KQ7, KQB Wi-Fi Random Dropouts - Galaxy S I9000 General

I made the thread here because it's not only a KQB rom problem, it's also happening on KQ7.
Now, i don't think it's a problem with our routers since on other roms it's working properly. It can't be a problem from our routers because the only setting responsible for this it's the DHCP Lease Time, but since the Wi-Fi is dropping randomly and not after a fixed time, it's not a "feature". For me it dropped after 5 minutes of connection. Then after 1 hour, then again 10 minutes, or 10 hours. So it's random.
Also the problem it's not the modem or wifi binaries, since i tried with KQ1 modem and binaries and the problem was the same.
So the last thing, i think it's a problem with the ROM itself, something that Samsung modified in KQ7 it's also present in KQB and it causes this problem.
We need a developer (skywalker, please? ) to look on this and maybe he can identify where it comes from.
Also we could try contacting Samsung, but I personally think that would be pointless.
A question for CM7 developer, skywalker. Can you make a patch or something for us to have the wlan or whatever from Cyanogenmod ? modem, binaries, and everything that relates and have a connection with the wifi/wlan. Since that's from Google and not Samsung, i think it will fix it.
P.S: Kernel is not the problem, i had this problem on KQ7 with stock and feacore nonOC kernel, and on KQB with stock and SkyHigh 1.4c kernel.

For me no dropouts since KQB

Hmm, my phone is simlocked, and when i install every rom i don't take out the sim card.
Could these 2 be the problem ? the fact that the phone is simlocked ?

since not every user experiences this problem (for me this problem also does not exist), it is impossible to say that this problem is rom related
there has to be other values which interferes the wlan connection
so you have to collect more informations about the phones which suffer from this bug

Can't do it alone if nobody helps me...

One if the reasons I'm still running KQ1.
Also tried the WiFi fix and KQ1 binaries, but still WiFi drops on KQ7 using the stock kernel and Feacore 1.4.
I'm running on a N-only, 2.4Ghz, 40 MHz, AES, WPA2-PSK, 300Mbps link on a TP-link WR1043ND.
Haven't tried KQB yet because of the other issues that rom has.

I have the same problem...since 2.3.5 stock rom
also i tried custom roms but without succes...maybe a experienced dev will help us

So any developer could look into this, please ?

I had wifi drops with KQ7 (broodrom) but they were solved using every fix broodplank provided to us: the browser fix, KQ1 modem and wifi binaries.
Sent from my GT-I9001 using XDA

I'm on KQ7 and never had any wifi issues with any router I connect to (speedport w721v, linksys wrt54gl, devolo AV wireless n). For all those wifi networks, encryption is WPA2 personal and adresses are distributed by DHCP.

I can say the following: I have no dropouts on my home router (Asus N56U) which is working in 802.11n only (WPA2, DHCP) but I have dropouts at work (some old router with 802.11b/g, DHCP). I think it could be connected with this (but I am not sure as it could be just an issue of an exact router).
I have read a version that the phone just drops wireless connection for energy saving purpose (and that can be true as 802.11n should be more energy efficient)
I have also read that guys from 4pda.ru copied system files from KQ1 (some system libraries for wireless lan) and dropouts have disappeared.

Lol I was actually the one who released the KQ1 Wifi Binaries ^^, not that it matters but still, look in my rom topic

I installed KQ1 modem with Odin, then booted into recovery, mounted system and flashed KQ1 binaries from broodplank.
I still have dropouts.
I don't think it's the router, since when it randomly drops, the wifi button in status bar remains ENABLED but the connection is no more.

Can you track if the connection fails every ... seconds? Because if it's the same amount of seconds each time it's because of "wifi.supplicant_scan_interval"

Nope, i said it a couple of times already that it's pretty random. Can be 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour or even 5 minutes.
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval it's set to 180. What does it mean anyway ? and what's the value ? seconds ?

Ok then it's someone else, but what?. the command means that the wifi will scan every 180 sec for new connections, sometimes it happens (which is a bug) that after you're connected to a wlan, you will disconnect after the exact amount of seconds matching the value.

I have no idea what could be the problem. Anyway it's not a fixed time, it's random.
That's why i asked the help of a developer. Maybe he can notice something wrong in the rom regarding wifi.

So, i had same problem with wifi but i solved it. Model of my router:TP-LINK WR543G. In KQ1 everything was okay, but in KQ7 and KQB wifi stay connected only for about 1-2 mins, then dropped and i had to reconnect it manually in settings. KQ1 binaries and patches not helped. So i change DHCP lease time to max ( in my router, 2880 ), then switched wifi brodcasting channel to 13 ( anyone in my neighborhood are not in this channel ), changed security option to WPA2-PSK and encryption to AES and turned off "group key update peroid". That helped! Before that i was no able to use wifi cuz it dropps, but after i am still connected for about week, and everything works correctly

So it's a "feature" from Samsung in KQ1 and KQB.
The problem is that i couldn't find the right settings in my router, so the problem remains. Now that we know that it's a change in the ROM, we need someone to identify the change and change it back on how it was on KQ1 for instance.

