Plain Jane 1.0
This is based of a system image of a 1.5 to 2.1 ota phone. For the few ppl that wanted it.
I also added zanfur's kernel, su and superuser.apk.
Testbuild, I have no eris to test this on.

good stuff. thanks!
I always like to keep a plain rom on-hand for those days I'm not feeling so wild.
I am going to flash my Eris with this tonight.
Thanks! Like wildtouch said, it's always nice to have a stock ROM.
I'm already running your rooted version of leak 3, which works great. Is there any major differences between that version and this version, or are they pretty similar?
You read my mind.
Was looking for a stock and up to date one to begin working with. Thanks jcase.

Saw the pics before you released but since it is plain jane wasn't sure if it was a stripped down original eris rom. Can we do the ##778 and update the prl with this rom? I know it was a matter of a apk (can't remember) that wasn't on some builds. Also need it to do a backup of the apn.
Sorry. Nevermind, got it figured out.
Thanks, everything is running great.

I can happily say that PlainJane 1.0 DOES work with my Jabra Cruiser with little to no issues!!! I installed it this morning (with a few tweaks of my own ie - nexus locker, etc) and haven't had a single issue at all! Works like a charm!!!
Thanks to all the devs out there that keep cranking these amazing roms out for us!!!!
EDIT: I have had a few small force close issues, but probably does not have anything to do with the ROM, but I felt I should post them in case anyone else is having the same issues.
When I try to go into certain folders on the SD card through either LockBot Pro or with Astro File Manager, the programs fc. It's probably due to an error with the card, but I have too much stuff on it to try and format and place everything back on there. Also, the MLB At Bat 2010 application fc's once in a while. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and it still happens. It only happens on launch, and when it launches, works like a charm.
Other than that, 100%!!!
Just wanted to update!
can anyone comment on their experience between this and ivan's rom? They seem to be very similar (very close to stack with OC'd kernel)

JCASE!!!!! DUDE, I don't know if you did something intentionally, but I'm getting 0% time without signal!!!! Every other custom has given me the same old issue of have at least 50% time without signal. Also, the pics attached are WITHOUT using the airplane mode trick! Bravo JCase!!!!

not totally. I had the 50% w/o signal issue for the first time on here today. so its still lingering.
Sent from my Eris using Tapatalk
Oh that sux. Well I used it for a couple hours and felt like battery life was a little better. What is the difference between the zanfur kernel and the kernel on the last rooted leak (which is what I was using mainly.)?
only thing I know of is the OC. otherwise it acts just like leak v3. oh and it takes less room. with all my apps installed I still have 95mb of Rom left.
Sent from my Eris using Tapatalk
Pardon my ignorance, but what does the airplane mode do related to the 50% signal issue?
going to airplane mode and back supposedly temporarily remedies the problem.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm experiencing awesome battery life with this ROM.

Stock 2.3.4 is great stability wise and has tremendous battery life.
Iv been running zuluzulu for about a week now and it flies. Great battery life although I am a heavy user. I haven't experienced random reboots at all with it. Also if you like the notification power widget from cm7 its built into zuluzulu.

Try AdamG's oxygen ROM and you'll never want the stock ROM again. It isn't built on cm7, it's based on aosp ROM.

But I do miss the rotary lockscreen on cm, with the messaging shortcut in the middle.

Agreed. AdamG's Oxygen Rom is my favourite right now. It's AOSP GRJ22 with some of the great features from CyanogenMOD built in (status bar power widget, improved widget picker, etc) and fantastic battery life!
A stable cm 7.1 (2.34) will be out very soon. No worries
Uncle Jimmy says hello
With many devices over many years, I've consistently found that stock firmware is more stable and functional than enthusiast-developed firmware.
I have literally never found an enthusiast-developed firmware that doesn't have at least some minor interface glitches. Most have some problem that's major enough that after a few hours of playing I revert to stock.
Occasionally I will run something other than stock, but that is typically after the device has aged to the point that this is the only way to get a feature. By that point, it's usually time to replace the device, anyway.

