For some reason, when i reboot my phone (if it freezes and i do a battery pull), it only goes to hboot after that (engineering hboot). Along with that, in hboot, the power, and both volume keys are unresponsive. I tried removing battery, and sdcard and retrying, i only get to hboot.
The only way i can get out of hboot-loop is to run "fastboot reboot" from a computer (which wont be very convenient when i am not at home)
Does anyone know what could be causing this or how to get out of the loop without a computer? (i was at low battery when my phone froze and got into the h-boot loop..about 10%)
Thanks
EDIT: I somehow solved the problem by going through and pressing every button on the phone twice starting with power and going counter clockwise (power, power, volume up, volume up, volume down, volume down, home, home, menu, menu, trackpad, trackpad, back, back, genius, genius, camera, camera) I don't know how it worked but that's what I did
One of your buttons (VolDown most likely) was stuck and was causing this behavior.

That's what I figured. But when I pressed volume down I could feel it click.. It might have been the actual trigger underneath the button.

Does anyone know if it's possible to process a factory reset on the device using a key combination? My device freezes up immediately upon getting to the wallpaper lock screen.
Try holding down Up+Down volume, then power up. If that doesn't work use a third finger to hold down the camera button, too. One of those combinations did it for me...
Do not do what i just did...
Unless you mean to...
Holding down the camera, and both volume buttons, while powering up the device will bring up a "COLD BOOT" screen. if you release all the buttons, and leave the device alone while that screen sits, your device will boot up like its out of the box...WITH ALL CONTENT DELETED!
Be warned, or be educated; holding down these buttons does not hard boot the device, it resets it to factory.
Power button does not respond at any point.
*EDIT:except after battery out for a long time, then power button WILL turn the phone on, but then continues to not function as per usual.
However, the phone automatically turns on as soon as the battery is placed in, so it's not dead at least.
Also can not get the phone to be recognised on either of two computers (one running Win 7 and the other Vista) always get "device has malfunctioned etc"
Have re-flashed a ROM from SD but same problem. If holding down the Vol Down on start up (putting the battery in) I can get to bootloader, hence the re-flash. But holding down both gets to the hard reset 'warning' screen, but it won't let me press Vol Up to actually do the hard reset.
All in all a frustrating problem which means I have to remove my battery to turn my phone off and have to use the option from Windows Menu to lock the device.
Any help with any of the problems is greatly appreciated.
Also Power Button mechanical function is still normal.
Many thanks.
Sounds like your end key has become faulty as well as your volume up button. Both of witch are common issues, especially the end button, but most peoples volume down button wears out first. This is do to the fact that the end/power key is in constant use from turning on and off the HD2 or from getting MAGLDR to pulled up a bootup for those running NAND Android. Also the volume keys take a lot of wear and tear from constant volume adjustment especially if you listen to alot of music on your HD2. Plus the volume ..down key takes extra wear and tear from being used to enter bootloader.

Yes it does seem that way, however I have had teh battery out over night, when I put it back in this morning it DID NOT automatically initiate the boot sequence. But it did after I pressed the power button, so it must have read it to some extent?
Also when the phone is on I can change the volume up and down as per usual, its all a bit strange.
Any other way to initiate a hard reset other than that menu?
Thanks very much!
It seems you are having a hardware issue, try sending your device to the service centre.
Just got a HTC Wildfire from a friend, that doesnt work, when you turn it on it just launches the boot menu, and nothing else works, the menu can't bet controled with volume rocker it simply just won't work. Any ideas on fixing this one?
btw, if you turn t on holding the volume button down, it shows Hboot instead on fastboot in the upper part.
Can't post the screenshot cause i'm new here :/
is it s-off?