Do you guys have wifi dropout during screen on or screen off? Because I have only dropout during screen off, leaving it in some minutes (i don't know how long) and then wifi is disconnected. I have already set wifi policy to never.
I'll try to disable wpa2 regroup key renewal...

Hanging Wifi Problems on HTC Dream

ISSUE
Every 3 - 5 minutes while browsing, my wifi will "hang" (timeout when trying to access sites). Note: it doesn't disconnect, the wifi icon is still there as if I was connected, it will just timeout any requests.
TEMP FIX
Reconnecting will fix the problem until it occurs in another 3 - 5 minutes.
VERIFICATION
This is not an issue when using my device on my friend's home WIFI connection.
WHAT I'VE TRIED
Updating my Linksys WRT54G Ver. 2.0 router to the latest firmware.
Switching from WEP to WPA (TKIS) encryption.
Trying different wireless frequencies (i.e. different channels)
Manually setting MTU to 1500 for my broadband connection
Resetting router & Modem
Setting a static IP on my phone (only wifi settings I can change on my phone).
COMMENTS
I think switching from WEP to WPA (TKIS) sped up my connection (but didn't fix the hanging). I didn't do enough testing to verify this but I ran 4 speed tests (1 with WEP then 1 with WPA then one with WEP then one with WPA) and in all occasions with WPA (TKIS) encryption my speedtest results were nigh twice as fast as the results when using WEP encryption. Odd...?
This isn't an issue on my laptop when using my WIFI connection, however, that doesn't say much since I likely have a much better receiver in my laptop (an Intel wireless N card) and it's not to say my laptop gets a perfect connection (I can't play Team Fortress 2 on WIFI anymore because of lag spikes - need to play with wired connection), but it just doesn't have this hanging problem.
If anyone has any ideas of other things I could try to get this working I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks.
Hey,
Iam wondering, after flashing tomal 8.7, I have the same problem as you with my universal. Did you found any solution?

Hi,
It looks that I've got the same issue as you have - the connection is still active (at least, the icon shows that), but after a couple of minutes, I cannot access any website.
Did you guys find any solution to this problem?
thank you very much
Ive had that problem with a few routers(i know the answers late, but maybe it will help someone at least). I had to disable the routers firewall. Once that was done, no disconnects. Weird.

[Q] HELP! HD2 wifi is completely unreliable

My wifi is spotty, at best. I've tried every ROM but every ROM has the same issues: wifi will work for awhile, then it won't, then I power the phone off, then it doesn't work after I power it back on, then I disable it and re-enable it, and it may/may not work. Basically, it's totally unreliable.
I AM running a 2.4 mouse/keyboard combo, but I've tried different channels on my router: 1,6,11 ... they all have issues. My router is a D-LINK 615 and supports 801.11b-n.
I have an iPhone and it is rock solid on the wifi; plays nicely with the keyboard and mouse and doesn't miss a beat. But I REALLY want my HD2 to work: it's more baddass!
Can anyone help me out?
by not working, could you be more detailed? coz if the problem is about wifi went to sleep state after you lock the phone, then there's a settings for that.

Where's the setting?... I must have missed it! I can restart the phone and get the wifi symbol, but the reception bars aren't fully lit... only the very lowest (I'm on a sense build now).
I go into wifi settings and it says 'connected' ... but I try to load the browser, or marketplace, or Amazon AppStore ... and I'm not connected. I disable wifi then I renable it and my wifi bar is full! And the wifi works for, maybe, 30-45 seconds before it doesn't work again.
Really, really odd. And this is how it behaves on all ROMs I've tried.
*EDIT* I just saw that my wifi sleep policy is set to 'never' go to sleep.
I just turned on "best wi-fi performance" but I have my doubts that it will work... and my battery is going to suffer, big time.
I suffer from similar symptoms.
Wifi will show as being connected (but sometimes the signal meter is obviously off), but things like the browser won't load. It'd be nice if wifi just dropped entirely (and then push notifications would work again), but it doesn't. It just doesn't work; it shows as being connected, but I can't load things.
If I disable/re-enable wifi, it works again.
I think most of the time (for me) the trouble is the result of going between different APs or coming back to an AP, but still sometimes problems occur even when I'm sitting still at a single place (I'm connected to a campus network, but I've had this problem happen on a 1-router network before too).
I've found that, overall, the g.lewarne kernel works really well after a few reboots (wifi sometimes still gets "stuck," but not as often...), at least better than Raf 1.9. But... problems still exist.
Hope you find a solution here! There have been several threads with this already...
Thanks! Help installing a new kernel...

