So I havent visited the threads for months and im wondering what kind of updates/changes have we gotten on the x10? The time I left was probably a few weeks after we got 2.1 on it. So im wondering how we are doing in terms of Android version, multitouch, etc. The number of threads some with 2.1 some about 2.2 and 2.3 are all too confusing so it would be nice if someone could update me.
Thanks.
2.2 custom ROM ( Free X10 by Z ) is almost stable, only video recording not working.
2.3 custom ROM ( by jerpelea ) is out for beta, with few issues, not yet ready for everyday use.
MIUI, SENSE, Cyanogen mods are being developed, but not as complete as other ones.
Dual touch update for Japan is out, the kernel has been extracted by Bin4ry and Dualtouch can be enabled on every ROM right now.

Your choice is between cm7 or a edited version of the stock rom with a costum kernel. Personally I took the stock rom and modded it to my likings (launcher pro, desktop visualiser, a lot of bloatware removed). As for the kernel I used the excellent one blagus provides. CM7 isn't fully functional at this time of writing (no camera etc.).
Kernel from blagus: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128272 This is the best kernel available in my opinion.
bloatware removal: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046699
Theming software I used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134390 lots of screenshots (mine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=655045&d=1310671105)

THANKS alot Swen.
But I have one question Im new to the xperia play and I just bootloaded and rooted it.
But I can't find a guide on how to install the kernal or rom.
Hmm I installed the Blagus Kernel with fastboot and Im having a problem with the WIFI.
Anyone know why?
Could someone tell me how to get my WIFi working again?
Hi all,
For everyone asking about custom roms ont 2.3.4 here is the situation :
For everyone who have upgraded the MS2 to the Official 2.3.4, no step back is possible to Froyo 2.2 or 2.2.2.
custom ROMs based on Froyo will not work (like CM7/9 from Tezet.)
=> Someone will have to build on based on the 2.3.4 kernel.
custom ROMs based on Chinese GB seems to work...
=> MS2Ginger for exemple.
custom ROMS based on Defy+ ROMs ?
So, who want that the CM or MIUI ROMs are ported to the newer Motorola kernel ? (So everyone could choose between BLUR, CM and others ?)
I say it on an other thread that the ms2ginger and the argen2stone roms are running on an ms2 with stock gb rom. Somebody must make an cm7 with the 2.3 kernel than wie can use customroms.
thanks for your thread.
But my question is, this official rom 2.3.4 does work better than froyo? or the custom rom 2.3.7 de CM7? It might be a dumb question or it's answered in another thread, if that case sorry.
Thanks
Yes i want Miui with the new kernel ! For a better touchsreen sensitivity for eg.
I try Argen2Stone 2.7 RE but i dont see adjust scrips and keep the old dialer from stock rom.
The 2.3.4 brings some bug fixes, and some upgrades.
From the kernel point of view, the same release is used (Linux Kernel 2.6.32.9). So no major bug fixes at kernel level for my point of view. Maybe some parameters changed.
The main point is for the "upgraders" to Gingerbread that can't go back to Froyo.

I tryed to flash MS2Ginger but the MS2 doesn't turn on.
I don't know.
could Anyone post how to flash step by step ?
tks
I think that the new kernel can improve MS2 performace so a rom based on the new kernel it's much better than the old modded rom.

I have the same idea...waiting for some MIUI or CM7 based on this new kernel.
I'd like someone who knows what they are doing to de-blur it. I have removed as much as I dare but still have too much moto... rubbish on the phone.
yeah agreed with u guys i wish a custom rom based on new gb 2.3.4

