[Q] Blue dotted lines in the display - WTD - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys, I'm in big trouble. My Defy's display is having some blue dotted lines in it. It was not there till yesterday. Phone fell off from my pocket flat on it face. No visual cracks on the glass , but these lines has appeared.
Am i scr*w*d ??

Hi!
I've already experienced this issue after I dropped mine.
I just took the battery out and let it rest for 1-2 days.
What I experienced is, that the lines get worse, as long as the defy is in use.
Taking the battery out for several hours could make the shrink again.
So, before sending it in for repair, just have a try. I can't promise anything, but it worked out well for me.
Good luck!

Well, I guess the screen is screwed. If there are no visible physical damage to your phone, you can give it to the service centre. Make sure you flash stock ROM and get rid of 2nd init and root etc before giving it there.

Phone gone for service.. Waiting for the call from service center.

The exact same thing happened me a few days ago. I just kept rebooting the phone and pressed down firmly on the screen after every reboot. The problem went after a couple of days.

'Splodge' on screen

Splodge, was the only way I could describe it...take a look at the attached photo.
I'm certain I have seen someone else post this before.
It just happened randomly! Was fine all day yesterday, then picked my phone up to answer it last night, and after the phone call had ended I saw this on the screen...
Touch screen still works, and you can still see underneath it, its less visible when the back light is on. Of course when it's off, you can see the effect it has!
So...what is it? Easily fixed or what?
Like I said, I'm sure I have seen this posted by someone else before...
Hehe... nice one. It will most likely disappear if you gently pull the glass with a suction cup.
Brgds... /Tubgirl
Suction cup thing works but then it comes back.
HTC said it would be out of warrenty :S and they would have to look at it first.
O2 however, said if its in warrenty (which it is) then they will get it repaired and supply a courtesy handset while they have it.
i had one the same size it has slowly gone to half the size 5 pence piece but o2 said its not under warrenty and i work for a major phone retailer and my repairs guy said it may so im very unsure wuld have re flash it as its hspl grrr

interesting, well I'm taking it to the O2 store next week, so will see what they say, will keep the email i had off them saying they will as backup!
It has reduced in size, but still has the rainbow pattern in the middle.
I had a similar screen problem however it didnt look anywhere near as bad as yours. Mine had slight discolouration mostly noticable on white backgrounds. Pressing the screen a little bit harder than normal created the sort of effect you get when pressing the screen of a calculator (dont know what to call it) I took mine to the o2 shop with a different fault and also mentioned this fault. I got it back 6 days later but they hadnt fixed the screen problem. I sent it off again then and there and 6 days later i got a new phone.
O2 now have my HD2
Been given a nasty old Nokia phone as a temp...forgot how small some screens are...lol
should take 7-10 days they said...so fingers crossed...
Any way of fixing this problem without sending it back as this has happened to my cousins HTC HD2, kind of glad it didn't happen to mine lol, any quick fixes to know about?
I've had the same with my HD2.
They fixed it for me (new screen)

Was actually thinking about this, then tried to figure out how it happened, he goes it was one of two things, since he considers himself a bit of a playboy lol, he tells this tale of a girl sitting in his lap and it happened or could have been wetness (kind of goes hand in hand don't you think lol).. how does this problem usually occur?

LOL!
Well anyway! For me it was very random. The phone was fine all day at work, I had a phone call in the evening, after the phone call I just looked at my phone, and there it was...
Some people have said its caused my the heat of the battery and signal, dunno.
Its a very thin space between the battery and the back of the screen, so maybe thats true.
I can't see how over pressure can cause it as its a glass screen, and glass doesn't bend like plastic.
I had a smaller of these newton rings at the center. Much smaller than yours.
Suddenly one day it disappeared.
It was during summer and I thought it was probably because of the heat.

Interesting, he did always complain about his battery overheating or when on a phone call, the phone temperature increases rapidly, guess that was the cause, at least I get to tell him some good news, he can go to spearmint rhino as much as he wants lol

Hasn't arrived at the store yet, waiting for a phone call, fingers crossed for today! that would be exactly a week.
Hope its fixed soon for you, its interesting about the battery and heat, my hd2 gets warm below the battery and that is also below the main area your problem is on, I suspect its down to a screen fault myself.

Grey Screen (NO REACTION) - Please help me out guys

Hey guys...
So, I have my Desire Z since about 4 weeks and nothing went wrong with it.
Really NOTHING bad happened, it didn't fall on the floor, didn't fall into water, etc etc.
So this afternoon I unlocked it and suddenly I got a blank grey screen.(worked perfect in the morning) The phone did react to my power up/on button, but I couldn't see what I was doing. Also the touchscreen worked, because I could unlock it (I heard the unlock noise) but I only get a blank grey screen.
I tried Bootloader and Battery pull. Also I took out my SD/SIM/Battery and just blow through the whole phone but nothing want to happen:-(
By the way, my phone is fully rooted and running on Cyanogenmod7 since 5 days. Everything worked perfect until this afternoon...
EDIT:
Looks just like this http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f368/forthcomingtangent/DSCI1196.jpg
C'mon guys:-(
So is it grey from bootup till it gets to the rom or can you see your boot splash screen and whatnot?

