I have a a500 running an ICS rom. I want to revert back to stock and not have root access anymore. How can I go about doing this. If anyone can help please let me know.
GOOGLE STOCK UPDATE.ZIP ROM for acer iconia a500
ethere are two types of these around.. ONE WILL FLASH WITH CWM. The other must be flashed with the stock recovery.
cwm well your on custom rom so you know how to do this..
stock recovery. YOU CAN USE acer recovery installer to install the STOCK RECOVERY BACK onto your tablet. (read about boot -loader version you have )there could be a issue if you have the patched boot ics loader.
once you are back to stcok recovery put the stock update .zip on root of sd card( not in a folder) power off device .. Hold vol up button down. and power button it will boot into recovery and start flashing..
There are several threads explaining all of this in great detail. even some with d/load links to the rom files..
GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND. THE ABOVE IS REFERENCE ONLY AND THERE Could be easier ways.
GOOD LUCK.

I have timmydeans original zip, which will flash a full stock hc 3.2 Gen 1 rom/recovery
It comes with full instructions and an excellent guide from christos too
You do not need an sdcard for this method altho' u will need working ADB
If u want it let me know and I'll upload it somewhere for you

IF you are on the HC bootloader then you'll be ok on this
Just so you know:
THIS WILL WIPE ALL YOUR DATA, so backup any important files/photos etc...
You need your CPUID if you have a CWM backup then you'll find it in there
Use christos Guide as its a bit more detailed, you'll only need to follow along until step 24 - the rest of the steps entail getting root and installing CWM
Once the flash is done you will see in white letters PASS and underneath that a small red message "Secure boot: image LNX checksum fail!" this is not an error, just keep following the instructions.
If you're on the ICS Bootloader you are still able to use this, but the method is a lot different to the one above - let me know if you need the instructions
Acer Recovery Installer will tell you what version bootloader you have

hi darvis, sorry, thought you were OP - you're not still trying to unbrick are you???
You can download the stock ROM from the developer’s thread here.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422504
To flash the ROM, you can follow these simple steps given below:
Download the ROM from the link posted above and transfer it to your External SD card
Power off your device and boot into recovery mode (Hold Volume Down & Power button together, and release both when you see text at the top of the screen)
Perform a full backup of your existing ROM as a precautionary measure
Perform a full wipe (Wipe Data, Wipe Cache partition & Wipe Dalvik Cache in Advanced Options)
Install zip from SD card/Choose zip from SD card ( here, select the zip file you copied to your sd card in Step 1)
Once the installation is complete, reboot.
Thats it!! Your’e done, and should now be running Stock Honeycomb version 3.2.1 with root.

you've been having some troubs titan - are u stuck in apxmode still or what?
if you're on the patched bl can u boot into fastboot (pwr/vol up)?
do u have another pc you can try this on?
try running a500 manager and see if it recognises that yr tab is in apx mode (pwr lite on and black screen) the boot/recovery drivers must load b4 you can get into bootloader download mode/a500 apx mode displayed on yr tab screen - check device manager.....usb controllers...if they are there then uninstall them, reboot tab and pc. Use a different usb port to connect yr cable and fingers crossed the drivers will install and you can carry on from there...what can happen sometimes with a failed nvflash/euu is the drivers get screwed up and MUST be reinstalled again before any flash will take place
One other thing...don't panic....i've struck this a couple of times where nothing seems to work, even my old faithfull timmydeans v4 sometimes fails to get me out of apx mode, but uninstalling all acer and google drivers, disconnect the cable and clean boot seems to work...in the end!!! oh another tip don't have your tab connected to the pc while booting up - clean boot all round, then connect yr cable and wait for the drivers to install.
once you're up n running again, full wipe and fully format EVERYTHING do it 3 times at least and even after youve flashed yr rom on there, fastboot is the easiest way to do this and also the most riskiest if you accidentally give it the wrong command so be meticulous here - if u brick it with fastboot - well, i don't know if theres any way back after that
the instructions i spoke of earlier are all in jazzyjames rollback thread

(You will have to decrypt packge to extract update.zip from them)
2. Wipe all with recovery
3. Install all packages in this order. (don't wipe between installs)
I may be able to provide a full dump this week-end if nobody did it.
Edit : Flashable (full) update : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25050248&postcount=38
Thanks Vache!
Thanks, I'll try to take the time to flash all this...
This implies that those of us who are on 4.066.24 need only force up to 4.066.29 and from there to the final version? It also implies that the software is out there for updating to the "real world" instead of just being leaks. Is this your understanding as well?