or new FR
is true. I think it's time to leave the kernel of froyo that is old and start to compile with the new kernel brings improvements and is of GB!
GB kernel is in fact the same linux kernel version as froyo kernel, so there are not any improvements except for some minor patches.... So no reason to leave froyo.
I just don't get why you all guys updated to GB and then you all crying, you can't use custom roms and that froyo kernel is old and why gingerbread isn't used... GB kernel in custom roms isn't high priority in dev right now. Deal with it. GB kernel don't bring any valuable improvements, so only reason to leave froyo and get in GB are you all, who did that mistake and upgraded to official GB without even reading the forum here (because it was already written so many times there...).
No offense please, I'm just sayin' that GB kernel in custom roms don't have high priority, because of missing downgrade capability and because they don't bring nothing so exciting and big or valuable, nothing worth. So when dev update to GB, he can't go back to froyo - and this is quite big limitation...
Actually CM9 does work over Euro GB kernel. It is based on Chinese GB kernel. And I must say Tezet has made some really good progress with CM9.
And Defy ROMs based on Defy+ kernel have also been proved to work on Euro GB kernel.
These ROMs work if we remove devtree.img and boot.img from the update.zip and thus only flash system.
So I guess it is only a matter of time.

No crying here, just discussion, which is what the forum is for. What was your point?
may be it's better to find a way to downgrade.

I think I said my point clearly... But once again then:
I'm just sayin' that GB kernel in custom roms don't have high priority, because of missing downgrade capability and because they don't bring nothing so exciting and big or valuable, nothing worth. So when dev update to GB, he can't go back to froyo - and this is quite big limitation...
And don't take my words too personal. Easy man, easy...
Sometimes it's cool to have stock ROM. But,it will be much cooler if we can switch to custom ROM's. Stock ROMs are slower and less free RAM than CM7 or MIUI. Now,I'm getting bored with MS2Ginger2.1.
All we have to do is just wait..
hi, did anyone manage to overclock after updated to stock 2.3?
android overclock doesn't work anymore after i updated
The aim of this thread is to kind of put all the amazing X8 development in a timeline, hopefully you will all help me with rough dates and what the developer did.
With time and more incoming information I will update this thread, hopefully it will be a nice reference to what has happened since we got our X8 from Sony 1.6 Donut. If you did something great please pm me with details and I will write it here or just comment below.

I don't remember exact dates but this is what i remember to have seen on this forum since january-2011 (a little research too):
- need to go back to 1.6 "donut" to get root access
- zdzihu created xrecovery based con cwm recovery for x10mini (thats what we used until cwm recovery was ported to the x8).
- racht started porting eclair AOSP roms and then htc sense roms, eclair and froyo, part of HACKDROID rom series.
- racht started porting early versions of CM7, part of HACKDROID rom series.
- Jerpelea, now known as FXP, started freexperia development in x8, bringing CM7 with libs from sources.
- somewhere in time it became posible to root 2.1 eclair, and custom roms were pre-rooted.
- JIT appeared for stock 2.1.
- "Bootloader unlock" development started (it took months to achieve...)
- Doixanh (later known as "module man" lol) surprised everyone extending capabilities of stock kernel by using kernel modules, synaptic gesture (at this moment it was unknown that there were 2 version of x8 with different digitizers), overclock, undervolt and also he fixed mddi lags.
- somewhere in time (lol) ponanovn ported nobodyAtall's minicm6 for x10mini (froyo) and it became the first really stable rom because it has fixed some issues with random reboots and "super user" apps making device to reboot.
- SU apps reboot fix was ported to almost every rom like hackdroid floyo and gingerbread roms. Froyo roms were pretty good and almost perfect for day to day use. Gingerbread roms lacked camera and fm radio, and there was battery issues with them.
- Doixanh started his new project "FroyoBread", froyo with "good looking" features from gingerbread like crt screen on/off animation and edge glow and it was created from clean sources. This became the greatest froyo release, even today there is people using last version of it. FYI latest versions of hackdroid floyo were based on froyobread.
- ponanovn ported x10mini minicm7 from nobodyAtall (in this point gingerbread roms had vga camera only, from jerpelea freexperia sources)
- kuyagaol created a new CM7 rom, kuyadroid, based on htc legend nightly's, it combines hackdroid cm7 and minicm7 to fix fm radio and bring vga cam.
- AnDyX appeared on the scene and brought us new modules, including real dual touch for x8's with cypress digitizers, force disabling automatic brightness, netfilter and smartass governor.
- Final version of froyobread released, doixanh started a new project called "GingerDX", froyobread exclusive features in a CM7 htc hero (CM7 nightly's) based rom. GingerDX was the first gingerbread rom with fully working camera (the trick was later ported to every cm7 rom). With GingerDX release appeared a lot of "new developers" or soft modders (rom cookers) who created modded versions of gingerdx (even to this day), adding features like bravia engine and xloud (fakes), but mostly changing framework and tweaking it.
- racht silently quit development with his last port of an htc sense rom.
- With a nearly completed cm7 rom from sources jerpelea, now FXP, left x8 development, but now some components libs can be built from sources like wifi, making easier to port to another android version.
- x8 development was almost ending, rom updates were each time less frequent but suddenly the forum member "the_laser" achieved one of the least possible things, x8 bootloader can be unlocked now!, this revived development and custom kernels began to appear, all of them based on FXP kernel sources (FXP was silenty making that).
- first custom kernel: LinuxDX by doixanh, improving perfomance and moving modules to the place where them should be, in kernel. (discontinued).
- new custom kernel from "alfsamsung", Alfs Kernel for GingerDX showing us the real potential of x8, great performance improvements. (with frequent updates is used by a lot of users today).
- nobodyAtall started x8 development with miniCM7 and nAa kernel series combining stability and good performance, with most of the core component built from sources (FXP's way). A lot of kernel components were ported from newer versions of it. New features in this combo like native wifi tethering. Very popular rom like GingerDX.
- Bad news for some users, devices manufactured past week 29 on 2011 can get hardbricked if they try to unlock bootloader, forcing them to stick to stock kernel.
- Achotjan bring us Sony Ericsson Debrand Engine, and we have a taste of what it would be an official gingerbread update from SE.
- First tastes of AOSP Ice Cream Sandwich ICS began to appear, stock and custom kernel, pretty buggy and not for daily use.
- paul-xxx started developing CM9, only for nAa kernel. Few bugs with wifi and camera and HW acceleration not working.
- doixanh is not longer available to support GingerDX, B.Jay and eagleeyetom continues "the fun".
- nobodyAtall, with new libs from qualcomm created miniCM9, almost fully working ICS rom with HW acceleration, some issues and not working camera. For this a new kernel showed up, nAa ICS kernel based on nAa kernel. Due to this paul-xxx quit developing.
- what will happen next??
ps: yeah... I have a lot of free time today
Maybe even a second one or is that too much?