Yes, when I boot it up it's grey, I notice that it's still working because I get the bootup noise. So I can see nothing. But what I noticed is that the grey screen gets a kinda bluegrey screen while the cyanogenmod7 boot animation(the loop)
Sounds like a hardware issue to me, I'd send it in for warranty if I could. Plus, with your screen being the issue I doubt they would check for something like S-off or anything like that
sounds to me like the ribbon cable for the screen has either broken or not placed in its socket properly, does it make a difference when the keyboard is open? try opening it and closing it a few times... watch the screen. otherwise it could be a fault with the screen board or the screen itself
i would try and claim off warrenty or insurance
No it does no difference when the keybaord is open:-(
Problem at the whole thing is, that I have no warranty because I bought it at amazon.com
you either have to see how much htc will charge to repair it, or take it apart yourself and just check the cables... if any are loose then refit them... or buy a new screen, vga board and ribbon cable and fit it
How much would the last option cost?
And how much do you guys think HTC will chare to repair it?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OEM-SLIDE-FLE...944?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a10708cb8
something like that if its the ribbon cable.... but that gives you the whole kit
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Touch-Screen-...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item2a0fd454a5
thats the digitizer but i dont think youll need that but just in case
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-GENUINE-H...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item2eb3f529d0
thats the screen
but in fairness your better off taking it to a repair shop and getting a price... if you havnt got a warrenty then you dont have to worry about loosing one
Wow thanks, you're really helping me.
So I found a warranty document, since I bought it over amazon.com from another seller(mobilejoker) and it says that they'll repair me my device if it is defect and not my fault. But they also charge 40$ if it's an obvious damage made by myself. Well, I don't know, it wasn't my fault right? I mean it's not like it dropped in water or fell on the floor.
looks to me like its the ribbon cable or the vga board for the screen, as long as you havnt dropped it in liquid, on the ground or opened it up then it cant be your fault... id go with the warrenty first before you open it up
Hit the thanks button please matey
Done
And thanks again for your help.
alrite glad i could help, if you get stuck or if the warrenty doesnt work come back
hey guys I'm having a very similar issue on my phone, I bought a screen on ebay from a USA seller, as well as a flex cable cus both were damaged in my phone. I've got both of those installed and the phone boots up, gives off noises and vibrates like his did, but no video. Backlight lights up, but just black. I've been googling a lot and apparently the grey screen is just a precursor to what I have. Where exactly is the VGA board? is it on the main logic board? does it need a reflow like some laptop chipsets?
Hey guys I just thought I give you a quick update.
So I got my device back, it's working perfect and I didn't have to pay anything for it.
I'm just a bit confused, because my phone now is totally unrooted, and I always thought that root hurts your warranty.
Anyways, thanks for your help!!

Either they gave you a new phone or...
They replaced the screen (or samaged parts) and wiped or perhaps upgraded to newest stock.
Do you still have all your info and apps that were previously on it?
What version of android does it show in about, and which hboot do you have now?

volume rocker stopped working :|

Hi people,
I have a problem with my 2 week old Galaxy SII.
The day before yesterday rain got me outside and my SGS2 got a little moisted.
It was in a gel skin but some water got under the battery cover just on egdes.
The phone looks as new and works perfectly, despite today my volume rocker got crazy. It only increases the volume, but doesn't work opposite way. It "clicks" but doesn't do anything. -,-
Anyone had the same problem?

make sure there is no water inside(around the corners)
Remove the battery use a hair dryer around the phone with low power dont take it too close to the phone..Just do it around the corners for 3 to 5 min and then start the phone see if the key works..
The above experiment is totally un-tested and you are responsible for your own actions..
thanks, but didn't worked

well, it costs 100% surely if you say you caused it thats why i said it "just stopped working" evil twisted truth. remember that i didn't say this online
oh, just to make sure, unroot if rooted.
Mine isn't rooted and I didn't said no one it got (a bit) wet ;P just you know that.
I just asked my dealer "How come an 2 week old phone could failed?"
But really, all of my old phones got wet by a rain, few of them were in worse situations and they worked well . I even sinked my Nokia in puddle and it was fine.
btw. Did your phone also got wet? Or it just decided to stop working properly?

[Q] Screen Issues, Discolorization

So today I noticed my phone had a purple blotch on it and well I thought nothing of it until I saw more of it at the bottom and when I turn the brightness up it gets even worse all over the screen on my phone. I've found one other person with this issue and they hadn't received any help, so I'm coming to you guys to ask you as to whats going on with my screen. Some information as follows, I am using the RandomRom with gingerbread and the modem is EI22.
my phone is kinda doing the same thing..
but. I took my phone in because the screen wouldnt come on..
and when I got it back the screen colors was all messed up..
I asked them about it.. and they said thats how I Gave it to them..
which is a lie.. but I didnt want to give them my phone back for another 4 to 6 hours..
I plan on taking it back.. but right now I'm too lazy to unroot my phone and put it back to stock.. then give it to them for god knows how long..
people say my phone screen looks like a old school GameBoy Color screen..
right now I don't even notice it anymore.. I got use to it.
so when ever I do decide to get it fixed.. its gonna be like I got a brand new phone..
Right, so does anyone know why this happens?

