Pink Galaxy Note with ICS (4.0) out today! - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Friends,
Just saw that Samsung confirmed the release of New Pink Galaxy Note, with android 4.0 ICS . Does that mean, android 4.0 ics is finally officially out today or tomorrow? Sounds exciting!
http://www.gsmarena.com/pink_samsung_galaxy_note_goes_on_sale_in_south_korea-news-4072.php
and
http://www.theverge.com/2012/4/9/2935418/pink-samsung-galaxy-note-korea-available-today
Along with the phone you get a matching pink S-Pen and a folding case. Interestingly, though, the phone is running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, as can be seen by the look of that Google Search widget and notification bar. The current Galaxy Note devices, as we know, are slated to get the update sometime this quarter with a special Premium Suite of apps - gsmarena.com

Damn i hope so ....KEEP YOU FINGER CROSSED....

That girl displaying it looks very tasty.....and erm to keep on topic gotta be a good sign ICS will be out soon enough!

if the phone's screen is not a sticker then it is actually ICS , android 4.0 !!!!!!
but what is that supposed to mean

Are the majority of galaxy note owners girls?
I'm wondering because samsung's note commercials, even apps target female population (cutting out shoes in commercials, fingernail painter, makeup app...).
Kinda strange as it's such a huge phone

I think they are making a big push towards females for this phone. Mainly because males are going to be more interested at first glance. Females may not at first since most females have smaller frames/hands. It makes sense that they would have more of a push towards females to maximize sales. The Dell Streak had almost no advertising and I don't recall many females buying it. At least not on here. There might be some, but not many. I think that Note sales are stronger for this. The S pen makes it more enjoyable to use with 2 hands instead of thinking, "ugh I always have to use 2 hands". The idea is that if they can show that females with smaller hands can use it, and enjoy it, then anybody can.
This isn't really based on any real numbers or anything. The just a guess and opinion. I'm quite possibly wrong.

I have met 4 galaxy note users in New Delhi, and all of them are females
The guys seem to be kinda scared for big phones , which is kinda strange haha

Here in Singapore, I've seen slightly more female owners than male. Most of the guys who have seen my phone say "So big? It's not pocketable!" Perhaps Asian guys generally smaller built and hence have pants with smaller pockets.

Valid point.
I got it as soon as I saw 5.3" + stylus, they didn't have to convince me a lot to move from sgs2 to the note

Someone in the main ICS thread (HINT!) pointed out that the Korean Note is actually different form the N7000.

I guess it is the chinese/korean version again. But if it was released we would have firmware already in this very forum.

Sales still rocketing on. Will it be enough to get proper support?

I was very pleased to read this-
http://www.gsmarena.com/200000_samsung_glaxy_s_phones_sold_in_south_korea_in_10_days-news-1786.php
Considering the fact that stocks sell off like hot scones in the UK and there are even shortages, and the fact that the device is selling well in the U.S even before carrier-based versions started selling, i see a bright future for the Galaxy S platform.
If in south korea alone it sold 200,000 , and in the UK Clove, Expansys and Handtec had severe shortages untill several days ago, i'm guessing it already sold over 300-350K worldwide.
Again, even before carriers around the world started marketing it.
Now i want to see what happens after carriers around the world start selling it, if these kinds of numbers will continue to flow in, i think it's close to impossible that samsung won't support it for a prolonged period.
Share your 2 cents, i'm having great expectations right now.

^ Yeah, I lol at that one.
But OP, your right. This is Samsung's all out effort to gain marketshare in the smartphone area. They are #2 when it comes to feature phones (dumb phones). However, in smartphone market, they are #4 or 5. In fact, last quarter they LOST market share. Analysts have projected that in a few years, the majority of phones sold will be smartphones, so it is imperative for Samsung to gain market share and win over customers. You can not do that with products that are unsupported. I bet they got a wake up call when HTC came out of no where and gained market share quicker then Samsung did. In fact HTC (which is very small company compared to Samsung), has a greater market share than the big ol Samsung. They know for a fact that with increased relations with developers, that their handsets have gained sales. Samsung created an open source distribution website where source codes for most of their products have been released since April of this year. So that is a good positive step in the right direction. Also, we all know Samsung makes great hardware, however their software side has been less stellar. Its beginning to be changed as more money and resources are pouring into the software side.(Bada, new R&D center in India devoted to software, new emphasis by corporate to focus more money in software etc).
I hope we are right.
As far as I can see, Samsung is winning customers over HTC right now. I am one of those, and I spotted many others in the forums.
IMO the point is that HTC's success has been largely undeserved, but rather based on the efforts of people here on XDA; on the contrary, it looks like they did everything they could to make people run away screaming. Despite all the work that has been done, even developers on XDA have never found a way to get a performance from, say, the Touch HD that could at least be called acceptable, if you look at the specs. Marketing a device as the "ultimate multimedia experience" and then selling it without proper drivers, is just pure BS. And this incredible problem affected an entire range of products for at least two years.
So, I would say, HTC should be paying a much higher price than they are, for their behaviour... we'll see in the next few months. I know I sound harsh but I seriously hope they lose it. Samsung FTW
OP needs to change his topic to something less misleading. When i first glance your "bright spot" made me thought that the new phones have some defect in the screen.
I thought your post was to say that samsung sold many phones with defective "bright spots" on their screens.

