http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/09/08/nexus-prime-rumored-to-have-massive-display-different-name/
A new rumor claiming that the Nexus Prime will be re-named to Galaxy Nexus, have a bigger 4.65in curve display , 8.8mm thick with a more narrow release date at late October.
Looks like we wont have a transformer phone
Edit: http://www.slashgear.com/nexus-prime-chassis-specs-reported-support-page-up-at-samsung-08178114/
Another article with this one claiming a samsung support page will be live soon and the phone will have a full metal chassis.
I no longer believe rumors. We've heard that it's 4", 4.3", 4.5", and now 4.6". We also heard that it's a Verizon exclusive, then heard that all carriers will get it. Then we heard it's not called the Nexus Prime, but rather, the Droid Prime. Then we heard it's running 480x800 resolution (which means it's 480p and not 720p).
Sorry OP, I'm not ranting about you. I'm just ranting about the amount of people that create these rumors to keep the ignorant excited.
Honestly i agree, i dont fall for rumors, i wait until the official source confirms it before i get excited, but it is still news and i think it is worth posting :/
I thought prime was a stupid name. I mean this is stupid too. Coincidentally, I feel transformers are stupid also. Why can't it just be the Nexus 3 or keep the original NEXUS ONE name going and do NEXUS TWO. I consider the nexus s just an update. Like the iPhone 3gs to the 3g.

I agree on all counts. I don't think I can pass on the Epic Touch to wait on something that MAY happen and that we don't have the exact specs on. I have read dual 1.5 core and dual 1.2 core, different size screens, Verizon exclusive, all carriers, etc as well.

Thing here is though there are a variety of different phones. First it was 'Nexus Prime' which ruled all. Then, we learned that Verizon is getting the 'Droid Prime' but that IS NOT a Nexus phone. Sure, it might be similar, but that's not the same phone.
We know Google will release another Nexus phone, that's not the question. Do we know the exact specs of it yet, certainly not, but we seem to know more now than we did previously.
Maybe I'm just biased because I'm one of the few waiting for final details on the next Nexus phone, regardless of the name, before jumping on the SGS2 bandwagon.

Weren't we all under the assumption that the original nexus was going to come with a dual core and a larger screen with a higher resolution. Then we were all disappointed when it was a glorified lateral upgrade to a galaxy s series.
My hopes are that we don't just get a glorified galaxy s2.

You mean the Nexus S? Because if you're talking about the original Nexus, dual-core for phones weren't even considered! Umm, for the Nexus S, though, I don't think it was expected to get dual-core since dual-core was very new at the time (or didn't even exist. Can't remember when the Atrix came out). We weren't disappointed with the screen resolution; Samsung did a great job at bringing their Super Amodled display to the phone. The reason why we were disappointed with the Nexus S was because it only shot 480p video, no sd card, and some other minor stuff.
There are supposedly three model numbers for the next "nexus.":
The Droid Prime is an SCH-i515
The Rumoured Nexus replacement is a GT-I9250
The 515 is the Charge replacement.
Galaxy Prime or Galaxy Nexus might be a third phone all together.

Doubtful, but with a 4.6" (or whatever it's going to be) there isn't much need for a physical keyboard outside the personal preference to touch keys, not a screen.
I have a feeling phones with physical keyboards are going to be hard to come by in the future. There will be some, but the options will probably be quite limited.
phones with keyboards are coming out all the time. just not on sprint.
droid3 for instance on verizon has a 5 row qwerty. the screen looks like doodoo, but still, its something. sidekick 4g and mytouch 4g are relatively new on tmobile too. sprint just needs to request one from a manufacturer.
its not just bout liking physical keys, i dont want my keyboard taking up half of my screen. i want a real 4.5 inch screen. not half of that because of some ugly on screen keyboard.

So maybe the Nexus S2 rumors are true.

But I guess the only thing keeping the from releasing another nexus would be Google. Unless Google felt the need to have a larger format dev phone like 4.3" screen, bring back HD video recording and possibly add a dual core processor.

I'm sorry, but anyone who buys a Samsung-supported phone at this point deserves what they will inevitably get.
The Behold II and Galaxy S fiascos should be ample warning: Samsung will NOT support the software on a phone it releases in the USA. The Vibrant 4G will release with Froyo, and will reach end-of-life with Froyo, except for custom ROMS.
Kill TouchWiz already!
Is it really Samsung, or is it Tmobile that delays the updates; or a combination of both?

