The aim of this thread is to kind of put all the amazing X8 development in a timeline, hopefully you will all help me with rough dates and what the developer did.
With time and more incoming information I will update this thread, hopefully it will be a nice reference to what has happened since we got our X8 from Sony 1.6 Donut. If you did something great please pm me with details and I will write it here or just comment below.

I don't remember exact dates but this is what i remember to have seen on this forum since january-2011 (a little research too):
- need to go back to 1.6 "donut" to get root access
- zdzihu created xrecovery based con cwm recovery for x10mini (thats what we used until cwm recovery was ported to the x8).
- racht started porting eclair AOSP roms and then htc sense roms, eclair and froyo, part of HACKDROID rom series.
- racht started porting early versions of CM7, part of HACKDROID rom series.
- Jerpelea, now known as FXP, started freexperia development in x8, bringing CM7 with libs from sources.
- somewhere in time it became posible to root 2.1 eclair, and custom roms were pre-rooted.
- JIT appeared for stock 2.1.
- "Bootloader unlock" development started (it took months to achieve...)
- Doixanh (later known as "module man" lol) surprised everyone extending capabilities of stock kernel by using kernel modules, synaptic gesture (at this moment it was unknown that there were 2 version of x8 with different digitizers), overclock, undervolt and also he fixed mddi lags.
- somewhere in time (lol) ponanovn ported nobodyAtall's minicm6 for x10mini (froyo) and it became the first really stable rom because it has fixed some issues with random reboots and "super user" apps making device to reboot.
- SU apps reboot fix was ported to almost every rom like hackdroid floyo and gingerbread roms. Froyo roms were pretty good and almost perfect for day to day use. Gingerbread roms lacked camera and fm radio, and there was battery issues with them.
- Doixanh started his new project "FroyoBread", froyo with "good looking" features from gingerbread like crt screen on/off animation and edge glow and it was created from clean sources. This became the greatest froyo release, even today there is people using last version of it. FYI latest versions of hackdroid floyo were based on froyobread.
- ponanovn ported x10mini minicm7 from nobodyAtall (in this point gingerbread roms had vga camera only, from jerpelea freexperia sources)
- kuyagaol created a new CM7 rom, kuyadroid, based on htc legend nightly's, it combines hackdroid cm7 and minicm7 to fix fm radio and bring vga cam.
- AnDyX appeared on the scene and brought us new modules, including real dual touch for x8's with cypress digitizers, force disabling automatic brightness, netfilter and smartass governor.
- Final version of froyobread released, doixanh started a new project called "GingerDX", froyobread exclusive features in a CM7 htc hero (CM7 nightly's) based rom. GingerDX was the first gingerbread rom with fully working camera (the trick was later ported to every cm7 rom). With GingerDX release appeared a lot of "new developers" or soft modders (rom cookers) who created modded versions of gingerdx (even to this day), adding features like bravia engine and xloud (fakes), but mostly changing framework and tweaking it.
- racht silently quit development with his last port of an htc sense rom.
- With a nearly completed cm7 rom from sources jerpelea, now FXP, left x8 development, but now some components libs can be built from sources like wifi, making easier to port to another android version.
- x8 development was almost ending, rom updates were each time less frequent but suddenly the forum member "the_laser" achieved one of the least possible things, x8 bootloader can be unlocked now!, this revived development and custom kernels began to appear, all of them based on FXP kernel sources (FXP was silenty making that).
- first custom kernel: LinuxDX by doixanh, improving perfomance and moving modules to the place where them should be, in kernel. (discontinued).
- new custom kernel from "alfsamsung", Alfs Kernel for GingerDX showing us the real potential of x8, great performance improvements. (with frequent updates is used by a lot of users today).
- nobodyAtall started x8 development with miniCM7 and nAa kernel series combining stability and good performance, with most of the core component built from sources (FXP's way). A lot of kernel components were ported from newer versions of it. New features in this combo like native wifi tethering. Very popular rom like GingerDX.
- Bad news for some users, devices manufactured past week 29 on 2011 can get hardbricked if they try to unlock bootloader, forcing them to stick to stock kernel.
- Achotjan bring us Sony Ericsson Debrand Engine, and we have a taste of what it would be an official gingerbread update from SE.
- First tastes of AOSP Ice Cream Sandwich ICS began to appear, stock and custom kernel, pretty buggy and not for daily use.
- paul-xxx started developing CM9, only for nAa kernel. Few bugs with wifi and camera and HW acceleration not working.
- doixanh is not longer available to support GingerDX, B.Jay and eagleeyetom continues "the fun".
- nobodyAtall, with new libs from qualcomm created miniCM9, almost fully working ICS rom with HW acceleration, some issues and not working camera. For this a new kernel showed up, nAa ICS kernel based on nAa kernel. Due to this paul-xxx quit developing.
- what will happen next??
ps: yeah... I have a lot of free time today
Maybe even a second one or is that too much?
Well my x8 came with donut so i assume you must go further back in the timeline..

