Just remove all the letters remaining, HDmini back cover looks nice without any letters.

damn i'll try on hermes too ....and on my artemis ....
but in my ce emulator it also didn't work fully correct....
sometimes i just get black buttons....
It works on my Trinity (WM6) but not the symbol page. But I'm ok with it. Like the 'intelligence' of this over T9, but the scroll left and right (on screen) button is a bit too 'small' and near the edge for ease of scrolling. If that can be fixed, it will be even more perfect.
no good for elf
when i set in french language they a are no letters on keypad
thank you
Anyone manage to 'perfect' this beta version?
While it is useable, without the symbol can pose some inconvenience when you need the symbols.
It works fine on my touch. To get the symbols in blue you press and hold the key. It takes a little getting used to so you don't end up with .. but it does work.
For those getting blank screens, this should only happen when you bring up the keypad without selecting a text field. Meaning if you are in a selected text box the keys should display.
Another bug I found was if you install this keypad and then choose another one that you have installed (pocketCM, HTK, etc), it will not display any text. It's like you are typing in white. The cursor advances, but no text displays. I had to un-install this keypad to get my other input methods to work.
It may sound a little obsesive, but I timed myself using this new touch dual keypad and my pocketCM skin (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1597831&postcount=21) and every time I was able to type faster and more accurate with the pocketCM version. It was close (1:11 vs 1:08) for a couple sentances. I'm glad to see HTC putting a real finger operational keyboard on the Touch, but for now I will stick with pocketCM.
works on the mogul, install, soft reset...

Nah man, that's a great idea. I think a "type-off" of sorts is a good way to determine what's best; although everyone has difference preferences, I think 90% of us subconsciously type the same.
any status on a new version that works a little better?
thx.
e..b
working on Hermes!
Its working fine on my Hermes WM6. Still get the blank buttons when trying to use it outside an application. But within application (e.g. Onecontact, IE ect..) all working fine. Even symbol key is working fine.
Its a great keyboard (esp. the T9 version)...First keyboard where the buttons are large and responsive (iv used sooo many now!).
btw...dont forget to softreset after installation before use!
No symbols
I get all the characters and numbers but the symbols are all blank. I am in the UK. Otherwise it's okay. I personally don't like PocketCM because unless there is lots of free memory it just pops up the default keyboard for me.
is there any way to turn the xt9 off i used the keypad for 5 mins adn when i switched to the normal keyboard the xt9 was still there.. can it be turned off?
^^yeah I found that incredibly annoying, I LOVE this keyboard but I had to uninstall it because the T9 would be there even when using the hardware keyboard!
Can anyone post any pics of this keyboard?
Yeah...T9 still there on hardware keyboard is really annoying!

soft keyboard

I like to carry my Advantage on the leather cover without the keyboard, what help to keep it protected without making too much bulk on my pocket. I have tried many of the soft keyboards available and like very much Resco, Zoomboard and PocketCM. However I think the best layout is the one which have the keys on the 'smile' orientation which apparently none of them offer. I'm using SPB full keyboard because of that but don't like the fact it covers the all screen, it's more oriented for small screen than to the Advantage. Does anyone knows about a VGA skin on this shape? What everybody is using for soft keyboard?
I've tried many software keyboard. I always go back to Tengo 2.1. If you're not using 192dpi, it's good to also have Resco Keyboard in addition to Tengo 2.1.
At the moment I'm back to using my device in 192dpi again, after using it in 96dpi for many months. At this dpi, I like to completely do without the stylus. So I've redone my iLauncher to use the Thumb tab and have big icons throughout. Tengo 2.1 works very well for Thumb typing. There are only six big keys (or rather six areas of keys) to touch most of the time, so its really easy. Tengo's keyboard size is the same under all dpi. It does not invade your screen like some other soft keyboard, despite having one of the largest sized keys (or areas of keys).
One other important consideration is weather or not you need to input in other languages too. If you need to input in East Asian language, then your choices may be different again, just as example.
Thank you Eaglesteve, I will try Tengo. I'm using 192dpi also because on the move I need something that I can easy 'shot' the right key due to the large icons instead of 'aiming' perfectly on the bullseye. Many times walking and working with the Advantage, what a great machine!!

Be sure to go through the tutorial first.
If you're using it in 192 dpi, forget about Resco, because Tengo 2.1 has three different layout, one of which is the big sized standard keyboard, which is good for typing in software serial number, etc. The other two layouts are not suitable for such job.
The thing that you will like about this keyboard is that it is not necessary to type the specific key precisely although that would also work. The idea is to allow you to be very very imprecise and yet give you the correct words to choose from. Your finger need not travel all over the place when you type. Just touch the TYGHBN area.
If you need special and unique words, then go for the key precisely. What you type will appear on top right corner. Just choose that word instead of the proposed ones. Once you have used that unique word once, it automatically gets added to the dictionary so that you can use that word by typing imprecisely at the six area later on.
Enjoy.

