Galaxy Tab 7.7 versions - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

Hello,
I'm eyeing down a Galaxy Tab 7.7 but i'm in a fuddle with versions. As far as i can understand, aside from 16/32/whatever HDD versions, there are a few main ones:
-P6800 which is the international designation for the WiFi/3G version and is more expensive.
-P6810 which is the international designation for just the WiFi version and is cheaper.
-GT6800/GT6810 which i have no ideea what's different about it from the P's. Is it still just a P6800 just named GT-P6800/GT-6800 on some sites?
I so wish end-clients would have more easy access to model numbers and options instead of just blindly buying "a Galaxy Tab 7.7".

There is no difference as far as I know from the P vs GT. there is also the LTE version of the 7.7 which has 3G and wifi as well.
If you need 3G then get that model if you will not need 3g, wifi model is fine, that is the one I got and happy with it apart from honeycomb.

True, and LTE which is Verizon's version afaik but which is not something i'd want to pursue, being an EU guy.
But yes, 3G is a must for me.

The Verizon SCH-i815 variant does have the IR blaster.

The gt-p6800 no ir but I did get 32gig.

European 3G version available in Germany

European 3G version seems to be available in Germany and I'm thinking about ordering one... But I have some question before i order. I understand that the European 3G version comes with Touchwiz, is there a ROM without Touchwiz available for it? I have searched and read all the threads in development section but there is no mention about European 3G version.
Also i haven't seen any posts from European 3G owners. Why is that?

I'm also looking for the same, but for reasons unknown to me there are no custom roms for the P7500, yet. Afaik, you could try to flash a P7510 rom, but you will loose 3g. My best guess is that the 3g roms will come when more users have bought them.

yes mate.....european 3g version has TW preinstalled. got mine on friday in o2 store Dusseldorf(think i am first in my city). I have moto Xoom also but i like TW interface

I ordered mine from cyberport.de, hope to receive it this weekend.
I like Xoom because it's pure Honeycomb, so I'm afraid I'm not going to like Touchwiz (white menus and gray bottom bar). Xoom 3.2 has been ported to Iconia A500, so i'm hoping it will be possible to port it to GT10.1 also...
Hi,
I am looking forward to buy a 3g galaxy tab, do you know if it has microsd slot?
Thank you

Sorry, no SD card slot for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (3G and Wifi), at least not for the model no. GT-P7500 or P7510. There are a few site still advertising the SD card slot but the Tabs are all missing that slot.
hmm the more i read about all those issues, the more i might just get an motorola xoom to have stock android...
1. it's not sure whether the I/O tab will keep getting stock android updates or not
2. i don't know if i will be able to flash stock i/o android on a german 3g galaxy tab
My only problem is that the xoom is just to heavy, especially since im going to read a lot of news/rss feeds on the tab, so having a light tab is very important...
Can anyone who bought the Galaxy Tab in Germany confirm if the language can be changed to English? Those HoneyComb tablets like the Transformer and Iconia i see in Saturn and MediaMarkt only have German.

I'm sorry to say this, but if you want a 3G tabled then don't buy a Xoom. European Xoom's are not GED, so they don't get updates from Google. As far as i know, the European Xoom's still run 3.0.1.
If 3G isn't important to you, then you can buy a WIFI only Xoom and flash US software on it to make it GED.
I need a tablet with 3G connectivity, that's why i ordered a GT10.1

As far as i know, only US Xoom's are Google Experience Devices. It is possible to flash European WIFI only Xoom with official US Xoom software to make it GED. It's not possible with 3G Xoom because of different radios in EU and US versions. But there is a custom 3.2 ROM that reportedly works also on European 3G Xoom's, so thats a option.
About WIFI only GT10.1, as far as i know, even the IO version is not GED. If it was, then it would already have Android 3.2.
I See, so flashing the us Rom on a European xoom with 3g wouldn't work at all?
I wouldn't care if I lose the 3G, but since I can get the 3g version for the price of the regular WiFi only xoom, I might still get the 3G one (so I can sell it for more later).