I agree in general, but of course there are exception. When I had an HTC Evo 4G, I ended up running CM6 as my daily and it was exceptionally stable. At least as good as stock HTC Sense. Unfortunately when Gingerbread came around, that changed, and CM7 was not in the same ballpark.
On my Nexus, though... yeah I run stock ROM. CM7 is cool and if I had any other device (that came with a carrier OS and not pure Android), I would dump that shiz and rock CM7 for sure. But plain pure stock Android developed by a team of amazing developers specifically for this device, that's just not going to be beat
Hah. Google's "official" code isn't really better then what rom devs provide if they know what they're doing. The way google keeps pushing buggy code without giving a s*** is really disappointing. They release updates and then they stop caring about it. As some pointed out the gb update brought call delay and broke aac support, it really seems like they don't even do some basic testing before releasing a new version (which even the crappiest developer on the block generally does). On top of that, there is still no support at all for gpu acceleration in the ui, which is kinda retarded. Day after day i'm getting more and more disappointed about google dev team's job, they don't really deserve half the respect that many geeks keep tributing them.
Stock vs Custom rom on the NS was something I always thought about too! I only ran stock for a few hours because I immediately flashed a new rom when I got my phone LOL But what I can remember from the stock 2.3.4 was that it was fast, faster than any phone I've ever had. But there are so many features that are incorporated in custom roms and it's really hard to forgo these things.
Anyone out there who has used both stock 2.3.4 and oxygen who can attest to better battery life and performance? I am curious as well.
The last phone I used for a long time running stock was my N1 but after flashing CM6 I never really looked back. Speed increase was very noticeable and battery life was better. This is the reason why I never really bothered to use stock software for my next phones.
well, to be honest, i kinda regret to be flashed customs. Stock is so stable and has so good battery life, but now i can't live without cm7 features, just can't...
it's sad story that shows that you can't miss what you don't know! =oP
I agree for the most part, stock gb is pretty good. Using Oxygen now, and the stability and speed from stock + some nice features makes it a good choice!

In the case of Oxygen not much difference but I believe CM pretty much guts the framework and replaces it with their own heavily modded version.

Just wondering - does CM 7 for Nexus S still have the video capture glitch where a couple of seconds are skipped near the beginning when played back?

or should I just stay at SRF for now as far as stability and usage is concern
well acs kills your GPS so dont use that... Dunno about the other 2.
I would recommend ERA Legendary (beta 3) at the moment. Everything seems to work really well so far and GPS isn't broken.

I went to try that but the link to beta 3 has been taken down (beta 1 and 2 are still avail).
I'm running the Pre-rooted Deodexed EI22 and have no problems (well, none that weren't my own fault - flashed w/o wiping and caused an errant notification led).
Anyway, I like this one... used the free version of Titanium Backup to get rid of the Sprint bloatware and it runs great.
Well, there's my $0.02.

I've been using ACS, and I'm not sure why but my GPS is working just fine (I get 9/9 locks). The one thing I did (and this happened accidentally) was wipe my entire phone, data and all. Odin'd back to EC05, turned GPS on and then flashed the new modem and ACS rom. My GPS is actually quite quick to lock, even in rooms of my house I've never gotten a lock before.

Some reports of data not working, but so far I'm not having any issues with it. I tried ACS ICSv2 but I had no luck with GPS. So far this rom is working well.
I went from ACS ICS EH17. Cleared everything. Odin'd modem back to EC05, and then to EI22. Then flashed the rom, but the GPS is still borked. Tried the other modem suggested and even flashed the GPS fix again, still no GPS.
I will say that other than the GPS issue ACS ICS v2 is solid. Battery life has been great for the first 18h 41m. Dispaly time on is 3h 9m, and I have 22% remaining.
It is also very fast. I notice no lag in menus and I am using the beta 21 of TW4.5for my launcher.
I'm on ERA Legendary Beta 3 and have no issues whatsoever.

acs ics v2 has gps issue
i flashed back to acs ics eh17 v6 now, waiting for update.
If you want a "barebone" ROM that's speedy and stable, try StarskyROM. There is one tiny bug that screws up the phone dialer app with a FC, but flashing k0nane's updated noCIQ MOD fixes it. As far as I know, this is the only ROM right now that has the "adrenaline shot" MOD from the SGS4G, which in my opinion, gives it a barely noticeable speed boost/better battery than the rest atm. But as always, ymmv

I have been using ACS ICS V4 all day. Only problem I have found is 4G isn't working but that could be because I flashed the EI22 modem before I came to work.
I have been using Thunderhawk 3.0.5, no issues or FC's. GPS, Wifi, 4G all work fine.
I wish I could say Cyanogen, but waiting for a version where everything plus vid recorder works.

Thunderhawk
I suggest Thunderhawk. Been using RandomKings roms since Phoenix and they are all great(IMO). However, this may be some error on my part but I couldn't get Youtube to work on ThunderHawk to work. I could hear sound but no video and it would vibrate like a force close but that was it.
My 2 top pick at the moment are ACS ICS V5 and SleeperRom. Both are quite stable and good with battery life. They both also have lots of great stuff under the hood (lots of the best hacks, fixes, and mods from the past few months). The Samurai kernel (which gives you a lot of freedom in terms of frequency and voltage) works great with both of them.
I wish I could say CyanogenMod 7 and MIUI, but neither are fully functional or stable just yet on the Epic.