Well I didn't overclock my phone, unless the ROM I installed did that itself.
So is this covered by Sprint for free? I can't exactly afford another replacement.
It's entirely pink now and the bottom itself is progressing to a darkish blue blotch and slowly replacing the pink.

Well I think we have insurance on the phone, but I'm going to run it into the store sometime this week. I'm gonna keep checking this thread though for any updated information. But on a short note... when I got this phone replaced, the left side of the screen could be pushed up more than the other side. In my experience of having this phone a few times it has never done that so I assume it's on the department stores part. But do you think it has anything to do with my issue of this funky screen?

Okay so here's an update I haven't had it replaced yet but the screen is now tinted blue with black coming from the bottom. I managed to bring my phone back to Stock EC05 after bricking it apparently. So the download mode triangle is stuck on the uh overlay of blue and the entire bottom is basically black.

Blow very gently into the charging port. You will need to put your lips there to get a seal, but don't slobber all over it. A good fix when you are out in the world but I suspect the fridge option is better in the long run due to moisture.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA App
Permanent enough to not be annoying. You might have to do it every few months at the most.
i solved mine by putting a few layer of folded paper abt 2" x 0.5" at the back, middle, abt an inch or two of the top. you got to experiment the placement as well as the thickness of the folded paper yourself. too much then it will make it worst, too little and it wont make a diff. then i snap it back into the original book case folder. this force the tablet to bend upwards a little in the middle and i no longer have the oil stain. but it does once its out of the case. i consider my solution sort of "permanent" for me...
As far as I know, there's no "permanent" solution except sending it in. If I was you I'd just deal with it for the days you're out and send it in when you have time (it's what I did). Unless yours is way worse than most, you can't see it when it's turned on (maybe if you're really looking for it). BTW- they stopped using the defective screens at least 3 or 4 months ago; I'm surprised you got one that has it. Was it new or used when you bought it? In case you're curious, Samsung never asked me for proof of purchase, so if you're worried about second-hand purchase not having a warranty, I'm pretty sure they'll fix it no matter what...
*Look at that. A mod edited my post. Good to see there's actually mods here; bummer all you do is edit posts that are critical of the mods instead of real moderation (stickies, deleting and merging duplicative threads; editing badly-written post titles; generally making the site and the search function more useful....).
Service Center
Just send it to the service center
Mine was really bad, it took up a huge portion of the screen, but you could only see it from an angle not when looking directly at it. I bit the bullet, called Samsung. The service lady was very nice, problem was immediately acknowledged , no questions asked , just the serial number info. I had it back in less than two weeks. Very glad I sent it it! Oh, back up your data! Mine came back factory restored. Just do it! The rings will come back even after putting it in the fridge!

galactic FORCE!
I got my tab back in August 2011. I've always been able to generate these rings by pressing hard on the screen, but they would eventually fade away after a few seconds on their own.
Yesterday, for the first time, the rings stayed. After a while, I was able to bend/press/smear them away, but this has me worried. Now, the rings appear with just slight pressure on the screen.
Should I wait until it gets worse? Maybe I should just call and request to send it in as Samsung seems to be replacing them no questions asked? I'd love to just get this new and improved screen you guys are talking about.
Sending it to the service center is painless and it'll be back into your hands in less than 10 calendar days.
Or you can just live with it. For the most part you can't see it when you're using the Tab. I lived with it for 6 months before deciding to send it in. Then I kicked myself for not sending it in sooner.
You think I can request a repair even if the rings, for the time being, go away on their own? Will they only take it in if they are "stuck" on the screen and only a certain area in size?

I did. Some days they were there, sometimes not. I called and they immediately acknowledged the problem and sent me an RMA. I don't think the repair person even checks. They just replace the screen.
Awesome. Thanks for the info.

Absolutely. It's a known problem; they shouldn't even give you any trouble if you call it "newton rings" (don't call it oil spot or water or they'll think it was your fault). One other bit I should have mentioned: most of the screens that got the problem did not have a logo on them. The ones they're replacing them with say "samsung" on the bottom. It's better than having the rings, but I do miss my logo free slate...
I do not have the logo. Hmmm, I don't know how I feel about this. Where is the logo? Is it on the long edge or the short edge? I use my tab 100% landscape.
Mine has the logo on the bottom long edge, centered. I actually like having it because when someone asks me if it's an iPad I just point to the logo.
Thinking about calling. Is there a special phone number in the USA for these Newton Ring cases? Or just use the 800-726-7864 number on their support page?