I don't remember exact dates but this is what I remember to have seen on this forum since january-2011 (a little research too):
X8 Development History (summary).
- To get root access, downgrade to 1.6 "Donut" was a must.
- zdzihu created xrecovery for x10mini based on cwm recovery sources (that's what we used until cwm recovery was ported to the x8).
- racht started porting eclair AOSP roms and then HTC Sense roms, Eclair and Froyo, part of HACKDROID rom series.

- Blagus started "Bootloader unlock" development (it took months to achieve...).
- First try to port a Froyo MIUI by as-mario (now XperianPro), sadly it never worked fine and the project was abandoned. There wasn't sources available to properly port it.
- doixanh (later known as "module man" lol) surprised everyone extending capabilities of stock kernel by using kernel modules, synaptic gesture, overclock, undervolt and also he fixed mddi lags (at this moment it was unknown that there were 2 version of x8 with different digitizers).

This became the greatest Froyo release, even today there is people using it's latest version. FYI latest versions of HACKDROID Floyo were based on FroyoBread.

With GingerDX release appeared a lot of "new developers" (soft modders or rom cookers) who created modded versions of GingerDX (even to this day), adding fake features like Bravia Engine and Xloud, but mostly theming framework and tweaking it.
- A bad day for x8 users, racht silently quit development with his last port of an HTC Sense rom.
- With a nearly completed CM7 rom from sources, jerpelea, now FXP, left x8 development, but now some components libs could be built from sources, like Wi-Fi, making easier to port to another android version.
- The most active developer on that moment, doixanh, couldn't continue developing cause he had no x8 anymore but thanks to forum member "deedii", who organized a sucessful "donate to doixanh" thread and motivated people to support doixanh, he was able to get another x8 and continue developing GingerDX.
- x8 development was almost ending, rom updates were each time less frequent but suddenly the forum member the_laser achieved one of the least possible things, the x8 bootloader could be unlocked now! take that SE!, this revived development and custom kernels began to appear, some of them based on FXP kernel sources (FXP was silenty making that).

