Help!!! HTC Desire HD bricked!!! - Desire HD General

Hi, I tried to unlock my HTC Desire HD with Ace Advanced Hack Kit tools, when finished the process I tried to flash Revolution HD ROM using the Clockworkmod Recovery mode, It showed "Install from sdcard complete.", but when I try to boot the phone it stay in white HTC Logo screen and don't change.
I saw in the HBOOT screen and It's saying that it's with S-ON yet, but if I was able to flash the ClockworkMod, I think that it was with S-OFF right? So how can I unbrick my phone, I tried to reflash the ROM and nothing changed.
Someone have some suggestion?
Regards,

can you get to bootloader?
if so, select recovery from there
when in recovery connect to computer
put on ROM zip file
flash
reboot

Run ace hack kit and make sure your phone is security off?

Or maybe u dont wait long enough. For first boot after flashing rom, it tooks several MINUTES to boot up.

guys i have got the same problem,i can not install any rom,it keeps giving me error when i try to install it from recovery, even after i wiped everything.
from Hboot also, when i enter it,after few seconds it stars to check but nothing happens and by the way it shows S-on

1. Make sure the ARHD .zip you have isn't corrupted, you can test it with winrar test, if the test failed, you should get another copy. Some are corrupted during copying from pc to sdcard
2. Do a full wipe with superwipe script before flashing, it's quite crucial too.

It should be s-off, not s-on.

Then u didn't finish the process with the Hack Kit. You probably did the downgrade but failed to run the Hack Kit again. Now, you have to flash a RUU and then re run the Kit in order to gain S-OFF and root.

yes, here's a problem: you did not read the manual completely , because the notes that DO NOT FLASH A CUSTOM ROM(android revolution for example) WITH S-ON, should have checked first that you have s-off, when I forget which is the solution but I think that you can still unbrick your phone, search for avanced ace hack kit irc channel, they can help you.

Flash RUU 2.50.*.* and try aahk again, it should work right.

Is it saying the image is older than whats currently on the phone? If so, you will need to make a goldcard. TheUnlockr has a tutorial on that as well. If its just saying its the wrong image or no image the file may be corrupted. Try downloading it again and give it another try.

just use the universal root program, it worked just fine on mine
universal androot from the market here is the link you want http://208.100.42.21/showthread.php?t=764530
having a problem with the Universal Androot , loaded androot to sc card , rooted the phone all worked , went to Rom Manager App , tried to flash " Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" , chose HTC Magic ( my phone) and get an error message " an error occurred attempting to run priviledged commands!" I also tried older versions of ClockworkMod Recovery , a few of them loaded then I got the same error message!
actually I cannot even flash an alternate recovery!~...................wtf???
When u used androot did u give u the superuser app? And for rom manager it should be the ion/mytouch 3g not the htc magic, slight differences between them
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
When u flash recovery select ion/mytouch not HTC magic.. that's what worked for me. Then androot should be no problem..
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
No I used " Do not install Superuser" ......as I saw on the Universal NOT to use this one.............it has 3 options , Superuser for Android 2.0 - 2.2 , Superuser for 1.5 - 1.6
Do Not Install Superuser. Which one should I use?
Being that your phone is running 1.5/1.6 I would use that 1 , then clockwork will flash through rom manager, select the ion/mytouch 3g option, I have three mytouch's, all rooted this way
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
My phone was rooted no problem using Androot and selecting " Do Not Install Superuser",
Problem came when I opened the ROM Manager App , I tried flashing ClockworkMod Recovery trying both options " HTC Magic & Ion/Mytouch , none worked both produced the same error message mentioned above.
I am wondering , should I go back and re-root my phone and select Superuser 1.5/1.6, I think that is what you are suggesting, is that correct?
Yes u need the apk, my b its been a while
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
Thanks! All is on track! Re-Rooted selected "1.5 / 1.6 Superuser " , flashed ColckworkMod Recovery and then selected Ion/Mytouch , it loaded perfectly!
Seems I am on my way and owe you a cold one!
Cheers!!
No problem try the new tmus rom or super froyo they r the two fastest roms I have found
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
Another problem, now I cannot reboot into recovery , new ROM was successfully downloaded , just cannot get it to reboot , the screen just hangs "htc magic" and does nothing , I have to remove the battery and it starts up in normal operation mode but not running my new ROM.....????? I must be doing something wrong?
PS I did back up my old ROM , no problem.............
Go back to rom manager n reflash recovery. Don't use rom manager to reboot to recovery,it hangs up on splash screen, use home n power, when flashing a rom make sure to wipe everything
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
Tried Home + Power , nothing happens hangs up on splash screen , even if I hold it down for more than 5 minutes! That option no longer works on my phone......really stuck , have a rooted phone and no way to boot into recovery so that I can flash a new ROM............
Are you sure you're flashing a 32B ROM, 32A ROMs will not work.
my Magic is 32A, downloaded Cyangen 6.0 from Rom Manager successfully , just could not reboot
Will your ROM manager allow you to flash "alternate recovery"? If it allows you to flash the amon RA recovery then do that and then try the home + power button... Also will rom manager let you run the fix permissions ? I have noticed that if most any of my applications are having issues I just manually browse for where they are stored via Root Manager and change the permissions and this seems to fix them. If you can run the fix permissions then try doing that and letting it finish all the way and reboot (normally) and come back to the ROM manager and re-flash the mytouch/ion clockwork recovery at least twice to make sure it takes and then try again.
I hope this works for you my son...

