I just recently acquired my second DX. While removing bloatware, I believe I may have deleted something that I shouldn't have. Now, I can't view, edit, open, call from or text from my contacts. Whenever I try, it just closes and goes back to the home screen. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I know someone out there can help me. PLEASE!!
What system version are you on?
Can you remember what all apps you removed?

I don't remember what all got deleted. My system version is 4.5.605.

Use Root Explorer or ES File Exporer and rename 'BlurContactsSync.apk' and I just renamed it to 'BlurContactsSync.bak'. I have confirmed that my contacts do, indeed, seem to sync correctly.
Remember to go into options in your File Explorer and enable root read and write permissions.
Worked like a charm! Thank you so much! Guess I didn't mess up anything after all! Weird though. Wonder why/how that happened?

Hi guys,
First of all, I would like to thank all of the developers and the people who maintain this board for providing such an amazing educational service for the rest of us. Without this website, I would never have learned how to root and do the fancy things that I can now do on my phone. thank you!!
So last night I rooted (2.2, Droid X) and removed the stock e-mail app by renaming the .apk to .bak. Today I decided that I want it back since I use 2 different e-mail accounts. After renaming the app back to .apk, I now see the E-mail app in my app drawer again. However, when I click on it, it loads a black screen for a half second, then closes. I am running LPP as well. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?
Thanks in advance!
To the best of my knowledge, you should be able to just rename it back (like you said you did, I'm just hinting maybe something got corrupted?).
Well, it seems to have suddenly fixed itself, I'm not sure what the issue was. However, it does not behave the way it did before. Prior to rooting, I had the e-mail icon in my dock (LPP) and when I tapped on it, it would load my gmail. Now, it loads the MESSAGING window with Universal Messaging, Facebook and Text Messaging. Sigh. Oh well, I guess I'll have to manage without it.
I rooted my new Epic last night using the one click root. I then deleted most of the bloatware and my phone was working fine. I may have deleted a couple of apps that I needed though accidentally. The two problems I am having are that my android market app won't open and whenever I do a hard restart of the phone my home screen apps get cleared. When I click on the Market app it flashes to a white screen for less than a second and goes to the home screen. I have tried downloading new vendor.apks and it still won't work. Any help for either of these two issues is greatly appreciated.
Try to use odin to flash a fresh di18. Search around for a thread with a tutorial (there are a lot of the, just search epic 4g back to stock or fix brick (I know your not bricked)) If this helped please hit the thanks button! Please post problems with fixing in the return to stock tread .

Thanks for the tip. I might try this if I can't figure it out soon. The only downside about this is it will wipe my contacts out right?

Your contacts should be synchronized with Google. Unless they're stored on the phone itself, they should be fine.
Hi, everybody!
I tried to search for a similar thread before I created this one, but I couldn't find one. So, if there really is one (or several), you have my apologies.
I've been playing with the side buttons config using the app NookTouchTools. First, I set them as if they were volume buttons, and they worked nice. Then, when I changed my reader app, I tried setting one of the buttons back to the way it were, to see if it worked. When I rebooted, none of the buttons worked and I've been trying out new configs since then to make them work, but it's useless.
Please, someone help me (it's really frustrating)!
PD: if you need some info about the software, ask me so I can ask my cousin, who rooted my NST.
So you're not having luck changing them around with Nook Touch Tools anymore? Are yu rebooting after changing them in NTT?
Ask your cousin if he blocked OTA updates. Unlikely anything happened recently, but an update pushed by B&N can break your root access.

Yes, that's the problem. No matter how I do it, or how many times I try, it just doesn't work...

Surprisingly (for me), he has no idea. How can we find out?
I am the cousin. I didn't do anything special, just what I did to mine, and mine's fine. Maybe reinstalling NookTouchTools or something like that?

You could try uninstalling, then reinstalling. There are no error messages or anything useful being shown? Do all other root functions work properly?
Finally, which one of you is bigger? Sounds like there's one working NST between you.

Did you change your default B&N reader? What did you change it to? Do the buttons not work in the reader only
or not in any other apps (like CoolReader).