I like the fact that the new Vibrant Plus has a 1650mAH battery and 4g
This is why you ALWAYS buy phones with the idea that it will be left for dead by the manufacturer as soon as you buy it (unless of course you have a Nexus )
Couldn't imagine how crappy old Vibrant owners who signed 2-year contracts must feel since most people imagine they will have their phone be relevant for at least a year but it's already a "dinosaur" in their eyes in a little less than 6 months

A year is a VERY long time in the smartphone ecosystem, unless you're in a closed system like the iPhone with only yourself to compete with.
I've resigned myself to a new phone every 6 months for as long as I feel compelled to have the "latest, greatest" device.
A lot of Vibrant owners pissed off because of this, but I'm not going to fault Samsung for releasing what's a pretty major upgrade (true HSPA+ and FFC) 6-10 months after the SGS line came out.
Adding SAMOLED Plus would have made it less upsetting to most, I suspect.
I won't give Sammy a pass on the lack of Froyo progress on US model Galaxy S phones, though. They obviously have it (i9000 does, as does this); but is it possible their carrier partners are the problem here?

Seriously?
C'mon, the Vibrant is still "relevant" and anything but a "dinosaur". It's still got one of the best screen technologies out there, a damn good GPU and CPU, 16gb internal and external sd cards, supports 7.2Mbs. Most non-XDA-member types will still love that phone for quite some time to come.
My point in all of this was Samsung denied that they were making a nexus 2 phone up until two weeks before release and dropped that they are making the nexus s; very clever.
Just like there were early rumors of vibrant plus and those were dismissed then at the end of CES it is announced.
So there have been rumors of a nexus s2 and I guess those have been dismissed as well unless they are are going to drop 2 weeks before google's release of "ice cream" a nexus s "plus". Speculative, I know but it fits the MO of Samsung and Google - short ly (apx 6mos.) after the mytouch was made into a dev phone the nexus one was announced with android 2.2. Maybe with the rapid rise of dual core phones and larger screens; google and samsung will want a dev phone this summer that will provide these options (dual core and larger screen) for devs to design HQ games and apps on. Because lets face it Apple iOS is one up on android because the quality games and that is it. Sony is releasing this year a PSP android gaming phone so I can only imagine google wanting their dev phones to start computing in that area as well.
G1 dev phone released Dec 2008
Mytouch "magic" ion dev released phone Aug 2009
(6 months span)
Nexus One dev phone released Jan 2010
Nexus S dev phone released Dec 2010
( ~ 6 months span)
Nexus S "plus" maybe in June/July 2011? marketing wise would take some steam out of apple's typical iphone release date.
Can't deny that there is some indicators of a possible marketing pattern.

Costco pulling the Motorola Atrix for 'new handset coming soon'?
By Phil Nickinson 21 Jul 2011 8:24 pm
Now this is a wee bit interesting. We've gotten word that the Motorola Atrix 4G soon will be off Costco's shelves as some sort of "inventory pullback," and that "a new handset (is) coming soon." And that "coming soon" date appears to be as early as Sunday, July 24. What might that new handset be? An Atrix inventory replenishment? Some sort of tweaked Atrix? Something completely different? News at 11.
http://www.androidcentral.com/costc...entral+(Android+Central)&utm_content=FaceBook
That's interesting. Maybe it's an Atrix with AT&T's LTE. If it's a different phone, it could be the Defy+ thats rumored to be on AT&T.

Atrix Discontinued
I just took my Fiance to go pick up a new phone since her contract just expired, and we were planning on getting her a Motorola Atrix 4G (like mine), but as soon as we got there, the people informed us Moto/ATT are recalling/pulling the Atrix because it didn't do as well as they originally planned. The replacement for them was a Samsung Inspire 4G (which is actually a nice looking phone and runs pretty smoothly).
Depending IF Motorola holds up to their words with the bootloader unlocking this year, I may be moving away from Motorola after this phone. It's a shame because I like their hardware/look a lot.
Just thought I'd share that with you all.

