I want to get a Atrix 4G - Atrix 4G General

So the question is... how is the performance... pro and cons of the phone... best rom and kernel
Please help xD
Sent from my Milestone XT720 using XDA

Performance is great in my opinion. I've only owned one android phone (Atrix) but I've used many before. A con for me is the screen size. I like the screen to be just a bit bigger but other people would argue its perfect. Pro is definitely fingerprint scanner. Its a pretty cool addition to just play around with and you can even use it as a sort of touchpad on Cyanogenmod ROMs. Best Blur ROM is definitely NottachTrix. It keeps Blur functionality and WebTop but doesn't sacrifice speed or any other cool mods. I love MIUI as well both the GB and ICS versions are great although the GB version has an audio bug which is a deal breaker for me. Jokersax's and Turl1's CM9 builds are great as well. As far as kernel goes use faux's kernel all the way. You can choose from a wide variety of clock speeds and most people have no issues with them.

And battery life? And there is available rom that have GPU UI rendering
Sent from my Milestone XT720 using XDA

Battery life is quite good, it has a 1930mah battery, which was the largest stock battery in an android phone before the RAZR Maxx came out. You can easily get through the day with heavy usage on a charge and two days if you don't use it much. However ROMs can heavily impact battery life.
As for GPU generated UI there's the Neutrino ROM. But honestly I believe GPU generated UI is a just marketing slogan.
The Atrix isn't top tier anymore but it's still pretty good and if you don't have enough cash for those quad core HD screen phone then go ahead and get it.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
To agree with others, battery life is great, although it was **** on 2.2 official, after 2.3 it was awesome. I am using CM9 unofficial now (they banned the use of the word KANG ). Performance is great on official moto builds and CM9 unofficial (kang), fingerprint sensor is nice (but doesn't work in any CM builds) and the screen is really nice and doesn't scratch (the Gorilla glass really works, I keep it in my pocket with change with not screen protector and the isn't a single scratch yet).
Cons:
Plasticy feeling back cover, which made me buy a cheap rubbery cover because it wasn't nice, and the camera is not great (although it doesn't work in portrait or for video in the jokersax CM9 roms anyway, and the videocamera doesn't work in any ICS roms).
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

How about the neutrino rom? Front cam work? and fingerprint work on that rom?
Can some share quadrants of that rom with OC 1.2ghz? And the heavys game that work without lag
Thanks

Camera now works on ics but yes neutrinos roms everything works if you not someone who likes to tinker with the system files of their cell go with neutrino intell ics has a official release and as far as performance gos the atrix is still the best OVERALL performance but the galexy s ll bets it in productivity only the atrix kills it in gameing I haven't had my atrix lag playing any games no matter how big and if you do run neutrino rom I suggest trying out fuax 1.6gz kearnel it'll blow you away with how fast and stable the atrix is.right now on my ics with a 1.45gz overclock I get almost a week on a charge and I barely but my cell down

Can't think of any game that lags even on the stock ROM of 2.3.6...running neutrino EE right now, front camera works on neutrino. Camera is fixed on the latest jokersax build, not sure about front cam or video on it though. Only con would be the plastic back I guess...and the screen which I prefer to be 4.3+ but this phone is still just a beast.

From your point of view yes, but we have to accept that it's better. But the Atrix kicks the Galaxy SII.

No. I was talking about the screen bright (Olympus vs Galaxy S II) S II wins in this. But when talking about other tasks the Olympus (Modded) wins.

When people compare phones, you gotta do it fairly. A stock GS2 will probably suck vs an overclocked Atrix running cm7. Its a different phone at that point.

Grats on the excellent joice of joining the ranks of Atrix users. The Atrix is a great phone I personally love the screen the qHd resolution is amazing. The amoled screens are nice and flashy with the colours but so many of them do not take full advantage of it because of low resolutions. The phone is a good size, not too big, but big enough to make you feel safe that it won't break on you. The performance, if you intend to go non stock (as you do) is amazing, and the battery life is great!

