CyanogenMod 7.1 released

What exactly is the difference? What can you do on CM7 that you can't do otherwise? Just wondering if it's worth all the trouble.

This is an official CM rom made by the CM team. This is the final build of CM 7.1 using OS version 2.3.7. Now when the ICS source is out they will start work on CM 9. Expect daily/nightly revisions of this build from the CM devs on this forum though
And in answer to your question. CM is a android rom built from the ground up for each device. Unlike most custom roms, CM is based on the AOSP (Android open source project) and not the latest sony firmware. It's basically a stock android rom, very fast and very stable but includes nothing Sony. It dosen't even include the google apps, you have to flash them as a seperate package

is it worth doing to the xperia play, im on the latest nordic firmware would i lose things such as facebook inside, and the xperia play menus?

You will loose everything like that. But on the plus side, you get more space, better kernel and latest android version.

hey just seen this fantastic news !!!, I apologise in advance , but would somebody be able to point me to the right area for a guide to install this on xperia play, i have a vodafone uk device with a locked bootloader,? ..... thanks in advance im sorry if this has been asked its just now this release is a stable version i wondered if there is anything inparticular i need to do different when installing

the one thing i'm worried about is losing the Touhcpads/PSXperia. I know that both of these work on the XDA version of CM7, but what about the official?

thats my worry aswell, i can live without the psxperia, but what's the point of having the play if the slide out controls dont work

no xLoud or fake BEngine,PSPocket or any of the cute SONY apps..

just saw this too,at least v will be on the list of it ,will be a lot more changes is coming soon,unlike before,there is just a too small crowd of ppl of r800 owner

Anyone now how to istall it? There is just a zip, no boot.img. i am on 2.3.3 with doomkernel.

i'm thinking we probably have to load it with clockworkmod still waiting for mine to download though so i haven't tested yet

Okay my download finished i will make a uploaded.to mirror soon becouse the download on the CM site is very slow. There is a boot.img inside the zip, so i think we really just have to wipe and flash the zip.

Official CyanogenMod do not need download tracking. They have stats.cyanogenmod.com

does this mean clockworkmod will support xperia play cause it dosnt at the moe on rom manager, i guess ill have to try installing via the fastboot method on here which im not 100% sure about ? ....
any help guide installing this would be a big help

i tried installing th zip file of cyanogenmod 7.1 via the clockworkmod recovery from freexperia but it came up with assert failed getprop

Currently the apps are Odexed, so they can't be conventionally installed or resigned. And the current iteration of Baksmali doesn't work with the deodexing process. I'm sure somebody will be able to do so or Baksmali will get an update to work with it. But it'll take some time, a lot of great things coming for Android nonetheless.

iv got past the framework errors, now edtting ram disk to get some services running. ics wont boot without them

I got it's Music.apk to work on my Defy see here.
Small step for mankind though.
Most of apk get parsing errors and not even sure that the Music apk is such a new one anyway...but still I was excited to try also.

Coming to the speed thing its lil bit faster than usual as system apps removed(Not all again )
U can feel the difference.. battery backup is really good and better.. I got around one day with mod usage..
Bugs:
Most important part of any work is BUGS!! without bugs u cant learn anything..
In this ROM, only one bug is there(if u find any pls lemme know ) the camera recorder FC's i tried third party apps no use.. Still FC's i ll fix it in next part for sure...
How to Install:
AS simple as that...
WIPE DATA, WIPE CACHE AND WIPE DALVIK CACHE.. Install zip from SDcard!!
WAIT REBOOT,IF U STUCK INTO ANDROID BOOT SCREEN JUST REMOVE THE BATTERY AND PUT IT BACK AND REBOOT..(DUNNO WY IT WORKS THAT WAY SORRY FOR THAT)

I had deleted previous thread due to etas and nooby quastions
Now it is stable enough to use as daily ROM with minor bugs so I have posted again

now themes changing setting background but yet theme-value.xml not loading so problem if you use dark background so avoid dark background

restart phone if sdcard connected to PC for some user (if you face same then use cwm/mount/ mount USB. for connect to PC)
if you chose darker background in theme then text is hardly visible(will be fixed in next realese)

It was simple booting menu. It shows 3 simple menu before you boot into your android environment:
* Boot Normally - Boot to Android OS normally
* Recovery - Boot to Recovery
* Bootloader - Boot to Bootloader
That's an elementar version, that who wants, can modify as he wants.
It was potentially become useful tools if we can configure it for our needed, maybe we can add menu like: zip align before boot, fix permission before boot, boot to safe mode, etc. Or maybe even dual rom boot if it possible.

Just tested this on my ace. Works great. No problems at all. Very nice concept. I dont need to press any key combo to boot into recovery mode anymore. Thanks a lot. It would be great if you guys can add an option to boot into download mode.

Works great, well not that great because for me, all 3 options are booting into Android.

Eh? Which rom?
Try wiping cache and dalvik cache.

I'm on stock ROM (Adrenaline ROM) and what I get is every option boot into android.

If it takes a long time to load isn't a real bug, cause when you touch the AndroidOS button, it starts automatically loading all scripts and rom data, so it taks long time.
It depends on your running rom...

The 3 same options seems to be an Ace (only) problem. Do you ALL have this problem? Because maybe the problem is that all Ace users have different executing files...

It fully works with me.
