Hello everyone, I had recently changed ROM to my defy and I have only one problem.
The thing is that I can't connect to my wifi network at home, keeps waiting for "ip address" and then go back to search wifi networks, and again it tries to connect with no result waiting for ip address...
before I changed the ROM I wasn't with any issues of that kind... any help how can I fix it pls?
regards.

Go to settings>wireless and networks>wifisettings> press menu button > advanced > Check enable auto IP. If that do not work than check 'Use static IP' and type in the IP that your router would broadcast to... (There is a range of IPs normally)

That's the first thing I did... but I have already "fixed" the problem.
I changed the wifi encryptation from WEP to WPA/PSK and it connected almost inmediatly
it seems that the problem is on the ROM
ty for the answer
Greetings

I have this issue as well when I try to connect WEP wifi based and failed. But after some persistent try it did connected at last.

Connected to a working wi-fi but having no connection

I have this problem whit my milestone 2:
when IConnect it to a working wi-fi it have no real connection.
it's new, I bought it 2 days ago.
I must to send it back for a sostitution or there is a soft way to fix this problem?
please help me!
I herd of wlan issues which some MS have. You probably have to go back to a störe and exchange ur device for another one.

ok, so the problem is an hardware problem? not a software one? I try a lot of wifi and I saw that only whit wpa-psk it's bugged (at my home I have that one...).
is there any method to understand if is an hardware problem? becouse I have buy it on expansys, and I prefer to not change the device if the new one will have the same problem.
thank you a lot!
skaburn, I have had an issue when using the router WPS, PIN or push to connect method as well. The connection was successful but no data flow so I had to manually connect and use the WPAx phrase and all was good ...
where can I entere my wpa phrase?

1. Navigate to: Settings->Wireless & Network Settings->Wi-Fi Settings
2. If you have the network SSID remembered then press and hold the entry until the popup menu appears and press forget network.
3. Press add network and enter the network SSID and press the security combobox and select the correct encryption/authorisation protocol.
4. Enter the password/passphrase and press save.
One other issue I remember was that my wifi router/cable model had the WiFi channel set to auto and it supported 13 channels. The Milestone 2 supports 1 to 11 channels so I manually set them both to 11 (can be any clear channel) just incase there was a problem with the auto-negotiation between the router and the phone.
Ok, thanks a lot, when i try I will share my result.
(Sorry for bad English)

edit:
thank you a lot! whit manual add of wifi, it doesn't work too
but whit the second way the problem is seems to be fixed!
I don't understand only one thing, i had to change the channel of peer to peer connection on 11, but the peer to peer connection is for a router? I thought that it is for a direct connection whit another device..
thank you again..
edit2: -.- connection failed! data still not pass on wifi! it seems to work, but after 5 minutes it doesn't send no more data....
Seems to be a common problem, lots of complaints on the Motorola Forums aswell... I have the same problem.
https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/41656
@shellite:
yes, I saw but there is no way to fix? I found on motorola support only problem report, not fix..
To my knowledge, after much scrounging, no fix exists and Motorola will not acknowledge that there is an issue.

Wifi Connected but no Internet

Hi Guys, I have an interesting problem with my DHD..
My phone is showing that it is connected to my WiFi router (Orange Livebox [UK]):
Status: Connected
Speed: 48Mbps
Signal Strength: Excellent
Security: WPA/WPA2 PSK
IP address: 192.168.1.253
The wifi logo is present on the notification bar (but only showing 1 bar interestingly).
However, there is no internet access to the phone. I am unable to load any webpages in the browser, access the android market, or use any other app requiring internet access.
The wifi works perfectly fine on other networks at friends and public places.
I am currently running the Stock UK rom with no modifications, system is non-rooted.
I would appreciate any assistance on the matter, and if anyone can suggest a solution.
Thanks in advance!
Is MAC address restrict mode activated in your router?
Then add the MAC address of the HTC to the allow list in the router.
Just delete the apn settings and add it again. This fix my issue.

I also experienced wifi problems with my stock rom before flashing to the actual crom (leedroid). I had problems like you a few times, but also sometimes couldn't even get the wifi to connect (wifi on but no successful connection).
Never found out why, but runs perfect since using custom rom.

to fix this, i went into wifi settings, click menu, advanced, and untick use static IP. turn off phone and turn on again. did this help?
Unlike a PC, Android doesn't seem to notice when the WIFI network is local only . Dumb maybe, but check with a laptop, if your WIFI isn't local only...

Wifi obtaining ip address....

