Failed to boot NexusHD2-ICS-CM9_V1.3 - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Good evening everyone
Before I create this thread, I tried lots of tutorials & youtube vids hoping I could find a way to solve my issue (incase I'm wrongly flashing android)
anyways, everything is completed without issues, except for when running android on the HTC HD2... once the system starts loading the device reboots :S
I Fixed Permissions, deleted cache ...etc I even started from point 0 where I wipe everything and then I start partitioning, then installing bootloader ...etc
I'm using this release of Android: NexusHD2-ICS-CM9_V1.3 (even tried this one: IceCreamTosti_v0.11_AOKP28_29, same thing happened)
and afterwords I flash this Kernel: NexusHD2-Kernel_2.6.32.15_tytung_ics_r1-MAGLDR-update
and IF and only IF I succeed to reach ICS Boot animation, I don't get pass the boot animation ...
Any idea what I could be missing in order to be facing this issue?!
Another question, for my Xperia Arc S I must unlock bootloader to be able to flash custom ROMs, is there such thing for the HTC HD 2?!
I also can't turn on the device unless it's connected to the PC, other than that it will never turn on, any solution for this thing?!

There is a question forum JUST FOR THIS! Reporting thread.
On a ontopic point, if it boots once the second time you go to boot delete dalvik cache then boot the second time. Also dont flash kernels. Just flash the ROM and boot. Reboot, delete dalvik then boot. It will be fine. Unless you need a new phone.
Next time, POST IN THE CORRECT SECTION! Dont you notice how your topic has NOTHING to do with development? Useless topic....

Thanks for your answer.
As for posting the thread, I had lots of tabs open on my browser so I didn't notice I was on the development forum, my mistake
I tried your method, and yet I can't reach the boot animation

Let's start from beggining...
1st check HSPL you installed... which version is it?
MAGLDR and cLK 1.5 rc1 works fine with all versions.
cLK 1.4.0.1 needs HSPL 2.08
2nd which bootloader are you using? Make sure it is the latest (MAGLDR 1.3 or cLK 1.5 rc1)
3rd Important check your partitions.
make sure /boot is at least 5MB
/system, deppends on the ROM, if you are not sure unzip ROM and check system folder size.
If this doesn't work, I suggest to check for bad sectors in your NAND, I don't remember how to do it in MAGLDR but if you search forum a bit you will find it.
for cLK you will see in CMD when you try to erase partitions using the command "fastboot erase system" (that is if i remember correct, search about it).
If you have bad sectors try make bigger partitions, if i recall correct MAGLDR is able to detect bad sectors and skip them.

[Q] Bootloader: USB recognized, but unusable. Bricked, or still hope?

Alas, the old companion HD2 seems totally locked...
In my attempt to flash to an Android ROM, I spent two whole days digging through XDA. So I got me the HD2toolkit, a backup stock .exe, and the target ROM.
installing hSPL worked
magldr wouldn't install. So I updated the phone to get the right radio. This unfortunately upped hspl to 3.03. So i downgraded that by installing hspl4 and opting for 2.08.
Magldr then installed nicely, but the phone would not restart: the OS wouldn't start.
So I task29 succesfully, and install the windows update on the phone again. Works just fine.
Back to installing magldr, since hspl is still at 2.08 according to the tricolor screen. (that surprised me, since at the first time it went to 3.03).
And then it all went to bits. I get an HTC screen on white background, but no 'quietly brilliant' for 5 mins. Going to bootloader works, it recognizes the USBcable (can hear the telltale sound on the PC as well), but no data can be sent across that cable... No hd2toolkit orders (202 connection errors), and no official ROM executables will connect.
Tell me, is this now an official brick? Or might one of you have The Ultimate Revival Secret for me?

no need, you could have just flashed teh radio, thus avoiding changing teh whole rom, removing magldr and hspl, and taking about ten minutes less.

again, there is nothing to boot, , flashing magldr removes winmo, and you havent yet flashed an android rom.

