No matter what, Youtube videos HD stutter and lag intolerably. Running CM9 @ 1.5GHz, and on HC/ARHD HC it was perfectly smooth. It was also laggy on stock ICS. I believe this is an ICS issue, and was wondering if anyone has a fix.
Yes instal geuvors kernel test 13 and not 13b
Dont run from mobil site, click "desktop" in the lowest part of the site.
Or start videos in stick it player when browsing

Got same stuttering here in browser and youtube app. Stock, latest revolver and Revolution HD roms with test kernel 14 and 15 on both. No difference. The cpu is through the roof when watching HD content. The "force gpu" setting on/off makes little difference to the overall framerate. Will try test13 and report back.
The youtube app played everything smooth in HD on Honeycomb, so I went back to HC to test if it ran smooth again. It did not for some reason. Don't know what to make of this..
It is perfectly smooth for me. Check what version of the YouTube app you are running in the Settings. The latest is 3.5.5. I found that for me cm9 did not identify itself correctly on the Market and the YouTube app would never update leaving me with an old version.

Maybe with high overclock it is semi smooth, but I don't believe it is as smooth as on HC. Check on your PC how smooth it CAN play for reference....
I have tried your video in my Youtube app, fullscreen and HD enabled.
I do have some stuttering, but really not that much. It might be happening every minute or so : the screen seems to freeze before it catches up. The rest of the time, it plays perfectly fluid.
And TBH, it is really bearable.

What is your rom / kernel? What CPU speed?
PS yes between stuttering it is fluent, but the stuttering is quite annoying, I have it every 5-10 seconds or so in the beginning of the movie.

So i tried with youtube app, stutter not really watchible
Opened with stick it videoplayer and it was 100% lagless. Also it was floating over the screen so that was awsome
Edit: The quality was not the same, even if HD was enabled

Running the last Megatron rom, with Guevor15 OC'ed at 1,4. The stuttering definitely doesn't happen as often as what you're reporting, but it must have to do with my overclock.
I don't really remember how well it might have worked on HC, cause I usually don't watch much Youtube videos of that quality...
Overclocking isn't going to help mutch since YouTube uses the gpu to render the video's
same problem here. Never stuttered on HC.
Running latest Android Revolution HD 3.2.1 [email protected]
Still stuttering and lag when there's alot of movement. If I overclock to 1500mhz it goes a bit smoother, but HC had no stutter (without overclocking).
Youtube app version is 3.5.5. Guess it's the youtube app that doesn't take full advantage of the gpu in ICS, or some nvidia driver issue.
Just have to live with it I guess, until Asus comes out with a fix. If they still continue to support this old tablet
EDIT: Using Setcpu [email protected] and governor Interactive i managed to get a bit smoother performance (test16 kernel). Lags a bit at the start of a video, and some stutter when there's ALOT of action/movement.
Try this, download sempervidlink from google play, it enables you to send videolinks like youtube to any player (mxplayer) and choose which quality you want it in. Open a actionfilled video to see if it helps

Thx! will try this later today.
I Actually went back to Revolver 3.11 Honeycomb with no OC. All videos run smooth without any stuttering (youtube app). I guess Honeycomb manages to use the GPU, while ICS uses the CPU. If you tick the "show cpu thingy" under dev options and play a HD video, the bars are through the roof. damn annoying! This is the only issue i've got with ICS. no deep sleep of death or random reboots hehe

I'll also have to try the above method, since I also get stuttering and clipping of the search bar (not sure if thats related)
Just use guevor's v20 kernel and he posted some NVIDIA codec updates. I think it will be included into v21.
I can (almost) confirm that the new codecs helps, it's not as smooth as on hc, I don't think, but it's certainly better.
The test video posted earlier is still choppy for me but other stuff that was choppy before is better.
Link to the codecs.

Guys. this is an ics issue. i can confirm on 4 different devices.
nexus s 4g gingerbread was all good, ics no
epic 4g touch gingerbread great, ics leaks, cm9, no good
stock galaxy nexus, no good.
now the transformer, hc good. ics no good.
i have almost 40mbps down at my house there is no reason it should stutter.
it seems to me the first 2 or 3 videos are fine, after that it lags. i have to shut it down and kill it for it to play right again.