My Wifi connected to my home router perfectly until I flashed the custom rom.
Now it wont work. the phone recognizes my network, then tries to connect but it pauses at the obtaining ip address bit and doesn't connect?
I tried to restart the router. It doesn't work.
I tried to reflash the rom or offical rom (KE7). It doesn't work.
I also tried to delete the file /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list, but there are no "dhcp_list" file inside 'dhcp'
Do anyone have another way to solve this problem?
Thanks
Could be a problem with the router, are other devices able to acquire IP addresses from it correctly?
Perhaps you should assign a static IP to see if that makes a difference.
I am on KE7 stock rom with root and had this problem too. It just started yesterday and got stuck at obtaining ip adress. So I switched WIFI off and flight mode on and after some seconds wifi on and flight mode off and it connected. I also noticed that now sometimes when it is in standby it disconnects from the wifi network (but wifi is still ON) and when I wake it up it connects to my network.
Me too, same problem.
If wifi is ruled on "sleep when screen turn off", it don't wake when screen turn on.
It stay on " searching for IP adress...".
For the moment, I'm forced to leave wifi on "never" and I use Juice defender for disabling wifi on screen off.
I really think it's a common pb with SGS 2. May be it will be fixed with 2.3.4.
Same problem. I 'fix' it by turning off wifi then turning it back on and it gets an IP address immediately.
same problem here with a dlink dir-615 router. from time to time the phone can't get an ip, and it only works if i reboot the router. didn't try with another router yet ( well, i connected to a few more but not frequent so i can see if there are problems), but i ordered a new one anyways since the dlink also crushes my battery too.
try posting the brand/model of the router you have problems with, maybe there's some specific ones that are troublesome.
d-link dir-615 here / ke7 stock - rooted
I also have a dlink router. But I get the same problem with a Belkin.
With my first SGS, no problem. I really think it's a specific issue on SGS2.
I'd read in some place that 2.3.4 will fix some wifi problem known for the moment on 2.3.3...
Let's see...
I'm seeing this with both my home router (Netgear WNDR3700) and my office router. Disabling & re-enabling WiFi on the SGS2 solves it -- fortunately, it's easily accessible on the notifications panel.
Same thing with Dlink dir 815.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Same thing here with Draytek 2820 router, all other devices (PC's Phones, PDA's etc) have no problem. SGS2 however needs WiFi turning off when waking from sleep to get it to obtain an IP address again. However my HD2 also running Gingerbread 2.3.3 works faultlessly.
KF2 seems, for me and some others, fix the problem...
hi
lucky me, i thought im the only 1 having problem with wifi
my problem, same as the others
the wifi try to connect (obtaining IP) and then disconnected
it will scan again, same thing will happened
try with all type of protocols, wifi b,g,n wep, wpa, no passwd
results still same
try to connect wifi at my office, results also the same
im on KF1 using dlink 615
hopefully someone can help us
tq
Just got my Galaxy S2 today. Cannot connect to wifi network on G or mixed mode, with or without security - just tries to obtain an IP address. Ridiculous.
Any help ? Quick search on Google doesn't bring up too much. There does seem to be an app called "FXR Wifi" but I don't expect to use that on a brand new phone.
Update: Upgraded my router's firmware (WRT54GS) and it works !
I have the same problem with my SGS 2. I can't connect to an AP - NETGEAR DG834G.
I found a partial solution to use my phone with my AP until I solve the problem. In the Wi-Fi settings menu enter Advanced mod and set the IP address, Gateway, Netmask, DNS1 manualy (by touching <Use static IP>). If you don't know what IPs you have to set for IP address, Gateway, etc. just connect with you laptop or desktop and use the settings from your computer. Just make sure you type a different IP address in your mobile (not the one from your computer - for example in you computer you'll find something like this: 192.168.0.3, you'll have to type in your mobile something like this: 192.168.0.10). The rest of the settings have to be identical.
Good luck!
To solve this "obtaining ip address problem". Set the following manually in the advanced configuration and save it.
1. ip address(your choice).
2. subnet mask(255.255.255.0).
3. default gateway(192.168.1.1).
4. dns servers(8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4)
Note: The above given values are the most commonly used, you change it if you want so.
After entering these values manually(and correctly), it will connect to the networ in 1 or 2 seconds.
like mine SG s2, wifi connects works perfectly at home and friends place,
but stucks at obtaining ipaddress for wifi, at the mall and college, ( where it needs first login page for authentication) ( or to agree user terms and regulation),
any idea, how to fix this issue.
Thanks
mine also does this where it doesn't get an ip. Reboot your router or just disable and re-enable the access point feature on the router and it should work without having to reboot it

[Solved] Wifi doesn't reconnect after resuming from standby

My TF (Stock 3.1) has an annoying problem that I've just stumbled upon.
If I set the wifi to disconnect on sleep and reconnect when powered back on, the Wifi will not connect. Just gets stuck on aquiring network address.
If I set it to always on, it never has any trouble. Connects in an instant.
I tried leaving wifi On and rebooted the router and it connected as soon as the router was ready. I also switched it to wifi off and then on and it connected straightaway. Take it out of wifi zone and back again and connects perfectly.
Never lost/dropped a connection before. Though I'd enable the sleep feature to save some battery while I'm at work or at night.
I'm not sure if this is unique to me.
Had the same issues. I had to set my ip to static on the TF. This will resolve the issue you're having.
Had the issue only once. Had to turn off/on the wifi. I think is an android problem because my Motorola atrix has the same issue.

go into you wifi setting. locate your ssid and click on it till you see modify. scroll.down to change from dhcp to.static
i don`t find that menue in the TF
yeah i dont have that option
It confused me at first as well.. locate your SSID and select the option to forget all the information. Then when you attempt to connect again you should see it there.
HTH.

see i dont even have the option. in the wireless& networks > wi-fi settings, there is no option for ssid. the only option is an icon at the top right of the screen that says "scan" or "advanced". in the advanced section, it gives me IP and MAC addresses. nothing gives me an option to obtain ssid information. i wonder if the american version of the tab is different.

