My bro just got a fascinate that has been flashed to cricket and wants me to flash a custom ROM. I am not a noob when it comes to flashing, but I'm on at& and never messed with a cdma phone and I was just wondering if there's anything different about flashing on cdma vs Sim phones? Also because its a Verizon phone that's been flashed to cricket can I still use any ROM?eg cm7, cm9, or miui. Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to brick my bros phone. Thanks.

If you want to know how to flash this phone check out droidstyle's guide in this section. As far as the cricket stuff I can't say, maybe someone else can chime in...

Thanks for your reply. I have looked at that thread and I'm good with all that... Just need to know if it will mess up the cricket flash...

Yes you will lose flash if you put a different Ron on the phone. Cm7 does not allow thouch tones diag screen. You would need a different Rom. I am just running stock rooted and flashed.

You will not loose the flash but you will loose internet and mms. I have done this 2 times.
What would need to be done if I ran a different ROM to get my mms and internet to work or is it a lost cuase? I guess worse case scenario is flashig it back to stock.

Before you flash it download apn backup and restore and back up your apns. I usually use tokens V10 flashable zip that modifies certain areas so mms would work. The rom I have that is really fast and 100% working with cricket is Rumm Rx 1.0.

Awesome, I'll have to give it a try soon! Thanks for the information guys.
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.
I am not new to development or flashing Roms. However all my experience has been with the galaxy s lineup.
My friend has a mytouch 4g and I want to root his phone and install a custom rom for him.
I was wondering what you guys use to root, and also what you use to flash. Can I just install cwm from clockwork and install them that way? Or do I need something else?
Thanks!

The best thing to do is root using the method from the Unlockr. Which i have in my signature "how to root with root.sh". Its the same method. That should work for you. If it doesn't you might want to check the "post your eMMC serial number" thread in the general section. There is alot of valuable information in that thread regarding phones do not root using root.sh.
If you just want to force root the phone regardless of it being a good or bad eMMC you can use the ./gfree method.
as far as how to flash ROMs, you can just download Clockwork ROM Manager and flash the Clockwork Recovery image, do a back up, wipe, then flash the ROM.
Thanks. So clockwork works without any modifications. On the vibrant it worked just by flashing the recovery. But with The gs4g Krylon360 had to work long and hard to come up with a recovery and it involves replacing a system/ file. Lol
Anyways. Thanks for the advice. I'm not familiar with that way of rooting but I will look it up.

Yea, the MyTouch 4G doesn't have any goofy work arounds once you get s/off.
The MyTouch4G has a security protocol that will prevent us from perma-rooting our phones. You need to manually turn the security protocol off. That is why you see us asking newbs if their "s" is on or off (s-on/s-off). i have links for both in my signature.
You're quick to reply!
Yea I've heard about that with the g2. Thanks for the help. I can't see your signature in the app. Ill check it out when i get home.
Thanks a ton.

I do believe so. I was looking into flashing one of my X's to Cricket and it seems that a custom startup script needs to be setup to make it reflash on every boot as it is lost on power off.
I would hold off until someone more savvy to this responds.
But if I were to guess, you would lose it.

No it will not unless you sbf or use an AIO. I am on cricket network and I flash custom roms all day. The only thing I have to do is setup internet and Mms. If your not familiar with setting anything up after a flash I wouldn't flash a new rom until you find out more about it. I believe metro doesn't use proxy so all you would have to do is flash a rom and use endokis mms fix found in the Eris forums. Sorry I can't help u out any further tho. Good luck....

Yes roms in the developement section here can all usually be flashed through cwm unless otherwise stated. And I've never needed to unroot, but odin is a windows gui for flashing tar's(which are roms usually official and modems). You use Odin when you want to go back to complete stock, or modems usually. You can do other things with Odin such as flash custom recoveries like cwm. Odin is your bestfriend if you mess something up, always make sure to use a premium blackberry or other thick cable besides the one that came with the phone when using odin.(most people have difficulties with stock cable.)

I recently bought a epic 4g and I got a guy to flash it to cricket for me.
I have had this phone for a while now and I feel like I'm in need of downloading roms onto it.
Before I do so I'm sure someone has already gone through this so ijust want to be on the safe sie that after I get a custom rom eveything will work. Now I know I can root but I need to know more.
1. If I clockwork mod it and what not will my service till work?
2. After I custom rom it will I have to put my service again?
Someone please respond and explain to me what I can and can not do or wht to have caution with. Please make sure though.
Everything will work as long as the ROM you flash supports it. Just read the ROM's bug list to be sure what you need is working..
So flashing it will work no problem, if I want ics anything bad there?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA
There shouldn't be..the ROM doesn't interfere with the hardware that connects to your service provider that I am aware of..if it's for the Epic4G, it's for the Epic4G...lol just make a nandroid backup with CWM when you get it installed.
If your wanting ics.. cm9.. then there is an alternative carrier fix that needs to be applied for mms to work but yes it should work just fine on a new ROM.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Not necessarily, afaik AOSP roms like ics do not play nicely with data from other carriers. You might want to change the title of your post to "will cricket wireless work on ics"

I used the CM7 ROM from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495754 to flash my brother's epic... for the most part it works, but he occasionally has some issues getting/sending MMS and (claims) he has to go into airplane mode to get internet to work once in a while.
I can confirm that MMS send/receive does work, it just doesn't seem to be 100% reliable. It could be the fact that he's dropped his phone numerous times, enough to crack the screen.
I'm thinking of just getting cm7, but I'm having issues rooting with odin. My computer doest wanna detect my phone.

Did you install the correct drivers? Do you have a better cable than stock. Have you tried other usb ports. =]