Sweet! Will have to find a way to do this.
Thanks vache for the leak! Glad to see Acer has been working on ics for us a501 users.
Lets hope I get the 4g speeds.
Sent from my A501 using Tapatalk 2
Install OK.
Android 4.0.3
Acer_AV041_A501_0.001.00_WW_GEN1
3G works, SMS works.
This build number indicate it's a very early build but it works great, seems on par with the latest A500 leak.
Glad to see that Acer is finally working an our A501 !
installed all 4 OK after reboot it updates EBT and reboots again wiping out boot loader and recovery image.
Shows
Android Version 4.0.3
Baseband: Cust.R3C01 Config:R3S/3 Conf:R3C01 Protocol:R3B01 App:R3C01
Kernel: 2.6.39.4+
Image Version: Acer_AV041_A501_RV26RB01_WW_GEN1
Build Number: Acer_AV041_A501_0.001.00_WW_GEN1
3g initially did not work. I had to delete and recreate my APN for data to work.
Thanks Vache!
Now, I hope all of you are copying down your UID numbers before running the updates.
Will make things a whole lot easier if you need to roll back
What I also found is that if you try to go into recovery (vol down) it restores you back to Stock 3.2 HC Beware!
Also make sure you make a backup of all your stuff on internal SD card. the process will wipe it!!!!!
Thank you! Good)
There also apears to be something fishy with the update as well with the bootloader.
If you try to flash the custom bootloader with the thor recovery img each time it boots it appears to wipe the recovery image out and it wont go into recovery anymore after the first reboot and has to be flashed again? (shows dead android on its back with door open with red triangle)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594873
Not sure whats happening there however it does come up in RED after the PASS shows.
Secure Boot: Image LNX checksum fail.
Is there some funnyness locking happening with this update?
What am I doing wrong?
Update: I went back to back up of my prior ROM "DEV][AOSP] ICS sources and build instruction for A501" and it doesn't wipe out the recovery image. Is this because the boot-loader is specific to this ROM as it is for 4.0.4? Any ideas?

You have to root and remove /system/recovery-from-boot.p or it will reflash the recovery at every boot (assuming it's the same as the A500)

Could anybody tell me if my ICS Root tool works with this leak? I don't have access to an A501 and I have no idea what version of the kernel this is running etc.
Thanks!
blackthund3r : ICS ROOT 5.1 works on this version. I chose to run it for the latest A500 leak and everything went just fine.
Mounting /system works too.
I tried wifi no work. Reflashing again :|

5. wifi power on but no visible all wifi routers....

OK it should work the way you did. One thing you can try is to install CWM, use it to wipe everything (factory, data, dalvik) and install from there. I know it can be done, I tested this.
Hope it will work for you too.

Damn sorry it doesn't work for you
Have you flashed 3.x using nvflash ? it usually does a good job of reseting everything. You can try this one : http://vache-android.com/v1/index.php?site=files&file=99
Got ICS, OTA (download) installed that no problem, downloaded the acer usb drivers and used ICS Root (blackthund3r). Now i want to install LightSpeed 4.4 (i know theres a newer version) I renamed it update.zip and did the power button + V- button but it says invalid image.
Now im a bit confused cause all this android stuff is new to me, I have the acer recovery installed but im not sure what to do with it. Tried renaming it to recovery.img it says it is flashing but nothing happens.
Kinda lost at what to do or how to get this rom working.... if someone could point me in the right direction it would be sweet

Yep. That was pretty n00b of ya (that little trick only works on signed official roms, and even then, only ify-ify)
Check this thread. It has the tools you need.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425
You can skip the part about installing an ICS rom and rooting. You already did that. You need to do steps 1, 2, (partial 4) 5 or 6 basically.
Note after you rooted. Look at step 4 and delete the required file like it says, before going to steps 5 or 6. You have an option on which package to use. Personally, I like the exe package. But your choice.
This installs patched b-loader and CWM recovery so you can flash ICS only Roms.
Easy
As you've Acer Recovery why the difficult way ? Just choose "Download / Install Roms, tick Lightspeed 4.4 in the left column, hit download and then install.
(i've version 2.74)
Fast, easy and no problems. I flashed Flexreaper 14 (now replaced by Flexreaper ICS RF1) and i can recommend it, the Rom and the way of flashing it.

Acer recovery is fine if it'll install the patched Bootloader.
However, it doesn't make a user get his UID number, which is essential in case something happens in the future. Without your UID, you're basically toasted Or you're in for the long haul in figuring out how to unbrick a tab.