[Q] EVO Rom/Root problems

I am having some serious issues with my evo. I have tried 10 different methods, googled 100 different help guides and still no fix.
I had originally rooted my phone using simple root and put the "fixed" froyo rom on there. Everything worked fine, but I was outdated and having some really slow issues so I wanted to try a new rom...Fresh.
Well I tried a few methods, but I somehow reverted my evo back to a nonroot of the original OS. Whenever i go into hboot, my recovery does not work. I push the PC36img and load it, then restart then I attempt to go to my recovery where it gives me the error picture with the yellow/red triangle. I then select recovery (after pressing UP volume and powerbutton) and try to load update from sd card. Everytime I do that I get a Failed error.
I've tried to reroot using several methods off this website, I've done everything I can to get it working but can't. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Try reflashing your recovery image.
BTW I have hboot 79.0 with S-ON, so it looks like I def became unrooted.

Not sure how it would have just unrooted itself. I would run an RUU from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060
Then, I would re-root and start clean again.

RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed

I would have waited about ten minutes then restarted the phone. If the phone is stuck at the HTC logo, then I would go ahead and re-run the RUU.
Let me know how it turns out.

ok, finally got it working. Had to restart the phone manually and try it on a different computer. It updated it to the newer version of android and hboot, thank goodness! That was the easiest and most productive thing I've been able to do so far, thanks!
Well now I try to boot into recovery and get the same error:
can't open /cache/recovery/command
Then I get :
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
When i try to load update from sdcard

Ok, so, I think you said you got the RUU working which would have completely restored the phone to unrooted and stock from factory.
Now, you need to re-root your phone using one of the methods on xda. I used the manual method here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045. However, many people have had success with the one-click methods.
After you re-root (which will likely included installing a recovery), select a rom you want to try, boot to recovery, wipe and flash it. A great starter ROM is MikFroyo 4.6 or 4.5.
Try downloading the PC36IMG.zip from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
put that on the root of your SD card, then boot into HBOOT and it should find that PC36IMG.zip after a few seconds and ask if you want to flash it. Choose yes and let it finish. Should then be able to reboot into recovery.
ok thanks, i'll try it when I get back home

Ok, I tried this method...the filesize of pc36img.zip is only 3.5mb, but it didn't seem to work. It scanned the file then just went back to the hboot screen with my options never asking to flash.
I'm going to try to reroot using the other method now...
So I clicked the link and he forwarded to the autoroot.bat page so I used his method. It worked well (the 2nd time around) all the way until it started to push amon_ra_1.8-mod.... then after that it says rebooting into the bootloader, and it reboots into it and just says waiting for phone...
It does appear that my phone is rooted now, but my recovery is still not working. If I use ROM manager will it work since my phone is rooted or do I need to have a rooted ROM to run it off of?