I don't remember exact dates but this is what I remember to have seen on this forum since january-2011 (a little research too):
X8 Development History (summary).
- To get root access, downgrade to 1.6 "Donut" was a must.
- zdzihu created xrecovery for x10mini based on cwm recovery sources (that's what we used until cwm recovery was ported to the x8).
- racht started porting eclair AOSP roms and then HTC Sense roms, Eclair and Froyo, part of HACKDROID rom series.

- Jerpelea, now known as FXP, started FreeXperia development in x8, bringing CM7 with libs from sources.
- Somewhere in time it became posible to root 2.1 eclair, and custom roms were pre-rooted.
- JIT appeared for stock 2.1.
- Blagus started "Bootloader unlock" development (it took months to achieve...).
- First try to port a Froyo MIUI by as-mario (now XperianPro), sadly it never worked fine and the project was abandoned. There wasn't sources available to properly port it.
- doixanh (later known as "module man" lol) surprised everyone extending capabilities of stock kernel by using kernel modules, synaptic gesture, overclock, undervolt and also he fixed mddi lags (at this moment it was unknown that there were 2 version of x8 with different digitizers).
- Somewhere in time (lol) ponanovn started porting nobodyAtall's MiniCM6 for x10mini (Froyo) and it became the first really stable rom because it has fixed some issues with random reboots and "super user" apps making device to reboot.