Not sure if I understand what you're asking. If your question is what I think it is, then the answer is to use realVGA. Am I missing something?

No more predictive input for names?

Hi all, not sure if I'm the only one with this problem. Initially, when creating new SMSes, under the "To", when i start to key in the first few alphabets of the contact's name, the suitable names that begin with those few letters will be displayed at the top of the keypad for me to choose, so i don't have to key in the whole name. But i notice that recently, i have to key all the alphabets of the name, before it appears at the top of the keypad for me to choose? I never install any new programs before this happened so i doubt it's a clash of software. Anyone has this same issue as me?
yeah, there seem to be a problem with the hd.. i use the classic windows keyboard and it did not show up earlier.
so i followed some guys instructions with some registry edits and its working alright now. but the large qwerty of htc still has the problem. i dont use it so its no biggy for me as long as my classic keyboard works.
and on the large qwerty, i noticed that it showed up the suggestions as soon as u hit backspace after u write the first two or three letters of the name. for example, if u wrote 'smit' and hit backspace, it would show up 'smith 7906561' on the suggestion list..
this is what happens to me on the large qwerty.. check whether it happens on urs.. and if ur using the classic keyboard, i'd post the registry edits i made.. goodluck!

I think you guys have the same problem as the Touch Pro - it's T9 getting in the way. If you disable T9 then you can use other keyboards (there's a new shiny black on in the Blackstone forums) and get predictive text working properly or use the Full QWERTY keyboard which will likely work with a few kinks. Here's a long but detailed article on what to do to fix it and what you gain and lose: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=1527
since the Pro and HD have the same software and are similar on hardware I'm presuming this is exactly the same issue.
here you go op this works

Looking for that old keyboard

Hi everyone, I just got my brand new Jade, and I'm happy and satisfied with it: faster and more stable than my old Elf, I've got nothing more to ask.
Well, maybe one thing.. I miss my old keyboard.. the one I attached to this thread.
In fact, having the question and exclamation mark, and the the at, without switching pages, spared me some time.. it was fast and light.
Is there any way I can have it onto my Jade?
Cheers everyone

the times they're a changin'
Press keyboard icon (at Bottom Bar) - select "Other Input Methods" - Keyboard.
Not that easy, I would have figured that out..
the keyboard found in "Other Input Methods" looks alike the one I've seen on the Touch HD, it's bigger, it has an "iphone layout" (letters become bigger when selected and you can move your selection around the keyboard) and special characters (as well as question and exclamation marks) come in pages .. too bad I do not have a screen for that!
Could it be that the keyboard I'm looking for can be 'imported' from my Elf?
Edit: I've found in another thread the keyboard I meant that comes with the 3G, and that I'd like to change; here it is
Well, on mine I have both the keyboad layouts that you posted.

Click the small up arrow next to the keyboard icon at the bottom of the screen.
Select 'Keyboard' at the bottom of the Settings Panel (below Full QWERTY).
Now go Start -> Settings -> Input and select 'Large Keys'.
Thanks Jademan, but that was the one I am already using.. I am gong to post you both keyboars so we can spot the differences.
Yet while I'm writing a doubt attacks me..
Could it be that the keyboard on the Elf (the one I like most) comes with the english language, while the one I have on the Jade comes with the italian language? Well, since in the Jade's one stressed letters are displayed, and right where the buttons I'd like to have should be, it could be reasonable..
....... so I just changed language, but nothing happenes, still the stressed vowels.
Damn ...
Edit: double post

Yes, that's the problem, the MS keyboard on your Jade is Italian and uses the @ and & keys for different symbols. I think you may need to do some registry editing to get the keyboard up you want.

On-screen keyboard question

Does anyone know of a good keyboard replacement for the *sprint* HTC Hero? Or a way to make it larger for my fat fingers?...I mean BIG BONED fingers?
Hello.
I think the best one for "big boned fingers" is Better Keyboard :
http://betterandroid.wordpress.com/2009/05/24/introducing-better-keyboard-for-android/
It looks ugly but the keys are pretty much larger

Have you tried the HTC T9(Compact Qwerty) keyboard?
I would recommend Touchpal. I used that back on WM and i have installed it on my Hero. However i have reverted back to stock keyboard after updating Paul's ROM to the latest one as it doesnt lag that often anymore.

I noticed that it helped quite a bit in vertical typing, but i still notice some poor response horizontally. is there any way to calibrate the keyboard in horizontal mode?
