Galaxy Note And Sprint - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Is the Galaxy Note coming to the Sprint Network? Will it be 4G LTE?

Wouldnt mess with it because lte will take forever. I left sprint after 14 years was tired of waiting for 4G. Once i saw they were starting over with LTE I said forget it.

stay away if your not already in a 4g area. for me, nothing but false hopes and promises...

LTE is a double edged sword... everyone thinks its a standard and simply having it is good.. but with 21 distinct freq bands the whole "standard" thing is massively overrated.
Sprint has favourable coverage of wimax vis the other 4G networks, but i would suspect that new phones will be targeting their lte bands..which is spotty at best right now.
TBH 4G coverage from any carrier is pretty weak and so I have no interest in a 4G device... for at least another 18-24 months...from any carrier.
If you live in one of the lucky cities and you dont travel, then its a decent choice.. but i dont, and i do.
Sprint is bound to get a phone similar to the Note at some point... but look to S2 and the SGS2E4GT storyline.. late and different. Given that it would be end this year at best its not likely to be the Note as we know it..

8 years here. Up until 18 months ago I was getting 1+Mbps down and then it started falling. Best I was getting was 250kbps and nights and weekends were down to less then 50kbps. I ended up using a Verizon PRL to get data. Never had issues with call quality or dropped calls. The last straw was when I saw the LTE maps and again Sprint stops 20 miles short. I Screwed me out of Wimax and still charged my $10 more and now they were doing it again. I bet Sprint will add another fee for LTE's higher speeds.

Will that have good 4G LTE? Should I wait for the rumored Galaxy Note? Or should I just get the Nexus 4G LTE?

Any chance the note will come to Sprint? Or the note 2?

LTE right now means:
1) ****ty Qualcomm processors (no Exynos until Intel releases XMM7060)
2) Poor battery life - LTE isn't going to be mature for another year or two, it's just like the first 2-3 years of UMTS.

...and no roaming.. ATT LTE not compatible with Verizon LTE not compatible with Sprint LTE note compatible with oh i give up i made my point....lol

I just left sprint. I'm in an area with excellent Wimax coverage. But I heard through the grapevine that with lte comes data throttling or pay to use. Same as Verizon did when they rolled out their lte network.

Ditto.
I was amazed how much clearer and higher quality calls were when I flashed a corporate Sprint PRL to roam Verizon's 3G.
Sprint used to be competitive with their 3G network when I signed up with them but since then, they've neglected investing in their infrastructure and will be supporting 4 different networks until 2015! Absolutely ridiculous!
Their plan pricing was no longer the best, either.
I switched to GSM prepaid and will never again go to CDMA or enter a carrier contract, subsidized phones are not worth their value once contract cost is taken into consideration.

Thought this was discussed before but seeing that lte was such a big thing about the GN, i'm willing to put money on it being lte. Especially since sprint will be doing their upgrade to lte, why have such a top of the line, cutting edge phone on a network that's going bye bye?

Well i hope it is LTE. However i hope it doesn't make sprint release it late when lte finally rolls out.
If it doesn't come LTE ready then its probably a sales tactic. If it doesn't get rolled out til mid 2012 (LTE) then it wouldn't surprise me ifthey didn't have it.

When did u get a nexus s?
Also i think the could maybe release it earlier if it didn't have any 4g and just 3g.
is it possible for a phone to be both LTE and WiMax? because if not, and Sprint's actually getting this thing next month, there's no way it'll be an LTE device. Sprint won't have LTE ready for the better part of a year at the earliest.
My gut feel, for the timing of it, is that it won't have any 4g. 6 months ago that would have been crazy, but it wouldn't look as bad now sitting on the shelf next to an iPhone.

