question about quadrant on nexus s - Nexus S General

Hello..I got nexus S couple of days ago. I did an official 4.0.4 update on it. It looks to run good so far.
However, I have one question. When I run Quadrant benchmark, it gives me score of around 1200. Isnt it too low compared to what I have seen other people are getting?
I do know these benchmarks dont really mean a lot..but im curious as why a devices with same hardware and software would get different scores. I have stock and only two apps are installed as of now.
Any information is much appreciated.

That's the right score for a stock nexus. Unlock the bootloader, root, flash a custom kernel and overclock. Even throw some other tweaks in there, like v6 and installing chainfire drivers, stuff like that. THEN you will start seeing those great quadrant scores. Just remember quadrant scores are not everything and don't mean to much.

Thanks for the reply.
Its running pretty smooth as of now so I don't think I'll worry about rooting. I have to give it to my brother and he wants OTA official updates lol so yea

They are fake, you can submit anything you want to that site long as you know how.
I thought I read that they had a pretty extensive anti-cheating system in place Maybe someone has liquid cooling in their eris
I can confirm they are fake. I am not, nor have I ever had EE3 on my phone, yet I got 8mflops out of it.

You guys with the fast speeds, can you post what settings you have your setcpu at, current rom and any tweaks you have? I am running Aloyius v11 MAPS version and only get 2.8

I think he was saying "I don't have that rom and yet it says I have 8 mflops even though I never did that" or something. As jcase said, they're probably all fake. There's no way our little old eris could handle 1300mhz without like exploding. Hell I don't even think it could reach it in the first place.

Kevlar,
The ROMs that are the Vanilla ROM's with JIT are the ones that pull down high 4's and low 5's. Aloysius is a sense based the ave scores on these ROMs are 2.8-3.2. I am currently running sense-able and get 3.2. I have ran Eris lightning bolt and gotten 5. Oh my phone was at 729 when doing this.

Why? Aloysius with OC is plenty fast. You're not gonna get it up to like Nexus one speed if that's what you're trying for. But anyway, I think tainted vanilla would be a good one. I would say vanilladroid but it's outdated and I had lots of problems with it.

And have been waiting for 1.3 for months now. They may as well just hold out for official release of Gingerbread and convert their work done-to-date to that new build.

Sure we have been waiting a while, but it will be worth it, and who knows how long we may wait for GB, ya know? Plus personally I think EC05 is the most stable build to work with and the newest so that's probably why. Although it would be great if we could see SFR for Gingerbread... whenever that happens, not counting on it though, I'm just happy with SRF 1.2 right now waiting for 1.3 lol.

Jrojas Via Tapatalk
SRF 1.3 is in the works, I know that for a fact. JohnCorleone has been testing, and chris41g has taken over Mystery's job.
Be patient. Right now, there are many great roms out there. Not trying to hate on SRF, but it's not any better than some roms we already have. Take the iPhone for example. It's popular because of the name, but there are many other phones better than it.
Same thing with SRF. It's popular because of the name, but there are so many froyo roms that are just as good, if not better, than it.
I understand you're excited for 1.3, but it's not going to bring anything revolutionary for the Epic. I'm sure there will be more tweaks, new kernel, and new theming, but that doesn't mean it'll be the best.
I apologize if I brought you down in any way or made SRF sound bad. It's still one of my favorite roms and I am looking forward to 1.3 but in the mean time, try out the ones we have now.
Also, seeing you only have 3 posts here, welcome to the Epic 4G XDA community. Once again, sorry if I scared you a bit

Ugh I know. Xoom had theirs months ago. Acer just got theirs
Worse comes to worse, ICS is being released to the public soon, a couple of months after that I would expect that we'll start getting nightly builds of the next CM.
Please, stop creating these complaint threads about 3.2. It gets old, nobody cares. Install a custom ROM and Overclock, whining won't make your experience (or anyone else's experience) any better.

