Rooting and unlocking bootloader.. - Xperia Arc General

I'm trying to get CM7 onto my girlfriends Arc. Its 2.3.4 and .62, so I guess I have to flash .42 to be able to root.
The thing I am unsure about is whether you can get CWM recovery in without having to wipe the phone. That is, can I in any way do a nandbackup of the current phone with stock ROM, without having to wipe? Or does flashing a new recovery always come with the added wipe of the phone? At what stage does a wipe necessarily need to occur?
Would be thankful for any help.

In order to install cwm you'll either need root or unlocked bootloader. If you want to take a backup of the .62 I would suggest unlocking your bootloader then using fastboot to boot (rather then flash) a kernel that had cwm integrated with it. That way you can get a perfect nandroid of its current state. However I'm unsure if unlocking via SE will cause you to lose data. I believe SETool and omnius won't cause data loss.

Restore to stock after root / CWM

I know there are other threads relating to this but I can't seem to find a definitive answer and the info required seems to get lost in all the conflicting opinions.
I'm sure a concise explanation of how to restore the nexus s to out of the box condition after root and recovery mod would benefit many.
So, can someone in the know PLEASE explain how to restore the nexus s to factory default (system image, bootloader and recovery) after modding?
Thanks in advance.
43 view later and nobody knows?
Ok, I'll elaborate on my reasons for posting....
In the sticky in this forum it says quite clearly:
"Q: How do I restore the stock recovery?
Right now, it is NOT possible to flash the stock recovery over Clockwork Recovery at all. The only way to restore it is by NAND restoring the Stock 2.3.1 backup in the development section."
Now, as I understand it the "stock 2.3.1 backup in the development section" is not stock at all, it's an adapted image and therefore NAND restoring this backup will not put my phone back to factory out of the box state.
Unless I am missing something?
All I am looking for is a simple guide to removing everything following root / recovery mods.
If you're already on 2.3.1, then it should be easy.
Use adb to rm the su binary in the /system/bin directory.
Remove the superuser.apk as well.
Reboot the phone. There's a script in 2.3.1 that reflashes Google's 3e Recovery every boot.
Fastboot oem lock (if it's still unlocked).
Fastboot oem unlock (to totally wipe the sdcard and user data partitions on the phone).
Fastboot oem lock again to remove the unlocked lock icon on reboot.
Factory Wipe the phone.
I don't believe anyone would be able to tell you were previously rooted or non-stock recovery at that point, unless you've modded apps in the /system partition with themes or the like.
Thanks for that.
Not exactly as straight forward as it is with the HTC then - connect to PC and run an exe to flash the ruu.
I'm going to leave well alone until I make the decision to keep the phone. Shame though, I wanted to. try the custom roms (what few there currently are).
Thanks again but it needs to get simpler and be 100 percent proven before I start delving into the unknown!

Bootloader can it be deleted

I know i can reinstall Roms on the EVO., Have done RUU supersonic 3.30 .. and 3.29 ... ., my EVo is rooted and one option in the recovery menu is to wipe boot loader ..
not sure if this is the software that control the phone .like the bios on a pc.?
if i want to delete boot loader would that brick the evo.?
If not can i reinstall Boot loader then ruu supersonic ., and if boot loader gets deleted would that zero the Meid .?, or the Meid in a separate chip that the boot loader control it.?
any good info feedback is appreciated .sincerely
I got a headache!

...what? removing the bootloader would make your phone a brick though. But um what are trying to ask?
I noticed that too, in the latest amon RA recovery there is an option to wipe the boobloader, somebody should volunteer and do it take one for the team.
yes to format boot loader ., i found some files here like radio roms prl .. wimax ...etc and bootloader ., but indicate that the latest bootloader can not be downgraded ., so if there are online bootloader for the evo with different builds , how can a bootloader be loaded on the evo.
as far as i know the bootloader is the software that works with the phone ICs and the bootloader execute the OS for the phone .No??
if you go to recovery after you root the phone you have that option .,
the question if the phone is formatted ., what do i use to load a bootloader back to phone. I messed up my MEID while i was expereminting with the evo., cant get the meid back to what i want it., spent few weeks with no go.,some meids i cant scan them they just wont show up.,so iam quitting .i would like to nuke all files and reinstall.
It says boot, not bootloader. They're different. Wiping boot refers to the image that contains the kernel. It's ok to wipe that before you flash another ROM, though usually it wouldn't be necessary. If you wipe without flashing something to replace it, the phone won't boot, but you can still get into recovery.
Boot loader on the other hand, is something you never want to be without. I think it technically can be upgraded, but it must be done right, and it's rarely necessary to do so. If you didn't immediately replace it with something else, I don't think you'd ever get it running again without special tools and methods. Amon definitely doesn't have a wipe bootloader function.

