Please Help, very frustrated - Galaxy Tab General

First off, here is the problem. I have inherited (read, bought for a few bucks to help him out..) what appears to be a soft-bricked sch-i800 verizon galaxy tab from my friend, who it seems has totally messed it up... He can't relate, well enough to me, what he did and didn't do... Worst case scenario, it's completely possible he flashed gsm stuff to this...
What I've done: every stinking tutorial I can find on cmda tabs inclusive of the ones here at xda.
I am fairly certain this is salvageable, but I can't find how, orrrr the proper files that I should be using. One place says to use these and another says to use those... one says to use odin, another says heimdall... and I have no clue what firmware versions this was. Download links are broken all over the place, so I can't get this or that. Can someone help me find the proper everything I need?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Paul

ok, well.. let's icksnay that last post altogether... no longer turns on... anybody have a the contact info for the guy who you can send it to for $50????

There is a power fuse on your XDA board. It could be damaged. It can be replaced or short-cut. There are pictures and instruction available on this forum. If this was the case, you'll need to undestand what had hapened first !
Tanguy
Hi, thank you for your help, you mentioned about pictures and instruction
of a power fuse in this forum, and that's what I'd like to start from, only have problem to find them, if you could please guide me to them. Next step 'll be FREEZER!!!!!!
Using the search function
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4811&highlight=power+fuse
Or browsing the Wiki section :
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/uploads/tmobile-pocketpc.pdf

I did not find exactly the one I wanted.
Try searching further with other words
Thank you Tanguy, will do again seach, will let know everybody if any luck, I see many people have the same problems not the same solutions.
OK, I couldn't get data sheet to find the power fuse and went to freezer staff for 20 minutes, doesn't work for me, any idea for the next step??
This is the post I was looking for.
I foud it searching with "fuse pics"

Give us more background of how did you get Hermes brick ? I have been spending almost the whole last week trying to fix my Hermes and I have almost tried all methods provided by this forum. And perhaps we should share our experience for the benefit of the users here.
My problems is that the Hermes could boot up but it seems there are issues in the radio, ie "NO GSM". It keeps come and go which caused my Hermes (Softbank) very unstable when using the telephone functions.
heres the problem.
ill pay someone 50 bucks if they help me get this bad boy workin. im desperate.
i have the olipro 2.10 bootloader. it says spl-1.40.olipro. eh?
i can install the OS. im using Hermes_WM6_WWE_vp3G_v3.61.0_ATT_Full. it installs perfectly.
its the radio that is the problem. i try to update the radio and its stuck at 0%. ive been reading the stickys and looking at the types of bricks. i still cant get it to work.
i formatted my SDcard to fat32 and i copied the nbh file and put it to HERMIMG and it got to the screen but it freezes at GSM.
i put the GetDeviceData in the phone and ran it. got that txt and opened it from my desktop and it doesnt tell me my CID. but im from california. and im using cingular. haha damn. i know im being one of those damn annoying asses but...****. 50 bucks? someone?
my friend also has the same exact phone (cingular 8525) and her radio version is the 1.16 one.. and i tried to install that.. not workin it freezes
OK, need some info.
Which bootloader that you have 2.10Oli or 1.40 Oli?
What radio version that you have before your phone become brick?
holy ****. i fixed it. i ****ing fixed it. praise god! the sdcard method is a life saver.
i can TRY to help others. i have no idea. maybe i should do a video tutorial of how lucky i got. haha

SD Card slot.

Problem just started on my Uni.
SD card will no longer stay in. I can hear the little click (though it doesn't sound as positive as it did) as it goes in, but it doesn't stay there - just springs out.
Anyone ever experienced this before?
Better still, anyone have a fix?
The Uni is useless to me without it.
Thanks.

Maybe you already done this: Have you tried with another sd card?
Still same?
If yes try to see inside to confirm that nothing is broken at simple view
I´m sure someone will come with a wiser sollution
Good luck,

Hi - thanks for the reply. I've found replies are few and far between sometimes..
Yes, I've tried other cards. This latest one (the one I *think* may have broken it) is a legitimate 8GB card bought from a reputable high street store. A waste of damn time anyway because the Uni will only see 4GB of it, depsite doing something to make it see more not long ago (I forget what it was). I Googled the expansion slot problem and found a quick-fix. Add a layer or two of Scotch tape. The card becomes thicker and 'stays' in the slot. It works very well, but it's not my ideal long-term fix.
All that said, my brand new Universal arrived this morning (£60 GBP would you believe..) so I guess now I'll be reading up on how to flash the ROM.
I haven't flashed firmware on a Windows handset since my HTC Canary 7 years ago..

