Jelly bean miui - EVO 4G General

So I have only seen a few jb versions of miui out and they were not very good. I am wondering if anyone would be interested of I was to bring one to the table? If I can get enough interest in it I can try working my magic on it. I have played around with it some already and it is not too bad. Sluggish in some areas but I think with a week or so of work it could be killer.

If you can get it to be stable, it'd be very cool. The only bad thing about GB MIUI is that none of the themes online are for GB anymore

They still have gb themes online. They are not updating as much but they are still there. Also I know that you want jb miui and have already put you into the tally pot even before you said anything. The jelly bean I have on my phone has been rock solid so that is not an issue it just lags sometimes mostly on the lockscreen and that weird second launcher thing they added. Although I am sure I can cure most of those issues with a little work. I was using for a couple of weeks before I started working on these current projects.
I will give you a copy of what I was using if you would like it had tronits first kernel on it. So far the only 4.1.2 rom that could run it that I know of and seeder. I will update the kernel and put in crossbreeder then upload it for you.

I think Tronit just updated his kernel with SBC

Yes he updated yesterday with sbc. What I was using was his first kernel. I now have jb miui up and running and playing with tweaks to see what will give the best bang for the buck. So far it has blackdone 2.1r1 sbc and crossbreeder installed. Tried xlound/bravia2 and that was a no go also MPEngine would not work either. I am checking out build.prop mods now and then init.d scripts afterwards. I want this to run like dirty diablo but right now it is just not there. The lockscreen is the worst. The lag is still there but it is usable unlike before where you never wanted to have the screen lock. Also most of the android keyboard lag is gone so that is a plus. Then last is to try and do something about this darn battery drain. Like most jb roms it sucks the juice like a top fuel dragster.
Keep your eye out there just may be a new jb 4.2.1 MIUI coming to a server near you.

Yeah, I remember that.

I remove their launcher and use an old vtl launcher that come with the first custom ROM for my zio. The battery life is on par with other jb ROMs
Edit: I will charge this fully and give you the stats. Now that I am not flashing 15-20 times a day.

Experiences with MIUI

I thought that I would give MIUI a go since I have read great things about it. I have been using CM for a very long time now, so I wasn't expecting to be blown away.
Overall I am pretty impressed with a few caveats. The interface is very nice and I especially like how the notifications drop out of the bar up top, like when you get a text message. I don't need to use handcent anymore to say the least. The built in theme manager is cool and overall the think the menus are easier to use then most roms.
Anyways, the main issue is speed and battery. I read great things about speed but I just don't see it. The homescreen lags, apps are slow to open, and things always seem to lock up on me. I didn't restore from titanium backup, I started fresh. I'm running Savaged Zen 2.2 as my kernel, but the speed seems sluggish no matter the kernel.
The battery life isn't as great as it was on CM7 either. I can barely.make it through a day on MIUI.
Any tips for improving performance before I leap back to CM?
I would stay with Miui for a couple of days and I guarantee you that the battery life will get better, also I would try using tiamat, or godmode kernel they are great.

Download kernel.
Put into root directory of sd card.
Boot into recovery
Nand backup (because you never know)
Wipe cache and dalvik cache
Flash kernel
Reboot
Evo HW 003
MIUI 1.5.27 with Tiamat 4.0.3 sbc
Cut Corners theme
Miui is awesome but the lag just kills me. I've tried every kernel out there and nothing changed lol.

Just flashed miui last night, wanted to see what it was all about. Took me a lil bit to get everything set up but now it's running smooth for me. Lovin it except battery life is killing me, unplugged it just 15 min ago and it dropped 30 percent. Ill probably run this for a week or two then nand back over to synergy or kingdom. Overall though I love the menus of this rom and all the different settings.
Battery dropped another 8 percent in the time it took me to type this.

Try using setcpu with the tiamat 4.0.5 kernel. Maybe your cpu is constantly pegged at its highest frequency so its killing the battery. With set CPU installed I had my Max at 1113 and min at 384 running smartass; I easily got 24 hours with moderate usage. Also download spareparts from the market and make sure your end button has the phone set to sleep.
Here's the free setcpu for xda users.

I've used many kernals (mostly CM and MIUI) as they tend to have the least amount of clutter.
I've been very happy with MIUI (been on it for over 5 months) when I used to flash a new rom almost daily.
I've found MIUI (more than any other rom) has "finiky" issues with installs.
If you've not done it, I'd recommend doing a complete wipe using Caulkin Format All and Format Temp, fresh install of miui (reboot 3 times after you install it, helps get rid of some fo the chinese crap), flash a kernal of your choice (i've been rocking tiamit 4.0.5 sbc) and then configure your phone and set it all up.
I love the fact that you can have folders on your home screen (that show the icons of the content) however, it doesnt hide your status bar (I think it's stupid to have the clock show twice).
I use launcher pro and folder organizer ( available on market) and love it.
I have a very minimalistic layout with everything grouped neatly.
if you've not used MIUI, try it! Stiff is amazing!