Hello fellow Tab owners,
Since yesterday afternoon I own a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v (GT-P7100). I really liked the device from the start, but was kind of dissapointed on the graphics performance. Whenever I opened the app drawer it wouldn't look smooth at all, sometimes sliding the homescreens would be slow as well...
So I thought that was a Honeycomb issue, then after installing Angry Birds I really felt let down. It was unable to run the game smoothly, while my DesireHD has no trouble at all. Whenever I pulled back one of the birds, or a lot of items were drawn on screen it wouldn't even hit 20FPS (guesstimation).
I went to find out what could cause these troubles, for that I needed my favorite app, SetCPU. I thought the CPU might be stuck on some frequency or something. So I rooted my device, and opened setCPU.
I'm not really a technical guy when it comes to developing for android devices. I am experienced with flashing roms on various phones, so the first thing I noticed was that the scaling was set to Interactive, I haven't seen that ever on any of the devices that I had. So I changed that bit and set it to "Set on Boot", then I did a reboot to be sure and *poof* it was blazing fast. No more delays or lags when opening the app drawer, and it was silky smooth.
Was this really the problem? You tell me, but I thought I'd share this with you since a lot of you seem dissapointed with their gaming speeds. All games run perfect now, Monster Madness runs great, Fruit Ninja, Angry Birds, Dungeon Defenders... All run just fine right now.
Tell me about your experiences
Wait until Honeycomb 3.1.
I read from the Xoom forum, 3.1 really does improve the performance.

I'm sorry, but did you actually read the post at all? :$ I'm trying to get a possible fix for our current 3.0.1 Honeycomb devices. I believe it will be faster with 3.1 but until then this might actually fix some of the lag issues

Hey Frico, post a rebuttal video showing how awesome your smoothness is.
even with setCPU in performance mode, I still get major lag in fruit ninja.. and I mean the phone version, not the thd one. however, I do notice the launcher being a bit smoother.

I will upload a video tommorow on how smooth it looks for me. Haven't tested Fruit Ninja non-thd. But in all angry birds versions the difference should be very very clear. Atleast, it was for me.

thats odd...angry birds plays perfectly fine for me I do have extreme lag in the home screen department though. When i first got it, i didnt have any lag at all with a loaded homescreen. One week later it takes 5 seconds to rotate and its very jittery. Going to try the setcpu settings see if that makes a difference. THanks for the idea

i'm also very disappointed about the battery life! please, don't get me wrong, i love this device and i will never ever give it back again! but before my galaxy tab i owned an ipad, and i have to admit that battery life on the ipad is just awesome! more than 10 hours of heavy usage, weeks of standby.
with the galaxy tab i feel like the battery gets empty very fast, you can almost watch the battery indicator go down by every 3 to 4 minutes
and they promise a standby time of about 1000 hours! i don't believe my device will ever get any close to this! my guess is that after 3 days of standby it needs to be charged again.

Got it running but removed it again. It just runs to slow on a Desire(on my Desire).
It's like driving cars in slow motion with 1 fps.
So I guess there's no point in trying this!
Thanks to all of you!
It's laggy as hell... Some shaman dances and magic spells seemed to increase fps from 1 to 5-6, yet still impossible to play)) Well, maybe Rockstar will concider optimizing GTA3 for single-core devices...
Sadly Desire can't play this game, its hardware just isn't powerful enough. Also installed it on GF Samsung Galaxy S2 and it works super smooth.
I download it now, it has 430mb, almost certainly it will be very laggy, same like Gameloft HD games.
yep did 2 missions but it ****es me up.. like the pre poster said 1fps its laggy and makes no fun to play it on the desire..

Just use this app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305060 and set it for hard gaming, and use chainfire and set it like the picture, and overclock ur device to the max.
It works for me. Sometimes it's a bit laggy but it's very playable.
P.S. the chainfire setup is only for desire, might want to select "reduce textures" instead of "unroll". But on the desire it works great.

Yeah, i take back what i said before
It was smooth and all, for a bit, but after playing 15mins or so, the game begins to lag...
I tried OC to 1.5Ghz, but it doesnt make much of a difference
I'm on 1.0. I loaded 1.1, it works, but crashes after 5 minutes gameplay. I have to reboot my phone.
I don't see a performance inprovement in 1.1 tbh.
Watch a video of it on the Samsung galaxy tab 8.9 or ipad2 and you can see how liquid smooth it is!
There are higher graphics! You can see the headlights of cars, refelctions etc, seems much better and smooth!
Wonder how it holds up on the ipod touch4, it has 1ghz cpu and only 256mb RAM, less than your Desires. I saw on my Desire S, it takes up a hefty 153mb RAM when running!