And now can someone please translate AndroHero's post for me? i'm having trouble trying to discern what language is that.
Anyways, now that samsung is selling masses of their flagship phone, they have to be completely retarded to not support it properly. It would be equevilant to commiting suicide.
Also, it sold a lot on their "home court", if samsung will let even koreans down, their cellular department is going to take a major hit.

Hello,
Here is a little article about samsung vs apple, there is a nice section about production lines.
It's a Korean article transleted into English.
[too bad I'm new and can't post a link] To those still interested by the article, you can google search "askakorean apple vs samsung" first article!
It's maybe a bit out of context, but since you were talking about shortages.
If someone would be nice enough to post the link so it's easier for everybody

Interesting to read someones opinion, but that's all it is. My other half is Korean, and she, like I work in the electronics industry and we're both intimately aware of how Korean giants like Samsung operate, the key element in the Galaxy S isnt rapid turn around, its a change in corporate policy towards the design of the phone, by involving hundreds of potential users in the development stages.
I also disagree with his premise that the iPhone 4 is a 'great' product. I've had a play with an iPhone 4 and I think it suffers from Form over Function. It's actually a little uncomfortable in the hand. It may be made from glass and steel and look great, but such hard materials with squared off edges and profiles doesn't sit right in your hand.
The objects we most commonly hold in our hands are cups/mugs, pens and computer mice. They're rounded and softened, ok household mugs are ceramic from a practical materials aspect, but even a travel mug has a rubberized grip.
I just don't get the hysteria over the IP4, when I look at it I do see a photogenic object, but I also see a design fail.
Leaving the comfortability issue aside, i'm bothered by the durability aspect.
Using superhardened glass may be good against scratches, but without a shock absorbing frame of some sort, the harder the galss- the more prone to shattering it will be, and harder glass shatters more catastrophically.
"regular" hardness glass usually gets cracks or little shattered points.
Superhardened galss- it's "all or nothing". Either nothing hapeens, or it shatters completely.
Deciding to put the glass ON the frame instead of IN the frame (like previous iPhones) was a much bigger design flaw than the less-round corners IMO.
I'm hearing a lott of buzz about samsung using mostly plastic, and how "inappropreate" it is for a super high-end device, but from a pratical viewpoint-
It's durable, it's cheap and easy to replace it's comfortable, and it doesn't block reception as much as more expensive materials.
Indeed, my BlackBerry is plastic, and that's never been an issue.

pls! giv me some suggestion

samsung just announced that both of their tab will be released on early SUMMER n june 8 means i have to wait till june for buying anyone?
i m fed up of waiting, so i 'd like to ask xoom users, are xoom worth to buy? wat is it's bad?
If you have decided on buy an Android tablet, I don't see any reason why Galaxy tab's will be better than Xoom...
I can't see any negative to Xoom when you compare Galaxy tabs, but there are a few benefits,
Xoom comes with vanilla honeycomb which is million times better than any other 'skins'. Also you will get updates much faster and don't have to wait for Samsung to port it.
Look wise I like the Xoom..
I read an article yesterday that stated samsung is using a custom honeycomb UI so I lost interest immediately when I read that. I enjoy my xoom and I will stick with it at this point. I have also read that it feels like cheap plastic, which is another huge drawback in my opinion. To me a better screen isn't worth molested android, especially a version that is not only buggy and incomplete, but also total revamp of the whole UI, I foresee samsung screwing it up with a laggy interface as usual.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
The thread should be merged with this one. Maybe you'll find more inspiration there.
btw, last time i watched a review and it said that "the marketplace need an update to view all apps". does the marketplace updated now n can view all of the apps?
I would go with the Google Experience device. Chances are you will receive updates more frequently on the Xoom than the Galaxy 10.1. Plus TouchWiz is on this thing according to Engadget. Not sure I would want that screwing up my Honeycomb greatness!