not even close. So far everything sounds like a simple missmatch between magldr spl and radio, made more confusing because you arent really 100% sure of what exactly is being added / removed at each step. (Sorry, not having a go, just being blunt )
the connection errors might be an issue, but probably not, give your PC a reboot, use a different usb port.
in bootloader, what do the top line, and the spl line say? does it say USB at the bottom?
With your phone in bootloader and connected to PC, on the PC, click start - right click 'computer' (or 'my computer', depending on win version) choose properties, find device manager, and see what entry is listed for the phone.
**NOTE when you flash magldr, if the radio or spl is wrong, magldr will be there, it just wont show up, it will go straight to the boot screen and hang there. You dont have to re flash magldr, just change the spl/radio to the correct ones, and magldr is still there and should start, no need to re flash it. Magldr is only removed by flashing a stock winmo rom (or a cooked winmo rom that includes splash screens)
Be still, my beating heart...
Thanks for your answer, Sam. No harm done in the bluntness, you quite rightly marked me as a noob. Indeed not all is clear on the boards, but we all do our best.
As you said, I had no clue all the OS on my phone were gone. So i saved me another ten minutes (thank you, again) and flashed a new radio. And behold! Magldr is back!
You, sir, should be kissed!
Now to find out how to install a Zimage, that still seems to elude me (seeing there is no daf.exe or install.exe)... I'm aiming for this one to install: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250703. hd2toolkit will only help out on nb or nbh, though.
If you could point me in the right direction?
And muchos thankyous are coming your way!
well first up you should add cwm on top of magldr, most roms are clockwork(cwm, cwr its called slightly different things, all mean the same, , 'clockwork mod recovery') roms.
You can do this with the toolkit, but instead of the hd2 being in bootloader, enter magldr and choose 5 usb flashing, then in the toolkit, choose a partition size, (160 by the looks of it, for an eu model) and when thats done,
restart,
enter magldr
option 8 ad recovery - will start cwm,
then choose 'install zip from sdcard' - 'choose zip from sdcard'
but remember BEFORE you do all the above, you should
1 - set up your ext partition (you can do that in cwm, , 'advanced' - 'Partition sd card', but be warned it will wipe the whole card)
and
2 - copy the romname.zip onto teh sd cards fat32 partition.
EDIT - oh and most roms have two versions, a magldr version and a cLK version, dont confuse cLK with CWM, theyre different things. For now stick to teh magldr versions, you can find out about cLK later.
Now we're getting places!
So if I understand correctly, the toolkit has not installed CWM. OK, I'll go and look for that rom.
However, the android I pointed out is, if I read you correctly, not NAND? It was posted in the NANDcategory, so that confuses me. Bummer, I need my SDcard for data.
yea its a nand rom. most nand roms use an EXT partition, and for most sense 2 roms, its advisable, and for sense 3 roms it simply wont work without it. Look at the partition size for the tmous version(which is the same but doesnt use an EXT),,,435meg, that's just for the system partition, it would leave you about 50meg for apps and data.

