this yr, and I'm very pleased with it.
But now with the recent horde of tablets incoming I was wondering whether I should sell this now while I still can get a decent amount for it and buy either the tf pad 300 or the tab 2 - if its quad core.
Wat do u guys think?
Shall I keep my tab and wait for ics? Or sell now, and buy one of the new Samsung or Asus tablets.
Thanks
Adam
PS. This is just opinions, so no flaming please
I'm actually in the same boat, and I've decided to keep it. Unless you really want to play "demanding" games.
There's always going to be new better devices getting released, just something you have to accept.
I'll be keeping mine until the higher resolution tablets appear, especially the next Samsung one.
Then I'll pass this tablet to my girlfriend who doesn't care about such things.
Hmm yeh you've got a point. I wish Samsung would hurry up with the ics update. :L

I'm hoping for a google branded 10-incher with 3g, which would hopefully bring more timely os updates and no annoying vendor skinning. Failing that, I'm happy enough with my (pershoot cm9) 7500 to keep it a good while longer.
the galaxy tab 2 has the same specs as this. Samsung says the hardware is still good.

But, the Tab 2's might not be all there is. There's a bunch of rumors about "Espresso" 10.1" and 7" tablets that could potentially have quad-cores and HD displays becoming Samsung's iPad fighter/premium line. A tablet may be announced at the May 3 Galaxy event in London and that should provide some clarity.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Wake...spresso-7-tablets-to-launch-this-June_id29071
For those looking at tablets, here's something to think about. They may all look the same but they aren't designed and built the same way. I've been following the Prime and while Asus represents great value there's tons of compromise in the process. Like AzureWave (vs. Broadcom) radios with no 5Ghz support, HannSpree displays riddled with dead pixels and LCD bleed, and truly questionable build quality. Here's a tear down of the Prime. You get what you pay for.

To get the price down, it'll be interesting to see what types of compromises Samsung accepted with the Tab 2's.
The transformer pad 300 has been announced, £399 pounds from early may. That is tempting, quad core keyboard dock and ics for 399. :L

I'm in the same boat too. I think I'm gonna wait for the 1920x1080 (1080p) tablets to come out from Samsung, Sony, Asus, and Acer and then decide on one of those. I hope one of them will have double the ram at that resolution or at least 1.8 - 2.0 Ghz Tegra 3 processors to push that res. They'll need it.
I'm returning this tablet, I just bought it three days ago. The lag on it kills me I already dislike touchwiz. Returning tomorrow and ordering the Asus tf300t. Plus better for less $$.

Cheap: Nook Color, already has a big community, cm7, hc
Not so cheap: Galaxy Tab 10.1, cleanest looking HC tablet I've seen, and I've seen 'em all.
Posted by Mr. Z's Epic 4G.
transformer has bang for buck value however ive seen two at work haber to be returned due to non responsive screens.

Don't buy a Honeycomb tablet.
Wait for Ice Cream or later when the interesting hardware and software optimizations take hold with 10 "retina display" equivalents and quad core processors.
I was gonna buy once a quad core came out..but after seeing a gtab for 250$ new that has a tegra 2 cpu I couldn't resist...it has a port of cm7 and honeycomb. and stuff...they aren't perfect but they work for the most part. Its biggest weakness right now is lack of honeycomb tegra 2 drivers and its screen is not the best LCD tech used..otherwise its ok..

That's why I have no interest in a tegra 2 tablet. Complete and utter failure to play ALL high profile h.264 video in at least 720p, which is something my epic can do and the original ipad can do. Yes,, the original single core ipad..

I had a sylvania tablet for the the longest and manged to get Google Market and froyo on it (unless you had one, you know that was a GREAT feat!) and I was happy with it...unfortunately, circumstances forced me to sell it and when I did he had just gotten rid of his 7' Galaxy Tab, telling me that the simplest tilt would make it change orientation quickly. I was surprised that he chucked it for a sylvania. I plan on either getting a Color Nook next, or try to find a sale on an Acer a500.
Also:ironically, 3 weeks after I sold the Sylvania Tablet, the source code was finally released for it, which means development for it is soon to rise *sigh* real bad time, I guess...
We bought a bunch of sgtabs at work. Love mine from a practical standpoint, but the dev world is a bit behind. I don't think its lacking much, just a reliable cwm and then a complete set of stock files (modem, kernel, rom) and things will be moving. I expect the source will eventually come out. I hear that's what's lacking in the kernel dev dept. Personally I like samsung. When the 4g 10.1 is released I plan on getting that one. Despite the slow update releases, you have to admit, the galaxy s line rocks.