You can now secure you connection when using your internet connection on a laptop or wire less device.
You can now tweak more settings.

Silly but I like the battery info a lot better with the labeled graph. That's new, isn't it? Also, netflix, if you aren't boycotting it.

It adds framerate smoothness.
Has a garbage system in games.
TV CRT animation.
Those are basically the main features.
fancy green color in the status bar.
thats basically it.
I honestly didnt feel the difference coming from froyo to GB
the CRT thing is pretty cool, and green colors, yep. greep colors
multitasking is better on GB.

Honestly, for me atleast, depends what GB rom your running. I'm on Simply Honey 3.9 and I love it. I see no reason to stay on froyo unless you use your gps everyday.
Aside from the differences already mentioned above, the main reason why I won't be switching to froyo anymore (even without official GB release from samsung) is the app EQUALIZER...which works only when you're on GB
This makes the phone produce sound quality that trashes froyo anytime of the day. It even makes better sound than DSP manager IMHO And did I mention that the reverb feature is sweet?

..... seriously? ok so an "official" release of 2.3 "might" increase battery life. But for the current people running 2.3.4 (cm7, miui, simply Honey, revolution, etc) i doubt anyone is getting 50% better battery life over 2.2 least no one i have spoken to. Now thats not to say battery life itself is terrible. it's not, it's adaquate for the average user, and good enough to make 2.3.4 my daily driver, but i personally see about 8-10 hours LESS battery time with most 2.3 roms Vs Froyo stock. But the many other features in 2.3 is where it shines, UI smoothness, gpu and cpu optimization, better streamlining for flash implementation, and better customization options for the UI as a whole. but this is my take on 2.3.4 and i'm personally very satisfied even without my stable gps.

Anyone miss froyo?

I don't miss it enough to go back to it, but the battery life and app compatability were much better than ota GB and (don't flame me I know its prebeta) cm7. My fps stutters and battery drain issues are frustrating. And I also miss a functional juicedefender. Your thoughts?

If you look at the fruit cakes thread in the dev section there's a download for a CWM version of the retail french 2.2.2 ROM.
I see pros and cons of both on my SGS. Easier phone to try out GB on. Honestly I don't see the need to upgrade to GB on my Atrix.
Also all of my friends HATE the New Android Market! Previous version definitely blows it out of the water!
Thank goodness for the ability to freeze the updater...

I am running stock modded 2.3.4 and there are only two reasons why I miss Froyo:
major reason: performance drop in some game (e.g. Fruit Ninja)
minor reason: Froyo Motoblur was smoother than GB Motoblur
That said, my battery life on BG is great. (as good as on Froyo).
I think I might have to update my guide with more battery saving tips.
I like gingerbread more on my atrix . Never miss my froyo .
yes i also miss it a little bit , so if anyone has a stock froyo 2.2.2 cmw zip or backup and can post a link for download id be much appreciative .
I don't miss it in any way.
I got a goofy question for you guys on Gingerbread.
On my SGS using GB, I get a lot of "checkerboard" with pinch-to-zoom or fast scrolling in the stock "browser". None of this was really there, or even noticeable on Froyo.
Is the browser checkerboard thing more noticeable with "GB on the Atrix" vs Froyo too?...

Legendary Rom RC2 with the 3.0 samurai kernel......
And flash a theme if you'd like bells and whistles. 3.0 has cpu ocable to 1.5 and gpu oc'd to 300 or 250 or stock if you want and there's a fps unlock on two of them. My highest quad with the two was 4504 and the two compliment each other very well but you will get some opionated replies id say try em all and see which works best to your liking.

