Your choice is between cm7 or a edited version of the stock rom with a costum kernel. Personally I took the stock rom and modded it to my likings (launcher pro, desktop visualiser, a lot of bloatware removed). As for the kernel I used the excellent one blagus provides. CM7 isn't fully functional at this time of writing (no camera etc.).
Kernel from blagus: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128272 This is the best kernel available in my opinion.
bloatware removal: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046699
Theming software I used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134390 lots of screenshots (mine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=655045&d=1310671105)
pre modded stock rom themed and all: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140540
cm7: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128216

THANKS alot Swen.
But I have one question Im new to the xperia play and I just bootloaded and rooted it.
But I can't find a guide on how to install the kernal or rom.

Hmm I installed the Blagus Kernel with fastboot and Im having a problem with the WIFI.
Anyone know why?

Could someone tell me how to get my WIFi working again?

[Q] any preferred Custom ROM?

hi there!
yesterday I rooted my bro's Legend(stock 1.31) with the r4-legend-root pack and then I loaded MoDaCo's cROM. when he asked me to setup the A2SD, I made a second ext2 part., but then after some reboot the apps disappeared and then showed up again, and then almost all of them lost. so I loaded the root ROM again, which randomly reboots(dunno why).
so I ask you to prefer a GOOD, FAST, SLIM ROM with Sense, and probably a non-app-killer-A2SD.
thanks in advance, Adolf(and my bro too )
This is the best custom rom at the moment... (In my opinion)

Azure .. Froyo (Android 2.2)
Thanks, this looks good, but there is no Sense(that's a pity) ):
I think it will be using any *beta* Froyo modified ROM's. Azure 6 was giving me some problems with YouTube video uploads. I switched back to SweetVanilla RLS 3 (EClair 2.1) and I didn't have any issues. Azure is not slim by any means.

You can only get the SenseUI if you use the official ROM(s) by HTC.

[Q] Beginner questions about custom roms

Hi all,
I'm very new in the Android world, so please reply as if i'm a complete bastard
I've got a Galaxy Apollo (i5800), without simlock, running Android 2.1 from Samsung (original rom).
Now I read many thing about roms, jpm, jpf, jpg, jpw, jpz, jpb, etcetera etcetera. Now I really don't know what these terms mean.
The only thing I know, is that I would like to try a good custom rom, with easy installation. Do you guys know about a very user/beginner friendly rom?
And also, do I have to root my phone before I'm able to install a custom rom?
Sorry for my bad english and poor knowledge.
Thanks in advance for your reply

Hello, welcome to the android world!
jpm, jpm, etc are firmware builds of android 2.2 (froyo)
All custom roms have easy installation (with odin).
You dont have to root your phone before installing a rom!
Kyrillos
Check out the Flashing Guide and Videos on Youtube. ..try InDroid Rom or Kyrillo or Lestat Rom..all are good...
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
What do you guys think about this rom? youtube.com/watch?v=NY1cySzOh0U
This rom is based on XXJPM.
Will it work on my i5800, currently firmware version: PDA:JG6 / PHONE:JG3 / CSC:JH2 (BSE), language: Dutch?
Will it be buggy, laggy? Will Samsung Kies still be able to detect my phone after flashing this rom?
And, when I don't like this rom, how easy will it be to get the stock firmware on it?
Last, but not least: is this rom going to drain the battery life of my phone?
Many thanks for the replies

Take a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=986831
You can't update with kies if you have a custom rom. you have to flash back
Thanks for the replies! I'm currently running Indroid 3.0, and it's working perfect!
It was very easy to install the custom rom, which I didn't expect.

Hy, i have also a question:
- If i flash with a custom rom/kernel can i then install official rom from Kies? Or it's irreversible?
Kies only works with official roms as far as I know...
If you flash a custom rom with odin, kies doesn't recognize the phone (and you can not install official rom from kies).
You can however flash an official rom with odin (rom from samfirmware).
- With the official rom kies also works again.
Thanks, i will be watting for the official rom for the 5801 and then i will install custom rom depending on the users feedback.

I think that is personal, and depends of what you want from your phone. I didnĀ“t like the stock eclair ROM. I prefer using Gingerbread which is based on cyanongenmod for other devices.
Froyo and Gingerbread ARE Cyanogen...
i recommend you froyobread, bugless and easy to use..
For me, I worked my way up to the latest OS, that way I got to experience them all, which gave me an overall opinion of which I liked most and that is Gingerbread. Give it a try, what could you lose?
try froyobread v23b, it's based on froyo
it's final release and bugless
but if you don't mind updating like every 2 days
try ginger dx, it's based on gingerbread
still in development so you might find any bug.

Here you go!
it's for new peeps here!
Try froyobread V.022 (Froyo) if you want xperia active launcher try V.023 but V.023 Optimized all listview and improved 2d perfomace scrolling/flinging disabled
Try GingerDX V.06 (Gingerbread) it's stable enough but it's still have bugs on Rooted file explorer (busybox problem)
I've used floyo... and now i use GingerDX

[Q] Market issue

when using 1.6 ROM rooted some apps are not shown in the market like Whats app or Twitter... i'v tried a lot of patched markets and a lot of 1.6 ROMs in this forum .. can anybody tell me whats the problem ?
A lot of apps do not support android 1.6 anymore, most of them require 2.x and higher android versions, i would suggest you to flash 2.x ROM to get those apps..
I just want to recommend you Cyanogen Mod CM7 7.2.0 RC1 ROM. It's fast and smooth, good thing for your phone. I'd say that it's faster than stock 1.6 ROM.

[Q] Returning to Gingerbread

Hello,
You'll have to excuse my relative anonymity with regards to Android. I've always been a BlackBerry user and I've recently switched to a Note and couldn't be happier, but I know little about ROM's, development and so on.
I've rooted my Note and loaded a Custom ROM - imilka's CyanogenMod9, which has been working fantastically. However, I do miss some of the stock TouchWiz applications like S Memo and S Planner. Also, I'd like to return to Gingerbread and simply wait for the official ICS update from Samsung. Custom ROM's are nice and efficient, but for daily use I'm starting to think a stock ROM might be better for me.
My question is, how can I return to the latest stock ROM of the Note, without losing root or bricking my phone?
Thanks in advance, and I apologize if this has been covered someplace else but I couldn't find it.
