Does anyone know if it's possible to process a factory reset on the device using a key combination? My device freezes up immediately upon getting to the wallpaper lock screen.
Try holding down Up+Down volume, then power up. If that doesn't work use a third finger to hold down the camera button, too. One of those combinations did it for me...
Do not do what i just did...
Unless you mean to...
Holding down the camera, and both volume buttons, while powering up the device will bring up a "COLD BOOT" screen. if you release all the buttons, and leave the device alone while that screen sits, your device will boot up like its out of the box...WITH ALL CONTENT DELETED!
Be warned, or be educated; holding down these buttons does not hard boot the device, it resets it to factory.

Hi there;
To get into the bootloader mode, switch phone off and then hold the red/green answer buttons, and then power up the phone, hold this down until you get the 3 different colours on the screen.
*By the way, if anyone more experienced wishes to correct me, feel free*
*Damn Doublepost*
To enter the bootloader:
Hold down the camera button and reset device with the stylus. Keep holding the camera button until you see 'tricolor' bootloader screen.
An alternative way to enter bootloader:
Switch the device off by long pressing O/I (power) button. hold down the camera button while pressing the O/I button about 1 second. Keep holding the camera button until you see 'tricolor' bootloader screen.
Alternative(universal?) bootloader(3)
As almost all htc smartphones with onboard camera, when you push and hold the camera(photo) button, and plug in usb adapter. Even a "stupid" usb power adapter will work.
To hard reset:
Hold down send/reject buttons (green/red at the front) and reset with the stylus; release the stylus but keep holding the buttons till you get 'this will erase all your personal data' message, then press 'action' (big front button) to hard reset.
Good LUck

Flashing back to Onyx = no change

bootloader is reachable and flashing works but the problem with booting is still there
Hi all,
This is my first thread after being around with the availble great roms for awhile, this morning I came across a weird problem, somehow when I try to hard reset my X1 ( 2 silver buttons, reset button with stylus ) it just reboots back, like a soft reset. So instead giving me the hard reset options, it just boots like normal with the SE logo etc.
This is the same when I try too enter the rainbow bootloader screen, device shut off, removed battery and reinserted. But when I press volume down and power button, is just reboots as normal.
The weird thing however is, that I am able to flash roms when I use the ruu tool, it just goes to rainbow screen by itself, I just cant do it myself with the hardware buttons, or do a hard reset! This always worked.. Any ideas ?
Edit : I reflashed hard-spl, did nothing to solve this.
Thanks!
To hard rest, it's the soft keys and the main power button, not the with the reset button.

no as long as your holding the two front soft keys when the phone powers on it should go into hard reset. but it only works properly for me when i use the reset button.
make sure your holding the two front keys until the HR screen comes up, again, don't just press them once, HOLD them until it says in blue writing on grey background, press r to reset then press the r on the keyboard to HReset
this is the same for entering bootloader, hold volume down (and make sure it is down not up) and power until you get the rainbow screen
Weird thing is, I know how to do these two tricks.
I did like 20 hard resets with the two soft buttons etc.
Same goes for bootloader, only that isnt a big problem cause
I found out I can use enterbotloader.exe in windows map. Maybe
theres a shortcut for the hard reset too? Thanks

I have the exakt same problem I use smabergs latest rom, and I cant hard reset or enter tricolor screen, please anybody know how to solve this?
Hi all, guys. So, the problem is the following...
I need to hard reset mi topaz, but the VolUP + VolDown + PowerON method doesn't work. The 1234 method can't be performed since I can't access start menu. I didn't try the VolUP + VolDown + RED button when Topaz is turned on.
I think it's strange that method 1 doesn't work. It boots normally, like ignoring I'm pressing the two Volume buttons...
Any suggestion, solution, guys?
Thanks in advance!
The RED button method worked, but It's strange why the VolUP + VolDown + PowerOn method is still not working...
the soft reset and power buttons do the same thing, it just reboots the phone, and while phone starts to boot, before splash screen appears, is when you have to hold the volume keys.
So it would be;
Power on, THEN hold both volume keys immediately before device starts to boot,
or
Hit soft reset, THEN hold both volume keys immediately before device starts to boot
Did you do exactly this?
To perform a Diamond 2 hard reset
1. With the device turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then briefly press the POWER button.
2. Continue pressing the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons until you see this message on the screen:

This doesn't work. I think you got it mixed up.
ArtieQ wrote the correct way.
No, it works, you just aren't fast enough.
It's just different ways to get to the same place.
The point is, volumes must be pressed as device begins to boot.
I just soft reset and press them and it always works for me.

