I just got froyo and a special flash apk that fixes the hulu.com mess. I can't deal with the choppiness that the new android flash has. Does anyone else have this problem? Its not even worth watching videos if the flash player constantly stops to buffer. I tried finding fixes for this but I don't see anyone trying to figure this out. Is this adobe's problem?
I used it to watch adult swim and it didnt stop once and was very crisp. This was over 3g also.

I hardly use hulu, but tried it just to see how the flash works. I'm an avid Twilight Zone fan, and searched and watched some episodes. Running off of wifi (since I have horrid service at my house), the video was highly watchable, when fast action was on the screen it stuttered a little bit, but never stop / froze / became unwatchable. Love it. ♥

I'm using sky raider 1.9, nothing about beta, and I didn't have to download flash from the marketplace like some people had to with the Cyanogen mod.
Was going to say it might just be the built-in flash plugin for sense, but I checked the market place and didn't see it there, but saw "Adobe Flash Player 10.1" in my applications under "All". No beta tag there ;D

I have the same build.
Flash is in beta right now. Beta 4, if memory serves.
When I am watching hulu.com it says a warning at the top before it plays " This video is not optimized for mobile viewing" I have 4 bars of service and it still struggles with a small 2 min video.
EDIT*I did download a week ago an apk that tweaked the flash player so that it would work with hulu.com
Kinda hard to complain running an unsanctioned version of the OS and a beta Flash player.
Give it 6 months, and then you'll have ample opportunity to complain.
In order to watch flash videos at hulu.com do you have to update the flash.apk with the tweaked version?

I am not sure if it is flash we are having problems with. Maybe its the cache? It seems that the like 20 secs into a flash video it starts to get choppy. Maybe its the cache getting full. I have noticed when I run a different browser the flash player plays differently. I think the skyfire browser was the best so far at playing flash.
I don't what terrible things Samsung has done to it but it´s very nasty downgrade from 2.1.
Everything lags, scrolling isn't smooth.. back to JM9

Do a full wipe, and wipe cache in the recovery mode.
Completely agree. Browser lags -A LOT- while trying to scroll.
And there seems to be no button to disable flash from loading (flash seems to be what is slowing the browser down)
I did a factory reset + reformatted SD cards before installing JP6.
Browser is worse than Eclair indeed. Something must be done about this.
Back button is the same as before: simply use the standard back button on the phone.
To make Flash content load only after you click on it: go to settings, choose Enable plug-ins and select On demand.

Alright, thanks. That actually smoothened the scrolling experience a bit too, it's still worse than on 2.1 though.
Try this:
- close the browser
- open pocketnow.com
- after it loaded, scroll a bit
- now look in task manager
With plugins disabled the browser took only more than 130 mb for just one opened page.
Of course launcher, live wallpapers, etc were killed due insufficient ram.
Free available ram + browser = perfect combo. Gg google & samsung. Great relase
That...is absolutely ridiculous, I just tested on jpa, 124mb used for pocketnow.com followed by a fc and memory dump
This froyo is not release worthy...

It's strange pocketnow in JM9 only used 29 Mb. The problem must be flash related.
There is a memory leak in the leaked version of 2.2 for the Captivate which is what was causing the browser lag. I'm hoping this is not the case for your I9000's as this was supposed to be fixed before release and does not bode well for the release version of the captivate. However, it may be something to look into.
comfirmed, huge memory leak with the browser.

How did you confirm it.. In my experience, most people who "confirm" memory leaks have "confirmed" it using VERY sketchy evidence. It reminds me of the time a bunch of people "confirmed" firefox was leaking, and showed "proof". Problem is, it was wrong (and every developer knew it). Unfortunately, the crowd these days seems to hear the word "memory leak"., and be instantly biased.
Firstly, people should set addons to load "on demand" (its in settings). Secondly, ensure you have wiped the caches and reset to factory settings (if you aren't using Kies to upgrade). Because it's certainly fine here.. After you have done both of these things, then return, and comment on how they went.
I find it impressive how effortless it is to set you guys off though on angry rants, without having all the facts.
Man.. I've already wiped right after update. Also I've tested with plugins off and on demand. with flash always on is worse.
Just try it.