Everything seems to work just fine for me with the latest update. I haven't tried Navigation, but my GPS locks almost instantly, so I suppose it would work just fine. It seems like GPS is the biggest problem.
I still have the bug where the automatic brightness doesn't work correctly. I have just set the brightness somewhere and forgot about it. It seems to work correctly for others though. Guess it might have something to do with the kernel though.

Another easy way is to use Kernel Manager from the Market. He has all the most popular kernels listed there. It is a breeze.
try tiamat kernel 3.3.7 which seems to work the best for most people or try the latest one which is 4.0.5. I'm using the latest one with vipermod which is a tool to lower voltages and it's great.

Enjoy
I've noticed a small battery decrease as well from switching from GB. I had to underclock Darkforest to get the same amount.
Still great tho. Just a little slow.
I've only tried regular beta and Darkforest, but I did try 3 different kernels. I found the Darkforest kernel had better battery life than the ICS doomkernel, but worse than advanced stock (when they haven't been tweaked)
The difference in battery life for me between ICS and gingerbread is immense. And as you can see in the Darkforest thread, I had severe graphic errors, lockups.. I thought maybe my hardware was screwed but;
Went to jokawild with doomkernel 11 and all the glitches went away. And my battery life is 2x longer at LEAST. Hour and a half of use took me down to 60%. On ICS the same amount of time killed the battery completely. And I haven't even finished tweaking this gingerbread yet..
Also, ICS was laggy. Constant slight lag, occasional large spikes. Gingerbread when configured right is really fast. If you mostly want ICS for the way it looks and not features, get an ICS theme and stick with gingerbread. The new features, especially changes to system menus and browser, and gapps were great, but simply not worth it IMO.
As time goes on and things speed up, I'm sure it'll become more worthwhile, but not right now

[venting] MIUI for Vibrant

I am a little saddened. I just learned that MIUI is no longer supporting the Vibrant. Of course we have some ports like WeUI but its not coming from MIUI themselves anymore See I have this bad habbit of needing to bounce around ROMS (can anyone relate or am i just weird?) and now I have learned that me first love is no longer available for me to bounce to? This is tragic. I suppose I cannot Blame MIUI because this is a legacy device, but the issue is I still don't have anything newer I want the GS3 but it costs a pretty penny. Anyways, all I wanted to do was vent and that is what I just did. Thanks for listening.
Miui (GB) was a great rom. Ran pretty much every version from start to end... A total of six months or so... Here's a link to my Miui guide, since I figured it might interest an avid Miui lover as yourself... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307637

The GPS, well thats a hardware problem for most, so I can't say I know a perm. fix for it.
The 720 video recording is dependent on your Kernel. Devil kernel has this fixed, and if you flash SubZero, you'll get a add-on flashable fix that fixes this.
Pretty much everything works right now.
Just go with CM. Huge team supporting you and much better software.
Well I am on CM9 and 720 works with glitch kernel and my GPS works if I turn it on and reboot and then I get a good lock. Does this work on the MIUI you use ?

... Or like xriderx66 mentioned above, he (or anyone interested) could try Jrongi's Miui v4 port. It can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552241. That's always a hit and miss.
Some peoples GPS works, some doesn't.
I, personally, do not trust my phones GPS after it almost got me into a car accident once, So i went and bought a good GPS.
Just nandroid backup your CM9, and then try out MIUI. Try it for a day or two, (it takes a while to settle in) and test out GPS for yourself, and see if you want to go back to CM9. Easy as that. I move between MIUI, TouchwizICS, and AOKP throughout the day using nandroids
Thanks guys! I'll try it!

Cyanogenmod vs Modified Stock FW - which do you use?