Ya i forgot the 3g only option in the poll
Sammy hax the wimax antennas and they got to get rd of them. Wimax has to stay around for a year or better for the people with phones and hotspot cards for home and laptops. Unless there is only one version of the prime, I think they will get there own flavor with wimax.
Got to justify the $10 extra right?
Specs for Galaxy Nexus Prime say LTE and Hspa, no WiMax. Unless they are going to build a special one for sprint 4G will be out of the equation for awhile. Here:
http://www.google.com/nexus/#utm_campaign=us&utm_source=ha-bk&utm_medium=sem&utm_term=+nexus +prime
at first i thought no wimax but it would be stupid to put a lte radio when its going to costs sprint extra money. i am positive they have an inventory of wimax radios they need to get rid of.
It's going to have an LTE radio.
There's no way that they're going to make a special device with Wimax just for Sprint [Now that Sprint has declared Wimax dead] and there's no way that it's not going to have a 4g option [Considering being LTE/HSPA+ capable was part of the presentation]
Being as LTE is right around the corner for Sprint, it's a good selling point too.
I will eat my own head if Sprint releases an LTE phone with functioning LTE network anywhere by Spring 2012.

That's cool. Sprint never said "Spring 2012"
They said "midyear 2012"
Also, couple of replies to this:
1) If you fully understood Network Vision you would understand why it is going to be very easy for Sprint to reach it's goal of 120 million LTE covered by the end of next year.
2) And really more importantly, if you completely understood Network Vision you would realize that LTE really isn't that important.
The speeds delivered by their 3g coverage, with the roll out of Network Vision, will be more than sufficient enough to not validate wasting the significant battery LTE takes.
I can't see Sprint releasing a phone with a 4g radio that cannot be used on its network now - just does not look good from the marketing standpoint. Therefore, I think Nexus Prime Sprint will have a WiMax radio.

Wouldn't be the first time Sprint releases a phone with features that are planned for future deployment. The EVO 3D comes with their CDMA push to talk technology that's replacing iden. Wouldn't be surprising at all if the Galaxy Nexus included an LTE radio on Sprint's band. I'd really love Sprint's version to be a world phone. Hopefully they can include GSM and HSPA+.

It's highly possible that the Sprint Galaxy Nexus will include EVDO rev B with 1X Advanced. That means it's 3G speeds could reach 10 Mbps with voice and data simultaneously. That wouldn't be so bad.

Wtf happened to network vision?

Its been a year and I live in NYC and I see NO change in service. Still the same dead spots everywhere there was one.
Sprint is really messing up by taking their sweet ass time.
I read an article that the nexus won't be coming out till June/July. What? By then, the Verizon version (with LTE) will have been 7 or so months old. Almost time for that yearly upgrade.
Maybe its because they want the iPhone 4s to sell so that's why they're taking their sweet ass time, but tbh, after swearing by sprint for years (since my bbcurve 8820) I'm starting to be distracted by tmobile.

With an ETA of late 2013 for full-deployment, Network Vision is the fastest full network roll-out/replacement I've ever heard of. Remember, Sprint is betting the farm on it and they are paying a decent premium to Ericsson to build it for them. They aren't just adding Mobile Base Stations, they are completely replacing the majority of them. Currently, they have to maintain around three per site; CDMA, WiMax, iDEN, and back-haul.
The new MBSes will be a single station with perhaps the exception of back-haul, since that is dependent of the technology and geographic area.
The fact of the matter is that they are literally rebuilding their entire network and are doing it right; not half-assed like all the other carriers in the US. A lot of that new infrastructure is in-place, but they have to wait for things like microwave and fiber links to be lit-up before they can configure as well as light their new MBSS equipment up.
As for dense urban areas, there is a reason there are dead spots. Lots of buildings that absorb, block, and refractive signals. It's the largest challenge in wireless networks and it takes a lot of time/manpower to get working reliably.
And don't forget, iDEN is being phased completely out as well, so devices that utilize that 850/900MHz block of spectrum have to be made.
Think of some short-term pain for long-term gain.
As for the late 2013 ETA; I was told directly by someone at Ericsson at Sprint's WHQ (they share that huge campus in Overland Park) that completion timeframe. They also mentioned that they were going at break-neck speed in doing it. I hope that isn't sensitive information, as I think it's publicly available.
Any more complaints?