Hrmm.... I've been searching high and low for a good kernel and was thinking it might be the issue. I found g.lewarne's kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917590 ... but I have no idea how to apply it to my current build: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1027768
Is it possible to apply the g.lewarne kernel to CME Desire HD2?

I just flashed g.lewarne's GL_CORE_V5 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917590&highlight=reboot
... I flashed the whole ROM and I'm getting zero wifi. Even with the other kernels I was able to get some wifi, but none with this one. I like the ROM look a lot, but nothing doing on the wifi front.
Anyone else have suggestions??
WPA vs WPA2
Make sure you set ONLY WPA and TKIP in your router settings... I have much more reliable wifi because of this.
Also, choose specific wifi channel ... channel 6 works for me, and I've seen channels 1 and 11 as recommended channels as well.
Mixed WPA/WPA2 and TKIP/AES modes were horrible for wifi
FYI!
My ROMs are working relatively well now... much better than mixed modes (no wifi working)

Ah. Unfortunately I have little control over the wifi infrastructure on campus (I'm in a college environment). That said, I'm not connected to the WPA2 Enterprise ssid but the unencrypted one.
Good to hear you found a resolution!
I have found that WiFi works just as good as my laptop when I'm running Windows Phone 7. Much faster at connecting and can connect further to the edges of signal then Android. I wonder why this is.

[Q] dropping wifi signal ???

anyone else experience wi fi issues ??? tablet keeps losing signal ?? laptop is perfect also my phone is full signal to ?? any fix for this ?? thanks
I posted a thread in this section about the same thing called "wifi strength". It is a problem with the antenna, it gets REALLY bad reception. Mine gets 25db less than my phone in the same exact spot in my house so it is obviously an issue with the tablet.
Someone in the general section replaced the antenna and said they got significantly better results, but it looks like no one has found a US vendor for the antenna yet.
I had this problem. If you have your Wifi set to stay on all the time (even when the tablet sleeps) the Wifi will not reconnect when you wake it up. It's something to do with the rotation of the Wifi address (DHCP).
Change the Wifi disconnect setting to "when the screen goes off." That fixed my problem.
If you setup a static ip address for your connection it will stop dropping the connection. Also, there is a fix for this in the development section. Search for wifi dhcp fix and install it.
Here is the file you need, you have to flash it through recovery so if your not rooted your out of luck. Otherwise the static ip trick should fix your problem.
I've been having problems with this recently. My a500 worked fine for ages, then started playing up when I got a new wireless router (Netgear DGND3300v2). It would keep dropping out, despite my other wireless devices working even better. If I turned the wireless off, it would take ages to reconnect, or not reconnect at all.
My issue was caused with the 11G channel on the wireless router being set to auto. I changed this to 6 and as soon as I did that, it worked flawlessly. Not had 1 problem since.

Help with fixing Wi-Fi

I have reached my wit's end trying to resolve my problems, so I'm posting here for ideas on fixing this, any input is appreciated!
When this started I was on stock, rooted, ICS 4.0.3 and had been for months. My wife has a nexus s with the same config and hers works fine.
Last week, my daughters sidekick 4G stopped having wi-fi internet connectivity. I turned her wi-fi off, then back on and it was fine and has been ever since. Later that night, my nexus did the same thing, the same procedure resolved it. Ever since then, my wi-fi will only work for 1-5 minutes after turning the wi-fi on. This is the only thing I can think of that changed that could have caused this. This was the first night we connected her sidekick to wi-fi.
The wifi symbol is up there, it'll be blue for up to half an hour, but won't have internet connectivity for long. One thing I noticed pretty quickly was that even though the grey wi-fi symbol is there, I can't access the router settings at 192.168.1.1 from the phone. I thought the grey wifi symbol still indicated I was connected to the router still, but it's not working. Each time this happens, I can turn wi-fi off, back on immediately and it'll work for 1-5 minutes. It appears that the more I constantly use it after turning it back on, it seems to maintain connectivity longer.
Last weekend, just after these issues started, I visited my sister and my phone operated on her wi-fi all weekend just fine.
When I came back home, my problems started immediately.
Here's what I've tried in pretty much the order I tried them:
I started by uninstalling avast, facebook, and autostarts
selected "Forget network" in access points screen and reconnected
Factory reset
Wipe dalvik cache & fix permissions
see if it worked without sim card in (it didn't)
flash GB broadcom driver
Switched router channel from 6 to 1
flash stock 2.3.6 (wi-fi problems still present)
flash OTA ICS (still had problems)
flash stock 2.3.6
flash OTA ICS
re-root
Flash PixelROM 1.60 LiteTouch
factory reset router (No wifi problems on using open network and default SSID for 30 minutes!)
resetup WPA Personal security and rename SSID same as before
Worked for another 15 minutes or so after this
flashed stock 2.3.6
flashed OTA ICS
re-rooted
Restored nandroid backup - quit working after this step
Factory reset router - worked for about 15 minutes, I decided I was ok so I setup security and SSID as before, then it quit working again
flashed PixelRom 1.60 LiteTouch
flashed stock 2.3.6
Flashed OTA ICS - THIS time I did not restore my google backups from the cloud, fearing that this was somehow restoring something that was causing me problems. It did not help.
Changed SSID on my router and reconnected phone
I have spent countless hours trying to fix this. I don't believe it's the hardware because the router factory reset seems to help quite a bit, works fine on unencrypted default router settings, and it worked on my sister's wi-fi.
I have nmap and wireshark and have a basic working knowledge of them. I have adb setup and usable on my computer. I also have dd-wrt installed on my router and have for years. Is there any kind of IP or hardware logging I could perform with these tools to help figure out what's going on??? ANY help is GREATLY appreciated!!
Well i'm no expert with any of this, but it sounds more like a router issue.. If both your sidekick and nexus have the same characteristics of failing wifi, it cant be the devices..
If you've already reset your router and it does the same exact thing, maybe it is something wrong with the router itself. You said it connected fine at your sisters house, so it cant be any hardware within the phone.. The only thing I could think of is maybe try a different router in your house to see if it works? If that helps get rid of the connectivity issue, then you can just get a new router and be happy with the wifis
I don't think a *hardware* problem with the router would only affect 1 device connecting to it wirelessly. I would think that kind of issue would affect all devices on the network.
Which makes me wonder if there's a setting on the router that may be causing it somehow, or some combination of packets might somehow cause the router to block my phone.
But again, I'm open to ideas here and I appreciate your input. I think getting another router will be my next step if I don't hear anything better by the time I get my next paycheck.