Well any tablet when held long enough will feel heavy. Depends on how comfortable you are holding the tablet and how strong your arms and wrists and fingers are haha..
Perhaps you can try holding a book of similar weight and see if you can stand it.
thx for everyone =)
but i just read about ppl said xoom will be sstop producing on june.
will this cause it lacks of accessories n software update in the future? is this true?
I read that the TouchWiz 4.0 is not deeply integrated into the Honeycomb (find the CNET article about this).
They are just bunch of apps and widgets. Even the 10.1 will be launched first as stock, which users can (or forced) to download the TouchWiz 4.0 via update.
I am not too worried with this TouchWiz thing, because XDA devs will root and we will be able to install custom ROM "anyway" Unless the bootloader is LOCKED and encrypted (like Motorola phones), history said Samsung has never done that.
So, I am now OK with this TouchWiz. From what I look in the hands-on video, it is still Honeycomb.
And also, living in Europe, Samsung gave updates to their phones here
So yeah, pretty much covered about the update.
I really like the hardware profile of this Samsung 8.9"
- Lighter at 470 gram versus 725 gram of Xoom.
- Thinner at 8.6"
- especially the PLS screen which is even better than the IPS of iPad2, no contest with Xoom in this area.

weight of xoom
im pretty sure that metal weighs more than plastic, so as far as how heavy it is....
i mean, c'mon..think outside the box people.
btw..my xoom is freakin awesome, and had a apple guy convert from ipad to xoom this past week. freakin sweet.

My thoughts exactly.
The history of Samsung updating their products is enough for me to say no thank you to any Android device they make. The only time I would consider is something like the Nexus S - stock Android with no Sense/Blur/Touchwiz and gets updates first.
Furthermore, am I the only one that cringes a little when you see/hear/read the word "Touchwiz"? Sounds like Touchjizz to me. Just sounds like a really cheesy name for a skin.
I honestly don't understand what everyone is up in arms about the weight of the Xoom is. Either get a dock or portfolio that can prop it up or lift some weights. Like 2 lb weights because the friggin Xoom weighs even less than that!
Sure, anything gets heavy after a while. But I have yet to run into a situation where I'm fatigued from messing with the Xoom. Honestly, the weight difference between any tablets shouldn't be an issue, unless it's half/double the weight of something (or something else extreme). I like the way the back feels. Sometimes it seems like people just want to find something else to criticize.

Using the note as a handheld phone in public

Since people love to talk about this, I thought a formal comment thread on this topic would be nice.
I was at the marathon today, and with everyone around, I made a very big deal of using the phone in public.
For example, I was using the GPS on my phone and walking around with it in my hand, so I would often hold it to my head and pretend to talk on it, and see if anyone cared. If someone happened to be looking at me, or in my direction, I might look at my phone and then pretend to talk about it.
I'd kind of turn away so they could see what I'm doing, then turn back a little so I can glance at them and see their reaction.
It was brutal. People were running away, Women were screaming, and children were bursting into tears. Someone called the mod squad and I got jailed for causing a public disruption.
Okay, I'm lying. The reality is not one person seemed to care. Seriously. Not one person.
When you hold the phone, I assume the phone is centered in your hand so you don't drop it. That means, for me, two thirds of the phone is covered by my hand. The rest kinda just looks like a shadow. I suppose a white phone would be more noticable.
It's just not an issue, folks. Although, this is new york, and we get everything.
I have always suspected that people will, at first glance, consider it a very unimpressive tablet and immediately lose interest in what you are doing with it.

yeah i think ppl are started to get used to see bigger and bigger screen phone. i dont see anyone seem to bother or care what i am using againt my ear lol
I honestly don't understand why people are making a big deal of talking on this phone, especially compared to other methods. Mind you, I haven't gotten my Note yet, but I would think that it would just be a "Hm, that's a large phone" kind of thing more so than a "why is that guy holding an iPad to his head" kind of thing.
Also, I would rather talk with a large phone to my head than one of the small bluetooth headsets that are popular nowadays, as at least with the big phone its obvious you're on the phone versus the headset which is so small that it looks like you're one of those crazy hobos you see downtown talking to themselves.
On a side note, I am downright astonished that a phone this powerful puts out less of a SAR than the iPhone - 0.16 W/kg vs the iPhone 4's 1.18. Thanks to the lower SAR I'm actually looking forward to swapping to the Note, as my iPhone makes my head feel funny after a few minutes of calling.

Same, I've been a Streak user since Aug of last year, and the Streak is actually longer than the Note, but the Note is a tad wider. My close friends all had a giggle and when new coworkers see it they go "whoa what's that?" but it makes having a niche huge freaking phone fun. If that bugs people, the should probably just get the Galaxy Nexus which is .6" smaller with the same Super AMOLED HD screen. (well 720 vs 800 pixels on the smaller axis, but very close). It's never been a big deal at all, and it fits in all my jeans pockets, though I'm tall (6'3").
For me, the response has changed a little from when I carried the Streak. The SGN actually LOOKS more like a phone than the Streak--probably because the Streak had no visible protruding buttons...People used to say "Is that a PHONE?!!??!"
Now it's..."WOW! That's a big EFIN phone!"
i don't think anyone around really pays enough attention to care that it's an inch or so bigger than a GS2 ... my gf told me i'd look like a dweeb, but i barely take into account what she says anyway lol