not a rom, as such. Go into the toolkit, with teh phone in magldr, option 5 'usb flashing',,at the top of toolkit 'magldr repartition', below that click the 'custom' size, below that cache size 5 (from the 5/160/5, personally i use 45 regardless of what teh rom says, but thats just me, its not absolutely critical), then below that 'repartition', , a popup will ask you teh custom size, 160, OK,and off it goes installing cwm.
Hm, interesting.
Thanks to your feedback, i get magldr 1.13 up and running, just fine.
Next to that, flashing ROMs seems to be working smoothly.
However, none of the android ROMs are taking! I downloaded (from several sources to exclude download errors) three ROMS:
1) rom Based RUU Desire HD 3.06.405.1 - With sense 3.0 - Android 2.3.5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264828
2) Desire_S_sense3.5_Android.2.3.4_v1.2_EU.zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250703
3) GBLeor3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1256581
nrs. 1 and 3 are installing, but on startup hang on HTC's splashscreen. Nr 2 is not installing (aborting during install, status 0), tried both on 5/160 and 5/200.
Seems like android install through magldr is not working at all! Any thoughts?
To be complete, I installed:
hSPL 2.08
magldr 1.13
radio 2.15.50.14
repartitioning through hd2toolkit
It all started with stock winmo, wich i updated to 3.14.404.2. It's an EU phone.
Don't forget it takes a while on first boot, especially the large ones,I can well believe a sense 3 rom that is writing 300+ Meg to the ext partition would take well in excess of ten/fifteen minutes and more first boot.
Also, if you flash a rom and then go to flash another, you will be leaving parts of the old rom on the SD card. In cwm before the flash choose wipe data/factory reset. That's in cwm, not magldr. Also, did you set up the ext through cwm?
My advice would be go for a simpler rom, one of the cm7 roms, typhoon for example, purely to show its working.
The desire S (sense 3.5) did not even install after 6 hrs, so I'm guessing something's wrong there ;-)
I'll wipe data between flashes, and per your suggestion, try something light as an appetizer first. Not before next weekend though! I lost enough sleep )
Thanks again!
When I started flashing nand, very often(six times in ten maybe?) the first boot never completed, and I soon learned that if after a few minutes nothing happened,I'd pull the battery and it would Start the next boot. Also, keeping the hard keys lit (touch every min or so) seemed to help.
I know I'm straying into "lucky socks" and good luck charm territory, but can't help to try, and I DO know I've seen one rom in the past where the instructions mention keeping the screen on as being important, so who knows?? Not this stoned and overtired techaddict!
I've had a stable rom that I've been just flashing updates for some months now, so I've not had that situation for a while. The wipe data command in cwm is deff important tho.
The only other thing that consistently causes non starting is too small a partition size.
cyanogen is stable
Yub yub, commander, time for an update. Cyanogen has been installed and working for close to 3 months now. So it actually does all work!
On the boards, I can now see updates on the ROM I crave (sense 3.5 from htc desire), and those updates are suggesting 260 Mb partitions (no ext). So it would seem my first partition was indeed too small.
So tempted to try those again...
Too bad cyanogens rom backup is acting weird. Otherwise it'd be no problem just to try, eh?

[Q] Help a Noob?

hay folks!
i have a Sony X8 running a modded rom so i'm not a total noob!
but i'm a bit stuck with the HD2!
what is the simplest way for me to get Android on my HD2? (Nand not SD)
info about my HD2
CPU: QUALCOMM(R) 8250B
SPEED: 1024MHz
RAM size: 448 MB
Flash size: 512 MB
Storage size: 181.47 MB
Radio Version: 2.05.51.05_2
(if you guys need any extra info let me know!)
i have read many threads, installed the one click app & bricked my phone (restored it to Stock Rom)
once i have a working Rom Manager & get what updated driver i need i will be fine but i'm stuck getting there
all help is most welcome! i dont want to totally brick my phone trying to get away from this rather disappointing windows OS
Thanks in advance everyone

Read the sticky posts in all the HD2 Android forums. There are a lot of options, so read until you know enough to decide what you want (there are more options with the HD2 than with normal native Android phones).
Once you know what you want (which bootloader, rom, etc.), read even more until you feel you know what you need to do to get what you want. Then read some more.
All the information you need is right here in the forums, do yourself the favor of reading as much of it as you can, this will avoid a bunch of potential problems, and your next thread being titled something like 'Help pleeeease I bricked it!!!'