Have you tried the Legendary rom? Not trying to convert you, just hoping to get your input on the differences between the two (or three).
I've tried pretty much every ICS rom aside from MIUI and gb seems smoother to me. Granted its had more time to be refined and I understand that but the intermittent lag here and there and other little hiccups (the keyboard just closing on its own while I'm typing, some missed key presses) are annoying. I'm currently running IMM76 on my 9020a and its better than the last ones I tried (IMO anyway) but I still find myself debating going back to my gb backup or at least another gb rom... just curious if anyone else felt the same way or I just need to give ICS more time..
Edit: Just wanted to let you guys know after researching everybody's suggestions I finally ended up on the latest Bugless Beast nightly build paired with the Trinity 1200 MHz kernel and have been running smooth as can be. Thanks again to everyone who took the time to answer and give their suggestions

Yeah, used to do that back in December, when ICS came out. I was flashing GB back every 2-3 days but just couldn't stick with it knowing there's something newer. Eventually got over the small lags in ICS and been using it ever since. IMM76D is even better.
I moved to a GNex last week, but I tried every ICS Rom for a while and ended up going back to Deck's GB. It's just smoother and faster. The Nexus S doesn't really have the RAM that ICS wants.

No, I'm running stock 4.0.4 now and the leaked 4.0.4 since the beginning of February. Before I was running stock 4.0.3, I've tried almost all custom ROMs and kernels in the dev section, but I don't need any OC, UV and that stuff.
And I'm rooted and unlocked, of course.
I left gb. Since official ics was released for nexus s. The UI of ics is much better in ics vs gb. Ics is also much faster vs gb. I always use custom roms since I started to enjoy the tweaks of a custom rom vs stock. Stock is boring for me.it doesn't have the pull down lock screen and notification. No toggles shortcut. No voodoo controls which allow me to listen to music while screen is off. No 3way reboot option. No bln that alerts when I received a notification. And much more....

try the ICS 4.0.4 OTA. I just installed it on my dad's I9020T and its buttery smooth.. My dad says it is alot faster than GB. (he knows nothing about root, custom roms and etc..)So if he says its faster (a complete noob) than it is definetely faster....
Slim ICS uses a non ICS launcher so it has the GB feel.
Its smooth and blazing fast.
It got me away from GB so I'd highly recommend it.
Good luck
I have thought about what the switch to GB would be like. I could never take a step backwards when it comes to tech and software. I see a lot if people posting about "ICS BUGS" but I have had little to none (AOKP MATR1X NOVA) when I first switched there was a comfort thing but that passed quick enough.
I won't switch until a new OS roles out. Give my set up a try for a few days and see if it works better for you.

I see no reason to. 4.0.4 is leaps and bounds better than GB. All these quirks I keep hearing about from people I have never experienced. It just seems some people look for things to complain about. But come on. No piece of software is going to be entirely problem free.
Hey Guys!
I am pretty new to the world of flashing ROMs, and am trying to experiment as much as I can! I recently rooted my phone (myTouch 4g) to escape the HTC Sense bloatware and kind of escape the gingerbread environment and use custom ROMs that people have developed. Of course, I've had my phone since 2010, and its been working great since. Not looking forward to getting a new phone anytime soon (it does what I want it to do well).
That being said, I currently am experimenting out CM7.2, was curious to hear what ROMs people who use the myTouch 4G as their daily drivers use. I am considering trying out one of the ported CM10.1 ROMs later tonight.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you guys!

Last Cyanogenmod 7 nightly.
I might also recommend Coderzs 4.2.2 Slimbean, Team Inferno's ShenduOS 4.2.1, or my AoCP 4.2.2 lol.
For ICS I recommend Synthetic Nightmare's AOSPx. Also I'm porting a CyanogenMod7 Type of rom, but with more features
Whatever I tried to install on it (including few JB-based ROMs) I always go back to CM7. Anything else is either less stable or uses battery or something is not working well (like camera on JB).