Yep its time like these where I want October 2012 to come. Thats when I can get new phone lol But in saying that apart from gaming Desire still holds its own with even the big new phones. Who would of fort we can run sense 3.5 and now getting worked on ICS sense 3.5 time are still great, just not when playing some games lol.
I had less than 5 fps -.-'
It run smooth in the begining...
after entering the game.......
Everything change..........
slow...............
Desire is not suitable to play this...
Although there is some way to play it smooth (OC and chanfire), keep your desire to be long lasting
It lags very much. Desire's hardware is not enough for this game.
Has everybody encountered after doing some intensive stuff like doing AnTuTu benchmark, the phone abruptly slows down to a crawl where animations slow down like rotation being damn slow, swiping through screens also is slow, and games being damn slow. For instance, I ran AnTuTu benchmark and it won't go higher than 30FPS. where usually it's 40 - 60 FPS.
This is not the typical lag I encounter.
The only way to solve this is to restart the phone. Sometimes restarting the phone once is not enough.
This sounds fishy. Never happened to me before. Although will try again once I download Antutu.
Edit: Just checked... Ran Antutu. Got a score of 6474. Everything seems fine. After quitting Antutu, scrolled through the homescreens. Everything was smooth as before.
Edit2: Ran Antutu again & got a score of 6502. Tried playing ShadowGun immediately afterwards. It ran without any hiccups...
Currently on KL8.

Turn off the power saving mode and you should notice a big improvement in lag.
I get around 56fps running AnTuTu with system power saving off. With power saving on,I only get 27fps.A big difference.
Could this be an overheating issue? Your cpu might be throttling coz of high temps.

This is not only because of AnTuTu, this only happens when I'm running an intensive app, where suddenly after exiting it will slow down to a crawl.
The most annoying part is the rotation animation. It is devastating slow.

What sort of "intensive app"? Is it still running in the background?
If you have an app that uses a lot of memory, and then immediately try to use another memory intensive app, you may the OS begins to run low on memory as the garbage collector may not have run yet.

Dave

Killing the tasks on task manager won't help, neither cleaning memory.
Same problem
I have exactly same problem, my phone starts to lag randomly example in browser.
First its super smooth and then suddenly it kind of turns off gpu acceleration and starts to lag.
Even cm9 alpha doesnt have this problem so it's wery strange issue. And its there on every phone my friend also noticed it.
this is an issue with mali driver on note.
the gpu clock have two clockspeed that is 160mhz and 267mhz.
during that time when u run the benchmark the gpu clock to 160 and only utilise half of the mali power.
this had been explained by tegrak, creator of tegrak app.
the only solution is reboot and rerun the test or flash fm 2.0 that is clock min to 200mhz or flash tegrak kernel (can find at tegrak 2nd core in android dev forum) and use tegrak overclock app to lock the gpu to 267mhz.

It is same problem i have exactly same impact, everything becomes lagyer. Same thing with every note.
The browser was only sample where you can notice it.
I can hereby confirm that Tegrak Kernel Build 31 is able to resolve the issue after setting the minimum GPU clock to 267mhz on Overclock Ultimate.
FM Kernel 2.0 doesn't solve the issue.

One of my favorite things about the Note: No hotness!!! I had this issue all the time with the SGSII to the point that I couldn't hold it to me ear. My Note doesn't even get warm! So happy.
i am on a stock phone and seen enough force closures in the last week and more than enough in the last 48h. i was just showing my daughter the live wallpapers, so was just flipping through various ones, after flipping through them quickly and setting it, the phone froze, was not able to do anything for about half and hour as phone was booting and rebooting with me unable to even switch off the phone. luckily, at one point i just was able to change wall paper to the black wall paper available on the market and it sorted itself out. it has done this twice whle flipping through live wall papers quickly. the wll papers i was flipping through were flames, weather windmills, aquariium, 3d wall paper, most came with the phone with the exception of flames and black wallpaper.
the phone is fine now but OTG function is flaky, dont know if it is the connector, so have ordered a samsung otg from amazon now and will find out whether it is the phone or the cable.
the built in file manager has serious lag issues as it keeps 'processing' after changing every folder and have stopped using that now and use other free ad supported versions instead which have no problems. same with stock video player which keeps force closing often, so use mxplayer or dice player without issues.
an expensive phone like this should work stock apps fine and not require third party apps for video playing and file browsing etc. was on the verge of returning it when it froze but seems ok now.
Hey,
maybe it is a lil bit silly question but I have to ask:
Is the I9000 able to run Temple Run real smooth? It runs stuttery on my Device with Semaphore + Slim ICS on default Settings but even though on OC Settings too.
The thing is: On my SO's iPhone 3GS it runs without any problems? So is it maybe a ROM Issue or is the I9000 Gaming Perfomance really worse the 3gs performance?
Thanks
rest0ck
Mine runs perfectly with CM9 nightly and with semaphore... Try changing governor to like...smartass?
Sent from a phone made for the gods
Runs fine for me
Runs fine here as well, I'm on SlimICS 4.2 with stock kernel no overclocking.
Try the latest version from the devs site http://www.slimroms.com/
I tried everything. I was on Slim ICS 4.2 with Semaphore 1.2.5 - tried every governor (Performance, Smartass) but still stuttery.
Now I installed another Rom which is CM9 based and ..still stuttery (RemiICS). I don't have installed that much + synchonisation is for most addons disabled. WiFi enabled. Any other app is closed. Sometimes it tuns smooth, sometimes it's not playable, sometimes there a lil bit of lag. I even tried HugeRam enabled :/