the magdlr option looks fine to me (i saw a old youtube video for MAGDLR1.13) but i don't get how i know what "RADIO" i need? (& the video says if i get this wrong i can Brick the phone) if bricked means "have to restore to stock rom" then that's no problem for me, but i don't want to make the phone "DEAD"
i think i will find the rom i want then ask advice about what to do with "radio" after that time so the question is more informed
Subz
That radio brick warning is for tmous phones only, you are immune to that.
Use 2.15.50 radio.
Hspl4 set 2.08.hspl***
Bootloader
USB
Flash radio 2.15.50***
Bootloader
Usb
Flash magldr
Enter magldr, USB flasher
USB
use nand toolkit to set required system partition size
Enter magldr, 8 ad recovery
This starts cwm
In cwm advanced partition SD card (this will wipe the card so save anything you need)
Put the.zip you want to flash on SD
In cwm 'flash zip from SD - choose zip
Restart,
If it hasn't booted after ten minutes pull battery and restart.
*** don't need to touch these again unless you go back to winmo.
Hi
i updated my radio to 2.15.50.14 & i updated to 2.08hspl
can i install MAGDLR & or CLG & keep the current win boot it has also?
last time i tried with the one click tool my phone just hung at the HTC screen & did nothing at boot, (had to restore to stock)
is it best i chose the rom i want to install & do MAGDLR & install new rom at the same time
i'm still open to advice on the best android rom out (Stable & Latest is my preference)
i like the one click install tool but cant find tutorials that dont assume i know what partition size is best & what to expect from MAGDLR & CLG?
not even sure how to boot in to CLG if i did get it installed
advice on ONE straight talking tutorial would be great

there is no 'best' partition size, , if you dont set one big enough for the rom you chose, it wont boot, , if you set one bigger than teh rom you chose, you waste space.

ALso, many tutorials wont mention it as part of the process, but after you have flashed CWM, and before you flash the rom, go into CWM and use 'advanced - partition sd card' (back up anything you dont wanna lose)
this will walk you thru creating an EXT partition on your s card, which acts as internal memory. Doing it now will save you having to do it later and ruin an installed rom.
Thanks for all the help guys!!
i am running android
magdlr & cynogenmod 2.0
all working (but the camera is super crap in this rom)
now i have magdlr i can play with roms
off to investigate typhoon next
i'm sure i will be back at some point asking abut installing CWM (ClockWorkMod?) as this is what i use on my Sony x8
but already with this older Android Rom i have a more useful phone than i had this time yesterday
thanks again for all your help guys!!

[Q]windows mobile6.5 to android major problem

after tonnes and days of reading and digging out infos from this forum, i tried as much as i could to follow instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948
but then, something went wrong and now my HD2 is not booting up. it is now stucked at the HTC splash screen. i can reboot to get the MAGLDR however.
what i did was, i flashed MAGLDR, as in the first step in the link above.
then i flashed this android ROM:
MAGLDR_Android_2.3.5_Runny.rar
from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1298188
and then the problem started. i'm now searching for a way to recover my phone to the original condition, which was windows mobile. or even better, someone help me solve this and my phone can continue in android. i really need the android because the WolfRam alpha app is not available for windows mobile.
help me please, i'm nearing exams and i need help in my calculus so i decided to take the risk but unfortunately i'm now phoneless and going out of my mind.
thanks in advance
correct spl?
correct radio?
correct partition size?
Radio 2.15.50.14
HARDSPL 2.08
i didn't check the partition, how do i check that?
when you flashed CWM you chose a partition size based on the stated size for the rom you want to flash. it will be in the first post of that roms thread. Use teh nand toolkit, is teh easy way.
EDIT - oh wait, forget that, that rom provides its own cwm, , you have a 265meg system partition, so probably not that, (unless you missed out steps
Download archive with the MAGLDR loader and Recovery from here than unpack its content.
and
Run DAF.exe from MAGLDR_Recovery folder)
still stucked at the black screen with the green HTC words. i tried several times already and it won't start up.
is it possible to wipe the whole thing installed in the phone, and install android to it?
If you flashed magldr then it's all already gone.
I'd try a different rom. Maybe its simply that that rom doesn't like your phone for whatever reason.
Pick a rom
Enter magldr - USB flasher
Flash required partition size using the nand toolkit
Enter magldr option 8 ad recivery
Choose flash zip from SD - choose zip
Probably a stupid suggestion - but have you checked the battery pins? Make sure they're not bent in anyway and that the'yre making contact with the battery.
@samsamuel;
you were right, the ROM hated me :'(
i changed to using the coredroid ROM and everything worked thank you very much!!
@MrFoxx;
i checked the battery pins, and they were indeed bent! but it didn't give me any problem

[Q] TouchWizMOD v1.1 [DataOnExt][NativeSD] installation issues !