Mutiny32, thank you for the insightful post - it certainly lends optimism to those of us who decided to stick it out with Sprint. I also live in NYC and while VZW is definitely better right now for building penetration due to its lower frequency and its LTE is way faster than Sprint's 4G Still, I don't see that many serious reception issues with Sprint, although coverage _outside_ NYC and network speeds in/out could definitely be better (and did Sprint completely stop WiMax expansion? These towers can be converted to LTE once it's ready, can't they?). A few times my texts have been delayed - for over a day, which never happens with my wife's Droid 2. Even though I am on SERO, joining wifey's family plan with VZW would have cost about the same $$ for the same minutes and perks, and I never use more than 2.5 GB of data per month. Verizon simply does not have a worthy QWERTY slider phone to upgrade to (Droid 4, with its non-swappable battery, crappy screen does not make the grade and Stratosphere is not an upgrade to Epic). CM9 lent my Epic a new life, even though I am very annoyed at not being able to get my phone to autorotate and the proximity sensor to work with the rom (features work on CleanGB). Will see what slider phone options Sprint will have when LTE rolls out.

Yeah, why is it taking so long for them to rebuild EVERY radio site including replacing all the antennas all over the country? I mean come on, it only took them what, 10 years to build it the first time.
Seriously, digiblur posted a link to this blog which has great detailed info about each market's buildout. It may answer the OP's questions.
http://s4gru.com/
According to that site, NYC is a second round market, and second round markets will begin buildout between May and December 2012 if there are no issues with first round buildouts that would delay things.

I would prefer the second round myself. The crews should have plenty of experience by then.

Thank you all for all the info....I have been wondering what was happening in the short/medium term for Sprint.
YES! We are in the 1st round of deployment (SF Bay Area), and we are being handled by Samsung. Well, considering the Bay Area is home to Silicon Valley, then it would be well worth it for Sprint to have NV/LTE here as soon as possible. The city I live in is where AT&T's West coast headquarters are located at (AT&T service is awesome here with LTE speeds of over 40 Mbps), I hope Sprint improves it's service out here soon.
I was so happy when I saw Chicago was on that initial list. I was floored when it wasn't, simply as the size of Chicago you think would be a good priority considering there are slightly over 10M people in this area. Now I see it's just because it won't be 'done' until Q4 this year. But, they're already working on it, which is fantastic!
I've had an upgrade since Feb '11, but haven't ditched the Epic, still holding strong. With the next Nexus coming out in a few months, I may jump on that bad boy real quick instead of waiting out the end of the year. It's really a Nexus vs HTC One X vs SGSIII debate now.
alright, sprint is "COMPLETELY" upgrading the ENTIRE network. and it's not going to be fully complete until 2014. they have to make sure every tower and base station is talking to each other, and they have to test run range quality with data and voice. so it's impossible they are done in less than a year. YOU HAVE TO BE PATIENT. are you aware that they are going to be lowering the mhz fruequency to either 800 or 900? so that way, you get stronger signal strength and faster speeds.

Not quite accurate. 1900mhz will stay around, but Sprint's 800mhz assets, currently tied up by IDEN, will be transitioned to EVDO and LTE usage.
That's what I mean. Note: I did not say 190mhz terminated.

800 will not be for LTE at first and some sites will not get any 800. And some sites will only get 800 for voice.
The http://s4gru.com site answered all my questions about my 1x problems. Its seems that sprints been working on the towers in my town. They will be only half done now and the other half in June. Technically I live in Elgin, so I'm pretty happy about that. While Elgin is a suburb, it's still over 100,000 people. It seems like they're starting in the West burbs, and working in towards the city. I spend the majority of my time in Elgin and Schaumburg, so as soon as that Nexus comes out, assuming it has slightly upgraded specs, I'll be all over that thing with Sprint LTE

Right, but it's not actually LTE if I remember correctly.
Just saw this on the s4gru.com website associated with Network Vision:
FCC Ready to give Sprint official go ahead on SMR 800MHz wideband spectrum

Long time Epic users, if you could bail on Sprint...

