I just broke the phone I got on launch day :-( - EVO 4G General

I bought my phone almost 2 years ago to the day.........and today I broke it. I was going to upgrade my phone but there doesnt seem to be anything worth wasting my upgrade on. I guess I just wanted to say thank you to such an awesome phone, and the fact I just want to get the same one, 2 years later, just goes to show how awesome this phone is.

Good night white spot

My 4th replacement Mogul just went back to Sprint in the mail and I'm settling in with the Touch Pro. I'll miss the hardware buttons , but I won't be missing the white spot or the easy to break usb port. I had fun with the mogul, but it is bar none the least reliable phone and or pda that I've ever owned. I thought I would be sticking with the mogul for at least 6 months to a year more, but the [email protected]#$ keeps breaking and the refurbs Sprint gives out are total crap. Big thanks to all those who have and continue to contribute here. You turned a device that is severely flawed by its manufacturer almost to the point of uselessness into a really fun and useful tool. THANK YOU! Goodnight moguls everywhere.
i had just got a new, possibly refurb, 6800.... and its got the white spot in the SAME location as my old one. it was there when i first turned it on... lower left corner
I don't think there are anymore "new" moguls to be found. If it came a small white box, it's a refurb. When my second to last mogul died, I went to a Sprint repair center. They had 2 moguls to choose from, one had 3 white spots, the other had one really bright one. They wouldn't budge, if I wanted a phone right then, I had to choose from those two or wait till they got more. I chose the one with a single spot that also had a sloppy loose keyboard and as I found, about 1/3 less battery life than my previous moguls. I ended up going through insurance and getting a new Touch Pro.
Heh, small carriers that don't get the Diamond or TP are still sellin' the 6800's new. Ready to get rid of mine!

Man, that sucks!
haha your tellin me, had the day off so i stopped in to bug them about the touch pro haha, they said maybe this summer but i dont know. i do know they took the ppc6800 out of the stores an dont show it online anymore.... hoping for the touch pro
i got lucky and got a new one back in january (verizon) and it does not have the white spot like my last one
i went to my sprint store and they told me to come back on monday for my phone, i went today and they gave me the mogul, i took a quick look at it and the spring to open the keyboard were horrible, it was getting stuck half way...so i told the guy i wasnt going to accept a cellphone that its worst than mine..he told me "but you havent try it yet"..and i told him..."i just did" so they will send another one until Wednesday. If its the same, then i will ask to talk to their manager...because is not only wasting my time but also gas.
and no, im not making up to get the pro, the talk button doesnt work(i just use the screen) and the SD reader sometimes undetected the memory, thats the 2 main problems i found myself with. besides the opportunity to get the pro
I got the white spot on my XV6800.... I guess I'll have to see if I have the time to flash it back to stock and return it to a Verizon store....
Also one of my buttons is starting to go....dam, got a brand new one about 4 months ago and already these problems....
weird thing just happend...they gave 2 moguls!...for so reason the tech thought those 2 phones were mine and were needed some repairs....he told me by tomorrow i'll have those TWO phones replace....i went with 1 and im coming out with 2
well it happened i ended it up having 2 moguls
i have the white spot but not super noticeable... i can live with it... dont have the insurance anymore.....
let me guess, bottom right corner? i have flashed 5 Moguls/Titans/XV6800s and they all had that spot . some more so than others...
mine is on the left, on both of them
Same here bottom left corner well its more towards the center but still cornerish.

Phone died, wouldnt turn on till I popped out the battery. ???

Dunno if this is a common occurrence, I havent seen anyone mention anything similar to this not that its an amazingly unique and spectacular problem, but I just didnt think I would be experiencing this while only having the phone for less than 5 days. First of all, I believe this phone was a return from the store that I bought it from, but I couldnt tell until today when I figured out what was actually supposed to come in the box. Besides that, all of a sudden today it died on me and I didnt think it was the battery since it had 40% left the last time I saw it. Shrugged it off until I plugged it in, at which point it didnt turn on so I decided to pop out the battery and stick it back in and I had a bit of a sigh of relief.
Its been a while since Ive actually had a phone worth caring for, is this something I should return it for and get a new one while I still can? Even if its not a huge problem now, does it have the potential to get worse and worse? *sigh* out of all of the phones Ive had, Ive liked this the most since it was problem free.
I've never had to do this.. But hard freezes are possible.
But if it happens a lot, it might be a doa.. Either way, in most countries you have 10 working days at least for DOA, which allows you to return and get your money back or new unit. Given the complaints about GPS though, it is possible they have tried to resell some returned units as "brand new"
Whats a hard freeze? Its only happened once, but then I dont know when the next time it may happen. My phone has a way of turning off in my pocket multiple times a day due to the case that I use for it, which Im probably going to stop using once I find a suitable pouch. I dont know, maybe that had an effect on it for some ridiculous reason? It mighta turned off and just not turned back on?
Actually..... Come to notice it right now, I cant even turn the phone off without going through the unlock pattern. So, does that mean my phones been intermittently shutting down on its own or something? Ffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu**********************
My phone did this a few times. I had to re-install battery to get it going again. It happened on the 1st, 2nd, and 5th day,...but hasn't happened for about 1 week now. 2 reasons it may have stopped:
1) I got a new battery. My friend was going to return his SGS because of multiple problems, and swapped me batteries before returning it.
2) Did the firmware update (Bell Mobility - canada)
If i were you, i would exchange it for a new one. You don't want to sleep in on an important appointment because your phone turned itself off in the middle of the night! You are paying big bucks for this phone, and deserve a phone that works great.

[Q] Dead Atrix, Fight For New One or "Refurb"?

I bought my Atrix Feb 22 the day it came out. 1 month and 2 weeks later I sent a text message, went to check the phone 20 mins later and it was powered off. Never powered on since (tried everything to fix it). Not rooted, 100% stock with few apps, never dropped, huge Otterbox case and screen protector. I bought it from RadioShack, they said I had to talk to AT&T and that they wouldn't give me a new phone cause its after 30 days.
Anyway, AT&T sent me a refurb...or a used phone...or whatever it is. Well it has some defects of its own. I don't want to run around switching them phone after phone until I get one that works correctly. If I complain do you think I will get a new phone? Would I go to RadioShack or AT&T for that? And lastly, does anyone know what kind of phone I received from them, used, repaired, etc?
My refurb phone does this weird thing at startup, like it wants the lights to turn on but they dont. Also the bottom lights come on when they want and the green message light does as well. Otherwise the phone works fine it appears. Only had it for a day.
I went through this with verizon recently. The best you will get is a refurb. It really sucks because you are most likely never going to get a phone that works.
you can try motorola support, they might ask you to send the phone for repairs though.
If you replace the phone 3 times you can choose a new one oev.

the above post is correct, i did that last year and finally they sent me the better version of the phone i had, and it was new not refurb.
So I need to go through 3 Refurb phones, or 1 New phone and 2 refurb phones?
This is my first refurb after my original new one died. While this phone works, it just doesnt seem to be godly like my original one was. It has restarted a few times, camera app froze, lights at the bottom do what they want, all things my original phone never did.
Sell it on Ebay, get a Nexus S.
Talked to ATT for what seems like the 12th time and they will send me another refurb. I asked the tech how many refurbs do I have to go through before I get a new one and he said he had never herd of anyone getting new phones for their problems. Any comments regarding this?

Thanks for your insight.
Generally, ATT is a pain about giving away new phones. I don't think there is a cut and dry way of getting a new phone, but some people get lucky and others don't. Honestly... most refurbs are alright though. Nothing to get too fussy about unless there is actually something wrong with it. It is agitating though.
Well there is something wrong with this refurb. But if I get another refurb that is defective I honestly should get a new phone. Maybe if it had been a few months I would be ok with a refurb but the phone is a month and a half!