Yep me to, I went from Nexus to Atrix, and never realised how much I was going to lose (even without considering bootloader unlock or root, though having said that it looks much easier/mature process than on vanilla Nexus). SIP is the main case in point for me, even SGS2 fanboys are moaning about it so we're not alone in that regard. Still I'm seeing numerous minor glitches here and there, nothing show stopping or heart attack inducing but still noticeably glitchier (even comparing froyo to froyo).
However if it is as rumoured a 4.5" screen monstrosity then no thanks

Yep similar sentiments, though 4"is now my preferred FF after using atrix.
If the SGS2 was 4" and not so light and plasticky I would have jumped on it in a heartbeat. I had my heart set on it until I actually played with it in person and thought why am I paying 750+AUD for something that feels like a big toy (despite how nice the internals are). For me atrix form factor and hardware is fantastic, and now software is being rectified (whereas hardware, well you're kinda stuck with it lol).

I've heard about those rumors, but they sound a bit ridiculous to me for a couple of reasons:
1. There is no benefit to releasing anything under the "Epic" name, it didn't sell that well, doesn't have name recognition and definitely is known for being super late to he updated.
2. Even if they were to release a single core phone from Samsung, the "Moment 3" or whatever they call it will already have filled the niche market of low-mid range tiered keyboard phones, there is no reason to have multiple competing phone with no real difference.

No marketing, lack of interest in a phone for 249.99 when the Evo was hyped to the max and selling for 199.99 and had accessories.
The D600 (aka Conquer) is coming soon as a replacement for the Transform, meaning it's a low (mid) end 4G slider with a full keyboard, but a 1ghz processor and a low(ish) res screen.
The Within is going to be the dual core high-end slim slab phone to compete with the E3D and Photon.
There's not really any room in between for anything that would replace the epic to be considered the EPIC 2, unless they want to have another GSII but with a keyboard, there's no reason Sprint/Samsung would make it.
If we get something replacing the EPIC, it would need to be something thinner, lighter, with a decent battery, better resolution display, and a faster processor for it to be considered a sequel, and would likely be released a while after the within (otherwise we would have seen some specs about it already.)
Also, consider that sprint doesn't usually use sequel naming, so rather than Epic 2, it would be called something different anyway. (There have been exceptions with LG, but samsung is not known for it.)
Also long as we get an sgs2 than I'm good...but if we do get a epic 2 than I want.......1.5 ghz dual core....1gb of ram....hdmi out....4-4.5" screen....android 4.0...3D cameras.... and ASOP

My idea for epic 2 would be 4.2 inch super amoled plus 8 megapixel camera back & 2 megapixel in front a 1.3 dual core processer a 5 row slide out keybord that slides up at an angle so you could watch movie or get online slide up as in it would look like a mini laptop also I would take out smiley button & put one of those little blackberry scrolling balls on right side so when your using the keyboard with the screen slanted at angle you can use that scrolling ball like a mouse! That would be the the best phone out hands down tel me not matter in fact im about to write a letter to ceo of sprint & samsung with my idea & tell them you don't have to pay me for my idea but just give me the phone a month before anyone get it!

Depends on your definition of "soon".
As of right now it looks like it will be released around November.
If you want a cynic's opinion, here it is: The Nexus S was old-hat before it was even released. The only benefit was the ease of unlocking and getting updates first, which sounds awesome until you realize that the initial versions of GB were massively buggy. I'd expect the same for ICS. Add to that the fact that HTC is making it so you can easily unlock all of their phones and the list of reasons why I would want one gets much, much shorter. Non-existent, in fact. I'm actively looking for a way to get my hands on a device with hardware that wasn't dated before the first model rolled off the line or wasn't succeeded months later by a phone with a key feature the original was lacking for a more than sub-par carrier. I've said it before, but to save you the trouble of reading it somewhere else, I should have learned my lesson about buying Samsung phones after the Epic 4g debacle but I didn't. I have now and I'll advise anyone against buying their POS devices.
what does gingerbread being buggy have to do with samsung?

I'd say before the end of the year is "soon"

When did I say it did? Never? Yeah that's the answer to that. See there are things called 'lists' where you mention many things that are all related to one other topic but are not necessarily related to each other. Like a grocery list. See cereal and baby spinach are not related to each other but they are both things I need from the grocery store. Just like GB being buggy and my hatred for the way Samsung treats its customers are both reasons why I wouldn't want another nexus device but they are not related to each other. Does basic sentence structure make sense now?