I love the Epic. Love it. So much that even though I used the ET4G for a while, I went back to the Epic. The problem is that I don't love Sprint. For the 10+ years I've been a customer, I've watched the quality of their customer service and technical output decrease considerably. Living in New York City, I'm dealing with data speed slower than a dial-up modem. Sprint claims that they're over capacity in my neighborhood. For a carrier to make a claim like that in NYC is absolutely ludicrous. Nevermind that there are far more densely populated areas of the city with drastically better data speeds than I'm getting, one of the three significant mobile phone carriers should be ashamed to admit that they can't provide adequate service in New York City.
Now, let's suppose you could walk away from your Sprint contract free of charge and go to Verizon for slightly less than you're paying now. Additionally, imagine you've never used more than 2 gigs of data in a month (Sprint's data speeds make using more than 500 MB of 3G in a month impossible anyway) so the somewhat enigmatic lure of "unlimited data" means nothing to you.
Would you walk or stick it out with Sprint?
Only for Droid 4
thats a whole lot of imagining.
i have the opposite experience. 8 yeasr sprint customer here and customer service now blows the old system out of the water. i havent gotten a foreign csr in a long time. i cant stand heavy indian accent on a tech support line. my data speeds are also good. i wont mention the fact that i live in the same city as their corp headquarters though. haha.
my only complaints are the lack of tons of phone choices. att and vzw are constantly rolling out new devices. cant someone throw sprint a bone here?
that and the loss of yearly upgrades, but none of the big carriers have that, so i guess its a non issue.
i think i will stay.
The company I work for was bought 6 months ago and I just learned I get a very decent discount on verizon, enough to make it come within $5 what I'm paying now for 2 epic 4gs on sprint (even though I still get 25% off sprint from my old work). The other limitations of verizon (only having 10 'unlimited' numbers, only 2gb of data per phone) don't really affect us at all. Combined our peak data usage in a given month was just over 1gb.
So that's a long way of saying...I'm in the same boat you're describing. Only thing keeping us around now is not wanting to burn another $400 for 2 contract price phones and of course the ETF from sprint. But my contract expires in december, so if the gs3 is on verizon first I'll almost certainly switch and bring my fiance a few months later when her contract is up. Sprint's data service is really bad in many places, even though I 'get' 4g in grand rapids and columbus, where I spend most of my time (its a good thing downtown grand rapids has 4g because the 3g data is unusable in my experience).
I get <100kbps consistently... no 4g ever, and coverage is even worse one town over where I visit my family.
But I somehow go through 8gbs of data every month so I guess I am stuck with sprint for a while. I plan on getting the galaxy note/journal the day its released.

That's exactly what's been holding me up. My wife and I don't really feel like dropping $400 on new phones right now. In addition, there will be certain desirable devices hitting the market a few months down the line, and it would be preferable to hold out for those instead. I'm able to get out of my Sprint contract because of the change they made to the way they bill family plans, but according to them, that option is only available to me until the end of this billing cycle. In theory, I should be able to get out of my contract on the basis of the pathetic data speeds available here but they'll lie until they're blue in the face to try to prevent me from doing that. Apart from the potential benefits of their new network whenever that actually hits the NYC market, I don't have a compelling reason to keep giving money to Sprint.

the new devices always look great. the problem is that I'd have to run them on a Sprint network that gives me average downstream data speeds of 0.05 Mbps. What's the point? Maybe 15 months from now or so it'll be another story, but that's a long way (and a lot of months at $170/per) off.
I'm sticking it out. I'm going on 11 years with Sprint and I'm one of those folks that has never had a problem with their CS. I will admit that this is the longest I have ever sat on an upgrade due to a lack of phone options, but I understand they're undergoing changes right now, so I'll be patient. I still like- not love -my device now, and I get full bars of 4G where I live, so it could be worse.