Well hope you can solve the issue!
Good to hear that you have a new Uni!!
May I know where you´ve got that great deal? and if possible I would like to buy one!
For flashing instructions read here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Uni_ROM_Upgrade
And personally I recommend you Tomal v.8.5 the fastes and stable 6.1!
Good luck!
Hi again.
It was a UK eBay "Buy It Now" offer.
I was browsing Uni/Exec/SPV etc and refreshing waiting for a particular auction to end when this one just popped up with charger, new battery, leather case and 3 x stylus. It looks/smells brand new. Incredibly lucky I know.
Thanks for the advice on the ROM. I'm just reading through where/how/why and whatnot now. I have a G3 device so I think I can just go ahead and flash.
But as I say, I'm reaqding through the Wiki and the threads. I have seen others mention Tomal's ROM. I'm looking for as Vanilla as possible. This unit for me will ideally run TCMP as best as it can and Vijay's FullScreen along with terminal services. Everything else is a very distinct second priority. I have a Wizard I use for TomTom and a Nokia N95 for an everyday phone. This just needs to be a media player and a remote access unit for my desktop machine. Apart from a file explorer, I could pretty much do without everything else.
Thanks again.
Orb, that Wiki entry needs updating somewhat. There's loads of issues not covered there. The Tomal is a single installer and presumably doesn't need the programs mentioned (though it briefly mentions that at the end). There should be a distinction made there. Some ROM's need these programs, some are single installers, if so ... ... ... ... etc. Not some half-assed brief mention with no other instructions. I presume I just double click the installer in Bootloader and leave it to it???
It says I need to CID/EROM unlock but fails to explain what these are?! More searching shows that it's extended ROM and SIM lock that need removing. What point is there using acronyms for a supposed 'newbie' tutorial..
My unit won't run the EROM program complaining of needing a new NET framework.
This isn't mentioned. Not that you may get this error, what it is, or what you need to do if you do.
The SIM unlock won't run either. Once my unit is in bootloader mode and showing 'serial' I plug in the USB lead and it shows 'USB'. I run the SIM unlocker and it eventually says 'this is not for your device'. More searching and I find I need to be using XP to do this, not Windows 7 or Vista.
Searching about I see loads of people with similar problems. If the Wiki was updated, then when people pointed users to it, then it would do it's job (which is presumably to help people and prevent the forum being full of questions, which it obviously is..).
Looks like I need to get onto an XP machine and do some serious searching through the sometimes 50 page long threads before I risk bricking my Uni.
I'm more than happy to do research if that's what I need to do, but what's the point in promoting a Wiki if you have to ignore half of what it says and find out for yourself anyway?
Not a rant at you by the way. Just a post made from observations.
Cheers.
Hi kryogenik!
I completely agree with you. My Uni came to me from uk with WM6.0, so I supposed it was unlocked and I made various flashes with no fear.
With a friend of mine Uni things were different: it had a stock WM5 and I tried reading wiki to get some answers, but the only thing I obtained was confusion.
I'm really not a newbie on computer systems, and I assure that the wiki has to be freshed out!
Turning back to the wm5 uni, I simply ran the executable from Tomal (8.2) and everything worked fine. So... what is really needed to?
@orb3000: when a newbie comes here asking for instruction on how to flash you always make a ctrl+c ctrl+v with wiki link... Why don't you try reading it with "newbie's eyes"? As kryogenik said, I won't attack you, it's just my thought...
Cheers...

Yeah, as dear Admin said "Wiki is a strange place"
Why not try to post this request on the proper place on general section
"request to mods by users"
I think that will be the place to have an answer

Exactly. There are some very odd ideas about what a tutorial is.
I'm hardly a newbie myself, but when there's something so valuable at risk it obviously makes sense for things to be right? Why bother otherwise.

Well, I've got the extended ROM showing. I can understand that needing to be done - perhaps the new ROM needs it writable. I can't for the life of me imagine why the unit needs to be SIM unlocked though?? I have seen posts from people who have SIM unlocked AFTER a ROM flash so I'm thinking perhaps this isn't the case?
Did you do either of these? Or maybe your unit was already in this state?

Thanks Orb. But it's not a request. I have a feeling it wouldn't be acted upon anyway. I can't be the first to point out inconsistencies.
I run a website and Vbulletin forum too. The day I have to rely on someone else to tell me it's not right is the day I give it up.
It sounds like I'm bashing XDAD. I'm really not. It's been a lifeline for me numerous times (the forum I must stress, not the WIKI).
I'm just surprised that such a fantastic resource is being let down by the one thing it should be proud of.