I think he was confused (as was I) by the fact that your conclusion didn't really follow from your argument. You complained about the phone being outdated and you complained about gingerbread being buggy and then you ended by concluding that you shouldn't have bought a Samsung phone. But everything you complained of was Google's doing.

I just picked up an i9020t Nexus S knowing full well that the Nexus Prime is coming. You know why?
Refined Galaxy S hardware
Comfortable rounded edges (looking at you, captivate)
Great ROM support, with ICS on the horizon
Respectable battery life
Pretty freaking fast
So yeah, the phone's hardware is dated. However, the Nexus S is my favorite size and shape, and OC'ed to 1.2ghz with some speed hacks from different places, I can't even imagine wanting for more speed. Now, this is all my opinion, but you can land a Nexus S now for a reasonable price. So get one and have several happy months of hacking!

You're my age cut the capital D happy faces.
The Note is going to be like the dell streak. I thought it was way too big to be practical, and my predictions were correct. They phone/tablet had horrible sales. This seems to be a little smaller but I think 4.6 is max . I think 4.3 big enough already but holding a 5+ inch phone in your pocket all day seems like a pain.
Galaxy nexus is my next phone the moment it drops on the sprint network

When is CES? Now!!! Have you heard anything? NO! next event is MWC which is end of Feb. After announcement (if any ) it will be about 3 months till release ....might be even later due to geographical reasons ..
Get either of the phones don't wait its not worth it

Wait for CES? Serious? CES is pretty much over already. If you wait, you'll have to wait until CES 2013. Haha.
MWC is in late February though. Rumors are Samsung will announce the SGS3 then and there. We'll see.

Technically, you cant make a comparison between a tablet n a smartphone. But i have to agree it is a pain in my pocket to carry it all around the hall day ;( im searching for a small bag that can fit my Note and can hang on my belt. Hopefully i can find one.. ^^

Can you be more superficial about stupid ****?
"The Note is going to be like the dell streak."
-wrong, Samsung has already sold a million
"I thought it was way too big to be practical, and my predictions were correct."
-your reasoning for this is incorrect. The streak was marketed extremely badly,
shipped with an very old version of android, and had performance issues.
"They phone/tablet had horrible sales."
-Yes as stated above for different reasons which are not an issue with Samsung Note and as stated they have sold a million Samsung Notes already.
"This seems to be a little smaller but I think 4.6 is max."
-a pattern of you being wrong again and again...
The Samsung Note is 5.3 which is even bigger then the Dell Streak.
"I think 4.3 big enough already but holding a 5+ inch phone in your pocket all day seems like a pain."
-another assumption? It is not a problem to have this phone even in the skinny pants that I wear all the time and I am extremely physically active.
"Galaxy nexus is my next phone the moment it drops on the sprint network"
-another bad choice, most of the world uses GSM and for good reason. If your are going to go with CDMA at least go with Verizon who has acceptable coverage only in the US. AT&T with an unlocked phone is the best choice especially if you are worldly and like to travel.

so is it a pain when ur sitting only? or also when ur walking
Galaxy Note is way better than Galaxy Nexus because of the Mali chipset, Nexus chipset is a real deal breaker, in my country Note is already selling like hotcakes where as nexus is loosing its market value.
I am going to buy Note soon.

When i bought my Note, I thought I would use it primarily as a small tablet, and that I would continue to use my HTC Sensation as my regular phone.
I learned very quickly that the size of the Note wasn't an issue, and that when I used my Sensation I just found it felt small and cramped. So, I swapped my primary SIM into the Note, and now use it as a daily driver.
Consequently, I fundamentally disagree with your assertion that the Note is too big, because it really isn't noticable either in the hand, or in the pocket.

Dave

I am a Samsung galaxy note owner after having the S2 & the HTC desire HD.
I cannot imagine ever going back to my former devices after using the Note!
It is by far the best phone I have ever had and to be quite honest I thought that the size would be a problem which later on, as I discovered, was not.
It fits in the same pockets as my S2 without any problem...
No comparison can be made hardware wise and surely if someone gets to use it, he won't compare it to any other device in circulation...

If the Mali chip is so much better, then why does the note lag while the nexus doesn't?

i chose note becuz hardware is better than nexus... 4.6" is not enough screen size anyway... software is handled by upcoming update (custom roms kickass anyway)
i just finished going to the gym with the note on my shorts pocket... had no problem there...