Hey everyone,
I didn't want to be disrespectful and post in a developers thread specific to a custom firmware, nor CM, so I wanted to start this thread to get some input. There are a lot of great roms out, ARHD among others, which are modifications of the default stock Samsung firmware.
There is also the possibility to run the latest version of Android in stock AOSP by using Cyanogenmod 10.1.
Historically I have always used CM10.1 or AOKP on my devices as I switch frequently, and they have become the "brands" I know, and I like how it is not bloated. However, on buying my Note I thought it might be worth checking out stock based firmwares, especially for the IR blaster which doesn't work in CM10.1.
Has anyone here alternated between them? What made you switch to one or the other? I'm curious to get some input from others on why they made the decision they did specifically for this device.
Thanks!
EDIT: It seems most of the note features work fine in CM10.1 as well - are there any other things I am missing out on if I go CM10.1, other than the IR Blaster? I'm sure it is just a novelty that will get old quick, but still. Given I haven't used stock extensively I am not sure if I am missing out on anything else.
There are plenty of threads like this around.. I prefer stock because of the IR blast and mulit window feature.. also stock is louder with the noozxoide mod.. The reasons for CM10 is More customization, its faster than stock, Themes, and its 4.2...
Thanks - if you have links to the others I would like to give them a read, but I couldn't find any direct comparisons on XDA, especially for this tablet. The most I found was a "what firmware do you use" for the SGS2.
Im not about to look for them but here is 1...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2226379
Im not sure if cyanogenmod support the small apps ( dual or cascade ) . Im using custom stock fimware on my sgn10.1 such as Android Revolution HD, to fully use the advantage of multitasking.
But for my old handphone, I prefer cyanogenmod. You know why.
I would stick with stock. I think the cm team does agreat job but when it comes to my note 10.1 they lack ,there is something very buggy about them when it comes to 2d and 3d rendering this is the one thing I have noticed that are not based off stock roms. Things like sketch book video playback and gaming seem to fluctuate in fps but try it out and see for your self, other then that cm is a great

same, rooted stock for me. CM10 is nice, but the lack of multi window is the killer for me. For me, modified roms dont have anything special to make me want to switch to them.

This is what makes the Note 10.1 so special... Even the ICS rom it came with out of the box was close to what I wanted and needed. People only started complaining when others were getting JB and they weren't.
Add root access Samsung and it would be (almost) perfect - there's always something you want or need that won't be in the stock rom.
So saying, I'm still gonna play around with custom roms too... Never being satisfied and chasing perfection is part of being human, that's why XDA was created....
Stock is the best... !

I am quite pleased with it once I ran the compatibility pack and battery mod (%). It runs quite well and I have no complaints, other than a rather bulky notification pull-up bar. Performance is pretty good. As another poster indicated, though, there is a slight delay when switching between apps using the pop-up menu. Battery life seems a bit better after a few days usage too.

I own many different tabblets, on this one its perfect out of the box, no wifi, no sod, no market or any other weird problems. when you do get one that runs fine then your battery drains fast. Always a trade off, so I go with stock and no root. Seems root is causing problems and now no root and no problems.

well, i'd rather use the stock rom than the CM, i have tried the CM10.1 but you know, the Multi Windows and hand writing and the IR blaster had been missed, so, after all, i have to go back to stock rom, ít' simply, a bit slower but, well, it come with full features

-Apple for antenne problem.
-Catterpiller for dozers.

According to their website, they only support 3 devices right now. You can port it yourself with this if you'd like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1908008
I'm not sure if the dev has plans to support more devices or not.
Downloading,
Gapps required?

See their website, they have the Gapps download linked on there as well. Just flashed the ROM & Gapps, everything seems pretty nice. It is quite fast, but I'd like to give it some time before anything. I like the weather widget (my favorite looking one, same as on Captivating) as well as the launcher. It's a pretty smooth UI too, in case choppiness bugs anyone.
Any easy way to change the DPI?
RE: gamerzrom 4.2.2
Thanks for a new ROM to try! This was also on my to-port list. But I've been getting lazy.

Worked like a charm, thank you! Changed DPI to 182, still running great. (Used to SlimRom DPI)
Thank you dear friends. But I'm really shocked because of low interest from captivate community.

It's not so much low interest, it's more of the following:
- New thread, been less than 24hrs and a lot of us work .
- As you can see, there are quite a few ROMs for our cappy's, and some people don't want to try out newer ones until they read reports from other users
Give it a few days, I know there's a few other people who will try it out besides me . So far, no complaints. I would love for you to include a DPI manager with the ROM, but using textdroider DPI from the market works just fine.
Oh and inverted gapps would be cool, as well as a "dark" theme much like SlimBean.
But overall experience so far: 10/10, running flawlessly right now at 182 DPI as the only change.
RE: gamerzrom 4.2.2
If anyone is wondering, the Gapps must be flashed (yes I know it says in OP ) to introduce full functionality to the capacitive buttons and lock screen. I run without the Google apps when I can, mostly using this phone as media/game/alarm-clock device. My first boot and subsequent reboots without the Gapps package were buggy. Running fine since the Gapps flash. I used ROM Toolbox to change the DPI through build.prop. Will report back with more results soon as I can.
Super fast rom thank you so much...is there any way to increase loudspeaker volume? My cappy gives best sound on stock gb 2.3.5
2- is there a possibility to have pause and resume function in video recording like in stock gb 2.3.5?
Thanks again.
this is a good rom and one of the few which are lagless and delivers a good experience :good:
all the games work fine and 720p videos also play without lag.
so overall it is a good rom.
keep up the good work :good::good::good:
