Any other Sprint users hoping for 4.0.4 today? - Nexus S General

4.0.4 on 04/04 would have a nice ring to it. It appears like it's ready to go too. I'm just hoping that they don't wait until the Galaxy Nexus hits shelves to update the NS4G.

I'd have to admit, it would be clever; but with how much of a struggle to get ICS on NS4G has been I strongly believe its unlikely.

Not really since I already have it via CM9.....True Story.

Bugless Beast is on mine. I'm more hoping for the release for all my friends who do not want to root.

I have a sprint cdma ns4g and I got an 4.04. Update 2 weeks ago. No root and no mods for it. Its legit. No ROM

The is a thread in development section for ns4g, Titled *official* where you can install stock unrooted 4.0.4 version and even keep the bootloader locked...

Hmmm already running 4.0.4 not seeing the need to have sprint push an ota

I just want an official radio from Sprint.

I'm hoping for the OTA soon so that when I take my stock 4.0.4 NS4G in for repair they don't ask me a bunch of questions. USB port is giving out and I was afraid if I let it get too far it'd break enough that I wouldn't be able to unroot and lock the bootloader. But I refuse to go back to GB
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk

Seriously, I hope it's this week because this is getting a bit ridiculous. I too want to take my phone for some servicing lol but I have BB 4/3 installed. I am sure if I just lock the bootloader and have BB Sprint will never realize it's a custom ROM

Sprint not gonna give two ****s if its unlocked and rooted take that **** in for service already...its a dev phone u supposed to run customs...

Actually they will care. And it isn't a "dev" phone. Google doesn't support CDMA devices any longer and the Sprint version was never considered a dev phone. Btw, there's no problem flashing stock GB on the device and locking the bootloader. You can do that in 10 minutes and take it back to Sprint.

Officially they do. Many individual reps may not care but I see no reason to risk it.

And I know I could go back to GB but honestly I'm kinda bored of crack flashing. After a couple years of it I'm bored of backing up and restoring and doing clean installs, flashing the new new ROMs and spending more time messing with my phone than actually using it. Stock 4.0.4 meets all of my needs without having to root or mod. I'd like to see what it's like to stay on one ROM for a while. I'm sure I'll change my mind once CM9 starts adding in new features though

EDIT: And now I don't have to worry at all, the 4.0.4 OTA is finally official

Wrong, I have webtop mod. I still got the update notification two days ago (I volunteered for beta test). I didn't actually update so I don't know if the update will go through or fail after the webtop mod.
supposedly there is issues with the update and rooted users? can anyone confirm or deny this?

Sorry I wasn't clear when I said it stop the update I didn't mean it would stop it from downloading it stops it from installing. Webtop mod causes update to fail during install. A couple of posts up umm (sorry I don't know your name you've commented on my posts before) the poster with the new York name said that being deodexed would also cause the update to fail. I can't confirm or deny this but that might be true as its a major change just like the webtop mod is.

Wrong. This doesn't cause any major problems, you simply lose root. There is currently no method of rooting if you update, save flashing back to 1.2.6 or 1.5.2.
I assume this is consistant with all Atrix owners. I've just GladRoot my Bell Atrix, but only so I can use setcpu. I have not modded anything else.
So, hopefully (one day) Bell might update their version of the Atrix, although its not looking good right now

Just a curiosity considering you're from Aussie Land...why did you get the Bell Atrix vs. the AT&T one? Since modding or romming wise, the Bell doesn't have much going on for it due to no SBF

There were 2 reasons
1) I was in Canada at the time skiing around the day of release (17th March), needed a phone that worked on the right bands (my T-Mobile Nexus S didn't work at all) and happened to go past a Bell store while I was grocery shopping that had them in stock for $599. So I got it and had it unlocked in store.
2) Wanted one without the AT&T branding
All in all, I probably should have gone the AT&T version. I didnt know that Bell was so crap releasing updates. Modding wise, I wasn't fussed there was no SBF. I actually don't mind the phone because it has less bloatware on it from what I have seen.
I'm happy to just have root, and it plays the games that I use with absolute smooth operation. Overall, apart from the lack of updates, I'm stoked with it.

Well you did end up getting a nice phone. But just an FYI for the next time you're in Canada that the Nexus S(Tmo) will work on 2 carriers, Wind and Mobilicity, as both use the HSPA 1700 frequency. Only negative is that they are currently only have towers in major metro cities.

Another poll: When will we see an official Epic 4g Gingerbread distribution?

I hope Gingerbread is actually released one day with source and that it will be possible to make the alterations such as removing CIQ that were done with Froyo.
Time will tell.
Its coming, samsung/sprint will not just drop all the $$ they did, and then not put out a relase

We will get it. The new Conquer has it and it is basically an Epic. I think they want to resolve the reboot issue that has plagued new Gingerbread releases from the start. Then they can wash their hands of the Epic and not worry about any more maintenance releases.

I don't blame Sammy one bit, I blame Sprint.
I could be totally wrong, but my personal opinion is if the Epic had been on say Verizon this update would have been long since finished.
Just my IMO.
I want an Epic2 so bad right now, I think the last rdf pushed me over the line I'm affraid to say...
I wish the epic2 had a keyboard. I'm probably going to hold off on getting any new phones until the next good android with a slide out keyboard. in the meantime I really wish they would put out source to our Dev's who seem to have a much better handle on debugging and let us get our cyanogen on. Hell with a good cyanogen 7 rom I probably wouldnt get a new phone for another 2-3 years.
Agreed, I mean I have to face the facts, Ill have this phone for at least 1 more year, and I'm sure longer, since Ill probably wait till the next "thing" comes out after I'm eligable for an upgrade.