I use Albinoman's 8/24 build of AOSP 4.3 / CM 10.2. It has a few very minor issues but in daily use I find it's very stable...
too stubborn
Too stubborn to use CM7 I fought installing it and keep working with SlimBean 4.3 even though it is still buggy, well mostly for me. I should just back down to 4.22, but hmm here comes that stubborn issue.
I was on a small vacation, and now am about ~7 days till I move into my college dorm and start my college life. Here are few things I figured I should mention:
I am currently using the CM10.1 AOSP JellyBean ROM by albinoman887 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40665477), so far, its been awesome!
Though, there are few concerns about this ROM as a daily driver:
1. The battery life, it really does die out way too fast. It obviously is a concern for me, being in college, I would like to have something mobile and something that can last me an entire day without having to plug my phone into a charging unit. Of course, I was not expecting a perfect ROM for battery life that would be capable of running the latest Android, so all in all, the battery issue evens out, and should not be a shocker to anyone trying out the ROM.
2. I currently am running everything off of a 8GB Micro SD card, which is now full (I am waiting for my 32GB card to come in within the next few days), but when I do use apps such as SnapChat, or Instagram, it prevents me from using my camera with various errors every time. I suspect this to be the full SD memory card, I will make sure to post an update on this issue.
3. The ROM itself is FAST. I mean FAST. It really sets a definition of "multi-tasking" on the myTouch 4G.
There is a new September update for this ROM (I am going to install this update once I get my new SD card) and will also touch on how the update is, and what was resolved. As of right now, this ROM is beautiful, does require a bit of elbow geese to configure the settings to your likings, but that is the payoff.
I have tried CM7 briefly, escaped the ROM, its the most stable ROM anyone can ask for, but I personally don't want to go back to Gingerbread.
Thanks a lot XDA forums for allowing the opportunity to mess with our phones!
I bought myTouch 4g about 2 years ago. Sense Rom was installed for most of its lifetime; mysense (stock), Sense 3, then Sense 3.5, and now sense 4.1. Currently using ViperTouch 2.1.4 sense rom it is the most stable sense rom I found where all the hardware are functional. Battery life has not bad when keeping in 2G mode. I switch it to 3G with I need to browse something. Before ViperTouch I used CM 10.1 from albinoman887 for about 3 month to try out JB, it was really smooth and clean lightweight. I decided to go back to Sense after headphone heatup, camera and mic not working properly. I tried out CM 10.2 Android 4.3 albinoman887, it was smooth for the most part, but i couldn't use it as daily driver same 10.1 issues were resolved. So Sense 4.1 ICS is my current daily driver.

Yes, but it's a little bit annoying so I'd go back to a bug-free version
And somehow the game I'm playing (Rage of Bahamut) doesn't display right in some screen.
Tried ShenduOS and everything looks great. Until I find the 'phone' is not working, lol.
Hey guys!
So, I have been rocking this current ROM for a while now! I must admit, I've had few problems recently, but so far it works and gets the job done. I am now in the process of debating if I should revert down to one of the most stable ROMs for this phone (CM7.2) or to continue rocking this current ROM and try to see if I can help in terms of fixing current issues.
My classes start tomorrow! I will post an in-depth update on my issues this weekend!

I am using AOCP now but currently looking for a bug-free ROM.
As far as I know, there are still a few bugs in 4.2.2 including:
1. Headset heat up when plugged in.
2. Green line in camera.
3. Signal drop after a missing call.
4. Camera flash delay.
Is there any 4.1 and above ROM without those problems? Please let me know. 1. and 3. is really annoying to me. Thank you!

Keep an eye on N_otori0us_, he's been really making some moves trying to fix 1. 2 you usually see patches from OP's in thier thread to fix it.
At least you don't have the screen flicker bug also.

If you see a bug in my roms. Tell me lol.
There's a fix for green line that coderzs made. And the. 64 is a temporary fix for the headset heat.
Not sure what else to fix though...
Sent from my myTouch 4g using xda app-developers app
putting work in
I was referring to how you are trying to fix the headset issue overall, not how you have any bugs in your roms.
Now I've been using PACman_GLACIER 19.3 for 2 weeks. Very stable, fast and no bug (except sometimes when it boots up, Link2SD notifies me to hot reboot to make SD partition mount)
You should check out the links in this thread.

Especially those of you who like ViperTouch. They are from a Chinese forum so you'll need to translate but the ROMs can be set to English on setup.
I might call it an end with my current ROM... it is currently becoming way too unstable for my abilities as a daily driver. Current issues include:
1. Battery life - I literally drop from 100% to 60% in a matter of 2 hours only using Wi-Fi for browsing the New York Times.
2. Phone screen flickers when locked (may be linked to battery life)
3. Certain apps that require a camera just do not cooperate
4. Green like in all pictures + picture quality not the same versus when the ROM was installed freash
5. Crashes and freezes a lot
Overall, this ROM was good, but as time progressed, its performance decreased as well.
Currently about to try Albinomans latest Jelly Bean ROM, or even try out the AoCP rom!