Been with Sprint for 10 years. What's kept me with Sprint is the price/value. Fortunately we get decent 3G here but no WiMax. My future brother in law works for Verizon and I told him I'd switch in August when my contracts are up if he can get me a similar monthly bill if it's clear Sprint isn't releasing LTE here anytime soon. Verizon has had LTE here since November. I'd prefer to stick with Sprint, but watching every other carrier here turn on 4G (even freaking US Cellular) has really soured me lately.
The data restrictions/throttling on other carriers are the biggest negative for me. I've been burning >15GB/month on the regular over 3G (no 4g within 400mi). I pay for unlimited, so I'll use it (all legit usage). The 2 and 5GB plans out there are just stupid as a whole IMO. Carriers nickel and dime customers to death.
What can I say, I stream music a lot. None of that used bandwidth is from tethering or downloading huge ass files via the phone.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Don't you have roaming? Why would your speeds suck if you can roam on Verizon?
And if they still do, then why do you think switching would help?
Because I'm not roaming on Verizon, I'm always connected to Sprint. The data issue is the result of Sprint not being able to provide adequate bandwidth for their customers in this neighborhood.

Last year was a much easier decision. I had been a Sprint customer for about a decade and was dealing with the decline of Sprint 3G data to less than dial-up speed and 4G coverage that was virtually non-existent for the areas where it mattered, home and work and in between. When Verizon offered unlimited 4G LTE the decision was clear. I negotiated with Sprint retention to lower the ETF to ~$75 and jumped ship. In comparison, I get Verizon LTE coverage everywhere I go, the throughput is significantly better than broadband DSL and the latency is optimal for latency sensitive applications like VOIP. I'm even paying a little less than I was paying Sprint. Now that the service issue is out of the way I'm waiting for great phones to appear on Verizon such as Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S III, etc. Samsung Epic 4G, except for maybe the limited DRAM, is a much better phone than the majority of phones on Verizon including my HTC Thunderbolt.
For me, it's a hard choice. I get 20% off Sprint through my work and 15% through Verizon, so even the cheapest plan from Version would be about $10 extra per month, and right now I'm saving as much as I can. Another thing is I do go over 4GB a month, but it depends. I actually checked my average the other day and it was literally 3.99 GB. Sprint data around here has gradually declined since the iPhone release, making it so even streaming low quality YouTube video is hit or miss (mostly miss). Hell even Pandora takes forever at times to load the next song, and if Pandora is having problems then jesus christ. There is no 4g availability around here, and they don't give us access to the wifi at work (boo). So right now I'll likely stay with Sprint, but my contract is up in June so we'll see then.

wow, they had an offer for unlimited data? and for how long are you able to get that? I would assume that's an introductory offer and eventually you get dropped down to a capped data plan.
I've noticed Sprint 3g speeds vary wildly depending on where I'm at. In my home (small town) I'll get 400-600k down which is good enough for light usage when away from wi-fi. In the nearby city I get around 1.0 - 1.5 mbps down which is really good enough for about anything I'd want to do on my phone while out and about.
However when I visit my family in Omaha (which is a pretty good size city) I get horrendous speeds (like 50kbps) which is just unusable. If I lived in this type of coverage I would have no choice but to switch.

I'm in Omaha/Lincoln, and at my house in Omaha my coverage sucks.. But it's actually been getting better recently.. I still purchased roam control for that reason.
On the other hand, I get great speeds in Lincoln, and even 4G here on campus
I'm still debating on what I'll do when my contract is up in August. I may just wait around until a huge breakthrough in phone tech, or maybe I'll go for the SIII? I don't really want to switch carriers because my only discount is through Sprint.. Hopefully the network enhancements rock
Id choose tmo over verizon any day.
I'm not gonna bother saying why because from this point on I'm too lazy to rebuke the inevitable "but tmo...att...customer service....4g" lines

So what does everyone think about this phone not getting 4G in the UK, yet the S3 will?

not happy if that is the case! what is this based on?
After checking with Three today while ordering new phone, they confirmed that the phone is 4g enabled and will work when the network is ready. At the moment the network has been upgraded to HSPDA+ and the phone can make use of that...
Hope this is all true and not a sales ploy...