- doixanh started his new project "FroyoBread", Froyo with "good looking" features from Gingerbread like crt screen on/off animation and edge glow and it was created from clean sources, but based on racht's work on HACKDROID Floyo to make everything work. This became the greatest Froyo release, even today there is people using it's latest version. FYI latest versions of HACKDROID Floyo were based on FroyoBread.
- ponanovn ported x10mini's MiniCM7 from nobodyAtall (in this point gingerbread roms had vga camera only, from jerpelea's FreeXperia sources).
- Final version of FroyoBread released, doixanh started a new project called "GingerDX", FroyoBread exclusive features in a CM7 HTC Hero nightly's based rom. GingerDX was the first Gingerbread rom with fully working camera (the trick was later ported to every CM7 rom). With GingerDX release appeared a lot of "new developers" (soft modders or rom cookers) who created modded versions of GingerDX (even to this day), adding fake features like Bravia Engine and Xloud, but mostly theming framework and tweaking it.
- A bad day for x8 users, racht silently quit development with his last port of an HTC Sense rom.
- With a nearly completed CM7 rom from sources, jerpelea, now FXP, left x8 development, but now some components libs could be built from sources, like Wi-Fi, making easier to port to another android version.
- The most active developer on that moment, doixanh, couldn't continue developing cause he had no x8 anymore but thanks to forum member "deedii", who organized a sucessful "donate to doixanh" thread and motivated people to support doixanh, he was able to get another x8 and continue developing GingerDX.
- x8 development was almost ending, rom updates were each time less frequent but suddenly the forum member the_laser achieved one of the least possible things, the x8 bootloader could be unlocked now! take that SE!, this revived development and custom kernels began to appear, some of them based on FXP kernel sources (FXP was silenty making that).
- First custom kernel: LinuxDX by doixanh, improving perfomance and moving modules to the place where them should be, in kernel. (discontinued).
- New custom kernel from alfsamsung, Alfs Kernel for GingerDX showing us the real potential of x8, great performance improvements. (with frequent updates is used by a lot of users today).
- nobodyAtall (nAa) started x8 development with MiniCM7 and nAa kernel series (based on stock kernel sources) combining stability and good performance, with most of the core component built from sources (FXP's way). A lot of kernel components were ported from newer versions of it. New features in this combo like native wifi tethering. Very popular rom like GingerDX.
- Forum member XDA-RK creates an updated version of FroyoBread called FroyoPro, latter it becames maintained by member lrakkarl.
- lrakkarl makes a patch allowing froyo users to use custom kernels, especially Alfs Kernel.
- Bad news for some users, devices manufactured past week 29 on 2011 (11W29+) can get hardbricked if they attemp to unlock bootloader, forcing them to stick to stock kernel, apparently SE fixed the security hole that was used to bypass bootloader, on newer devices.
- Achotjan bring us Sony Ericsson Debrand Engine, and we had a taste of what it would be an official gingerbread update from SE.
- First tastes of AOSP Ice Cream Sandwich ICS began to appear thanks to forum member troufiniou, stock and custom kernel, pretty buggy and not for daily use.
- paul-xxx started developing CM9, only for nAa kernel. Few bugs with wifi and camera and HW acceleration not working.
- MIUI sources are released. First ports, by JahlovePL, are based on paul's CM9. A new version comes, MIUI gingerbread based on CM7 rc2. They have few bugs and are not fully translated from chinesse.
- doixanh is not longer available to support GingerDX, B.Jay and eagleeyetom continues "the fun".
- djnilse starts to build CM7 version of alfs kernel, for roms that have wifi built from sources like MiniCM7.
- nobodyAtall, with new adreno libs from qualcomm creates MiniCM9, almost fully working ICS rom with HW acceleration, some issues and not working camera. For this a new kernel showed up, nAa ICS kernel based on nAa kernel. Due to this paul-xxx quit developing.
- nobodyAtall's ICS rom MiniCM9 is almost bugfree, camera was fixed. The only bug left is not working HW encoding/decoding due to missing OpenMAX OMX codecs for ARMv6.
- TeamFun (doixanh, B.Jay, eagleeyetom and djnilse) releases IScreamDX, CM9 source based rom. It uses nAa ICS kernel.
- JBMiniProject releases new android version JellyBean based on CyanogenMod 10 sources.
- nobodyAtall stops development of MiniCM7 and MiniCM9 and releases MiniCM10, CM10 (JellyBean) based rom with only HW Video encoding / decoding not working.
- nobodyAtall makes old OMX libs to work on ICS and releases MiniCM9 3.0.5., a fully working ICS rom with HW Video encoding/decoding finally working so no issues remaining on camera.
- nobodyAtall release MiniCM10 4.0.2, a fully working JB rom with HW Video encoding/decoding finally working so no issues remaining on camera. This release makes xperia x8 the first msm7x27 device to have a fully working Jellybean rom, a really great achievement of nobodyAtall.
- nobodyAtall gives to our x8's more power upgrading his 2.6.29.6 jb kernel to 2.6.32.60 version.
- Development of GingerDX is now stopped/discontinued, the last version is v031b.
- X8 section in forum is moved to "Legacy & Low Activity Devices" section.

So I havent visited the threads for months and im wondering what kind of updates/changes have we gotten on the x10? The time I left was probably a few weeks after we got 2.1 on it. So im wondering how we are doing in terms of Android version, multitouch, etc. The number of threads some with 2.1 some about 2.2 and 2.3 are all too confusing so it would be nice if someone could update me.
Thanks.
2.2 custom ROM ( Free X10 by Z ) is almost stable, only video recording not working.
2.3 custom ROM ( by jerpelea ) is out for beta, with few issues, not yet ready for everyday use.
MIUI, SENSE, Cyanogen mods are being developed, but not as complete as other ones.
Dual touch update for Japan is out, the kernel has been extracted by Bin4ry and Dualtouch can be enabled on every ROM right now.

I think that is personal, and depends of what you want from your phone. I didn´t like the stock eclair ROM. I prefer using Gingerbread which is based on cyanongenmod for other devices.
Froyo and Gingerbread ARE Cyanogen...
i recommend you froyobread, bugless and easy to use..
For me, I worked my way up to the latest OS, that way I got to experience them all, which gave me an overall opinion of which I liked most and that is Gingerbread. Give it a try, what could you lose?
try froyobread v23b, it's based on froyo
it's final release and bugless
but if you don't mind updating like every 2 days
try ginger dx, it's based on gingerbread
still in development so you might find any bug.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=921637
Here you go!
it's for new peeps here!
Try froyobread V.022 (Froyo) if you want xperia active launcher try V.023 but V.023 Optimized all listview and improved 2d perfomace scrolling/flinging disabled
Try GingerDX V.06 (Gingerbread) it's stable enough but it's still have bugs on Rooted file explorer (busybox problem)
I've used floyo... and now i use GingerDX
i was just wondering what these kernels do . need less of that i read everywhere that our devs were waiting for huawei to release official 2.3 so they can get the kernel .
isnt it possible that we can make our own kernels or now as we have new kernel so can we expect new cm7 or xygen or miui to come out with an awesome flawless rom ????? surely the touch is much smoother on official 2.3 n camera has significant improvement ( UI is childish )