A new rumor claiming that the Nexus Prime will be re-named to Galaxy Nexus, have a bigger 4.65in curve display , 8.8mm thick with a more narrow release date at late October.
Looks like we wont have a transformer phone
Edit: http://www.slashgear.com/nexus-prime-chassis-specs-reported-support-page-up-at-samsung-08178114/
Another article with this one claiming a samsung support page will be live soon and the phone will have a full metal chassis.
I no longer believe rumors. We've heard that it's 4", 4.3", 4.5", and now 4.6". We also heard that it's a Verizon exclusive, then heard that all carriers will get it. Then we heard it's not called the Nexus Prime, but rather, the Droid Prime. Then we heard it's running 480x800 resolution (which means it's 480p and not 720p).
Sorry OP, I'm not ranting about you. I'm just ranting about the amount of people that create these rumors to keep the ignorant excited.
Honestly i agree, i dont fall for rumors, i wait until the official source confirms it before i get excited, but it is still news and i think it is worth posting :/
I thought prime was a stupid name. I mean this is stupid too. Coincidentally, I feel transformers are stupid also. Why can't it just be the Nexus 3 or keep the original NEXUS ONE name going and do NEXUS TWO. I consider the nexus s just an update. Like the iPhone 3gs to the 3g.

Thing here is though there are a variety of different phones. First it was 'Nexus Prime' which ruled all. Then, we learned that Verizon is getting the 'Droid Prime' but that IS NOT a Nexus phone. Sure, it might be similar, but that's not the same phone.
We know Google will release another Nexus phone, that's not the question. Do we know the exact specs of it yet, certainly not, but we seem to know more now than we did previously.
Maybe I'm just biased because I'm one of the few waiting for final details on the next Nexus phone, regardless of the name, before jumping on the SGS2 bandwagon.

Weren't we all under the assumption that the original nexus was going to come with a dual core and a larger screen with a higher resolution. Then we were all disappointed when it was a glorified lateral upgrade to a galaxy s series.
My hopes are that we don't just get a glorified galaxy s2.

You mean the Nexus S? Because if you're talking about the original Nexus, dual-core for phones weren't even considered! Umm, for the Nexus S, though, I don't think it was expected to get dual-core since dual-core was very new at the time (or didn't even exist. Can't remember when the Atrix came out). We weren't disappointed with the screen resolution; Samsung did a great job at bringing their Super Amodled display to the phone. The reason why we were disappointed with the Nexus S was because it only shot 480p video, no sd card, and some other minor stuff.
There are supposedly three model numbers for the next "nexus.":
The Droid Prime is an SCH-i515
The Rumoured Nexus replacement is a GT-I9250
The 515 is the Charge replacement.
Galaxy Prime or Galaxy Nexus might be a third phone all together.

Doubtful, but with a 4.6" (or whatever it's going to be) there isn't much need for a physical keyboard outside the personal preference to touch keys, not a screen.
I have a feeling phones with physical keyboards are going to be hard to come by in the future. There will be some, but the options will probably be quite limited.
phones with keyboards are coming out all the time. just not on sprint.
droid3 for instance on verizon has a 5 row qwerty. the screen looks like doodoo, but still, its something. sidekick 4g and mytouch 4g are relatively new on tmobile too. sprint just needs to request one from a manufacturer.
its not just bout liking physical keys, i dont want my keyboard taking up half of my screen. i want a real 4.5 inch screen. not half of that because of some ugly on screen keyboard.

This got me really interested. I never read anything about Samsung tabs (I use Asus Transformer) - I assume they have unlocked bootloaders, right? The 11.6 tablet with less border could be the size of current 10.1 tablets, with the S-Pen it would be sth I was waiting for.
yep, samsung bootloaders are always unlocked can't wait for the MWC. that s-pen would make it really sweet for university use.

That's something I don't like lol. Really like to control my devices by using my fingers and not going back to a pen again.
I would see there are some features or apps that would require a pen and have a use for it, but if it comes on the new Samsung Tab I know a 100% I am not gonna use it.
With using a pen I think we would go back in time with touchscreen devices?
But it's personal ofcourse, I have had the SGNote to play with for a few days and that pen sets me off hehe.
You don't have to use the pen. Also I think it's mostly for handwriting and drawing.