My cousin will have to answer to all that...
EDIT:
Apparently he's on vacation so he will post in a few weeks...

No error messages anywhere. I just try to change the config, reboot and they keep on ignoring me...

I think I didn't change the default reader (not in purpose, at least), but I'm not really sure. When I use the B&N library to choose a book, it asks me which reader it is to use.
As for the other question, the buttons do not work at all. It is as if they have lost their config (in fact, in NookTouchTools no config appears).
P.D.: I'm going away on holiday again on Tuesday, so I will be long in answering again. Thanks for your help!
We have tryed wiping dalvik caché, fixing permissions, and reinstalling NookTouchTools. Any ideas?
I was having some other problems, probably concerning permissions, so I decided to re-root the device. The problem is, when I try to boot into ClockWorkMod, it doesn't load, but boots as usual, even though, in theory, CWM is successfully written in the microSD.
Any suggestions as to why that happens?
EDIT: The NTS was successfully re-rooted, after several hours working on it. The side buttons work correctly and everything is OK. Now, just to make sure this doesn't happen again, how do I block these OTA updates bobstro talked about?
Thanks for your help!
Hi Guys
This is weird. My shiny new Note 3 is about three weeks old. It's working 99.9% perfectly except for a slight sound problem. The problem is that when it is connected to a charging dock it USED to play a tone. Now it just vibrates slightly (but still charges). I also noticed that my camera doesn't make a shutter sound when I take a photo. I wondered whether the two issues are related in some way?.
All other sounds seem to be working OK on the Note3 (so it's not a volume setting) and I have checked whether option for the dock 'making a sound' is switched on. Additionally, there doesn't appear to be an option in the camera settings to switch on/off the sound, so it can't be that.
OK none of this is a major problem, but it is a bit of a niggle!
I hate niggly things! .
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
You made any changes recently?
Hiya
Yes, gazillions of changes due to installing apps! Too numerous to narrow it down to a specific action

If you can't/won't narrow it down, how is anyone else supposed to?
Do you have these checked files in the screenshot?
Thank you. That looks like a useful screenshot - where do I go to check if the sound file is checked as in your screenshot? I guess thats your file manager isn't it? I'm using ES explorer and the phone isn't rooted. Do you happen to know which folder these sound files live? I did a file search and it couldn't find any of the files shown in your screenshot
Cheers

I use Root Explorer, those files are in system>media>audio >ui.
However, as far as I know you can't access the system folder unless you're rooted, so I think it's unlikely that you've deleted them.

Thanks again - at least I know i probably haven't deleted them. I don't suppose there's a way of 'force reinstalling' the stock camera app is there?

OK case closed - I hard reset the phone, reinstalled all the original apps and the missing sounds are back. Sorted! Bit of a drastic measure though
Still don't know WHY the sound disappeared from just the docking process and the camera shutter, but it least it's all fine now
Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
Just getting the word out to everyone. This works without root and makes it super easy for you to remove any Bloatware you would like and fully control it.

I've already run it but thanks for sharing it in here:good:
didn't you already post it junior ?
Fine job making a Windows program. Unfortunately I do not know most of those apps so I will not select them. Is it too much to ask someone for a list of apk name versus function name?

The apk name is listed along with the packagename in the list. If you are unsure what things are safe to block/disable. There are plenty of people on the forum that would be willing to help you.
I did not see the package name so I will have run it again and read more carefully or try to change the size of that field.

The apk is on the left and the package name is on the right. Are you saying you would like to see the App Drawer Name ??
That would be really helpful. Thanks.
This says without root then the other page this links to says root required which is it

Yeah, it sounds like you blocked a little too many, Lol. You can simply go and save your blocked list and then Unblock all and start going one by one until you figure out which ones you do need.
Please bring all feedback and questions over to the forum dedicated for this.

Here's one thing to think about also, by accident I blocked the Google stock email , not the Gmail. I went back to unblock and I had to re-enter all my emails back again. So what I'm saying after a block and then an un-block it wipes the app. Did you expect that to happen or should I expect that to happen for most apps be turned back on?
Thanks

That's odd, it doesn't wipe any data. Nor have I had an issue like that. Let me look into it.