Trouble is, what frequencies will be enabled? 800, 1800 etc, etc? Will we be forced to have multiple versions of the phone which are carrier dependent like in the States?
It makes no difference to me as in the uk 4G will only be available in limited areas for a year or two and by then itll be time for the note 3. 4G would be of no use to me at all where I live in the uk.

I want to buy the note 2, but all these 4g frequencies fuss and no 100% confirmation from the carrier i use T-Mobile is holding me back.
As far as i know t-mobile will use a different frequency (ee) that note 2 does not support but again am not 100% sure.

How can people who have the phones check?
Not sure, would like to know so I can check on Thursday...
TBH, even if it doesn't have 4g I don't think i'll be too bothered as I've never thought download speeds were an issue... HD vids on youtube always downloaded without issue for example...
Faster is always better though so will be nice to have that extra bandwidth

I got the same reply when talking online to Three CS earlier tonight.
Has anyone got their's from 3 yet?
I think I might go for it tomorrow, for the £34 one.
Do 3 let you upgrade to the One Plan mid contract though, in case I decide I want tethering? lol
That would be amazing if it was 4G, or maybe if I can get a seller to tell me it does.
The Galaxy Note II (N7100) definitely does NOT handle 4G. The good news is that it does handle HSDPA+ which is in "real world" tests gives 4G a good run for its money without the price premium. EE are expected to charge around £15 a month on top of their existing 3G tariffs per month for their 4G with data caps.
Late last night, Ofcom, EE, Vodafone and O2 agreed a faster rollout of 4G in the UK with EE4G starting in the next few weeks in some cities. Vodafone and O2 will bid for new frequencies early next year and hope to be up and running by Spring 2013. EE will therefore have a lead of around 20 weeks but are expected to insist on a minimum term contract of 12 months.
I am staying with HSDPA on 3 and will see what competition does to prices next year and what real world performance and coverage is like. Others can risk their money being Guinea Pigs!
EE will be offering the 4G version of the Note II (N7105) for customers prepared to pay for an extended contract. It will be available from EE from October 15th.
I have just ordered the N7100!

Whilst this is possible it is specifically NOT permitted under their terms and conditions.
Three only permit tethering on their mobile data packages intended for laptops and myfi devices. If you try to use an "all you can eat" phone sim in a myfi device from Three, it does not work. Despite this, it is possible to tether a phone even though it is not officially allowed.
Needless to say, the data SIM route is more expensive than the "all you can eat" packages intended for unfettered phones.

Have to agree with this.
Where I live and work these days, I won't see 4G LTE for at least a couple of years, so the lack of LTE in the Note II makes no difference to me.
Coupled with the fact that I'd rather have truly unlimited 3G from Three, as opposed to what is likely to be a tiered data plan on 4G from EE, LTE just isn't a required feature for me at present. Given the current data plans from Orange and TMo, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the data limits for EE's LTE were quite low and expensive - even a 5GB data plan won't last long at LTE speeds if you're really going to use LTE as it is intended.
Also, EE's LTE at 1800MHz isn't going to have great indoor penetration when compared to the LTE at 800MHz that we will see once the spectrum is auctioned off next year, so I'd rather wait for something better.
Ordered my Note II from Three yesterday, as my contract was coming to an end. I fully expect to replace it this time next year, despite the fact I will have to pay full price as I'll only be a year into the contract, so it's not as if I will be 'stuck' for two years anyway!
Regards,
Dave

So sprint doesn't have 4G?