On the "what these kernels do..." check wikipedia, Android Kernels are based on Linux kernels. In just a few words kernels provide the basic functionality for applications to work (devices, memory management, process management)
Developers wait for the kernel source code (which is a 2.6.35 kernel), not the binary that is included in the official ROM (thankfully, Huawei is obligated to release the source).
When kernel source is released, any developers that want to build, tweak, study, copy, use the kernel source can work their magic *crosses fingers for CM7*
I've made a list of all JB,ICS and GB ROMS & KERNELS for the I9000 out here .
I know you may find a couple of threads like this. But the main difference is this thread contains all the three versions of android.
I will update the thread on a daily basis(almost daily) and i would like to add a few info about every rom .
It will help you to you choose an JB ,ICS or GB Rom or Kernel.
Since there are a lot a roms coming up daily based on CM9/AOKP and other people are just adding applications/MODS and re-ziping the rom which are of no use so i will add only those rom which have significant changes in it.
I will try to add ROMs from other sources also if they are worthy enough.

Froyo ROMS [2.2]
1)XenoROM R1
-Stock ROM
-Custom XenoROM kernel
-Great performance
-Froyo based, 2.2 ROM
Link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905758
Opinion : A fast, lightweight ROM with great performance. An excellent ROM for users looking for a taste of the dated Froyo UI. However, it is not generally preferred due to the release of newer Android platforms such as 2.3 and 4.0
2)Japanese Jellyfish RLS8
-Custom ROM
-Custom kernel
-Overclockable
-Froyo based, 2.2 ROM
Link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=891314
Opinion : A smooth custom ROM with an overclocked kernel. One of the most popular ROMs before the release of GingerBread ROMs for the ZTE Blade. However, it is not generally preferred due to the release of newer Android platforms such as 2.3 and 4.0

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253942
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232614
Opinion : One of the early GingerBread builds for the ZTE Blade, the EliteMovil series of ROMs provide a great deal of customization to users coming from stock ROMs. Features such as SD ext support, overclockable kernels, etc. give EliteMovil’s ROMs a certain flair over the stock ROMs
2)XenoROM R4
-Hardware Acceleration
-A2SD support
-Bloatware free
-Many preinstalled apps
-Gingerbread based, 2.3 ROM
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910356
Opinion : After XenoROM R2’s success, the R3 GingerBread version was highly anticipated. Featuring bloatware free menus, various preinstalled apps and A2SD support, this is a must have for users looking for a clean GingerBread ROM
3)GingerStirFry Gen1 + Gen2 by Wbaw
-Darktremor A2SD modified by wbaw
-CM7 apps like email, gallery and keyboard
-BusyBox 1.19
-MonteCarlo libs
-Smooth, Great performance

Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204407

-Stable ROM
-Great UI
-Gingerbread based, 2.3 ROM
Link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1479188