Using GT-I9000 my sent Tapatalk 2 from.

awesome :good:
what rom you are using? im using cm7.2 and it was very laggy.
what kernel should i use? is there a kernel for cm7.2?
You can't compare the gaming performance with the iPhone, because iOS is optimised for apps and games. Apps and games is like the main purpose of iOS.
On android the focus is more for multitasking, media handling etc so the optimisation for games is not as good, even if we have better hardware.
It's just like how even a dual core phone cannot play a NDS game through emulator as smooth as a NDS itself, even though the processor in the NDS is about 100-300MHz.
Hmm, try using a task manager to get rid of the background processes, get rid of bloatware in your phone etc. Hope it helps!

Slim and semaphore, no o/c runs smooth as silk
on 2.3 it laggs like hell
but on ics it is super smooth:good:

This is something I never really thought about. It does make sense
But .. on the other hand. When Multitasking was possible in iOS (or isnt it really possible it just pauses other apps?) it doesnt affect the game performance?

It won't affect game performance in iOS because, iOS does not perform true multitasking. Android does!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
That's true. They say ios has "multitasking"
BUT .This feature is like, when you are browsing on the web, your navigation app is"calculating route".
You see? ios pauses apps which are not set primary by user...
Well if guys now one more thing. From news.
In Finland,a boy was nearly getting killed by iphone!yes.Phone exploaded in his pocket...He was so lucky damn!

WorkED fine here as well CM9 nightly with stock kernel....as about iphone, android game isnt nearly as optimised as iphone one

YES
just use CM9 OR AOKP man and it will work smoothly..
on DarkyROM v11 black edition with Semaphore ICS 1.2.5 runs great!!!!!
But why isn't it possible to set a "high priority" or something else so I can focus on the game I play and my browser in the background just ..pauses? Won't that be great? ;/
Btw I tried CM9 but had a few problems (wasnt able to download apps after I set dpi back to 240 and got bootloop after installing Semaphore (correct version)) so I did a complete new installation of Slim ICS with everything wiped, even system.
At the time it is pretty smooth but sometimes but I hadn't the time to really test it (2 games so far) - btw I'm currently using midnight ICS Kernel with Ondemand governor. Was a midnight-gb fan and even thought it is outdated and discontinued I still think it's a really nice kernel. But in case I get rnd reboots or performance issues I'll give Semaphore another try.
It is now available for Android here: Google Play Store
And I tested it on my Motorola Razr I
All I can really say is: "this engine is x86 processor architecture ready!" I thought I wouldn't be able to run it but I could and with excellent results
And omg it runs so smooth!
Benchmark:
Test 1:
-Performance level: High Quality
-Average FPS: 50.7
Test 2:
-Performance level: High Performance
-Average FPS: 52.9
These results are crashing other phones.
Btw, I'm running ICS, maybe someone with JB can test it and say if there is any difference
And how exactly you could run it? mine crash as soon as i begin to heard cricket sounds!!
Runs brilliant. 50.4GPS on mine

This is just a test from epic games of their graphics engine "Unreal Engine" for android. They released it for iOS a few years ago and that led to some really good looking games, now they released it for android but as not all android phones are the same we have the ability to benchmark to see if we can run it well on our device, and the razr i scores pretty well.
So this is not a game, it's just an app to see the performance of our device and the features of the graphics engine.

I just downloaded it from the Google Play Store. Then run it and it said it was downloading something I couldn't see well because it changed in a second, so I waited and when it was about to start it crashed. Then I tried it again and this time worked and the it worked all other times.
So if yours don't work try uninstalling and reinstalling. I'm using ICS, maybe it doesn't run on JB if you are using JB.

Runs fine on JB ~54FPS average. Ran first time.
Best of 3 with Jelly Bean: 58,5 fps (High Quality)
Ran it on ICS before and got 50.8 fps. After updating to JB I'm getting a 58.2 fps average over 5 runs! Seems like the update also includes some new video drivers. Very nice tech demo by the way, looks really impressive.
Getting 58,6 fps... Runs pretty smooth on the Razr i (JB) and looks awesome!
Motorola Xoom
I really want to see what this beast can do in real, as i'm gettin one next month... i tryied this benchmark on my Tegra II's Motorola Xoom and get a 22 FPS at 1280x752... a solid result as this tablet may have two years now...