I'm not sure if it's possible to flash the official US 3G ROM on European 3G Xoom, i believe i have read that it will mess up the radio firmware.
But like i said, there is a custom 3.2 ROM available that works on European 3G Xoom.
Check Xoom development forums. Here it is a little off topic i think.

Need advice on purchasing gtab from overseas.

Finally decided to jump into the tablet market and decided to choose the gtab.
But I'm in a bit of a weird position so here I am asking for your help/opinions.
Background:
Currently living in S.Korea
I want to get the 8.9 tab but a couple of problems:
The 8.9 gtab is exclusive to KT (phone carrier) and that means I'd have to pay monthly for data (Roughly $700 for a 2 year contract 16gb version). Wifi version only 8.9 gtab does not exist here as far as i know, and cannot be purchased outside of KT.
I have a few friends in the United States that can send me one, but I'm worried about and mishaps/warranty issues.
10.1 isn't totally out of the picture as it's easier to pick up in Korea than the 8.9.
Here are my questions that would help me out immensely! (Please be kind as I am a tablet noob).
1. For either 8.9 or 10.1: If I want to root my device and try out some roms on the dev pages. Is this compatible if I buy the gtab in Korea? Different firmware, hardware, blah blah?? I believe the korean model supports DMB which I don't care for, and might have a retractable antenna on top.
(Ex. if US retail version is p7310, the models im looking at in korea says M380W) How do I find out if I can root/rom the Korean version?
1a. If 1 is yes. I'll consider purchasing the 8.9(KT) or 10.1 in Korea
1b. If 1 is no. I'll have to consider purchasing 8.9 in the states.

I don't know too much about the Korean models in particular, so I can't speak for them. However, as far as root is concerned, both the WiFi and 3G "world" models (P73XX) are rooted now. As far the customer service packs, that is determined the first time you power up the device, when it asks you what language/region you're in; it'll set things accordingly.
Personally, I wouldn't expect that the Korean specific models will receive very much attention from the developer community (unless you would like to contribute to our Korean friends here!).
Speaking of development, considering how new this device is, it hasn't picked up much momentum from the development community just yet; so far we have root and one ROM, and that one is in its early stages yet. That said, considering that the 8.9 has only very minor differences in the hardware compared to the more mature 10.1, I expect we should see a lot more development fairly soon.
Here's what I would recommend in your situation: If your concern is community development support, if possible, stick to models which are most popular globally and avoid anything which is carrier specific. Unless, of course, the global models lack carrier specific features which you can't do without.
So, Global P73XX:
Root? Yep!
Custom ROM's? Yes, but only 1... so far...
Korean 8.9:
Root? Unknown. Maybe?
Custom ROM's? See Root...
Thank you jade for your response.
To clarify:
1.
When you mention "korean models", are you talking about the kt carrier specific gtab 8.9? Does the "world models" include the 10.1 that i can purchase here in korea?
world models(korean, usa 10.1) vs korean models (korean 8.9). . Correct?
2.
"So, Global P73XX: Root? Yep! Custom ROM's? Yes, but only 1... so far... "
Only 1 so far? I see a few in the dev forum.. Ie inparis, Starburst, ect. What am i missing here hehe?
From your advice, it seems that my options are narrowed to the Korean 10.1 or the usa 8.9.

When I say carrier specific, yes that would be the KT 8.9 I think. Just so that I'm being accurate, the KT 8.9 is a custom LTE version with DVB correct? If so, the hardware is probably too different for the development being done here to be applicable to that specific model.
As for the 10.1 inch model over in Korea, if it is also a P75XX, then that is the same model as sold around the rest of the world, so you should be fine with that.
P75XX = 10.1 inch tab
P73XX = 8.9 inch tab
I was referring to the 8.9 tab development so far. AFIK, Overcome is the only ROM available for that model at the moment.