Legendary rom is what I'm running, stable, and everything works
Ever since I picked up my Epic at launch I've missed Cyanogen from my G1. While it isn't perfect in its current state I can't imagine using anything else. It's responsive, it's lean, and it extended my battery life by about four hours when I installed it. There's a list that doesn't work at the moment (911 emergency calls, 4G, several video codecs including Youtube HQ, video recording) but the things that work are fantastic.
I was about to jump to Verizon for a different device, but with the breath that Cyanogen gave my Epic I'm going to ride it out.
I've been using CleanGB since Build13, and have been loving the stability and battery life. I am currently running Build 17 with the Talkback Fix (which is, in effect, Build 18)...

My problem with change

I hate change. So, since I have worked on specializing NY CM7 for just me, then ics coming out, makes it hard for me to want to go to it. I love my setup as well as my performance here on gingerbread. But, I have pulled myself to download oICSv41 as well as the GLaDOS kernel. Is there any big bugs with v41 I should know about..? As well as with GLaDOS. I know of the reboot problem, but it sounds like its just people using set CPU. And if I do have problems ill just go to mathkids trusty matr1x kernel that I've been using since 6.0. Although none of you will provably care I just felt the need to say this, thanks guys
PS. If you have problems like this, post then below, weather it be with phones or not.

Idk bout you guys but I'm not afraid to try new things, have fun living in the past cavemen lol. But things about ics right know are all known issues that Google already knows about. Bad battery life due to android os keeping the phone awake, home screen lag which gets resolved by using either kernels you mentioned and depending on the from you settle on, incoming mms doesn't work but outgoing does. Other than that, its bad ass and something new.

Nexusbeam 4.0.1
Perfect combination. Everything works, no complaints.
Quadrant scores of 3434, which is respectable.
ICS is the way to go!
Hope this helps you decide.
Even though I finally have a decently running ICS ROM.. I'm still disappointed by ICS. I think a lot of it had to do with the very large overhyping it got.. I mean we all thought our phones would be ****ting rainbows and unicorns, and didn't, not even close. It's a cosmetic re-design with annoying hardware accelerated web browsing..
The accelerated web browsing is so poorly implemented one of the first features I'd love to see in a ROM is the ability to turn it off. I'm much rather put up with the occasional "hitching" while scrolling instead of the "Scroll, scroll scroll, wait for it to render and make the blur go away" craptacular experience it is now.

And that's the story with anything new that comes out. Everyone hears about something new and runs with it and praises it to the heavens and back without knowing anything about it (true hands on experience). Its always best to form your own opinion on things and not let hype or anything like that to get in your way of judging something.

It's weird because the render time is insanely long on the OTA. But, when I had installed Kwiboo's or CM9, the browser experience was amazing!

I dunno, i look at GB now and it look ugly and clunky. Stock ICS is running just as fast (or faster) and stable as stock GB did for me. I don't even have the desire to play with custom ROMs and kernels anymore, ICS is so close to perfection for my needs. Unless CM9 offers something really great, I'm sticking with stock ICS.

Smoothness ICS

It seems like the biggest struggle with AOSP ICS is the smoothness.
I just got a chance to play with a GNexus for a while, and IT is supper laggy and stuttery, what the H is google doing?
What happened to gpu rendering and android finally "getting it right?"
Anyway, be understanding of our devs, because it looks like our AOSP ICS ports are originating from inferior code to start with.
thoughts?

I played with a Gnexus the other day and it was smooth beyond belief, in fact I have never seen a device run so well. Unlike Apple devices, android isn't idiot proof. You have too many things in the background and it's going to lag. The user has just as much an impact on device performance as the actual device.

Good to hear. I was feeling pretty cynical about it after trying this guys phone out. Was the phone rooted and running a custom rom or anything?
Who knows what this other guy had running on his phone that made it so laggy, but I'm glad to hear that's not always the case.
On a more positive note, Audacity B2 is really really nice now!
I actually doubt I'll be jumping back to GB after this. Totally impressed with our devs!

i tried to reflash stock modified rom (virtuous sense) after almost four months on ICS and stock rom seems to me to have similar action speed (for example, app startup) and much more lags in transitions - scrolling etc.
So, i decided to stick with ICS.