Ohh, I thought you had said that both the sidekick and nexus were having problems connecting. My bad.
But yeah have you changed any settings on it lately? Or messed with anything related to the router? Some setting may be kicking your device off after 5 mins, maybe some frequency setting or something dumb like that, I have no clue.
I know how it feels to have funky wifi, so I was only trying to help. good luck
Have you removed DD-WRT from your Wireless Router and back to stock OS? I had a Linksys router with DD-WRT and after about 3 years it started working so weird it became useless with any device. Had to buy a new one.
BTW, are other devices connecting fine to this router?
As swamp goblin stated, I would try with a new router.
It sounds like an issue on your router (or AP) with mixed client settings. I have had this issue with an old Netgear AP.
Try forcing "WPA2 with AES only" if all clients support it, otherwise force "WPA with TKIP only". If you have mixed B/G/N devices, force the fastest mode that all devices support. I use "G only".
Then remove and re-add the router on all your devices.
Also check for router firmware updates, and if you use DD-WRT firmware, find the Wiki page for your model and revision and use the suggested build there. The DD-WRT database they have is a mess and should not be used!

I haven't removed it. I thought I had a model that couldn't go back to stock, but I WILL be looking into this. The other devices connecting fine are Sidekick 4G, Wife's Nexus S, Acer Aspire one, HP tx2000 laptop, and my wife's HP laptop. I also have my satellite receiver connected via ethernet.

[Q] i9505: WiFi not saving key, invalid IP address

My GT-i9505 has a problem with the Wifi. I bought it a month ago and the Wifi stopped switching on after 2 weeks suddenly, no idea what caused it. I formatted the phone and that fixed the problem, it's been working fine since then. Now I have 3 more small problems all related to the Wifi:
1) It takes a while for Wifi to switch on now, maybe 10-15 seconds. It seems to get worse every time I leave a place using Wifi by letting it disconnect on it's own when I go out of range.
2) I have to input my WPA key every time I connect to the same home wifi router (Dynalink RTA-1025w). How do I get it to save my key/password?
3) It almost always connects to the router without being assigned a proper IP. On DHCP it usually assigns 192.168.1.3 when it works, but sometimes it says ::1 instead. I have to change DHCP to Static and manually input 192.168.1.3 and that fixes it instantly, but I need to do this and input my WPA key almost every day.
I was planning on rooting and installing CM but I thought I should ask about my wifi problem first. I'm assuming CM will fix these problems but I thought I should double check and ask whether I should fix this before installing CM, just in case I make the problem worse. This is also my first smartphone so I'm completely new to all this (my last phone was an old Nokia E55).
Another unrelated question. What's the difference between the CM on cyanogenmod.org VS. KVT49L [AOSP] 【4.4.2】Dan&Ktoonsez 【CM Edition】on this forum? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2763735)
I'm guessing the latter is the same thing but with further tweaks, fixes and additions, correct? I would ask in the relevant thread but I don't have permission. As a legit newbie, I'm quite overwhelmed with all the CM choices, how do I know which is the right one for me?