Refurbished Rant

Has anyone had any problems with their refurbished EVOs? So far I've had 4 in the last week and a half, and I have to go back again tomorrow for what I'm going to assume will be my 5th. The power button on my EVO broke, they sent me a refurb. That one had a broken charging port when I got it, another refurb. That one did nothing but a constant boot loop, another refurb. This one came to me with a blown earpiece speaker and an overheating problem that causes the phone to reboot.
I'm sick of spending my family dinner time every day at the Sprint store. Can I be the only one who is having these problems? It seems to me that whoever refurbishes these phones for Sprint has absolutely no quality control department whatsoever. Another (what I consider to be huge) problem is that at one point I was waiting 3 days because the refurb EVOs were on back-order. During that time I had to steal the extra phone on my account back from my mom.
I guess I really can't do much about any of this, but I did write a letter in the hopes that someone will give a damn about just how horrible these refurbished phones are when they reach the consumer. I don't have high hopes though.
It reminds me of the time I drove from Sprint store to Sprint store trying to find a replacement Treo years ago. I hit 5 different stores before I finally got one that wasn't a damaged refurb.
That's the end of my rant. If you're bored enough to have read this far... well, that sucks.
I had my launch day Evo replaced due to the broken power button issue with a refurbished unit. It has worked flawlessly since I got it about 3 weeks ago. It is hardware version 0004.
I had a similar problem to yours. The 3g radio went out on my 31 day old evo, back when i got mine on launch day. Even though I was 1 day over the 30 day exchange policy, they refused to give me a new one. I went through 6 refurbs before they finally decided to give me a new one. Each one was ridiculously bad. One wouldn't turn on. One had a bad charging and hdmi port. One had a whole section of the screen that didn't work. And the worst one, when I got it out of the box, the screen was literally in two pieces. The entire glass part was not glued to the actual phone. I immediately took it back to the store that ordered it for me, and they refused to replace it, saying that I was the one who broke it, even though I didn't even activate it yet. I had to fight with Account Services and customer support for over 2 weeks to get them to finally get me a new one. Everyone I talked to ASSURED me their refurbs were "completely normal" and "rebuilt to factory specs". I didn't know factory specs included the phone coming in two pieces.
On a side note, my girlfriend went through the same thing with Verizon with her old phone last year. It was a touch screen phone, she went through 5 refurbs until they decided to get here a new one. Same thing, every one was so bad. Three of them, the touch screen didnt work at all. One the vibrate didn't work. One would not connect to the internet. And they said the same thing, "all our refurbs are completely tested to work just like a new unit". Yeah right.
That is pretty interesting, pretty crappy of Sprint to do that to you.
However, from my experiences they have some sort of a 3 refurb rule, or it may be 4 and then they are supposed to give you a new phone. I am not sure that this is still a policy but I know I have fallen back on it a few times. Do some digging and see if you can confirm that it still is or bring it up to them at the store. If they **** you around call retention and let them know your fed up and I am more than positive they will take care of you.
Went through 2 myself in the past two weeks and when the third one came in the same way, the rep game me a NIB 004. Guess it all depends on who you speak with and how their day is going! The issue on all of these was the 'sunspot', as I call it. Had my first evo screen replaced 4 months in last year for the same thing. Good Luck!
i just got a refurb last week. i waited over a week cause they were on back order. first thing i did was root it and load cm7 on it. no problems so far.
when i had to get a refurbed moment last year it was a different story though.
My update... Sprint replaced the blown speaker. Had to go back again today because the phone kept overheating and rebooting. A nice technician named Sandi gave me a new EVO. It came with gingerbread, so no root for me. But I am so glad to be through with the broken refurbs. If I had gotten one more broken phone I think I would have had to ditch Sprint. I'm honestly very relieved.

Anyone having any problem getting refurb replacements? Backordered wise?
Seems to me like you would have saved yourself a lot of headaches if you just checked the phone before you left the store. Everytime I get a phone from Sprint, I go sit in my car for a few minutes and make sure everything is working. It's better than driving all the way home and realizing my phone is broken later. Plus if you come back in right after they give you the phone, and show them the problem, they wont be able to say that it's something you did.

On my second Note 5

So about a month ago my faithful of 2 years Note 5 went completely blank. Tech says it is alive and powers up, but the screen was dead. ? I survived the time with an old LG G2 that we keep around for just just incidents.
Repair cost by the carrier was $225 if the screen was the only issue. So I patiently spent time on the internet looking for a replacement. I really like the Note 8, but I am NOT doing that phone lease plan thing and too expensive to buy outright. Well I finally found a like new replacement that claims to only have been used for a month or so by the previous owner Just finished a two hour setup session. ??
Having spent several weeks with the LG G2 can I just say the Note 5 is an amazing phone even two years on now, glad to have you back. Was not planning on having to spend $$$ on a phone for Christmas, but such is life.