The Note is tiddly! Seriously. I spent a good chunk of the last 12 months using my Galaxy Tab 7" as a phone/tablet. Now that is big, and I didn't get arrested once, no matter how I tried .
The Note is a stunted cousin in comparison. No big deal. The ones to mock are those using tiny 3.5" screens as a "smartphone" .
Like I give a rat's ass what other people think about my phone. I wish a MF would say something smart about my Dell Streak or Galaxy Note. They gonna get their feelings hurt messing around with me, lol.
I haven't noticed anyone staring at me when I'm on a call with the Note, but when I sit down and put it on the table in company, it gets everyone's attention and is overwhelmingly positive.
Only one person, after playing with it, said, "To Big".
Mostly people were in awe of the big vivid screen and interested in the s-pen and usually dropped off when I tried to impress them with the specs of dual processor this and GPS satelites that.

and i think, taking into account what it has on the hardware side, it IS pretty slim

And ,s3, I think was made to attract gay and woman population... Curvy, nature, feelings, feminine side,..

four words UGLY...
Doesnt look so different from Galaxy Nexus when looking side to side, so I dont really get the hate of it being ugly. In my case, depends on how the US version is compared to the International. If they give the US the ugly 4 button thing again, im going to be looking at apple for my next phone.

Amazing how many people do no know about the Note

I run into people all the time who see my phone and have no idea what it is or even that it's a phone readily available from ATT here in the US.
They have no idea. Most people actually like it and want one. A handful think its HUGE. I am so used to it don;t find it big. I find the iPhone and my SGS2 extremily small now.
It appears Samsung really doesn't push this phone like they did the S2 and now s3.
I am beginning to wonder whether or not a "Note II" will be released.
Anyone have the same experience when other's see their phone?
Yep here the same, a lot of ppl i met did not know that device here in Germany as well. 10% think its to huge but i tell them in even 3 days after i got my SGN i never touched my other SGS1 and SGS2 incl. the SGT7
Well first of all remember that 80% of the population barely pays any attention to gadgets. So it's not suprising that a relatively new device like the Note is still not well known. I guess it also depends on the level of promotion. Samsung ran the Superbowl ad but I don't know how heavily advertised it's been after that.
In India the Galaxy Note has been massively promoted right from the start, something which surprised me at first. However it's been a big success and even regular people seem to be aware of it. Whenever I show it to people, the reaction is generally very positive.
I don't think there is any question that the Note has been a big global success. I think there will be another massive round of promotion around the Olympics and I will be surprised if sales are less than 10 million at the one year mark.
There will definitely be a Note 2 though possibly it may not come this year. There isn't much serious competition yet in this category and Samsung may decide that the Note will continue to sell well. In that case they may postpone the Note 2 to sometime next year when they could ship with Jelly Bean. My guess though, is that the Note 2 willl be released around November this year.
yeah in India, Samsung has done proper marketing for this phone. It has sold well too. I see a huge number of people using it here..
Most people I meet, just look on and are surprised GNote fits in my standard trouser pockets! Confused with a 7" tab.
Hi all. I really hope that a Note II comes along. I'm absolutely loving my GNote. The size is perfect!! I'm from Trinidad and the reactions that I've had have been split 50-50. For everyone that wants one, someone else thinks it's massive and they wonder....how can that fit in your pocket?!? Silly question really...standard pockets have ample room for the GNote. Unless you're a chick....or a guy who's metro or something....
Here in the Netherlands there is an amazing amount of people who have the Note.
I see them literally everywhere.
Sammy has advertised a lot on T.V. and bus stops.
It's unbelievable, they keep popping up.
Although it is a device not so hard to miss right
In Malaysia, Samsung did a great promotion. My company have around 40 staff, we have 7 staff using galaxy note including myself.

I just went to thailand and there is a ginormous billboard ad for the note outside the Bangkok airport.

People who say that Note is too large, do not have it :d
Everybody is a comedian these days
There was a report of 250.000.000 note sized phones by 2015. I guess it will be the note 4 by then. Apparently from more manufacturers.

That's so true I'm also the only one in my surrounding who has a Note and they all make fun of me.. "Whoah you bought yourself a boat!"
It's sad that the advertising for the Note hasn't been that big in our country.. people don't even know what it is & that's a damn shame.
it takes a special sort of person to have a note - it is so large that it is a statement about your confidence and knowledge of technology
i look upon those with smaller devices with pity
and i drop change for people with a windows phone...

I bought one because one of my collegues just bought one, I was damn impressed and the Note is just what I needed.
But they do make fun of it indeed, at bars they ask me why I brought my laptop.
I mostly answer that I can't afford glasses or an iPhone.