6)CyanMobile by SquadZone
-Out of this world customization options
-Theme chooser
-Various tweaks and mods
-Smooth, good performance
-CyanogenMod 7 spin-off
-Gingerbread based, 2.3 ROM
Link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1532921
Opinion : If customization is all you care about, this ROM is definitely for you. With virtually unlimited customization options and several bug-fixing updates , this one is for people who cant get enough visual modification
7) Swedish Snow
-Stock ROM
-Smooth, good performance
-One of the fastest Blade ROMs
-Gingerbread based, 2.3 ROM
Link : http://www.modaco.com/topic/350875-romgen2-swedish-snow-rls7-android-235/
Opinion : Even as the Blade joins the rank of stable ICS phones, Swedish Snow is still one of the most widely used ROMs. With smooth performance, zero lags and quick responsiveness, it is considered the smoothest Blade ROM and is popular among users who prefer performance over visuals
IceCreamSandwich ROMS [4.0+]
1)CyanogenMod 9
-ICS UI
-Original CyanogenMod9
-Unstable
-No updates since quite a while
Link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429539
Opinion : This is the original CyanogenMod 9 unofficial build for the ZTE Blade. At the time of release it was highly anticipated as THE ICS ROM for the ZTE Blade, however due to absence of updates and lack of support, it remains at an early alpha stage, with developers focusing on ColdFusionX
2)BurstLam’s AOKP
-Great ICS AOKP
-ICS GoogleApps
-ICS UI
-Adjustable Softbuttons
Link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429539
Opinion : As opposed to ColdFusionX, Burstlam chooses to take time and make major differences tan to release small updates. Currently on Alpha 6.3, the only features not working are YouTube HQ, Video Recording and FM Radio. Hopefully the next update will fix these issues
3)ColdFusionX
-Fully Stable ICS ROM
-Hardware Acceleration
-OpenMaXX camera drivers
-Qualcomm drivers
-CM Repos
Link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429539
WP7 Themed : http://www.modaco.com/topic/355702-romcm9wp7-styledlink-up/
Opinion : ColdFusionX is the most favored ICS ROM to date. With beautifully fast updates and minimal bugs, this looks to be a promising ICS ROM. However, some features like WiFi tethering, YouTube HQ and Voice Typig aren’t working, though it is fit for daily use
4)MIUI v4
-MIUI user interface
-ICS themed
-Smooth UI
Link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429539
Opinion : This one’s for all MIUI fans. Combining the sleekness of MIUI and the beauty of the ICS user in one ROM, MIUI v4 is a great ROM optimized for daily usage
5) KonstaKANG
-Slim ICS ROM
-Fast, smooth
-Development stage similar to ColdFusionX
Link : http://www.modaco.com/index.php?/to....]-CyanogenMod-9---KonstaKANG-(Android-4.0.4)
Opinion : With a small partition requirement and minimal bugs, this looks to be a promising ICS ROM. However, some features like WiFi tethering, YouTube HQ and Voice Typig aren’t working, though it is fit for daily use.
6) ParanoidAndroid
-Hybrid Tablet UI
-Fast, smooth
-Port from ZTE Skate
Link : http://www.modaco.com/topic/355347-romport-paranoid-android-updated-020712/
Opinion : A much hyped and awaited ROM, ParanoidAndroid brings the tablet UI to the ZTE Blade screen. With features like the tablet home launcher and dual pane settings, ParanoidAndroid surely catches the eye
7) ParanoidAndroid
-High Stability
-Good battery life
-ICS 4.0.4 ROM
Link : http://www.modaco.com/topic/355540-eco-blade-aiming-for-stability-and-battery-efficiency/
Opinion : This is a relatively new ICS ROM aimed at stability and battery life
JellyBean ROMs [4.1+]
1) CyanogenMod 10
-JellyBean based [4.1.1]
-Camera, GPS, Tethering, Headphones and FM Radio not working
-Project Butter accelerated
KonSTAT : http://www.modaco.com/topic/355903-devrom-cyanogenmod-10-android-411/
Burstlam : http://bbs.hiapk.com/forum.php?mod=...=page=1&filter=typeid&typeid=4361&typeid=4361
Opinion : So here we have it. JellyBean for our Blade. One of the first armv6 devices to get it. And it's surprisingly quite stable compared to the early ICS builds. With almost everything except camera, gps, tethering, headphones and radio working, this is not for daily use but is great for a little taste of the latest Android version

Everyone gets that but the updates are by now months old and he's providing direct links rather than links to the changelog-download pages.
CFX is two versions newer and that is the least outdated.
It's just not working if the thread starter doesn't want to spend the time updating the info, that might hurt the threadstarters feelings but still, running old versions just to spare his feelings?
Just go to http://blade.az.pl/ and copy the info, it would take five seconds out of every day.
Or just redirect to there, they have the newest of everything including CFX.
ColdFusionX is the only one that has the Alpha 13 tag. The rest are all linked to the roms threads here on xda. If u want the Changelog, follow the link and read it in the thread
Where, if I may ask, are the direct links?

I think you should add CM7 KANGs from http://blade.windows98.co.uk/ (targetbsp's one).
They feature some custom libs that improve 3d perfomance and on that page is linked also upgraded gapps (for Gingerbread) and an alternative kernel that fix battery issues on CM 7.2.