Well here is my dilemma, hoping I can get some feedback from you guys.
I've had a concession account with Verizon for the past 3 years. I recently had to make the switch to a consumer account and am currently on the 2GB family share with 2 lines. I don't feel comfortable with just 2GB, but I really don't want to shell out for the additional 2GB. VZW only offered to cover the difference of the additional 2GB for a year, and I'd cover the 2nd and I'm not really down for that either....which leads me to sprint.
They look to offer the best bang for my buck, even going as far as paying $100 per line to switch which is pretty nice. I almost pulled the trigger on this until the Rep explained that sprint has no 4G!?!? I was shocked by this because I was under the impression they were one of the first to have it.
So to my question. To those of you that currently have a S4 with sprint, in general, how are the speeds on their current network? Verizon's S3 is the only 4G device I've owned and I was blown away by the difference in speed when coming to the S3. Will I notice a huge slow down? Will I notice anything at all?
As always, any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks!

It varies between cities but yes sprint does have 4G, in my city its not that good but yes I see 4G a lot, best thing you could do is find some local with sprint and a 4G lte phone and tell em to let you test the internet speed, I'd say Radioshack is a good spot for that since the manager there most times carries the latest phones with him at least in my local radioshack lol

Sprint has 4G in certain markets in the form of WiMax & LTE. Obviously the S4 on Sprint is LTE. 3G speeds on Sprint are terrible (typically 1mbps or slower downstream) and LTE varies depending on the area. I will get 20+ mbps in some areas and others less than 10.
Sprint is considered by most to have the slowest network of any of the USA "big 4" carriers. Check the coverage map for your area to see what options you have. If there is no LTE in your area yet than it will be slow.

It all depends on your city, and your phone. When I had the iPhone, I rarely got 4G and mainly stayed on 3G. It wasn't awful, and it got what I needed done with quick loading times. (Facebook, twitter, etc), but I also had super weak signal with it. When I got the S4, I've been getting full bars of 4G and have not been falling back to 3G and it's FAST. Videos load up quick, everything is almost instant. I also live in KC and Sprint has had longer to rollout 4G in my area.

Well after checking out all of the plans from the big 4, I am looking at a difference of $120/yr for my setup.
The way I've come to see it is I spend much more on A LOT of other much less important things. In the grand scheme of things paying a premium is also going to get me a much more reliable and faster network, if nothing else peace of mind. Although I still find it ridiculous what consumers are charged for data.

Here is what you have to realize with the current LTE roll out...
Some areas have 4G LTE coverage but its not officially on yet... It is in a "Test Phase". It is typically on about 25%-50% of normal levels. That is for both SPEED and RANGE. If you are seeing any speeds below 10mbs then it is most likely in the test phase. Most test phase towers have a 4g range of about 3-4 miles. This is also at about 25%-50% range. Towers that are at official and running at normal operation levels are seeing over 20mbs up to 40mbs and ranges over 7-8 miles.
Here in Michigan I know of a dozen or so "test" towers and they are all operating at that speed and coverage range. I usually see anywhere from 8mb to 17 on these towers in mid day. Night time is much higher.
The few full speed towers I have been connected to have had speeds over 30mbs and ranges of much further than I expected.
This is supposedly the way its happening all across the country according to the Network Admin I've talked to in Kansas.
In my area (Memphis) sprint is excruciatingly slow. On 3g I get maybe 300k/s, on 4g I get maybe 2m/s.
Moving to San Antonio soon. If it isn't faster there in going to have to switch back to AT&T or Verizon.

This is hardly accurate. It depends on the tower, traffic in a area etc. There are different types of towers and equipment being used in areas. I'm assuming you aren't a radio technician. This is somewhat true and accurate but those speeds probably won't be unfortunately. More like 5mb-15mb down on average. 20mb down would be awesome. But it is impossible to say for sure, there is way to many variables.

I have no clue about the variability of speeds from test phase towers to full speed ones or any of that. Or the range of them or the truth to what the other guy said..
But I can tell you that I consistently get 30mbps and even higher in San Francisco on 4g. And in some of the other networks I've been have the same - if you look at the 4g speed test thread you'll see that people are getting 25-35 in some areas.
