The fastest ROM (GB or ICS) - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

If there is a topic about this, ban me, but show me.
If not, only show me.
I've tried ROCKET ROM and it's ok, but I wonder if there is another faster ROM somewhere...
I don't care if is based on GB or ICS and I don't care if your suggestions don't offer all the facilities of the phone, I just want the fastest ROM possible for Note.

I like Midnote ICS.

I'm on Kingdroid Deluxe v 7.0 and it is really quick. I like all the customizations too. It is based off Gingerbread

I'm on AlBa ROM and I hafta see, it does certainly feel and seem faster than GB on CheckROM, even though ICS ROMs are limited to 1.2GHz due to kernel.

Try Imilka CM9-v01 , thats perfect ICS or Cassie's XtraLiteRom Version X LC1 for Gingerbread base rom.

It's hard to say which is the absolute fastest but try Imilka's CM9 or ICS Stunner. Both are super quick. Personally I feel CM9 is quicker of the two, it's lighter as well. Stunner has A LOT of tweaks though! Best ICS ROMs IMO!

ICS roms are the fastest and CM9 and ICS Stunner are the best. Stunner is a slightly quicker I think but CM9 is better overall.

I've tried both CM9 and Stunner extensively, and have found stunner to be the smoothest =). Just remember to use flash fix, and enjoy euphoria!
YMMV though because many people seem to be reporting issues with 4.5, but I'm having zero issues. Love it.

Gb its checkrom. For me its been the fastest. V5.

Gb is cassys xtralite rom
Ics is neobudds stunner
Done ha ha

CM9 for sure..n if u believe in benchmarks then here are the screenshot

I find GB roms generally are less buggy and have less audio distortion. Can't comment much on speed since I have a fast phone and both run fine, but audio distortion is less apparent in gb roms.

Haha this is exactly what I was go III Ng to ask open.
Fast in benchmark or UI smoothness or App/game running speed?
Anyway I love checkrom been using all of the version since checkrom, never let down once. Too bad my ICS gas gone hot, gotta jump ship.
Tried ics stunner and teamrocket. Both are MUCH faster and smoother in every single area. Overall ics just have the slick feel that no any GB can deliver, not even close!!
didn't do benchmark though, my opinion solely based on user experience, not benchmarking .
I really love ics stunner ,very fast and stable but u lose Samsung apps and full function spen.

Tried both Darkforest and JJ's rom
Both had bugs glitches (part of the screen was cut off)
also battery life was shorter than gingerbread
switched back to gingerbread until / if ics as good
Darkforest seems good, ill try it later;D

Enjoy
I've noticed a small battery decrease as well from switching from GB. I had to underclock Darkforest to get the same amount.
Still great tho. Just a little slow.
I've only tried regular beta and Darkforest, but I did try 3 different kernels. I found the Darkforest kernel had better battery life than the ICS doomkernel, but worse than advanced stock (when they haven't been tweaked)
The difference in battery life for me between ICS and gingerbread is immense. And as you can see in the Darkforest thread, I had severe graphic errors, lockups.. I thought maybe my hardware was screwed but;
Went to jokawild with doomkernel 11 and all the glitches went away. And my battery life is 2x longer at LEAST. Hour and a half of use took me down to 60%. On ICS the same amount of time killed the battery completely. And I haven't even finished tweaking this gingerbread yet..
Also, ICS was laggy. Constant slight lag, occasional large spikes. Gingerbread when configured right is really fast. If you mostly want ICS for the way it looks and not features, get an ICS theme and stick with gingerbread. The new features, especially changes to system menus and browser, and gapps were great, but simply not worth it IMO.
As time goes on and things speed up, I'm sure it'll become more worthwhile, but not right now

ICS On Galaxy SII

I just managed to get ICS on my SII! Waited for so long and a little disapointed... There isn't that much of a difference from what I can see.
What were you expecting?
ICS is good as a secondary rom. This goes for official samsung releases as well as cm9/aosp/aokp.
Stick with gingerbread. It's still the best.