I agree here. The International version has reportedly received timely updates. I don't know if they were referring to 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 or an incremental bug fix upgrade but supposedly they don't have this issue. I can't resist anymore. I went to the Sprint store and the Manager is going to hold one for me until I get there on launch day. Maybe having 2 active phones is excessive but I can't wait until my upgrade comes. Also, I am not ready to get rid of my Epic. I still love this phone.

Verizon??? The company with the last Galaxy S phone to get updated? The single carrier not to have any SIGN of the gingerbread update ever coming out for their Galaxy S phone? The carrier that believes that the Droid Charge is a suitable replacement for THE GS2? Sprint is probably the best carrier to bet on for upgrades to non "Droid" phones...

Bring everything if you are returning it. Box, accessories, everything that was in the box. Tell them whatever you want, you have 30 days to return, period. It's not thirty days contingent on their agreement with your reason. You may be on the hook for a restock fee though.

I'm returning my Epic Touch today and going back to a NS4G. One of the main bugs is the phone having LOS (Lost of Service). This normally happens after you end a call. And the only way to correct the issue is by rebooting the phone. In addition, everyone isn't having issues with this bug either. I for one is on my 2nd Epic Touch and I didn't experience it at all on either phones. However, after i rooted my first Epic Touch, I then started to get the LOS bug. I exchanged it because at the time there was no way to return back to stock. Actually other than that, it's really isn't any big bugs with the phone. So make sure you check the Epic Touch forums before you go out and buy one.
And as far as the updates, this may be true...who knows. All I know is the original Epic is still on 2.2...or at least I think it is.
I may go back to the Epic Touch, but I want to see if the iphone is coming to sprint and it has to offer as well as the nexus prime.

What persuaded you to go that route vs. the EVO LTE? I mean, Sense is way toned down with the new 4.0, and seems to not do much but enhance the experience. Just want to point out that I haven't ran a Sense ROM in about 6 months either, but the new version seems nice, and the hardware on the LTE is absolutely sick!
Anyway, I'm asking because I'm in the Nexus vs. EVO LTE vs. GSIII boat right now...

Go check the other evolte threads where scottspa quoted toastch from the twrp thread in the onex forum. HTC has forked up the unlock so badly you cannot flash firmware once unlocked, USB connection is unavailable in recovery mode so you can't flash the boot partition, system partition meaning without and exploit to gain s-off access to the bootloader the htcdev unlock is essentially useless for flashing roms/radios, any kind of p*img.zip, onlyway to flash any kind of upgrades currently is thru an ruu. HTC locking their bootloaders and giving a halfassed unlock method as some kind of joke/tease is why I currently will not purchase another HTC device. I'm not giving my money to a company who claims to support developers by giving them a halfcocked useless tool to unlock what shouldn't be locked in the firstplace. Samsung doesn't lock the bootloader they just implemented a flash count that triggers anytime you flash an unsecured kernel, its easily reset using a USB jig or if you're on ics an app called triangle away by chainfire. Rooting is as simple as running a prerooted firmware thru Odin/heimdall and Samsung is now releasing source prior to the ota and are dropping updates as quickly as they are stable. After I had a Samsung intercept as my first android device Samsung left a bad taste in my mouth and I went to the HTC evo, as if had several HTC winmo phones and liked them. Then I was given an ET4G sprints version of the sgs2 and realized how much of an improvement Samsung has made in the 2 years since I had my intercept. Now HTC goes and forks around with the monkey business of locking the bootloader then giving an unlock method thats about as useful as a broken key to your front door, so now you gotta spend alot of time and effort attempting to break in your own Backdoor with out damaging anything

Jelly Bean Update for VZW Xoom coming "Q4 2012"

The official Motorola Android Update page has been updated and it lists the VZW Xoom's Jelly Bean update as Q4 2012. It claims it'll be an upgrade to "Android 4.1.1" but I highly doubt that. I guarantee it'll be 4.1.2/JZO54K.
Owning a Verizon Xoom and a Verizon Galaxy Nexus is so frustrating from an update standpoint. Even though updates come directly from Google, Verizon's testing and approval requirement takes forever. We know Verizon had been testing the JRO03H ROM (the same 4.1.1 ROM that the WiFi-only model got) as far back as early August. Obviously they couldn't get it approved before 4.1.2 came out, so I'm sure now they're testing 4.1.2 instead. Regardless, assuming Verizon can't find anything to ***** about with the update, we should have it soon.
Once the update rolls out, I'll update the first post here with a link to the OTA file so we can all flash it manually and not have to wait.

I don't like any of the custom ROMs available for the Xoom. They are all full of customization and features that I don't need or want. Plus I get squeamish about custom kernels written by people who have little to no documentation on the hardware. The stock ROM is simple, clean, and stable. As a daily driver, it's perfect for me. Less is more.

As long as it's running the VZW "trygon" 4.0.4/IMM76L firmware, you'll get the update.