How much crap are you running in the background? All I'm running is Launcherpro, Jabberoid.
And the Froyo browser feels to me as fast as the Eclair one.. Neither are blitzing, but it isn't bad here..

Funny, sounds like you just went off on an angry rant and also didn't seem to have any facts showing that there isn't a memory leak.
If you read the stuff from the developers in the Captivate section, it is widely known that there is a browser leak with the new update. Granted, ours was a leaked version, but it's real none the less. I'm not saying that is definitely the problem here, but based on the facts of what we have with the captivate, it is certainly something to look at.
Yes, everyone has already tried setting addons to "on demand", even turned them off completely and wiped the caches and reset back to factory settings, all of that is old news. There is even a thread posted specifically trying to address this problem.

also it takes extra cpu too. Try listening to music while browsing.

andrewluecke you must have a different sgs than the rest of us. No matter if we speak about gps, lags or browser problems, you always come here to say that the problem isnt so bad, people tends to exagerate or samsung is not doing things so wrong.

I was reading this article on gottabemobile.com About XDA porting the Netflix HD app to the Galaxy Nexus..and I thought, umm why don't I try that on my Note....Installed the APK from their link...OMG BEAUTIFUL. I started up the New Star Trek Movie, awesome, the old Star Trek, awesome again...the interface is a bit small as its made for tablets I guess, but just pull your stylus out and there is no problem here!
On one small note. I used Chrome to Phone to send myself the APK link. After I got the APK link I also got bombarded with spam links via Chrome to Phone on my notification bar. I had to uninstall Chrome to Phone after 12 notifications about "Hot Girls" I'm guessing this is almost like uncontrolled. pop ups on the server that was serving the APK file. Hopefully I can re-install it with-out the spam, as I use Chrome to Phone a lot!
Edit:
Just connected it to my LCD...it does not look like 1080p when compared to running a youtube 1080p video
Well darn...
I actually can't stand the interface. Without the stylus it's very hard to navigate. Very hard. I wish I could switch it back but still keep the high res video.
The normal netflix app on the Note was also very small as I remember from the handful of times I used it before I installed this APK. Though the actually interface does seam just a tad different.
OP are you sure about that?
I was under the impression that Netflix HD only will stream 720p content to OMAP equipped phones at the moment.
I tried the APK on my Note and movies look exactly the same as the regular Netflix App, still looking standard definition to me.
I have no way to confirm that it is actually playing HD. They look great to me. Though I must admit, I only used it a handful of times previously. The APK works and it's functional. I'll try and use the HDMI Out Cable and see if there is any improvident....
Edit:

don't discount this app just yet. It definitely plays video better than the app i installed it over. I watch a lot of space docs on netflix, and they have looked terrible because of the black "blockiness" problem with the note. This version of netflix looks amazing on the note compared to the one i had downloaded from the market. this fixes one of my only disappointments with my phone!
and it also gives me hope that the video issues can be fixed by software alone!

Can you tell me which APK you are using? I am sure we are using the same one and the picture is not any different to me than the stock. This is definitely not 720P. am I the only one who feels this way? Also I keep seeing people refer to HD content on Netflix. How can we tell which it is? Thanks.

You running ICS on your phone?
Used it on OG Transformer with paulburton's ICS ROM. The browser is pretty smooth, and looks just like the pc chrome browser.
I don't have enough posts to link to the file, but it should be pretty easy to find the apk by now.
i tried it on Sensation
its pretty sweet
we need ICS for TF101 now!
Does Chrome for Android have all the same security and privacy issues that Chrome for desktop has?
If it does, i'm sticking with Opera.
Google and Adobe won't support flash for Chrome on Android
Which is either good or bad depending on you.
I use Flash for live video so I don't like this decision. It's a good option to have, you can always opt to not install it