Is it possible to use the optical trackball to go up and down?
So I had the blinking orange light, and vibrating 3 times when I turn the phone off. From what I've read this is because of a broken volume up button, and the phone thinks its being pressed and tries to boot into something it shouldn't.
The other day I booted into recovery (I was going to use the trackpad) but I accidentally hit the volume up button. To my surprise, it worked. So I booted into the bootloader, it works there too.
Does anyone know what might fix this? I originally thought the button was broke, but if CWM and the bootloader can work with it, it must not be, right?
Oh and I did the keytest in CWM and when I press volume up it tells me I'm hitting the volume up key.
Thanks!

I feel like this is a stupid question, but here we go anyway. I'm on an LS980 with TWRP 2.6.3.4.
I can boot into recovery just fine, as long as I use adb reboot recovery, or any of the methods to do a reboot to recovery from software. For the life of me, I can't get the volume down + power key combination to work. This would be no problem, except I'm stuck in a bootloop (my own fault), and can't get to either the software solution or ADB.
Yes, I've followed the directions in which you hold the two buttons, and when the LG logo appears, release and repress them both. I've done this about a million times now, in every different pattern and length of delay I can think of.
If I hold all 3 during boot, I get the "hardware control" screen, with a barcode and my IMEI at the bottom. Download mode, using volume up + plug in USB, works as well. Both volume keys have been functioning fine for controlling volume in software, so they are mechanically sound.
Is there any reason the keys might not work during boot? Is there any other way to reboot to recovery? My only idea is to push the stock image to the phone in download mode, and re-root, etc.
Thanks in advance!
Start with the phone powered all the way down (if you're bootlooping, hold the power button for maybe ~10s until there's a short buzz from the vibrator and the LG logo pops up, then hold it down for a few more seconds to power off).
Hold power+voldown until the LG logo appears. Release them then immediately push them again, and hold for a few seconds.
You'll get a 'Factory hard reset' screen that tells you to press Power to confirm you want to do a factory reset. Push Power a couple of times to confirm this. If you have a custom recovery installed, it won't erase anything, it'll just boot into recovery.
I just tried this, and it worked the first time.
Antinorm -
I'm familiar with that process, and have been trying it nonstop! Here's a video; maybe you could critique my technique?
You don't have to hold both buttons after the release.
1. Hold VolDn + Power until LG Logo appears.
2. Release both buttons for a few seconds
3. Hold only Power Btn
4. You get into Hard Reset
5. Push Power Btn 2 times (For executing reset)
After that the phone will boot into recovery.
Don't do this with plugged in USB cable I don't know why, but it doesn't work if you have a usb connection.
Nope, no luck using just the power button for the second press. Thank you, though! I'll write some more detail of what I see.
Initial state: the boot animation is looping.
I press and hold the power button.
The screen goes blank. I continue to hold the power button.
The LG logo reappears for a moment. If I were to release the power button before this point, the phone would restart.
I do not release the power button; I continue to hold it. The screen goes blank.
I now release the power button. This is the phone in its "off" state. If I plug it in to a power source, a battery charge icon and a percentage is displayed center-screen. Entering download mode from this state works. The phone is not plugged in.
I hold the power and VD buttons together. I've also tried pushing one first, then the other, in either combination.
The LG splash displays.
I release both buttons.
I wait an amount of time. I have tried various values from "as quick as I can move my fingers" to "a solid three-count".
I hold either both buttons (pressing them simultaneously), or just power, and wait.
Time passes.
GOTO 1
Does any of that sound wrong?
Weird. This method works for me. But getting into recovery was a bit of a hassle for me too at the beginning. Your doing seems to be ok... well seems like your only chance is adb right now.

Do you know of any way to ADB without an OS booted or recovery? I don't!
IF your battery is low or almost gone - you can't enter in Recovery with those 2 buttons.
So just charge your battery. I'm using CWM 6.0.4.4 and phone charges battery in this mode. It's slowly, but at the end my battery was 100%.
Now I can go to Recovery with 2 button combo. No download mode for me, but I'll open a new topic for that.

Whelp, sorry. Would have thought you can adb while in download mode. Turns out you can't.
Well i don't have a better idea than you with going stock and start from the beginning.