[Q] Does relocking the bootloader wipe data?

Hello,
I want my device to be secured. In order to have it secured, I only install the recovery from RomManager when I need it and I let it get restored on reboot.
But the fact is that, as my bootloader is unlocked, a malicious person could do anything using fastboot. So I want to lock back my booloader.
As anyone experienced it? Does relocking wipes data? My device is rooted, would I be able to flash recovery with rommanger when relocked?
Regards.
No it won't wipe data.
Also a xda member made an app to lock and unlock the bootloader without the use of a computer. Here's the link.

[Q] Flashing clarification

After having just recently rooted my phone using CF-Auto root (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlsO5o_-CI8), I am looking to flash a new ROM and hoping to get some clarification or confirmation on the flashing method I am planning to use. I want to try and flash either a Google edition (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2341794) or Omega ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2253528).
When attempting to flash I will be following these steps:
Perform a nandroid backup,
1. Downloading the .zip file and put it onto my external memory card.
2. Booting into PhilZ CWM recovery and wiping data/cache.
3. Perform a factory reset using CWM recovery. (does this delete all my apps?)
4. Flash the .zip file using CWM.
5. Reboot phone.
Are these the correct steps to take?
I keep reading something about bootloaders and how it can brick your phone if you do not unlock it, is this true? I am unsure as to whether or not I have unlocked it.
Furthermore, can i use titanium backup or another program to not lose my apps? I really would not like to reinstall every single app after flashing a new ROM.
I am currently using the GT-I9505 locked to Virgin in Australia.

1. If You have Just Rooted it using CF Root then u need to Install Recovery First. You Can Head to the Philz Recovery Forum and download the Tar file and flash Via ODIn.
And then You Can follow the Steps mentioned.

I believe I have downloaded CWM recovery, or which ever custom recovery this is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281367
I am still quite unsure on the bootloader, should I just not worry about this? Also, is there anyway to recover apps afterwards because I do not feel like downloading all my apps again.

Backup fully an unrooted OnePlus 5

After a long research for finding a full backup method for an unrooted OnePlus 5 android, I'm now asking if anybody can help.
I have tried using ADB.
Code:
adb backup -apk -shared -all -obb -system -f "C:\backup.ab"
adb restore "C:\backup.ab"
Here I have to
But it does not restore everything. So I don't fully trust ADB.
Then I thought, what about backup the partitions to image files, and later be able to restore them via fastboot or something.
So my question is,
can you make a backup using "fastboot", to an image just like a rom with personal data.
Or if this is not possible, then can you use linux tool dd to make image backup of my Phone?.
If there is nothing left, but to root? Then I have seen a lot of tools, apps and windows utilities to make a backup.
But what do you recommend I use?
Easiest and safest would be to just do a nandroid from a custom recovery. If I am not wrong, this works also unrooted if you flash the recovery via usb.

Also any custom recovery requires you to root (SuperSU or Magisk) because as soon as you boot to the system the custom recovery will be automatically be replaced with the stock recovery. So in effect to create a nandroid backup means being unlocked, having a custom recovery and flashing a root solution. You don't need to alter the ROM any more than that though.

I have trouble backup with ADB, sometimes it hangs. And according to this link https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/general/guide-phone-backup-unlock-root-t1420351 it does not backup everything like SMS and Call Logs. And pictures can have problems.
I also have problems with ADB hangs, and does not finish.

So now I'm a little confused? Because you say I can boot into nandroid from a custom recovery.
What do I need to boot into custom recovery?
Do I need to unlock phone? Because this will wipe my phone, and would rather not.
Can I boot into custom recovery directly from image, without flash anything?
If I need to flash custom recovery, then do I need to root my phone?

I think I have the answer my own questions. But please correct me or tell me if it's the right direction.
According to this link https://aubykhan.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/android-tip-boot-into-twrp-or-cwm-recovery-without-flashing/ I can boot into custom recovery. But I need to Unlock my phone first. But the question remains, can I make nandroid backup without root, because here http://trendblog.net/android-guide-make-nandroid-backup-android-phone/ it says I need root?

Yes, you will need an unlocked phone.
To my understanding you can then flash a custom recovery via usb whereas after reboot of phone it will be reset. This allows you though to boot into custom recovery and do a quick nandroid. Again I might be wrong, I thought you do not need root for this process but maybe someone can correct me.
Ur probably just going to need to hook it up to a computer and take everything off then just spend some free time logging back into each app. The only way i know without doing this is an app called Huawei Backup. It keeps all settings and logins for each app. If you can somehow find a way to install it on a one plus device you would be okay. Try an older version or inject it somehow.
