I just got froyo and a special flash apk that fixes the hulu.com mess. I can't deal with the choppiness that the new android flash has. Does anyone else have this problem? Its not even worth watching videos if the flash player constantly stops to buffer. I tried finding fixes for this but I don't see anyone trying to figure this out. Is this adobe's problem?
I used it to watch adult swim and it didnt stop once and was very crisp. This was over 3g also.

I hardly use hulu, but tried it just to see how the flash works. I'm an avid Twilight Zone fan, and searched and watched some episodes. Running off of wifi (since I have horrid service at my house), the video was highly watchable, when fast action was on the screen it stuttered a little bit, but never stop / froze / became unwatchable. Love it. ♥

I'm using sky raider 1.9, nothing about beta, and I didn't have to download flash from the marketplace like some people had to with the Cyanogen mod.
Was going to say it might just be the built-in flash plugin for sense, but I checked the market place and didn't see it there, but saw "Adobe Flash Player 10.1" in my applications under "All". No beta tag there ;D

I have the same build.
Flash is in beta right now. Beta 4, if memory serves.
When I am watching hulu.com it says a warning at the top before it plays " This video is not optimized for mobile viewing" I have 4 bars of service and it still struggles with a small 2 min video.
EDIT*I did download a week ago an apk that tweaked the flash player so that it would work with hulu.com
Kinda hard to complain running an unsanctioned version of the OS and a beta Flash player.
Give it 6 months, and then you'll have ample opportunity to complain.
In order to watch flash videos at hulu.com do you have to update the flash.apk with the tweaked version?
Where can i get the yweaked ver

I am not sure if it is flash we are having problems with. Maybe its the cache? It seems that the like 20 secs into a flash video it starts to get choppy. Maybe its the cache getting full. I have noticed when I run a different browser the flash player plays differently. I think the skyfire browser was the best so far at playing flash.

...video playback is great. UI's a bit iffy, and the zoom (it does support multitouch) is in steps, but the killer feature is the video playback. Just tried some online content and it looked excellent - worth keeping just for that I think as an alternate browser.
yup, thats my point actually lol, just for the sake of the video playback...
someone please get me the apk =D
it's on the market now
ya i know its on the market if you read my previous post....

skyfire 2 is brilliants. It is still beta so no true serverside flash rendering yet, but it works just like the default browser with multitouch and with compression tehnology. Loving it.
I tried this app for ages yesterday but could only get one site to actually play any flash videos which is kind of the point. The site was redtube purely for research purposes of course
Sites that wouldn't play include:
itv player
demand five
megavideo
quicksilverscreen
empflix
vho
Can someone post some good video sites that do work? This app has a lot of potential but at the moment it's not living up to it. It is in beta though and I hope it will improve over time.
It is a pretty good browser though with multi-touch. Another nice feature is one button "connect as" - you can choose Desktop, iphone or Android which can load a mobile version of a site (or not)
purely a personal feeling, but I think the stock browser is way better, for what matters miles ahead of every other phone I've tried.
still, a lot of options is always an excellent thing...
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
yes the stock is way better, just that it cant play flash video like skyfire period..
i tested megavideo, it works 1 out of 10times.....dont know why.......
there are other websites that are working and i watch a full movie of alien on it streaming on a website...=)
I might have been lucky, flash worked 9 out of ten times on stock browser for me. good to know I can rely on skyfire when problems happen however.
my 'mistrust' for skyfire comes from trying to use the last version on WinMo and finding it really slow compared to old versions. sort of different on modern devices...

Me too even the BBC site loads the video but you cannot click on the play button it just sits there at the first screen or am I doing something wrong
Flash didn't work at all for me on Skyfire. Pinch to zoom was terrible aswell, it has this weird "acceleration" which means it zooms for half a second after you stop moving your fingers which I hated. I uninstalled it for now as the stock browser seems far better.
i am playing flash videos that i can't play on the stock browser....skyfire works great for me...
maybe all the years of helping old ppl crossing the road finally pays off, i am getting a good return...
I can't seem to play any videos through the youtube app.
Every one gives me the same error:
"there was a problem while playing
touch to retry"
Embedded flash plays just fine, but the app doesn't work worth beans. Anyone else experiencing the same problems?
Mine does the same **** i have to restart the phone its the froyo update ****in **** blows

youtube put up a statement on the site saying that it's something on the backend the changed and now have to release another update for the app. It's not just the epic that's having the the problem. A lot of phones with 2.2 are. You can still go on the full site and watch the videos in flash if you want to.

Yup, tried that and it worked. However, on some vids, now goofy youtube says I need a flash upgrade. Argh.
Dolphin browsers to watch flash.
I wish they'd fix this **** already, getting tired of rebooting my phone all the damn time. Seems to trigger by the phone dropping to below 50% battery then charging back above. At least I've read there seems to be some correlation and it seems to be the case on my phone as well.

Sounds like it's affecting "stock" users.
FWIW, youtube works fine for me now.
So, I'd previously heard lots of great things about the MIUI rom. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed. Setting up apps to specific windows was a lot more cumbersome than with other roms. I like having an icon that leads me to a menu with ALL of my apps. It's a lot easier to set them to certain pages after that. Also, unlocking my phone is slower bc I have to press down and hold the lock for a sec before I slide it. Honestly I like just swiping it. Now, these previous two issues I could live with if it weren't for this final problem, video playback. About 95% of my videos on my SD card wouldn't play. All I could think of was "ugh, this is Cyanogenmod all over again". Do you guys know of any fixes to these three problems (mainly the third one). I liked the rest of this rom quite a bit, but I refuse to run it if I can't play all of the silly videos I've taken in the past.
You can use a different launch. Adw, lpp, go launcher all use an app menu.
You can change the locksxreen style. There are really endless options there if you search.
Are your videos recorded in 720p from a blue rom? This is supposed to be addressed in this week's update. Meanwhile, you can use a different video player. I use rockplayer, other i've seen have recommended mxplayer.
Hope this helps