You can't run that update.zip like you did. You got the error message.
Can you still boot into the 500 Rom? If so, you need to install a CWM Recovery before you can flash custom Roms. Look at the link below for instructions for CWM installation.
If you can't boot into your System, then you will need to do everything again.
You should still have your UID number when you tried to NVFlash the ver3 bootloader (I hope you wrote that number down)
You need to probably re-install the ver3 bootloader again as your attempt to install an update.zip messed things up. You just can't do it that way. So go here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1622425
Only this time, follow the instructions. You need to install CWM recovery. This is how to flash Roms, not putting update.zips on the SD card. And BTW, you should delete that update.zip from Your EXT SD Card. It will cause problems.
Also note, in those instructions, if you installed the FULL 500 ROM, you must delete a certain boot-p file before you install CWM Recovery. Or else it will delete it when you reboot the tab. Again, read the instructions.
The above steps install a 500 rom. The 500 DOES NOT have 3g like a 501. This is why you had no 3g. You have to install a 501 ICS Rom after, through CWM Recovery, and, currently, I have the only ICS Rom for the 501. And... it's a Beta release from Acer. But it works ok mostly.
Read the instructions, and understand exactly what you are doing. Also remember, with ver3 ICS Bootloader, YOU CANNOT INSTALL HC BASED ROMS without going back to an HC based bootloader. ICS Roms only. (unless you want to go back to stock).

Hello everyone.
I hope you can help me.
I had an A500 bricked spontaneously (I was checking Twitter, the screen frozen, I turned off the tablet and when I turned it on again, it stucked on Acer logo) so I used the guide to recover recovery (this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751978, because I rooted my tablet but I didn't install recovery).
Everything was ok, I flashed the V7-Thor v1.7.3 but when I tried to install stock ROM of ICS (wipe data and cache), the tablet got "re-bricked" and only enter in APX mode.
Then I reflashed and installed V8-Thor_1.7.3_recovery and I tried to install Acer_AV041_A500_1.054.00_WW_GEN1-DEODEXED-FULLROOT through update.zip (turned on the tablet in recovery --> Install from zip file --> Install zip file from SD card --> update.zip, then it said "Installed" and I rebooted the tablet, but it stuck on "Booting primary kernel image"...
What I'm missing or doing wrong? :/
What should I do to run ICS in my tablet again?
I'm not familiarized with the ROMs, Recoverys or flash... sorry if my question is stupid or something, but before this I never moved anything to my tablet (except for root it).
And sorry too for my bad English.

I think where you went wrong was choosing "install zip file from sdcard >update.zip"
Go back into recovery again > install from zip file > Choose zip from SD card (
if the file is on your micro sd card)
You should see a list of all your files and choose your rom file:
Acer_AV041_A500_1.054.00_WW_GEN1-DEODEXED-FULLROOT.zip
Once its done, Stay in recovery and go to: Wipe Menu and do all the wipes there
Data -cache and dalvi-cache then reboot
Once you're all set up and before you reboot again, make sure there is not an "update.zip" on your sdcard - if you boot to recovery it may flash automatically and you will end up "stuck" again
good luck

Thanks! I did it and it worked, but after the reboot the tablet only shows the animated android logo... what's the problem? The ROM?
When I did the "Wipe data" it said "Formatting data" and after "Skipping erase of /data/media". I checked with the "Mount and Storage" menu in recovery and seems like my data before the brick's still in the internal storage of the tablet... is that normal?
EDIT: what version of cwm to have now? If its not 1.7.3 then go ahead and reflash the v8

Yes it is - keeps your data intact but 'resets' the rom to like it is when you first flash, there is an option to wipe data/media if you wish to - theres a toggle to enable it but on every boot to recovery it will be disabled again...
You can try another flash of the rom itself otherwise reflash the v8 bootloader.
Do you have access to "fastboot mode" power vol down - just wondering

And I see the option "Fastboot mode" when I turn on the tablet holding Vol +.
About your question I don't know how to answer, I flashed V8-Thor_1.7.3_recovery... is that a CWM?
In the top it says CWM Recovery v5.5.0.x(thor2002ro/digetx rev 1.7.3) Iconia A50x...