What will 3.2 enhance over touchwiz? Would 3.2 make that much of a difference? It's also a little more work for Samsung to update 3.2 with touchwiz isn't it? When I bought the tab I knew Samsung was going to do a touchwiz skin for it, I kind of knew then updates would arrive later for the device. If updates were that important to me I would have purchased a more pure honeycomb tablet.

How do you know if it was 3.2 that improved the tablet, or changes Moto made in the update aside from 3.2 that made it better? Cause usually companies, when they offer OTA updates, don't just update the Android revision and that is it. They include bug fixes, update drivers, that sorta thing.

Well I've never owned a Samsung device before my Tab, but I have always read about how Samsung was always slow to update their devices. I myself would be/am more interested in ICS. And it kind of doesn't really sound like it would be smart business sense on Samsungs part to put all of the time into a HC 3.2 and TW update with ICS's release right around the corner.
From what I've read about HC 3.2 is that it doesn't really bring that much more to our Tabs. Plus I think (but not sure) its not so much HC 3.1 that's laggy as it is TouchWiz. Again I could be wrong...
I bought my Tab right before the TW update came out, used it for a week and installed ADWex. Then a week later did the TW update and just stayed using ADWex as my launcher, it runs super smooth and love how you can customize it to my liking. So I'm not all that familiar on how TW runs on HC 3.1, everything I've heard and read says it is laggy so...
And why the dissing on the eVo!!! I'm still rocking my launcher day (hw 003) eVo, rooted running Decks 1.2 (GB 2.3.5) overclocked to 1.2gigs and loving it. I got the Evo 3d when it came out and took it back a week later, felt cheap. Got the Nexus S 4G when it came out, samething it felt cheap and my OG eVo was already running 2.3 with all of the good and bad it has to offer. I think I'm to the point now we're I'm just going to wait for ICS to start hitting the market before I up grade.... My OG eVo 4G has and dose just about everything a lot of the newer devices do already.

This.
Here's the change log. As you'll see, nothing is dramatically different or improved. The major changes are scaling for GB apps and the ability to read media directly from the SD card. Anyone seeing huge differences is under the placebo effect or the OEM changed a bunch of drivers that didn't have anything to do with 3.2 specifically (performance wise).

Quadrant is a bit bunk I agree with that, but I noticed that on Galaxy S phones running 2.3.4 and higher that the Quadrant scores have been reading anywhere from the low 1400s to the low 1700s. I just wanted to know what they changed in Gingerbread that made the phones a bit more responsive.
That said bro, /beg would be nice to see some screenies.
I'm really wondering how EH03 matches up against EI20 on the generic sch-i500(Showcase) or how it matches up to EH09 on the Mesmerize.

[Q] "Titmat"? For my Epic 4G?

First, let my apologize if I posted this in the wrong place. I am new and just rooted my epic 4G today for the first time with my friend's help.
I have CM7 and was trying to overclock my phone to see how fast it would go, most of what I've tried has only let my set it to 1000. My friend tells me if I can find something called "Titmat 2.6" it should let me boost to up to 2000. Google keeps telling me it's called Tiamat, but I see titmat used for the Evo 3D. It just so happens, that's my friend's phone aswell. Is there a copy of Titmat for my Epic 4G (non touch) that someone might be able to provide a link to? Or if not, is there another kernel you recommend for my phone? Any help would be appreciated. Again, I apologize for my newbness. :\
What you need is one of the cm7 kernels from over in development section. Shadow and Samurai are good. Then get voltage control from the market to over clock. You aren't going to get 2000 though. Samurai is 1500 I think and shadow is 1400.
Tiamat is a kernel for another phone.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
You nor your friend should be overclocking. You both seem way to uneducated in it all and don't understand what you are actually doing, the negative effects, the way CPUs work, and the difference between phones. Overclocking is dangerous stuff...