Does your phone show s-off while in the bootloader? If so you should be able to run the FlashZip script and use that to flash the pc36img-sprintlovers zip. That one contains everything needed to bring your phone up to date and will leave you with a rooted rom and recovery.

FINALLY! Thanks a million! My recovery is now working and it installed the built in sprinter lovers rom, I guess the anti-virus was stopping it so I disabled it and ran the flash script. I was able to install Fresh on there, just to try it out. I do have a few questions though:
1. I noticed after going through many pages that to update to a newer ROM version you don't always have to wipe clean, you can just install (or flash) the new update? I noticed in Fresh there is a built in app that does that. Is this true for most ROMS or only certain ones?
2. I assume I am using the RA recovery. I noticed the backup/restore feature on there. What exactly does that backup and when should I use it?
3. I've noticed I've been very low with memory on my phone (not SD card), I have about 258MB free. How can I clear space and when I mount my phone what files are important to keep and can I get rid of, is it okay to get rid of my rom.zip's and radio.zip's?
Thanks again to everyone, autoroot was def the most painless root ever.

1) You'll want to always wipe your cache/dalvik (I do everytime I'm in the recovery) but the Data depends on the ROM. Usually if you are going from one sense rom to another you are ok and the same for AOSP to AOSP. Going from Sense to AOSP you'll need to wipe data though.
2) Autoroot comes with a modified version of AmonRA, they are mostly just speed tweaks. To make a complete backup of your ROM select Boot (kernel), System (ROM), Data (Apps & Settings) and .android (apps on SD card)
3) You can delete the zips from your sd card if you don't need them but that's about normal for free memory.

[Q] Renamed /system/app/libm.so and now the phone does not boot. Any remedy?

Hello all,
I successfully rooted (temp rooted using Visionary) my phone: myTouch 4g 2 days ago, and had removed all stock apps. Then I felt I wanted the stock mail app back, so I tried to reinstall it. Since it was showing errors, I renamed the /system/lib/libm.so file to /system/lib/libm_orig.so thinking that it was related to the mail app. Realizing my mistake, I tried renaming it back but in vain. I restarted my phone and now it does not boot at all. (what was I thinking!!? just one rename caused all of this!)
To all experts here - Do I have a chance to get my phone working back? If so, what should I do?
I have tried the following:
- tried a factory reset (I have never flashed a custom rom on it), but no luck.
- fastboot a clockwork recovery image, but no luck. It says "writing recovery... FAILED (remote: not allowed)
- adb shell - does not find the device
- By the way, before I made the renaming-change, I had turned off 'USB debugging'.

Did you make a nandroid backup of your rom before you removed anything and can you boot into recovery, not boot loader but recovery with all the orange text? If the answer is yes to both, then boot into recovery and select backup/restore and then select restore and restore the backup.

That was my first thought, but then I remembered he only temp rooted. You can't install a custom recovery with only temp root. As for the problem, I don't know of a solution. It actually sounds kind of bad because there is no backup, no custom recovery to flash anything new, no engineering bootloader to use fastboot, and the phone won't boot which would allow the phone to be perm rooted with gfree or Visionary. This might be a PD15IMG.zip situation.