Hi everyone !
As the title of my thread may suggest I have problems installing this Rom. This installation via Clockwork doesn't seem to go wrong but once I first boot it the HTC screen appears and the screen turns black.
My question is : - could it be linked to the partitioning of my SD as I'm not sure that my ext4 part is recognized or is it bécasse I have a French HD2 and I'm supposed to install it differently than with MAGLDR ?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Long live the HD2 !
Hi!
Did you install the ROM on NAND, DataOnExt or NativeSD? You might be trying to boot the wrong "place" (I mean eg. trying to boot into NAND but you installed it onto NativeSD).
I shouldn't be a problem that you have a french phone.

I tries every possibility to install it but everytime the first boot happens i have a New htc black and Green and I don't even have the android animation, the screen is just on but black and the physical buttons are lighted on.
Hmm interesting. Make sure you have the latest CWM on your phone. Alternatively you can try flashing the ROM using the SD build of TWRP by kokotas from here:

Does this happen to you after installing any other rom? Try another one (e.g. on NativeSD) just to see wether it works.

Are you using Magldr or cLK? Is there a chance your boot process is trying to go to sd card instead of nand or the other way?
Beyond the above, the likely problem is a system partition which is too small.
Double check the ROM's minimum requirements and make your system partition bigger (add at least 10 MB, more if installing dataonext option. Your device likely has some bad blocks and you need to allow more room for this one.

Hi,
I'm using Magldr and I tried every way of installing it. The only progress I've made is trying to install the Nand version (even though it doesn't correspond to my phone's version). When I do it, I see an android screen after the HTC one but nothing happens afterwards.

[Q] MY htc hd2 with android on it

hi
i have a htc hd2 tmobile version and its installed with android 2.3.5 and its got a MAGDLR v1.13 and Clockwork v3.1.0.0 courtesy of a friend ... i have never flashed a android before, recently i tried to hard reset and ended up with the phn struck at the htc icon on startup with a white screen... i press hold the power button and see that magdlr has some option like 'flash from usb' and stuff and also i am able to see the option 'ADrecovery' which takes me to clockwork options which has even more options ......
can i just flash the ics veriosn using usb flash option or do i need to have a ext SD to do this ? and wht should i do to flash what all should i download or can i just flash the rom using what's already on my hd2
herez the link to the page of xda which i wanna flash on my phone (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434860)

Follow the first link and you should be good to go.
And if your rom is working fine, no need to upgrade anything.

well i installed the new rom and finally it ended up at the same place after the boot screen doesnt load any more after the HTC appears on the screen.... i really dont get whats wrong .... well atleast HTC appears more stylish now i guess some customization frm new rom maker the back ground is dark with green htc letters now instead of white back ground....
isnt there anything simple like the evasion tool which is so simple and u sit back while the windows application does the installation work for u

What size /system partition did you use? Make sure it's above the minimum size for the ROM you selected.
Also, right now you're just proving precisely why people such as myself recommend avoiding toolkits. You've run into a problem and you have absolutely no clue how to fix it or what you've done wrong. From your old phones you're used to one button just fixing everything, but that's hardly going to work now.

Tone down your font size, it'll only make people LESS likely to help you. Read the guide in my sig, it should explain all of the terms you need to know and make things clearer. The SD partition is the size of the SD-EXT you created e.g. 1GB. The /system partition is the part of the NAND allocated to system apps. You chose the size of this partition when flashing your recovery of choice. You can edit the size of the partition by reflashing CWM via the HD2 NAND toolkit (this isn't a one-click toolkit so I'm not contradicting myself by recommending it ) and selecting the size your chosen ROM requires.

I thought I was quite nice earlier but right now I have to ask you, are you honestly that stupid? Have you even read any of the previous replies I gave you where the word toolkit was mentioned multiple times? I sincerely hope that the only reason for this is that the translation wasn't very good because otherwise there's not much anyone can do to help you.