I'm not going to compare AOSP/AOKP roms with Samsung ICS. They are a joke compared to what you get in a stock samsung firmware.
Comparing samsung ics and gb... GB has less gestures and small polished features (contacts, dialer) however it offers the best browser on any phone. As a comparison, install flash player and open up youtube.com, scroll down and switch to the desktop version. Compare scrolling. zooming in. Now try to play a video using the browser. GB is super smooth never lags. Same goes with big websites that have lots of ads and flash content.
GB never force closes. It's super stable. It doesn't eat as much battery with screen on. It doesn't have the data usage info, nor the fancy task switching.
Also the stock samsung gallery is awful compared to what you get in aosp ics...
However, overall I rate it the highest for stability, functionality and great battery life. I'm sorry but ICS just doesn't cut it for me. To be honest I wish they would put out an anniversary gingerbread build with everything maxed out (like they do for the I9001 for example).
I'm not hating on ics. It's a step forward, it's just it hasn't reached the level of GB in terms of daily usage. Maybe one day.
if it wasnt for this free community android would be a mess or the manufacturers may feel obliged to make a better rom,
when you think about it samsung must use thier Android phones stock i wonder if they think its sufficient
go with hydrog3n-ICS ROM

Benchmarks: GB vs ICS vs JB

Just for the curiosity sake, I did Antutu benchmark this morning on last ICS update, (unrooted, untouched bootloader). So, completely clean ICS with few applications installed, but nothing spectacular or heavy on resources.
It would be nice if someone could do the same benchmark on stock (and as clean as possible GB) just for the comparison sake. So that we could compare some things and see how much is ICS really slowing down our phones, and is our whining about ICS "crappiness" a little bit exaggerated.
Edit: Since people started posting various non-stock benchmarks, I'm changing thread name, and erasing stock prefix in front of ROMs. Till now this is general Arc S benchmark comparison thread.

How did you manage to get this score on stock ICS (overloaded with apps)? Quite amazing result you have. Yeah, ICS seems a bit choppier in general, compared to GB... Whatever ICS phone I played with, seems a bit choppy.
Not stock ICS, but thought I would share anyways.
First AnTuTu Run
CyanogenMod 9 (CM9 Kernel)
Approximately 40 apps installed
Great score Auxilium, no doubt...
What I've learned till now from this benchmarks, is that stock ICS is not that much weaker than stock GB, without any modifications. So the only explaination of choppier ICS behaviour is that ICS is choppier by its nature, compared to GB, and that it's not that much related to SONY and their "incompentence" as we like to say quite often.
And also, ICS obviously can score quite impressive results with some modifications.

Jelly bean miui

So I have only seen a few jb versions of miui out and they were not very good. I am wondering if anyone would be interested of I was to bring one to the table? If I can get enough interest in it I can try working my magic on it. I have played around with it some already and it is not too bad. Sluggish in some areas but I think with a week or so of work it could be killer.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
If you can get it to be stable, it'd be very cool. The only bad thing about GB MIUI is that none of the themes online are for GB anymore
They still have gb themes online. They are not updating as much but they are still there. Also I know that you want jb miui and have already put you into the tally pot even before you said anything. The jelly bean I have on my phone has been rock solid so that is not an issue it just lags sometimes mostly on the lockscreen and that weird second launcher thing they added. Although I am sure I can cure most of those issues with a little work. I was using for a couple of weeks before I started working on these current projects.
I will give you a copy of what I was using if you would like it had tronits first kernel on it. So far the only 4.1.2 rom that could run it that I know of and seeder. I will update the kernel and put in crossbreeder then upload it for you.

I think Tronit just updated his kernel with SBC
Yes he updated yesterday with sbc. What I was using was his first kernel. I now have jb miui up and running and playing with tweaks to see what will give the best bang for the buck. So far it has blackdone 2.1r1 sbc and crossbreeder installed. Tried xlound/bravia2 and that was a no go also MPEngine would not work either. I am checking out build.prop mods now and then init.d scripts afterwards. I want this to run like dirty diablo but right now it is just not there. The lockscreen is the worst. The lag is still there but it is usable unlike before where you never wanted to have the screen lock. Also most of the android keyboard lag is gone so that is a plus. Then last is to try and do something about this darn battery drain. Like most jb roms it sucks the juice like a top fuel dragster.
Keep your eye out there just may be a new jb 4.2.1 MIUI coming to a server near you.