Damn marcusant lmfao don't discourage the people actually willing to learn...
But like marcusant said, its only for the evo 3d. Our phones use a different method to overclock.
If you take a stroll down to the epic 4g development section, you should see things like "cm7 kernel" in the title. Read each thread and see which kernel you like. Afterwards, just download voltage control from the marketplace and you should be able to overclock your phone
Most epics are stable upto 1.2Ghz, but some get lucky and are actually able to overclock to 1.4 and 1.5 with no ill side effects (I'm one of them )
Now, when you overclock, you're working it more than it was designed to. Fortunately, we have easily the best single core mobile processor out there right now on a mobile phone, so it can take it. However you also give it more power to run at these higher speeds so it heats up faster...and we all know what happens when silicon gets heated BUT with voltage control you can do something called "undervolting" which lowers the voltage-per-clockspeed aspect so to say. Its usually safe to undervolt by 50mV without any ill effects, but as with overclocking, some people can undervolt EVERY clock by 100mV or so (I'm not one of them.. ) I do not recommend attempting to undervolt unless you understand the risk/reward ratio fully. If you undervolt too much your phone will become corrupted, but if you do it one step at a time your phone will be super fast AND on a power diet
I recommend the shadow kernel. I haven't been on cm7 since cm9 dropped, but shadow kernel usually worked best for me.
If you have any questions I'll gladly help I will also be quick to note if a simple little search would've answered your question in a very condescending way. Fortunately your post is legit

Marcusant is correct. Overclocking is not for the light hearted or newbies. It can damage your phone, make it unuseable if you do not know what you are doing or how to recover it. It is like adding a nitrous kit on a motorcycle for a new rider.

I don't mind helping people root their phone or with problems installing or running ROMs but I do not encourage overclocking period. You know I am always here to help Fox.

When have you ever not helped?
IMO and purely my opinion its not as dangerous as most think to be I've ran my processor to the ground and its still chuggin can't be healthy playing n64oid at 1.5/1.5 for 2 hours straight . I've yet to hear of anyone frying these hummingbird processors..correct me if I'm wrong...anyways hopefully this doesn't start an argument please pm me if you want to "discuss" this.

Samurai has a oc/uv apk with it. I am a noob when it comes to that stuff. but I keep mine about 800 because I don't use my phone at work. I only o/c when I am showing off my phone.
I never discourage learning. If someone understands the risk and likes to learn, they'll most likely learn something from that. Do we even have any confirmed reports of the epic bricking from overclocking?
Having said that, am I the only one who feels the phone works snappy enough w/o overclocking?

No I agree its fast as is. I only overclock to play games on it or when I feel its not fast enough browsing the web

I think this kind of went off point. Yes the phone is totally snappy enough with OC. The point was the OP came here looking for something that is not for this phone to push the speed to 2Ghz because someone else told him about it. It wasn't a question about teaching them to overclock it is more an issue to teach him to research before flashing a kernel for a different phone.

Wow..
Thanks for the advice guys. So my friend made me look like a jackass. It was Tiamat. Yeah, I understand that's just a special Kernal for his Evo 3D. I'm gonna look into Samurai and Shadow. I haven't read anything about any fatal damage from overclocking. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the phone just gets hotter and the battery dies faster. (correct me if I'm wrong) I have plenty of extra batteries because before EI22 my phones battery life was about 4 hours, without using it. So glad they patched that.
My $0.02...
1. Never heard of a hardbrick from overclocking with Hummingbird, phones will turn off and reboot before they get that hot. Most that would happen is data corruption, which is nothing a little Odin won't fix.
2. I would never use the titmat if that was what it was really called.

I think he means Tiamot not titmat lol. But the epic will be faster than the evo 3d no matter what your friend overclocks it to. I used an evo 3d about a month ago and it was slow as hell and the screen sucked. The 3d isn't even 3d.

samurai is dead for playing nice with other people's gpl code.
Titmat? in for pics.
I'm down with the titmat!
