Flashing a new ROM while having Cricket? - Droid X General

My question is, if I have a flashed Droid X on Cricket, which I do, if I go to install a new ROM, would I lose my Cricket flash? Has anyone done this before?
Any input would be greatly aprreciated thanks!

You will not loose the flash but you will loose internet and mms. I have done this 2 times.

What would need to be done if I ran a different ROM to get my mms and internet to work or is it a lost cuase? I guess worse case scenario is flashig it back to stock.

Before you flash it download apn backup and restore and back up your apns. I usually use tokens V10 flashable zip that modifies certain areas so mms would work. The rom I have that is really fast and 100% working with cricket is Rumm Rx 1.0.

[Q] How do I restore my Droid X back to stock?

I am very new to using clockwork but I have installed the clockwork mod on my droid x and I installed a new theme. I decided that I hated the theme because it removed all of my apps, removed swype, and does so much less than the stock droid x. I tried installing another theme with clockwork but all the themes I tryed kept freezing on INSTALLING UPDATES. I just want to get my old droid x back. The way it was before clockwork. I didn't back up the stock version and I'm hearing from people that if I unroot my droid it will brick my phone since I don't have a backup. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!!!!
There are 8 billion threads on how to revert to stock.

So maderstock, if you do a data/cache wipe first, will get you from any custom rom back to oem where you can accept ota updates again?
So I could use this to go from cm7 back to stock if I want to sell the phone?
I just bought a used DX and am still reading.

I wouldn't recommend this method. Google SBFing and go that route.

Ok, and that sbf will wipe out everything so I don't need to worry about compatibility? Much like an RUU for HTC devices?

So I just rooted

Hey,
So I just rooted my DX. I have milestone overclocker and titanium backup as well as ROM manager and wireless tether. Now what do I do ? I'm sorry for being a complete noob but I'm eager to learn. I have heard a little about flashing custom ROMs and was just wondering if there was one that is like Gingerbread (2.3) out for the DX. I just got this phone a month ago and I ready to jump on the Rooting Wagon

I would recommend looking around the Droid X android development forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=691
Here is where you will find a lot of the discussion and posts from Developers about their ROM's. I think Fission (latest is 2.5.7) has a gingerbread theme set up. I believe there are others as well.
When it comes to ROM's its really a personal decision. In my opinion, all the bigs ones (Rubix, Fission, Liberty, Cobalt, GummyJar, Tranquility, Apex) are all AMAZING roms. It's really just what you like the feel of... I personally use Liberty 1.0 right now. Its a combination of Kejar31 and Jrummy's work. There is a "new" dev team, phoenixdevs, that will be picking up the GEM series that cvpcs (one of the most amazing android developers ever) had been doing.
To start, just make sure you have a nandroid backup from Koush's recovery, and then try out the different ROM's you are interested in and see what you like best.
If I can make a recommendation about themes...check out Bignadad's themes... He does work for Rubix, Liberty, and GummyJar. Here is his latest work:

If you have more questions, feel free to ask!
Thank you so much. You are such a big help. I have rom manager and did a backup but I was wondering how do I get nandroid?

No problem. You can grab it from the attachment below =)
then just move it to your phones sdcard. Use a file manager like Astro File Manager (free on the market) to browse on your sdcard. Press on the .apk file and then press the install option.
Then in your application menu, find the app, then click the first option (this hijacks the boot process the same way that ROM manager does). ROM manager has a built in version of this app and does the same thing. I just prefer to do it through Koush's app personally.
After you click the top button a pop up should come up with the word success (press this). Then click reboot recovery. From there, use the volume up/down buttons to move the green cursor that highlights the options, and use the camera button to select. Go down to Backup and Restore (press camera button to select), then press camera button when Backup is highlighted. (I am merely suggesting how I do it, as I don't rely on ROM manager for much personally. that and I dont remember how ROM manager manages backups... LoL).
It will do its thing, then bring you back to the main menu when it is finished. Click the camera button on "reboot system now" and you now have a working backup. They are stored on your sdcard in the following hierarchy: /sdcard/clockworkmod/backups
Then you just use that same menu if you ever want to restore using the restore option instead of backup =D
I also use Koush's app to install my custom ROM"s and themes as well. You just go down to the option that is something like "install .zip from sdcard" and then you can browse your sdcard for any ROM/theme/mod you have downloaded and saved there...
Hope this helps! Ask if you have more questions, I'm glad to help =)
Wow you made this sound so simple that I just did a nandroid backup on my phone for the first time! I have had my X now for about 4 months its been rooted since day one but I've never had the courage to go forward with roms. So is it really that simple , just dl the rom and flash it with Koushs bootstrap? If I flash a rom but want to update via ota to gingerbread I would just flash my nandroid using the flash rom from. Zip option? Im excited to start with roms I never ralized it was this easy to get back to stock!