So should I wait or buy the 10.1 now?
The next Asus prime looks really nice. The Sammy as it is now is great but if you're going to pay what everyone else paid when it was brand new then I'd drop the cash on a newer product at that price. Unless you wait and get a Sammy when the price drops with the next gen release.
Thanks guys. I think I will wait for the next Galaxy Tab. The current Asus Transformer Prime is plagued by Wi-Fi issues, and I doubt the next Prime will have as good a screen as the next Galaxy Tab.

Thats the samsung galaxy tab 2, which has apparently the same specs as our galaxy tab 10.1 (if not lower). Wait for the galaxy note 10.1 for much higher specs, hi res screen etc
Hopefully this will make for an easy port to our device!
I really dont expect samsung to give our tabs ICS soon especially since this newer version has the similar hardware to the original tab 10.1.
I feel like samsung would not want to release ICS for our tabs so they can sell more of the newer version, but maybe I am just a pessimist.

I just dont understand why cant Samsung just update our tab 10.1 to ICS and then lower the price and sell it as low end model. Then release note 10.1 as a successor with higher specs.
99% of us are not going to upgrade to tab 2 anyways. So whats the incentive for releasing a new model with exactly same specs, but with ICS ?

Agree them front speakers look UGLY...
Somehow, in spite of having the same specs, it's gotten thicker (9.7mm vs 8.6mm) and heavier (588g vs. 565g). It also now supports Glonass for GPS and has a MicroSD slot. I wonder if the added bulk is due to moving to a cheaper to build design.
I'm sure all the lawsuits Samsung has been dealing with brought all this about... Also they have to support this tab for 18months per Google rules so we WILL see ICS

Looks like the s3 Mini will be just as powerful with 4 inch screen. This is the perfect screen size in my opinion. I read this on technobuffalo.com
You mean this?
Apple will sue over this phone as well, claiming blah, blah, blah.

They will sue for the use of the word "mini" to 'describe an existing technology in a smaller size than the original'
Apple secured a patent on the term since nobody else has done so
HAHA
Funny, wasn't the OG Epic's original name Victory?
I do believe this is an entry level phone Prolly out mid Sept.
That's really all I can say...I have said too much already

When will samsung learn that they are Killing the "galaxy" name with these ridiculous phones. They are waters down.
Galaxy mini, galaxy w, galaxy precedent etc. If it wasn't for marketing, you couldn't tell what the flagship device is. HTC got smart, samsung hasn't yet.
Still Cant wait for this phone... Just wish it was thinner. Bigger screens are not for everyone.
But the specs suck

Each different region gets specific models, while majority get the flagship models. In the states you can't come across a galaxy w, but over seas you can. The same goes for different galaxy phones.
Samsung is out for money, in my eyes with all these phones. The galaxy line is fine, maybe a few other phones(entry, mid an high end). Just not so many that people get confused on what the flagship device is.

They do offer loads of choices, not going to lie. Unless your a tech guy(me an xda users), you won't know which to get. I just wish they learn from htc, with their one series. The X being the best, S being a competitive mid to high range an the V being a nice entry level.
What I'm suggestion is, the S3 be like the the (one)X. Top of the line etc. Then have a second line for S an third for V.
You get what I mean?

I get that, but the galaxy name was bastardized more than a year ago tho.
They could do more to classify them though. I am with ya.
Their offerings structure in my opinion is strictly price bracket based. Someting in each range certain people can afford.
Of all things...very similar to shoes. I am cheap and it was a long time before I realized that $100 pair of aisics really are more comfortable and last longer than that $30pair. In either case though they were getting my money by offering something in every price point
Another issue is the pace at which technology is advancing. This doesnt apply here...but think ..yearly flagships...wow! Or the Galaxy note...the 2 may very likely release in only a few weeks, only 9 months after the original.

I was one that thought this screen was to big but you get use to it fast and now the note 2 seems tempting, the screen on this phone seem smaller to me now . Funny how i thought 4 inches was perfect, nope i wont go smaller than this screen 4.8 inches. my girlfriend even thought the screen was to big and now she already
wanna jump on the note 2. we both out grew this phone screen size.

I gave up trying to have the best phone. My main an only, is my sensation. When I can I might get the one x+ who knows.
Phones are coming out too fast now, it's impossible to keep up almost. Roughly every week 1-3 phones are announced(rumors, leaks etc)
Samsung just released the S3, now they are making different versions of it. Need I say more?