1) Official Acer EUU or OTA roms
2) Official Stock roms which are Custom - pre-rooted and able to flash CWM etc -
If you flash one of the Acer EUU or OTA roms you will lose CWM and Root
To be honest - with your tab "spontaneously" booting and being stuck on the acer logo and the issues that have followed - its sounding more and more like a faulty chip - this is something that only acer can fix...I could be wrong about this and I hope I am...but something is just not feeling right...
- you still have cwm and access to fastboot - thats a bonus - maybe do a complete format thru CWM of data/media, system (and flexrom if its there) then try to flash a rom again - if it still won't flash AND if you're not stuck in apx mode then I think you'd be best to download an official update.zip - from Blackthund3rs thread here this one -
Acer_AV041_1.054.00_WW_GEN1:
Once you've d/l'ed it...try opening it if you can't then it will need decrypting the instructions for this are in the OP..
Once you have extracted the "update.zip" and have it on your sdcard - flash via CWM
good luck

EDIT: what version of cwm to have now? If its not 1.7.3 then go ahead and reflash the v8
Yes it is - keeps your data intact but 'resets' the rom to like it is when you first flash, there is an option to wipe data/media if you wish to - theres a toggle to enable it but on every boot to recovery it will be disabled again...
You can try another flash of the rom itself otherwise reflash the v8 bootloader.
Do you have access to "fastboot mode" power vol down - just wondering

What do you mean "If if its not 1.7.3"? Are there problems with flashing the bootloader with 1.7.3?
no, no, not at all, i meant if he didnt have that version to reflash v8 to get it
oops clicked wrong button
he said he flashed stock rom and ended up with dead android = stock recovery
A500 V8 booting primary kernel image

Hello everyone!
I have a similar issue whith my a500. but i can restore the backup i did of my honeycomb sistem in cwm (i have acess)
aftter making the backup i have flashed V8-Thor_1.7.3_recovery.a500apx in apxflashtool in order to get ics boot loader and install ICS roms.
so far so good after the flash i had already a ICS rom in my sd card redy to flash so imediatly after V8 flash entered cwm and did clean format and wipe all. Next installed the rom (aroma instalation) no problems what so ever. After instalation is finished reboted and now im stuck on skilax v8 bootloader boting primary kernel image
i tried the folowing
- chage kernel multiboot fix partitions redo clean format etc etc etc (ALL THE STEPS)
-many other ics jellybean rooms (all of the install but dont boot)
- honey comb rooms install and BOOT normaly.
at this point thought maybe it was a bad V8 flash and decided to reflash the V8-Thor_1.7.3_recovery.a500apx
Now the flash tool can get pass uploading image phase.
i have correct sbk and cpuuid since i had to recover last week from boot verified failed error and use the flash tool whith correct sbk to recover the tablet with sucess.
So basicly im stuck wit
h my honeycomb rom backup or other HC roms
any news on this subject?

Yes just one question what is - " chage kernel multiboot "???? Sounds dodgy
You can boot to fastboot mode then do an erase of data and cache, see if that helps for a start....
Do you stil have recovery and can you still restore your HC backup?
I have seen a post or two where tabs can only boot HC Roms and no ICS
It "maybe" the dreaded hardware fault - you might be best to d/l the babsector.rar and run that - it will give you a proper error if theres something wrong - can get it from the root guide in my sig. Give me a minute or two and I'll post some steps in using it
---------- Post added at 09:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:53 AM ----------
How to use babsector.rar
Download and extract the babsector.rar to a folder on your PC
Turn your tab off and put it in apx mode manually. Press and hold reset button, hold power for 3 secs after the light comes on and release it, after another second release the reset button. Your screen is black and the power light is on.
Connect your tab to your PC
Navigate to the babsector folder and click on 501 A.bat, when its done
Reboot into recovery
Go to Mounts and Storage and Format System twice and Power Off
Go back into apx mode and run 501 B.bat
Reboot into recovery and do the wipes and flash your rom
Reboot
Hey all, I just did something stupid and well long story short I can't downgrade/upgrade or get stock recovery.
I'm running 3.2.1, No root or anything. Some reason I don't have the stock recovery so flashing update.zip is impossible. I was able to get the v9 bootloader on but thats it (I know its for ICS+). I've been searching and downloading non dead links trying to get this to work.
I was able to boot the device but now its locking at the lock screen. I can get into APX mode or to the main v9 bootloader options. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction to get this fixed? I have the root-3.2.1-V4 package also.
Thanks

Sounds like you can do this;
1. Go to Blackthunders listing for roms. Grab a ICS Full Rom for the 500. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816560
2. Get a CWM (latest version) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425 , sroll down to "manual flashing". Download the V8 multi cwm package. Unzip it to your PC.
3. With the tab booted to the V9 bootloader, connected and make sure windows recognizes it.
4. Then in that folder, open a CMD window. Type in the following (I assume the CWM image files are there)
fastboot flash recovery xxxxxxxx.img
(xxxxxxx.img is the name of the Thor CWM recovery image file)
Hit enter and it should flash. Then go back to the V9 bootloader, and select the Recovery option, and see if it boots to the cwm recovery. If it all works, then the rest is easy.
Copy the rom you downloaded to your external SD card, Boot to CWM recovery, and Install zip from external SD card. Should install (if it's a full rom) and when it re-boots, it should be a stock ICS system.