A lot of kernel components were ported from newer versions of it. New features in this combo like native wifi tethering. Very popular rom like GingerDX.
- Forum member XDA-RK creates an updated version of FroyoBread called FroyoPro, latter it becames maintained by member lrakkarl.
- lrakkarl makes a patch allowing froyo users to use custom kernels, especially Alfs Kernel.
- Bad news for some users, devices manufactured past week 29 on 2011 (11W29+) can get hardbricked if they attemp to unlock bootloader, forcing them to stick to stock kernel, apparently SE fixed the security hole that was used to bypass bootloader, on newer devices.
- Achotjan bring us Sony Ericsson Debrand Engine, and we had a taste of what it would be an official gingerbread update from SE.
- First tastes of AOSP Ice Cream Sandwich ICS began to appear thanks to forum member troufiniou, stock and custom kernel, pretty buggy and not for daily use.
- paul-xxx started developing CM9, only for nAa kernel. Few bugs with wifi and camera and HW acceleration not working.
- MIUI sources are released. First ports, by JahlovePL, are based on paul's CM9. A new version comes, MIUI gingerbread based on CM7 rc2. They have few bugs and are not fully translated from chinesse.
- doixanh is not longer available to support GingerDX, B.Jay and eagleeyetom continues "the fun".
- djnilse starts to build CM7 version of alfs kernel, for roms that have wifi built from sources like MiniCM7.
- nobodyAtall, with new adreno libs from qualcomm creates MiniCM9, almost fully working ICS rom with HW acceleration, some issues and not working camera. For this a new kernel showed up, nAa ICS kernel based on nAa kernel. Due to this paul-xxx quit developing.
- nobodyAtall's ICS rom MiniCM9 is almost bugfree, camera was fixed. The only bug left is not working HW encoding/decoding due to missing OpenMAX OMX codecs for ARMv6.
- TeamFun (doixanh, B.Jay, eagleeyetom and djnilse) releases IScreamDX, CM9 source based rom. It uses nAa ICS kernel.
- JBMiniProject releases new android version JellyBean based on CyanogenMod 10 sources.
- nobodyAtall stops development of MiniCM7 and MiniCM9 and releases MiniCM10, CM10 (JellyBean) based rom with only HW Video encoding / decoding not working.
- nobodyAtall makes old OMX libs to work on ICS and releases MiniCM9 3.0.5., a fully working ICS rom with HW Video encoding/decoding finally working so no issues remaining on camera.
- nobodyAtall release MiniCM10 4.0.2, a fully working JB rom with HW Video encoding/decoding finally working so no issues remaining on camera. This release makes xperia x8 the first msm7x27 device to have a fully working Jellybean rom, a really great achievement of nobodyAtall.
- nobodyAtall gives to our x8's more power upgrading his 2.6.29.6 jb kernel to 2.6.32.60 version.
- Development of GingerDX is now stopped/discontinued, the last version is v031b.
- X8 section in forum is moved to "Legacy & Low Activity Devices" section.

So far , I've tried out tytung's NexusHD2 ICS Rom (incredibly bad experience) and a few others , but I haven't seen any completely functional 4.x ROMs for the HD2.Most of them have a lot of bugs and I can't use Viber with them because the phone application crashes when I pick up the phone. So my question is this - is there any ROM based on 4.x that can match a 2.3 ROM in terms of performance and stability ?
I've been searching the forums for an answer but so far I haven't found one.I would be very grateful if someone could just point it out for me.
As far as I know, almost all HD2 ICS ROMs are fully functional (except for viber, it's a known issue).
And if you're having so many problems with tytung's ROMs, I don't know what else to recommend. (Not that this is the best, this is just the least buggy)
I have been using the SlimRom 8.0 on my HD2 since it came out and I have had the smoothest post-GingerBread experience with my phone.
Try it, I don't know about Viber because I don't use it.
I'm running it NativeSD on CLK with Extended TWRP.