4G Rom

Okay I have a new galaxy tab. I also have the SGS II, which is rooted so I am well aware of the process. I have looked all over these threads and can't seem to find a rom that works for the 4G and wifi tab. I see some that works for 3G. Need some assistance on this before I dive in and root. Thanks.
If you're talking about the sch-i905 (verizon LTE model of the galaxy tab 10.1) the answer is no. There is no CM9 ROM available that has working LTE.
So if you're in need of mobile data using the verizon version of the tab you'll have to just root 3.2 and wait.
I have the T mobile 4G galaxy Tab. I am guessing its the same thing though. Thanks.
No it's not the same thing.
When it comes to differentiating device hardware types on mobile broadband devices one should never rely on the 3g/4g nomenclature to draw model comparisons. Various carriers use the terms generally for marketing purposes. The reality is there are Galaxy Tab 10.1 devices marketed by some carriers as 4g that are LTE and some that are not. I'm not arguing that HSPA+ isn't 4g mind you, but there definitely is a difference between an LTE Galaxy Tab 10.1 and another model that's otherwise marketed as 4g.
Bottom line; look at specific device model numbers, not the 4g nomenclature, your T-Mobile based tablet is most certainly not the SCH-i905 model on which my response was based.

You should read this thread.
I went with the International version for several reasons, some of which may not apply in your case:
1. It was cheaper.
2. It has the FM radio, whereas U.S. versions do not.
3. I am using AT&T as my carrier via Straight Talk, which does not have LTE support, so while having an LTE model may result in potentially higher resale down the line, it offers no immediate benefits to me personally.
International.
$579 today.
HSPA+ is fast enough for Netflix HD streaming, which is fast enough for me. LTE is neat, but drains battery and you are at AT&T's mercy for updates. No thanks.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Samsung...nlocked-Android-Smartphone-/321014760193?var=
so, its tru that if i use a LTE phone, in an area where there is no LTE coverage, the batery drains faster?
also, i'm from mexico, and also i have a prepaid plan, and no carrier has LTE,
i has has used AT&T phones, (galaxy s2 skyrocket, the Galaxy note i717), but now, i'm not sure about geting the att note 2, or
the international....
and what about the T-mobile version? its good enough?
Go with the international one. No LTE means longer battery. No AT&T bloatware crap. FM radio. And it's cheaper.

I recently bought one from www.android-enjoyed.com and they shipped from hongkong to me. It's perfect and in a sealed box. Also available at www.gsmnation.com. Price is the factor which vendor to go with. Check if at&t support the LTE bandwidth (800, 1800, 2600). Good luck.
unless you're going to be staying a lot in Europe, the N7105 isn't going to be a particularly better phone for you with its Euro/ETSI bands for LTE. The Note2 is multiband GSM and 3G (UMTS) anyway.
And LTE isn't fully deployed across Europe either, so by the time it is, the Note3 will be here, so I would say buy a cheaper Note2-7100 and save your money!
Or buy an US variant and flash a custom ROM on it.

Just as Victorator mentioned, just get the AT&T Note 2 and flash international firmware onto it. The N7105's LTE hardware is not compatible with domestic North American LTE service, so it won't work. Fortunately, the AT&T/Rogers i317(m) Note 2's are virtually identical to the N7105 from a hardware standpoint, with the exceptions of differing LTE radios and lack of FM radio in the case of the North American Note 2's. That's why it's so easy to flash the international firmware onto them.

Niether of those are selling cheap N7105 compared to
www.negrielectronics.com
Who are also more suitably based for the OP in the US.
The 7105 LTE bands aren't the US bands but alot are buying the 7105 for its faster 3G capabilities (DC HSPA+) rather than for its 4G
Not sure whether its an advantage to have that feature in US though.
For the International version N7100, if I put in the T-mobile sim, do I only get "edge" and not "3G" ?
And with AT&T, do I at least get the 4G? I am debating to either get the AT&T one of the international one.

I'm in the same boat. I'm moving from Japan to the America, and I have an unlocked N2 with docomo. I knew off the bat that the LTE wouldn't be compatible, but didn't even consider the 3G. Hate to have such an awesome device on an ancient network.

If you have the INT GT-N7100 then you will want to use AT&T but go with Straight Talk they use att network. I use Straight Talk and get dl speeds of 6-8 up of about2-4. And its cheaper than att.