I actually got it back working. I used the apx tool and got the v9 loader with team win cause it's the only one I found that well actually mount the sd card. Got Thor's Rom and flashed. I was going to try to go back stock but was way easier to do it this way. I appreciate your help. Bookmarked for next time my fat fingers get ahead of my brain!

Hi, I rently bought a Galaxy S7 Edge and i wanted to install the SUPERMAN custom ROM so :
I followed the tutorial to root the phone => ok
the tutorial to install TWRP => OK
Then the tutorial to install the ROM, and thats when the problems started to appear.
When I tried backing up before the installation in TWRP, I had a couple of error message like "unable to mount data". As the phone was new, I did not have any personnal data on it I thought "Backup is not necessary (grave error?)
so I skiped and went directly to ROM installation (the ROM was on an external microSD card) => installation OK
BUT I forgot to wipe Dalvik cache before rebooting, and as i understand it, it can cause a bootloop, it apparently did!
Here, as it was late, I started to lose my cool, so I am not entirely sure about the sequence of what I have done, but I am trying my best to be precise so that you can find a way to help me.
- I went back to TWRP, I tried to wipe dalvik cache and other types of wipe, but had the same error "unable to mount data" on every try.
-I googled a little bit and found a video tutorial ecplaining that I need to wipe => advanced wipe => tick system => change file system => then choose a type (i chose exFat) => It went on for 10-15 minutes without any sign of evolution so I reached the peak of my stupidity (really lost my cool), and forced reboot (not sure if I used volume UP or DOWN
-I dont think I did anything else after this, when I tried going into TWRP, I got stuck on the TWRP presentation page
The phone starts normally in download mode (am I saved?)
But it does not completely start in TWRP mode, it gets stuck on the presentation page (where there is the name of the team and the version number)
I tried installation other versions of TWRP with Odin but I still get stuck on the presentation page, although the version number changes adequatly to the version installed.
Please help me! :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
thank you.
Good news, is yes you can restore your device. Download your stock rom , unzip and flash in odin.
The is a dedicated thread on XDA for TWRP, in the steps the is a no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip which you should download.
Once you reach twrp again you should swipe to allow mod, then click on wipe, format data and type in yes when prompted.
After which flash the zip mentioned above. Now you will have access to the system in twrp, and flash whatever rom you like.
trust this helps

Best of luck buddy.
It worked thanks a lot man!
Now, onto the next step, I guess the tutorial I followed initialy was not good enought. So where can I get this "no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip", and how should I install it exactly? Unless I missed something, it is not explained in the xda tutorial
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/rom-s7-edge-rom-v1-1-t3356699
Thank you all
Follow these instructions, the links for the latest recovery and the zip I mentioned are all there. If you need further help. I will help.

I Followed the instructions of your link, then I followed the instructions of the tutorial to install SuperMan ROM bug at the last reboot (after installation) I got stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy Edge 7" screen, the starting screen...
Hope I can install this ROM, I dont want to go back to stock.
Have you updated the modem and bootloader as dev instructed?
First initial boot will take time , remember you wiped everything but you Internal storage and SD card.
"9. Reboot and wait around 10 minute's (deodexed roms need longer to boot the first time)
10. Don't interrupt the process of booting the phone, even when it restarts"
How long did you leave it on the Samsung S7 Edge screen?

Yes I followed the instructions and downloaded the too exact files he said, flashed it with odin
I wiped everything (even internal storage) but micro sd card
I left it more than 30 minutes.
One thing I did I'm not sure about, during root, I followed the tutorial (the link you gave me) to root and install twrp, during this step, I flashed both superSU and dm verity... step 11 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/recovery-official-twrp-hero2lte-3-0-0-0-t3334084 ) Is that ok?
My method, that works for me is as follows :
Flash my stock firmware via odin.
Boot up, select OEM and USB debugging on.
Flash latest TWRP in odin.
Boot up phone, then switch off and enter recovery.
In recovery page i swipe to allow mod, select wipe /format data and type in yes when prompted.
Then , flash the no-verity zip.
I then boot up the phone normally and let it settle for about five min, switch off and get back into TWRP.
Now there shouldn't be any red error msg's in TWRP of cant mount. ( That is important ) otherwise rom wont flash properly.
After which i will flash a rom, most custom stock roms already have SU.

Exactly what I did except for the SU part that i mentionned. i asked on another Forum, they said there might be a problem with the zip I used. So i'm gonna try downloading a new zip for this ROM, but i can't find any alternative links...
I redownloaded the zip from the link in the tutorial, it worked!! thanks for your help!