Sometimes if i try to open my videos from gallery they wont open, but if you open them from any file explorer they should open fine

Yeah your best bet is to get a new launcher. I would say I like using adw myself with miui, then editing the themes on miui.
Let's face it, no matter how much business you can make with your Nexus 7, a tablet is designed mainly for entertainment. A bigger screen usually means that we get to enjoy certain medias on a bigger screen, aka videos. However not every streaming website can afford or even cares enough to have fancy apps like Youtube and if you stream live channels online for emergency sports on your work computer you would know that flash still plays a part in our daily life.
As Adobe quits on Flash on our future Androids to get everyone into the HTML5 stage, PC users will still have a fairly high amount of data for grabs through Flash but our tablets will be losing that whole side of information while the transition goes through. Although I don't, but I could imagine my girlfriend playing an online Flash game on my 7 but it won't happen anymore.
and... we lose one thing to show-off to the iOS users...
How is everyone else coping with the fading of Flash on our mobile devices?

pretty easy to get flash..
First install the AOSP browser:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780746
After that, I still had some newer flash content saying it needed the latest flash player, so installed the two flash players from this thread:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...189897-no-flash-got-you-down-try-fix.html#anb
Works perfectly now!
Yeah I was bummed out when I first read that on Adobes web site. Yeah eventually most sites will hopefully change or add support for our tablets and phones to compensate foir Adobe doing that however being that we have the lovely OS that we do there are very easy workarounds! I installed the AOSP browser @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780746 and flash @ https://www.dropbox.com/s/cgsd3gyy7v6c90j/com.adobe.flashplayer-1.apk This is great too because I prefer the AOSP browser (I love the full screen mode with quick controls). The bookmarks don't sync though.. So I just kept the Chrome Bookmarks widget on my homescreen and set the default browser as Browser. Works like a charm!
I despise flash so I don't miss it on my device, at least not for anything important. Bring on HTML5!
yea everyone despises flash. high CPU usage low performance. but it has been playing such a big part in the past 10 years or so that it might just be TOO sudden a change when not everyone has gone to HTML5 and officially taken out flash as a whole. This might hurt Android as it is a crucial time Post-Jobs for android to have a major counter attack on iOS and an obvious visible advantage has been taken out.
I sideloaded flash & firefox for iplayer but other than that I haven't missed, the sooner flash dies the better.

Well apparently it's the YouTube app...just read the comments on Google play for this device. =/ it's a shame, I'm starting to realize more and more the software hasn't caught up with the hardware in this beast.
None of you watch videos on YouTube??
I've been using the stock browser for YouTube.... not full HD results but at least it plays without jittering and pausing to buffer all the damn time... buffer stays way out ahead of video and plays like a champ.
Just a temporary solution until fixes for apps start coming around...

Same. I can confirm that YT through the browser is very smooth, but like you said it's not really HD, just "HQ", which is so damn stupid. Why can't they figure out a way to enable HD through the browser?
Just an FYI. I was having the same issue as you. I un-installed all of the updates for the YouTube app, and set it to not auto update.
Did this a week ago and its been running perfect ever since.

I tried that but for some reason hd videos still stutter for me. Ugh.
I use the Youtube app all the time, it never buffers. Been awhile since I've had a device like that. I'm wondering if this phone has MIMO.
My $600 Sony Tablet buffers in the same spot.
You bring up an excellent post!
When I got my note 3 for $700 no contract a month ago, I was on the verge of returning it the very next day because no matter which youtube app version in the store I was using, it would stutter and drop frames but not all the time, just every so seconds it would drop frames or stutter like. It drove me nuts because this beast of a phone should not hiccup on youtube videos 1080p or not. My iPad 3 doesn't even have this problem at all.
I also installed flash using the digital cookies version of the AOSP browser and you won't believe it but full screen youtube videos do not stutter or drop frames!! This is compared to the stock youtube app!
So I have to say it has to be typical android BS where the app is just not optimized or buggy as F as usual. Netflix doesn't seem to drop frames like the youtube app - but watching anything .mp4 online streamed will do this occasional frame drop "lag" issue. Really pathetic if you ask me how this andreno 330 gpu can't handle a youtube video!
Using even the MX Player app (using SW, HW, HW+ accelerations), it would still drop frames/stutter! Unbelievable. So it has to be something to do with this phone's hardware drivers. God knows how long it will take samsuck to fix this or even acknowledge this. Google ain't gonna touch it because they are focused on kitkat BS which I don't give a damn about considering it has nothing compared to Samsung's S-Pen and all the galaxy note features.

Nope - deleting/formatting the cache partition does nothing. A full wipe does nothing either. Even removing the updates and restoring stock youtube will help ALOT but the drop frames/stuttering is still present in the youtube app. Go load up some VEVO music videos in HD and you'll see what I mean. Android sucks; loaded up the same videos with the same ads on an iPad(3)/(4) and ZERO stuttering/dropping frames. Android just can't do anything smoothly!
I have to agree with you. I can say it's DEF not the phone itself - the hardware is godly. It's ****ty android and/or the YT app simply isn't optimized yet for this brand new hardware.
The absolute concrete evidence came for me when I streamed a full 1080p VERY VERY high bitrate movie from my computer with ES file explorer (best file explorer btw). I purposely picked the movie with the highest bitrate, the dark knight, in my case. The video played smooth as melted butter.
Just to be sure, I also moved the file to my phone, because with streaming it can be argued that the host machine, my computer in this case, does all the grunt work. It still played like butter.
So this is just another classic case of software lagging behind the hardware...Google is notorious for this.