[guide] top 3 xperia x8 roms

Hello guys,
I realize that i am not a recognized developer or anything like that but i just wanted to share with you guys my opinion on the top xperia x8 roms
NOTE: ALL of these roms are compatible with nAa-14 kernel, so yes you guessed it, they are all android 2.3.7. Lets just admit it ICS and JB roms are great at the beginning but become incredibly laggy as you use them for longer.
If you have the kernel, fantastic, if you dont, here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415012
SO HERE WE GO TOP 3
NO. 3 MiniCM7 2.2.2
XDA link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362585
PROS: this rom is just brilliant. It is completely fast and stable. It is rigged with android 2.3.7. Great for gaming. Best avarage gingerbread rom. Comes with cyanogenmod settings. Working radio.basically working everything. Good battery life
CONS: some may say that android 2.3.7 is outdated. Annoying installation: gapps not included, separate download

NO 2. IXPERIA 8
XDA link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2457598
PROS: this rom is very stylish. Looks a lot like the iphone IOS7. Almost everything working. Great performance. Great battery life. Great for those who love iPhones but purchased an android instead.
CONS: the radio is working (I think) , if you know how to use it, (i dont). Some may not like this rome as there is no app drawer, just like the iphone. Some may say that android 2.3.7 is outdated.
MY OWN SCREEN SHOTS:
NO 1. JELLYBREAD V4.5
XDA link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2421129
INTRO & PROS: have you ever wanted a rom on your x8 which just satisfies all your movile needs. This rom is absolute perfection. With a fully functional radio, high speed graphics, great for 2D, 3D and HD games. All features on this rom are fully functional.it never lags, I MEAN NEVER. I use this as my own daily rom more than the other two. HAVE YOU ALWAYS WNTED TO USE JELLY BEEN ON YOUR X8 BUT FOUND ROMS SUCH AS MINICM10 TOO LAGGY? Well this my friend is the rom for you. It combines the conplete Jellybean interface but using android version 2.3.7 (Gingerbread). This rom is very smooth. One sentence to describe this rom : holy sh*t, i found just what i was looking for.
CONS: Some may say that android 2.3.7 is outdated. But other than i cannot think of anything else
MY OWN SCREENSHOTS:
Now to wrap things up. If you have any more suggestions or roms for me to try out and review here , pm me or just comment bellow.
THANK YOU FOR READING THIS THREAD. I you agree with my opinions or just likd what you read, dont forget to hit that thanks button

The only thing of prime hd is its a little bit older....

Where is gdx? Also, what is/are the qualities needed for a good rom? Performance? App compatibility? Appearance? Features? what about kernels? there are more kernels than just naa's. What about roms for people with locked bootloaders? I'd say there is NO BEST ROM. Period. But if you're going to make a list anyway, you need to make it clear where you based your choices.
For example:
no gb/ics/jb rom can match stock or froyo roms when it comes to performance. Yes, froyo is outdated, but isn't gb as well? And more often than not, apps that work on gb work on froyo too.
no gb/froyo rom can match jb roms for app compatibility. Yes, they (specially froyo) outclass jb/ics roms when it comes to performance, but is performance the only basis?
Gb roms are somewhat in the middle, and does not really excel at anything compared to roms on other android versions.
If i had to rate it, i'd have
1. Minicm7 2.2.2 - naa 14
2. Gdx - alfs
3. Froyobread/froyopro
A cm10-based rom would have to be in the top 5 purely for app compatibility, but the list would be dominated by cm7 and froyo roms.
Prime hd is older, but still better than something newer ROMS, like nexus optimus, ixperia x8 etć
sorry OP, but you ranking is incompatible with the truth. You forget for old better projećts.
Hey guys, these are just my opinions of what the top 3 are (as i said at the top of the thread). Opinions cannot be false. Compare gdx to minicm7. What is the difference? Actually i found that gdx has a lot of missing features. FROYO has the same performance as gingerbread, and gb is more updated, so why bother with froyo. As i said in the thread, ics and jb have slow performance and that is why they are not in top 3. They probably would come in the top 10. For people who havent unlocked bootloader, they should look for another thread because i did say that they are all naa-14.
Guys, please re-read the forum rules again... "Best ROM/kernel/mod/.." threads are not allowed on xda
--> Thread closed
Thanks for your understanding