That's right! Thank you Bruce Inman, IT WORKS!
But the ArtieQ method is the one I always used... and the one that usually worked... but anyway, NOW IT WORKS! Thanks Bruce again!
First time using Android, not sure what to do, the only things I can press are the power button and the volume buttons.
Everything has been fine for its first few days, battery was full. I think it went to a lock screen now I can't get the screen to respond.
RMA it dude
Have you tried a hard reset?
Try and turn off the phone if not try next step
Press and hold the Volume Down key and Power key at the same time.
Continue to hold the keys until the device turns back on.
When the device turns on, release the Power key and continue to hold the Volume Down key until you see the reset screen (Android in a Box).
Release the keys. The phone will restart.
This is assuming you are not rooted, unlocked, or have installed custom recovery.
Hope this helps

Thanks! I had the same issue this morning, this worked fine. No idea why it went blank though.
Thanks. Had the same issue. The phone was turned on and the volume buttons made that clicking sound, but no screen. This worked for me with some modification.
After holding volume down + power I had to release both and press power only to start it again.
Thanks for the solution

I was facing the same problem today. Solved it following the steps you mentioned. Thanks a lot man. :good:
I feel like this is a stupid question, but here we go anyway. I'm on an LS980 with TWRP 2.6.3.4.
I can boot into recovery just fine, as long as I use adb reboot recovery, or any of the methods to do a reboot to recovery from software. For the life of me, I can't get the volume down + power key combination to work. This would be no problem, except I'm stuck in a bootloop (my own fault), and can't get to either the software solution or ADB.
Yes, I've followed the directions in which you hold the two buttons, and when the LG logo appears, release and repress them both. I've done this about a million times now, in every different pattern and length of delay I can think of.
If I hold all 3 during boot, I get the "hardware control" screen, with a barcode and my IMEI at the bottom. Download mode, using volume up + plug in USB, works as well. Both volume keys have been functioning fine for controlling volume in software, so they are mechanically sound.
Is there any reason the keys might not work during boot? Is there any other way to reboot to recovery? My only idea is to push the stock image to the phone in download mode, and re-root, etc.
Thanks in advance!
Start with the phone powered all the way down (if you're bootlooping, hold the power button for maybe ~10s until there's a short buzz from the vibrator and the LG logo pops up, then hold it down for a few more seconds to power off).
Hold power+voldown until the LG logo appears. Release them then immediately push them again, and hold for a few seconds.
You'll get a 'Factory hard reset' screen that tells you to press Power to confirm you want to do a factory reset. Push Power a couple of times to confirm this. If you have a custom recovery installed, it won't erase anything, it'll just boot into recovery.
I just tried this, and it worked the first time.
Antinorm -
I'm familiar with that process, and have been trying it nonstop! Here's a video; maybe you could critique my technique?
You don't have to hold both buttons after the release.
1. Hold VolDn + Power until LG Logo appears.
2. Release both buttons for a few seconds
3. Hold only Power Btn
4. You get into Hard Reset
5. Push Power Btn 2 times (For executing reset)
After that the phone will boot into recovery.
Don't do this with plugged in USB cable I don't know why, but it doesn't work if you have a usb connection.
Nope, no luck using just the power button for the second press. Thank you, though! I'll write some more detail of what I see.
Initial state: the boot animation is looping.
I press and hold the power button.
The screen goes blank. I continue to hold the power button.
The LG logo reappears for a moment. If I were to release the power button before this point, the phone would restart.
I do not release the power button; I continue to hold it. The screen goes blank.
I now release the power button. This is the phone in its "off" state. If I plug it in to a power source, a battery charge icon and a percentage is displayed center-screen. Entering download mode from this state works. The phone is not plugged in.
I hold the power and VD buttons together. I've also tried pushing one first, then the other, in either combination.
The LG splash displays.
I release both buttons.
I wait an amount of time. I have tried various values from "as quick as I can move my fingers" to "a solid three-count".
I hold either both buttons (pressing them simultaneously), or just power, and wait.
Time passes.
GOTO 1
Does any of that sound wrong?
Weird. This method works for me. But getting into recovery was a bit of a hassle for me too at the beginning. Your doing seems to be ok... well seems like your only chance is adb right now.

Do you know of any way to ADB without an OS booted or recovery? I don't!
IF your battery is low or almost gone - you can't enter in Recovery with those 2 buttons.
So just charge your battery. I'm using CWM 6.0.4.4 and phone charges battery in this mode. It's slowly, but at the end my battery was 100%.
Now I can go to Recovery with 2 button combo. No download mode for me, but I'll open a new topic for that.

Whelp, sorry. Would have thought you can adb while in download mode. Turns out you can't.
Well i don't have a better idea than you with going stock and start from the beginning.