As you said before, we all miss stuff.
Thanks guys! That was real quick!
So when you say: "This might be a PD15IMG.zip situation.", do you mean the instructions below? (got it from androidforums.com/mytouch-4g-all-things-root/234246-mytouch-4g-roms-2.html)
The easiest way to unroot is to boot into HBOOT (the same place you check for S-OFF) and flash PD15IMG.zip (DO NOT TRY TO FLASH THROUGH RECOVERY!)
PD15IMG.zip will overwrite everything on the phone and turn S-ON, reinstall oem recovery, and reinstall the stock ROM as it was the very first time you turned on the phone. Truly one-click.
Unrooting is so easy I really can't think of any reason not to. Here's the guide.
theunlockr.com/2010/12/16/how-to-unroot-the-t-mobile-mytouch-4g
Download the file. Rename to PD15IMG.zip. Make sure it's pd15img.zip and not pd15img.zip.zip. Do you have file extensions showing in windows? Do you know what that means?
Copy file to root of sdcard. Not in a folder, just on the sdcard.
Power off phone and remove battery. Reinstall battery but do not power on phone.
Hold vol down + power until you get to a white screen. The phone should "detect" pd15img.zip.
Follow the on-screen instructions to update.
DO NOT TOUCH IT UNTIL IT'S DONE AND REBOOTS ON ITS OWN INTO THE STOCK ROM. This might take a while.
Yep, that's exactly it. There are a couple threads that have that file in it. The file is ~312MB in size. That will restore your phone to 100% out-of-the-box, post OTA status. Of course you'll loose any personal data stored in internal memory.
This is the original thread on restoring your phone to unrooted stock, but the download there doesn't seem to work anymore.
This thread has a working download link to the same file. Just make sure you rename it to PD15IMG.zip before trying to flash it.
Ok, thanks so much! I will let you guys know how it goes.

........Death before dishonor........
H,
Thought you might have some insight into this
The problem I have is it only shows the splash screen (stock splash is green "myTouch 4G" on white background) when
starting the phone.
Before this happened I had rooted the phone and updated the ROM and was putting some patches on the phone, Recovery shows
info as s-off.
To do a recovery I downloaded the stock ROM from a link here at XDA
(PD15IMG_Glacier_TMOUS_1.17.531.2_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155771_signed.zip I also did a hash check and it downloaded fine no corruption) renamed image with the exact name PD15IMG.ZIP (made sure it was not a
PD15IMG.ZIP.zip) and copied it into an empty 1 gig SD memory.
I re booted, did a factory reset x 2 after going to boot-loader, that did not help so I inserted the SD card with only
the PD15IMG.ZIP image in it and rebooted to recovery, but recovery does not ask me anything when it looks for the
PD15IMG.ZIP it says no image or wrong image (it also looks for PD15DIAG.ZIP, PD15IMG.nbh, and PD15IMG.zip same
message) and puts me back into recovery.
Any Ideas on what I should do ?????
Thanks

You shouldnt be going into recovery to try and flash the pd15img.zip. You have to go into hboot and wait for it to prompt you to do it.

^ what he said , those pd15img's should only be flashed in hboot , if it doesnt work then flash a reliable rom in recovery like cyanogenmod , if it continues to give you a splash screen , you MIGHT , have a failed emmc , theres always a chance , it happened to my G2 , it just randomly pooped out on me.

Assume your phone is rooted? I have had my inspre 4g (same phone as HD) hang a few times and by just removing the battery, waiting a few minutes and then restarting (while holding the down volumn button) got me back to recovery, From there you can either restore from previous backup or load another rom from your sd card. Some more info would help,

can you give just hint please?
If you don't have a clue I'd say download an RUU exe from the development forum and run that. It will reinstall a stock copy of android on it.

so which rom will be need?
and guide me.
Search for oxygen rom on xda (I know this rom works since I'm using it) and then put it on an SD card and put that into your phone. Take the battery out and put it back in after a couple of mins, hold volume down and power till it boots into cwm then use the volume buttons to go up and down
And power button to select and first do a wipe and factory reset then install zip for SD card, back up if you want but not sure if there is any point keeping a back up of something that doesn't work. Hope this helps we were all newbies at one point lol

First of all, you need to research before you go and try rooting and installing custom roms. Its essential to be prepared for hiccups along the way. You said you did a factory reset, that's not good. By doing that you have deleted your clockworkmod recovery. So you have two options reinstall cwr and flash a custom rom or simply reinstall an ruu.
I actually wrote a guide for this issue, as it happens alot. Its called "stuck in hboot read this" its in the general section. Their it has steps on how to reflash cwr or an ruu