I also was a newbie sometime, and I found that if everybody gives me easyly all my questions and problems I will not learn never! and I will get used to demand that people has to give me the answer right away!
So no my friend, I understand is not an attack and I´m also friendly:
But said that I´ll push newbies to do it by themselves, even if it´s a little bit more difficult
At the end they as me wil apreciate it, because we learn to SEARCH and READ
lol.
Cute idea but there's a big difference between encouraging someone to help themselves and pointing them to articles that do the exact opposite to what they're supposed to do (i.e. confuse rather than assist).
Everyone needs to start somewhere, but you NEED to have at least some correct and up to date information to send you on your way.
You wouldn't give someone a manual for a 1972 Ford and tell them to read it so they can fix their 2009 model.
Anyway, that's my opinion on it. I hope one day someone has time to add missing bits to the Wiki. I appreciate it could be a major task. As I said, essentially this will save on hundreds of people posting the same problems over and over again and people getting sick of replying to the same posts over and over again.
It's simple common sense.

Agree mate
I´ll try to find out how we can update the Wiki
Have a good day

Newbie with limited knowledge in need of help ..

Teenage son swam with his one month old LG G2. Ouch.
Used reviveaphone liquid as only 12 quid and worth a try. I'm amazed but it actually seems to have worked, except I think in water shorting the phone we've lost the root because on the firmware update screen I get a message "920K 8100 Unrooted" appearing in a rectangular box at bottom of screen.
I'm a little computer savvy but know nothing about mobile roots. I imagine this is the built in Rom that fires everything up which has got corrupted by the water. I realise I might be wasting my time and it may be fried but being only one month old I want to give it a good try before binning it.
I don't want any hacked rom or anything complicated just want original rom restored if possible?
I expect there's a sticky that someone can link me to? I'm not completely sure which model I have but the back is off and maybe there's some identifier in there?
Sorry to sound terribly dim! Any help most gratefully received!
If you do reply can you please bear in mind I know none of the technical terms! Thanks
Okay, so the device is working? Does it boot into a workable mode or are you only getting that box with unrooted text? That doubts like you're in download mode.
Without knowing which variant you have, this is going to be tough. Start with this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705259
That should link you to everything you need to know to get back to stock rom.
This link will take you to a thread which will use a program on Windows to get back to stock rom as well.

[Q] Touch screen problems... not registering touches properly

So I really hope that someone can help me here as I seem to have a big problem... I'll try to write this out from the beginning...
Ordered my phone from Hong Kong. It is a D802 model. 3.4.0 kernel, d80210b software 32gb (likely the HK version right?). I knew that it was upgradeable to kitkat and so I downloaded the LG mobile support tool and plugged in my phone. I set the country and region to UK and set it to upgrade the software. Then I let it do what it does. At the end of the process the phone was stuck in bootloop on the LG screen with the indicator light switching between blue and green.
I then tried to fix it using the LG flashtool, but it wouldn't go into download mode and went to fastboot. I figured that it was stuck in fast boot and so I did the laf.img fix that is out there to try to restore download mode. The laf.img file I used was for a 16gb D802, not a 32gb like mine. I'm wondering if that is what created the issue that I have. Anyway, this allowed the phone to start in download mode and from there I flashed the software to Hong Kong d80210b 32gb.
This is where I noticed the big problem that I am currently experiencing and need help with. My phone screen does not register my touches in the right places. If I try to tap a location on the screen (an onscreen button) it will register the touch somewhere else completely. I thought that it might be an android version issue, but I upgraded to European open D80220D_00 (it doesn't seem to specify 16gb or 32gb) using LG flashtool 2014 and the issue remains the same.
I am unable to use the phone completely and I assume that the issue is deeper than the android version. I would really like to resolve this issue somehow. Does anyone have any idea? I'm thinking that if I could force a complete re-install of everything that might fix it. I was told by a useless LG rep (over the phone) that I would have to give my phone to my service provider and have them send it off to a technician to re-install the software, but I figure anything they can do I can do as well... right?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!!
Seriously, all this knowledge and no one can offer me any help? Is there maybe some driver on the phone that is bad? Where would I find that? How would i replace it with a good one? Do I replace the Kernel? I don't really know how to go about this. Any help would be great.

You may not see the replies you want because alot of times your questions have already been answered and some of us have moved on to other phones etc and no longer visit these forums.
Search....
Your problem sounds like a faulty digitizer
I appreciate the response and info.
As far as searching goes, I did, for hours. I spent my long weekend here and all over the web looking for a solution with any possible number of keywords. I didn't come up with anything.
Faulty digitizer would make sense, although it appeared to be working prior to the upgrade... I would be happy for a faulty digitizer as that should be covered under warranty.
Thanks,
Mike
so sorry to burst your bubble but i don't think its hardware prob i have the same prob as you , ppl say update ur touch S/W and i know u cant cos u cant even dial 3845#*802# to do it , i also spend 2 days trying to fix it with no luck