Also do you have to use titanium backup to backup apps to use in new rom, or can you use what is in the nandroid to reinstall apps on rom?

Yes it really can be that simple. just keep track of any backups you make, and always restore back to a clean nanroid for when OTA's come out, and you should be good. Just make sure if an OTA comes out and the bootloader version gets updated, don't go back to a nandroid with a different bootloader...you will brick your phone.
Example: on old ota (2.3.15) and update to 2.3.34. Then try to go back to 2.3.15=brick =(
Thanks this is great and so helpful

Depends on what you mean by 3g hotspot. There is "wireless tether for root" in the market for free. This allows you to tether using your 3g signal. The default Verizon app (don't think it is in Liberty...) requires a paid service... People have found hacks to get by this, but I don't recommend it, since it is cheating the service provider (Verizon) out of money if you hack their app.
I see no problem with wireless tether for root tho! Totally a dev's own work to get free tethering.
Thanks

I have been unable to root my DX, can you tell me where you got your information on rooting?

Milestone X root

Hi everyone I have a rooted evo and I've rooted and unrooted a couple times and I am very compfortable with flashing roms because I do it all the time. My boss has a milestone x and she wants me to root it for her. I was wondering if someone could give me a list of roms that are stable and work well on milestone x also hotspot working! Also is there an amonra recovery I can put on. If anyone has the files I will need to root that would be great. On my Evo I just unrevoke then flash amonra and a Rom and its in business. Is there a big change on how to root this? Thanks a lot Droidxers I really appreciate it!

I recently purchased a milestone x the gingerbreak app worked for me
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I rooted mine using SuperOneClick root and it worked easily!
As for a working ROM I have read that it is a long process to make Droid X ROM's work with our APN's and it is possible to get stuck with Verizon's network so I haven't even tried it.
What I have done that has made the experience much different is install some apps and script's that 180'ed the stock ROM and make it feel like a completely different device.
Well this is what I did, I searched gingerbreak on 4shared . Com website, downloaded, open it, then press root. The root is successful when it turns off, if it doesn't work redownload another apk..
For the CMW recovory..I searched droid x bootstrapper, again on 4 shared..pressed bootstrap recovery, then reboot recovery.
Far as custom roms go its not many that work on Milestone X, Liberty 2.0.1 does with no tweakin..
Miui and Cm7 works with a script kernel tweak seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?nomobile=1&v=vxZ7cBt2K-Q you just have to delete the Verizon kernel script with notepad and save the changes..the exact tutorial is under "show more" under the video..that should work

Changing ROM remove flash?

I have a droid x flashed to metropcs. If i change the rom will it remove the flash on my phone?

I do believe so. I was looking into flashing one of my X's to Cricket and it seems that a custom startup script needs to be setup to make it reflash on every boot as it is lost on power off.
I would hold off until someone more savvy to this responds.
But if I were to guess, you would lose it.

No it will not unless you sbf or use an AIO. I am on cricket network and I flash custom roms all day. The only thing I have to do is setup internet and Mms. If your not familiar with setting anything up after a flash I wouldn't flash a new rom until you find out more about it. I believe metro doesn't use proxy so all you would have to do is flash a rom and use endokis mms fix found in the Eris forums. Sorry I can't help u out any further tho. Good luck....

Fascinate on cricket

My bro just got a fascinate that has been flashed to cricket and wants me to flash a custom ROM. I am not a noob when it comes to flashing, but I'm on at& and never messed with a cdma phone and I was just wondering if there's anything different about flashing on cdma vs Sim phones? Also because its a Verizon phone that's been flashed to cricket can I still use any ROM?eg cm7, cm9, or miui. Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to brick my bros phone. Thanks.

Yes you will lose flash if you put a different Ron on the phone. Cm7 does not allow thouch tones diag screen. You would need a different Rom. I am just running stock rooted and flashed.
