Hi Team,
I have a defy+ which came with a Bl6 asia retail which I got rooted, installed almost all available roms with both Froyo and GB kernels, als got the Low battery error, did the McGyver thingi. In short, I did almost every single thing that can be done with a BL6...I guess
Finally, I did an OTA and reached the ultimate stage of BL7 .
So what I have now is a BL7 but with a SuperUser.
As I understand the device is not rooted properly and Busybox is not available, it wont let me utilize the SU. But I wanted to get your opinion on the same before I opt the BL7 rooting method which is Flashing the SBF files explained in one of the threads.
Awaiting response
Team,
Need inputs, what does the SU mean on my BL7, a) rooted? b) Rooted but without Busybox? c) Not rooted?
Super user app can bee installed on any rom: rooted or unrooted. You can download it from Google play and install but it don't help you with getting root
Sent from my MB526 using xda premium
Correct
Thnx for the response brother.. What I was referring to is the SU was retained post my OTA update to BL7 and even ROM tool box pro worked for a while..Titanium back-up prompted "Your devices seems rooted but Busybox is not available"
Both stopped working completely once I reinstalled

Hi,
Before upgrading to Gingerbread, I would like to know if the root
for Gingerbread is working fine and if the phone is, after being rooted , stable.
Daniel
If anyone wants to give this a bash you could try Gingerbreak:
NB. Your phone MUST already have S-OFF if you don't want to have to downgrade first.!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
I think you need to downgrade again before you can root your phone.
But in the development section there are stock 2.3 roms with root. Probably that's the right thing for you

Hi guys. I installed the gingerbreak apk & ran it.
It said it didn't work so I ok'd it & exited the app without rebooting.
I opened gingerbreak again & it asked if I would allow super user permission. I said yes.
Is this when I downgrade? Or can I just put new ROM on sdcard and boot into bootloader & flash it?
Sorry guys, all this is pretty complex stuff to me
Hi Folks.
For me Gingerbreak ran flawlessly.
Came from stock rom 1.32.405.6 rooted. ENG. & Radio S-off.
Installed Stock Gingerbread OTA.
Set USB debugging on.
Download & install superuser from market.
Download & install Gingerbreak.
Run Gingerbreak.
Choose "Root device"
Done!
Took about 5 min. Not counting OTA upd. of course.
Regards.
ELO
I installed the gingerbreak apk & ran it.
Gingerbreak rebooted my device but it is still not rooted.
I have S-OFF, USB debugging on and have ibstalled Superuser.
I have tried it twice.
Any idea what to do?
I have just noticed that after having upgraded to Gingerbread, My phone became S-On . This is the reason why I can't root my phone
Daniel
problem with s-off
I have problems with the s-off procedure after upgrading to android 2.3 official.
Gingrbreak works and permits rooting programs, but I'm not able to flash any otrher rom.
Any ideas? What am I doing wrong?

The information you need can easily be found in the guides on the forum, there is no need for us to hold your hand and guide you step-by-step through the whole procedure. That's what the guides are for. You need to educate yourself a bit as rooting and flashing etc. are for users with atleast some experience. We're not using iPhones here where iTunes and Apple do everything for you. This might sound a bit harsh but there are tons of people filling the forum and asking for other members here to practically do everything for them. I suggest that until you understand what rooting and flashing involves, you stay away from it.
Here's something to get you going: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936214
To obtain s-off and root with gingerbreak, these is the steps to do in order?
Root visionary-> S-off-> (Eng-off??) -> Gingerbreak, and finally clockwork recovery
But visionary is working with 2.3.3 stock htc?

You actually rooted it when it asked for Super User permission, when it didn't ask the first time around, that's because SuperUser was installed by GingerBreak.
How do I root my Defy+? Also are the Defy+ roms compatible with the original defy roms?
Wondering the same thing.

I have successfully rooted my defy + using doomlord's rooting tool.
URL
www.xda-developers.com/android/want-to-root-something-anything-try-doomlords-easy-rooting-toolkit/
My defy is a telstra branded unit running 2.3.6
I wouldn't bother with other roms just yet, mostly because of any telstra specific tweaks that you might lose, like nextG... Almost no other counties are using it, so any modded ROM based on a foreign ROM won't work without further tweaking. So bone up on how to get things working again should they break.
Once you've got the defy+ rooted you can remove the God awful telstraone app...it's pure poop. Just setup URL shortcuts to the services it tried to supply.
I'm on hols ATM and will try to cut out as much of blur as possible once i'm home.
Sent from my rooted defy+ 2.3.6 ;-)
i used SuperOneClick v2.3.1.0 and it worked whitout a problem
My response was more aimed at OP, and gauged by his avatar.
Telstra branded phones with 2.3.4, or once updated to 2.3.6, won't root with oneclick. Not the batch I experienced anyway.
NextG is a low freq variant of 3G chosen by telstra to cope with Australia's vast open spaces; hence they employ a custom production ROM. So what works in one country, on one carrier, won't necessarily work everywhere or any where else.

i did it the way AzzA68 (thanks!), told everything ok with my new Defy+, it had the 2.3.5 with Telcel (Mexico)... greets
Mines rooted, i got Android 2.3.4.
Has anyone been able to get CWM working?