I just hope that is not a RAM devourer app
Works great on my Rezound with 4.0.1! This browser is sweet! I would totally dump the stock browser for this anyday, but I kinda wished they kept the darker gray theme rather than going back to light gray..
The tabs sharing with the desktop Chrome is F-ing Awesome! Like what Chrome2Phone should have been all along!
No Flash in Chrome for now. Adobe say they won't support it but hopefully Google will adapt it later.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/02/08/flash_chrome/
Where be the tab stack? Do we lose that, another Tablet sacrifice?
Fairly stable for me. The only crash I had was with something like 7-8 tabs open (all XDA Prime forums, plus a few chrome blogs, LOL! I like it. A LOT! And typically I am hard to please, especially where browsers are concerned. There are way to many Android browsers out there that are acceptable, but not outstanding. Each has their own little tweaks and claim to fame, but under the hood they are ridiculousy similar. Let's see, I have had on my Prime, at one point or another:
Stock. - Works well. So well it bores me, LOL
ICS+ - A nice set of enhancements. I use it more than the stock webkit browser
Dolphin and Dolphin HD - I like, don't love it. A bit TOO slick, and some things frustrate me. It will be better when the HD catches up to the small screen version, I think
Opera Mini and Opera Mobile - What can I say. 2 solid browsers here. Mobile is a keeper. [
boat browser - Not imopressed, other than speed, it was buggy. removed.
Skyfire - I LOVED this one on my phone in early releases it was amazing. When Skyfire decided t charge me to see flash, I decided to cut them lose. Too many alternatives. It's not THAT great.
Firefox - a HUGE let down, but everyone expected magic here. Didn't materialize.
Maxthon. Very cool new browser.Jury still out on this one.
That's right off the top of my head.
Anyone know how to make the tab "Stack" appear in chrome, or is that only in the phone version, because we have the real estate to see the tabs. If so I am disappointed. That was chromes one big trick pony, and I was excited to try it. So far I can't see the button in top left to enable them, just a new tab button. Anyone?

Just another reason Asus need to pull their finger out, and stop sitting on the ICS update.
Let's face it, no matter how much business you can make with your Nexus 7, a tablet is designed mainly for entertainment. A bigger screen usually means that we get to enjoy certain medias on a bigger screen, aka videos. However not every streaming website can afford or even cares enough to have fancy apps like Youtube and if you stream live channels online for emergency sports on your work computer you would know that flash still plays a part in our daily life.
As Adobe quits on Flash on our future Androids to get everyone into the HTML5 stage, PC users will still have a fairly high amount of data for grabs through Flash but our tablets will be losing that whole side of information while the transition goes through. Although I don't, but I could imagine my girlfriend playing an online Flash game on my 7 but it won't happen anymore.
and... we lose one thing to show-off to the iOS users...
How is everyone else coping with the fading of Flash on our mobile devices?

Works perfectly now!
Yeah I was bummed out when I first read that on Adobes web site. Yeah eventually most sites will hopefully change or add support for our tablets and phones to compensate foir Adobe doing that however being that we have the lovely OS that we do there are very easy workarounds! I installed the AOSP browser @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780746 and flash @ https://www.dropbox.com/s/cgsd3gyy7v6c90j/com.adobe.flashplayer-1.apk This is great too because I prefer the AOSP browser (I love the full screen mode with quick controls). The bookmarks don't sync though.. So I just kept the Chrome Bookmarks widget on my homescreen and set the default browser as Browser. Works like a charm!
I despise flash so I don't miss it on my device, at least not for anything important. Bring on HTML5!
yea everyone despises flash. high CPU usage low performance. but it has been playing such a big part in the past 10 years or so that it might just be TOO sudden a change when not everyone has gone to HTML5 and officially taken out flash as a whole. This might hurt Android as it is a crucial time Post-Jobs for android to have a major counter attack on iOS and an obvious visible advantage has been taken out.
I sideloaded flash & firefox for iplayer but other than that I haven't missed, the sooner flash dies the better.