Okay Go into Wi-FI setting, Under WiFi network setting find your wifi network (name of your network) which should be the first one at the very top. Hold down on your wifi network and you should see a "modify network" option. Select that. Then you want to scroll up. You should then see "IP setting", change DHCP to Static. SSID is the name of your wifi network.

Can't connect to wifi - "avoided poor internet connection"

I've been having problems trying to connect my friend's Nexus 7 (32Gb) to my home wifi. I tried 4 (yes 4) wireless routers, and it refused to connect to any of them. It would prompt for my (WPA2) login credentials, then spend a few minutes trying to connect, then give up and try another access point. It would mark the AP just tried as "avoided poor internet connection".
The routers I tried were:
- Belkin Play Max N600 HD
- Buffalo WHR-G54S
- Draytek Vigor 2920n
- O2 Broadband wireless box 5
The signal strength from all of them was shown as excellent. I tried the O2 wireless box with WEP encryption instead of WPA2 and that didn't help.
I was able to connect both a Samsung Q330 laptop and a Galaxy S3 to all of these routers, so they all appear to be working fine.
As I'm shortly planning to buy a Nexus 7 I'm keen to understand what sort of problem might stop it connecting to my routers!
Any ideas?

Hi,
I have the same issue and i foud that it is due to the inferior frequency of my router wich is 2.4ghz.
so i you did found a solution please share it,thanks in advance.

All routers use 2.4 GHz unless they are branded/advertised as being 5 GHz. The Nexus doesn't even support 5 GHz. The warning is more about the actual internet connection anyway. As for removing this warning, you can easily disable it under advanced WiFi settings.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
I subsequently acquired my own Nexus 7 and had no problem connecting it all of the routers that my friend's Nexus 7 wouldn't connect to. I'm guessing that I was running a newer ROM. I still have no idea why my friend's unit wouldn't connect
Your friend should return his faulty N7 for a replacement.
If you can access the router, do a reset or reboot, sometimes a refresh would get the "hand shaking" working again, switch to an alternate wireless channel as it could be interference from other nearby routers.
after some research i found this .
and for the "avoid poor internet connection" in the advanced menu ,in 4.1.1 the is no such option in the menu .

SOLUTION
Figured it out...go to the WiFi settings, hit the menu key and choose "Advanced", and uncheck "Avoid poor connections".
There are lots of android phones without the above mentioned option(The place where you can uncheck your "Avoid poor connections" )
If you're in that case I've got an alternate for you
1. run command prompt and type ipconfig
2. note down your ip address
3. now what you do is change the last digits after the last point and give the command
ping 192.168.1.xx(changing the last digit or last two digits)
it'll say pinging and BLAH BLAH BLAH
It'll give details about the sent and received packets of data
And also LOST packets
NOTE: If the lost =0( 0 % lost)
4. Then note down the ip address which you've given after the command ping **192.168.1.xx**
if the lost= (100 % lost) or may be some other percentage of lost... it means there is some loss of data packets
so never note down that..... repeat the process 3. changing the last digits of your ip address
5. Now once the lost percentage is 0 %
6. go to settings->Wi-Fi-> And long press the network to which you wanna connect your device
7. Choose modify network
8. Enter the password(If there is any and do not press save)
9. Enable show Advanced options
10. Change the ip settings to static
11. Enter the ip address which you've noted down in steps 3 & 4
12. Enter the noted ip address in the ip address
13. Also Enter the gateway address in the column below which you find from your cmd prompt giving the command ipconfig
14. The network prefix length ,DNS 1 And DNS 2 Will be automatically assigned
15. Now click Save
Thats it .......You're Done
incase if the Avoided poor connection occurs again repeat the steps from 6 till the end giving the same ip address which you've noted down
ENJOY ! ! ! ! !
I've fixed it
Hello.
I fixed this bug, it isn't poor conection... it is an error about dhcp server in the android 4.x
First you need to download and install ipconfig app from aptoide
So you need to try to conect to your network, while it is showing obtaining ip adress, you should go to ipconfig app (be as fast as posssible)
Finally you should find your ip number and your gateway, if you don't, click in refresh.
Now go to settings and long click into your network, so click in advenced settings and change dhcp to static IP, here are the recommended settings:
IP- get in ipconfig
Gateway- it will automatically set, the most used is 192.168.1.1
Prefix- 22 or 24
Subnet mask- 255.255.255.0
Dns1- 8.8.4.4
Dns2- 4.4.4.4 (no need to set)
I wanna develop an app to do it automacally, but I need help... I'm pretty noob, I've got only 14 years old
Edited: Oops, I didn't saw your solution, anyway it doesn't work on all routers cause some routers are set to another ip
I'm glad to help you