It's easy. Use SuperOneClick and as the name suggests it's just one click! The lastest version works on just about any android phone, including Defy+. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
To install Cyanogenmod, there is a simple guide in a FAQ posted in the forum by one of the Dev's - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798
The way to install MIUI is basicly the same idea, except when it says to flash "update-cm-7.1.0-11-Defy-signed.zip"you flash the MIUI zip file instead.
SuperOneClick doesn't work with the defy+

I've got a Defy+ running android 2.3.6. I'm planning to install MIUI on it, but I'm not sure if any of the rooting methods work with the .6 update of android :/

DooMLoRD and the latest version of SuperOneClick both use the same exploit (called zergrush). This appears to have been fixed in the latest versions of 2.3.6 shipping on the Defy+, hence no root for the moment.

Sorry, not at the present time. Just have to wait until someone finds another loophole that can be exploited, I guess. Might be worth keeping an eye on the main SuperOneClick thread for news - the dev does say on his blog that he's planning to focus on Motorola phones next. In the mean time I am looking forward (not much) to life with a non-rooted phone, depending on how mine comes back from UK repair agent (having managed to brick it by attempting to flash incompatible SBFs in the hope that one would then be rootable).
How are you supposed to make any kind of useful backups without ClockWorkMod and Titanium Backup?
Apparently SuperOneClick v2.3.3, releaed a few hours ago, has added a new exploit to root on "Motorola." Might be worth having another try with the latest version!
SuperOneClick Does work with my Defy+
SuperOneClick 2.3.3 worked fine rooting my defy plus.
Android 2.3.4
Retail GB version:- 45.0.82.MB256.Retail.en.GB
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-ga687192

I was in the same situation for a month, until last week i did this:
flash official 3.6.8 update zip using rsd lite, this will install 2.3.3 on your device.
Then root using Superoneclick and it will work.
From here some people have said you ca install OTA root keeper so you can update to official 4.7.3 ROM, but what i did was install CM7 by vanillaLVL and it's been working perfectly.
BE CAREFULL with this method, as the very first time i tried flashing my phone with rsd lite it bricked, i could get it working again after 2 days though, just make sure you do all this on a 32 bits version of Windows.
Does this method still work on Droid Pro 2.3.4?

Hello, Does this rooting method still work on Droid Pro with Android OS 2.3.4 ? Downgrading it to 2.3.3 and then running superoneclick? Could you point me to some detail instructions somewhere! am new to the rooting process, but will do it if possible, the crap ware on my droid pro is killing the phone's performance.... also, could you please detail on CM7 ?
I assume, once the phone is rooted, I would be able to remove the crapware?
Please help.
I would like to 'root' my other halves Defy+ so that I can install Avast firewall as SuperUser.
The firewall allows me to decide what Apps get to use WiFi, 3G and Roaming, something that should be possible as standard IMHO.
Also it seems you can't carry out a complete backup without having root access.
However rooting was simple enough to do on my Galaxy Tablet and Xperia T without having to install a custom ROM.
Reading through the forums I see that I need to unlock the bootloader first (BL7 ?) which seem simple enough. Although it is recommended backing up your Rom first? - illogical as you need it unlocked and rooted to backup the Rom in the first place.
I have tried a few different methods (eg RSDLite) however the two different copies of the standard ROM downloaded are reported by RSDLite as being incompatible
Doomlord gets zapped as having an android virus embedded so I can't try that.
It is also stated that you cannot root the phone without installing a custom Rom - which is not what I want to do.
So my question is: Can the Defy+ be unlocked and rooted without installing a custom ROM ?
If it is possible could someone say how to do it ?
thanks
Stev

Hello guys
Friend of mine gave me Motorola Defy to flash into stock rom as guy from local repair shop told him that this cannot be unlocked to all networks as long as its run Cyanogenmod and there is must to install original stock rom.
I have downloaded stock droid developers in ".sbf" extension and was researching xda in order to find out how to flash it but more I researched more I afraid become to do it.
I have found so many warnings not to downgrade that phone to Froyo, some posts saying not to flash ".sbf" at all but asked you guys for help.
Is there any safe way to reduce possibility of bricking this Motorola to the minimum?
Could someone advise me what should i do in this case? Should I give up flashing?
Helpful informations:
MB525 - on the label under the battery
MB526 - detected by system CM11-20140731-NIGHTLY-mb526
Recovery - TWRP
Thank You in advance for any help provided.

Hi, you can try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50699347&postcount=511 to unsimlock while staying on cm11, but no idea if it will really work.
I have flashed my defy many times without any problems, i have used a sbf from this list http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537 and kept it as reference in order not to use a downgraded sbf.
Just make sure the defy is fully charged, rsd lite + motodrivers are installed .

Flashing with RSD Lite didn't want to work as program didn't want to discover my phone, found another solution which is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775913
Simple and works 100% even when my phone didn't turn on because wrong sbf, I could flash as many as I wanted to get the working one, which was mb526 2.3.6 version surprisingly
...
But now I need to get this devices rooted and all xda tutorials are about reflashing rooted sbf and installing twrp after that. Could someone advise me how to recognize rooted sbf which will be compatible with mb525??
I have tried framaroot to avoid flashing again but it didn't work unfortunately.

Pre-rooted rom must have "rooted" in their name, framaroot works for me.
