GingerDx vs PrimeHD /stock/ - XPERIA X8 General

Simple.
Im currently using GingerDx v23 still..the PrimeHD seems awesome.
Can someone tell their experiences with these roms?
Which is faster? More smoother.
On stock kernel without oc or with some oc like 614mhz or similar!
I really dont want any kernel results or big OC-ing.
We know that these methods improve our phone speed!

Dude..sorry for saying this but you must not compare one ROM with other ROM since different user might having different experiences..if you are so currious with their experience, why don't you read the thread where the user express their experience..and why don't you try the ROM you want to compare with so you know the differences..
No heart feeling dude..
Cheers..

A fine gentleman you must be.
Still your right.
But the feedback is positive mostly.
Ginger had some battery issues, but thats fixed.
Also Im thinkin that somebody tried them both,so he could just say what he thinks.
Also gonna run the benchmark later. Post pics here with Ginger Dx then try the PrimeHD and compare the results.

had run both of them personal statement "the most stable and fast rom primeHD"

both the ROMs are awesome. For people who cannot unlock their bootloader GingerDX is good, and for others who can PrimeHD is awesome, light, fast and awesome battery back up.... I have used GIngerDX v24 with Alfs v8 ICS kernel and currently using PrimeHD with nAa 11 Kernel...my vote is for Prime HD.....Hope this helps.

gingerdx is very awesome, but battery drain fast, i suggest prime hd for better battery life

GingerDx V024 is awesome for my stock kernel with NO OC.
However, PrimeHD has no battery drain unlike GDx, as I experienced it.
Personally, i found PRIMEHD to be better in terms of battery and light weight. It has a few non-relevant bugs (doesn't matter since they are hardly used)
But again, GDx has none... So both are good in their spheres
For my stock kernel and no OC, I use Prime HD
However, I recommend you to try both ROMS.

Just recently flashed PrimeHD last week and i think this is an amazing ROM... very smooth and fast plus good battery life for stock kernel...

Test
I made some tests with antutu on fresh installed GDX and PHD (without sd card,no OC):
GDX
First run: 1432 / 90 / 193 / 150 / 400 / 469 / 130
Second run: 1460 / 95 / 196 / 145 / 410 / 474 / 140
Third run: 1472 / 95 / 194 / 150 / 407 / 471 / 155
PHD
First run: 1481 /114/ 201 / 150 / 404 / 482 / 130
Second run: 1495 /115/ 199 / 151 / 411 / 474 / 145
Third run: 1505 /114/ 201 / 151 / 408 / 476 / 155

I think primehd because its fast, smooth & best of all more free ram...
But gdx is recomended too for daily rom & as far as i remember, they will release also gdx with some ics(correct me if im wrong)...I dont know what it is but its cool...

GingerDX is in my point of view better than PrimeHD. It is much faster

And here you have the reason why you shouldn't take AnTuTu or any of the other synthetic benchmarks around overly serious. Looking at the first figure (CPU score) the result varies way too greatly with each run.
Anyway, while it's nice to see a few figures the greater sense of these comparison threads really escape me. Taking the drift rate of AnTuTu into consideration the averaged score is about the same and below any noticeable threshold (leaving the SD out of the equation as the difference between different X8's is simply too high due to the many classes of SDs).
As for ROMs that are actually DEVELOPED (and not some lousy apkedits by some wannabes) - I think everyone of us has a specific user-base, and having a selection of different ROMs is actually a good thing (keep in mind I still talk about ROMs that are actually developed and built from source).
HAKA does a excellent job and the same applies to nAa and his miniCM7|9 ROMs.
The question shouldn't be "<ROM> Vs. <ROM>" but rather "what do you like in the ROM you use most?"
Just my two cents.

just test
I was just curious and decided to make this experiment. In fact Im using GDX and I love it

Well you see these two roms are quite similar.
Both of them get updated and both of them got similar functions!
PrimeHD has all of GingerDx options..

pozdrav
i have used both of them and i get better antutu score with prime hd v6
it is kind`a smoother and i like it more for 2d and 3d performance,2d-410 3d-480

I get a much better battery life using PrimeHD than I ever did with GingerDX. Sometimes double... My record is over 3 days on one charge.
Although I have noticed something puzzling... I added 500MB of data to my phone 6 days ago and now I only have 150MB remaining and in that time I've only used it for SMS and a couple of calls, no internet usage. Is it possible that just syncing with my google account is using that much data?

I guess ginger dx is better. but in V024 i couldnt flash CWM zips ........... and i dunno why? Ginger dx wins Prime HD hands down .. I hav got lots of RAM issues with Prime HD as i run out of memory most of the time.... In my experience GDX wins I hope @B.Jay could give me a solution for the problem i have.......

I got 1113 with racht's floyo 0.20 without overclocking
anyone know how to improve ROM's to be stable for highter processor's frequency?
Crashes when set it more than 748MHz
Does anyone work at higher frequencies?
Max frequency depends on processor and every processor is different. One can run on higher frequencies without problems but other can't. For example: I can overclock max to 710 Mhz but you can overclock to 748 Mhz

[DEV] XWKPN vs. XXKPH - Benchmark Results

Hi all. I just wanna share my research about two gingerbread firmwares: KPN and KPH. Everybody says KPN much more stable, no SODs, smooth, and etc. and KPH not stable enough, and have much SODs. but how about the benchmark result?
Sorry, I was forget to take a screenshot of the benchmark results.
First: KPN (2.3.3)
Score: 500 - 600 (stock, without any modification applied)
Score: 600 - 1200 (with CF-Root)
When you've applied CF-Root, you will get random SOD issue. I'm trying to play Angry Birds, I can see the lags. And the battery will drain faster than KPH. On the benchmark reading & writing database the process was so slow, but on the graphic test it has greater fps.
Second: KPH (2.3.4)
Score: 1000 - 1500 (stock, without any modification applied)
Score: 1600 - 1900 (with CF-Root)
Wow, it's shocking. Even it has random SOD issue (stock or cf-root) but the performance is great. Angry birds, lags there are only small lags. On the benchmark reading & writing database it's really fast, graphic test fps almost same as KPN. And I think it has better battery, depends on the ussage.
Conclusion
In my opinion, KPN is stable enough but slow. And KPH is fair, the performance was great. About my ROM, fla.sh it's ready for packaging. But now, I will start over again and use KPH as base. How about you?
What was it about 2.3.4 showing up anomalous results on quadrant? Rumour or fact?
Edit: just ran quadrant on 2.3.3 kpn 1500+
Anyways kpn has a shorter wake time but slightly longer time for screen off.

Wow.. CF-Root? MicroSD high class? I just flash KPN and ran bencmark with result 500 -600. KPH will show high result (and getting higher after you run benchmark again).
Isnt kph showing weird benchmark results that's why some people kept saying that it's irrelevant?
Anyway, good luck!

On ext4 with both KPN/KPH gives me benchmarks of around 1500, no difference.
Playing games, no difference.
So it comes to stability plus bln support

I agree for this. Benchmark on KPH just to good to be true.
From my experience, KPN is better than KPH, KPN more smooth than KPH. But i don't try it on game. IMHO, the real benchmark is game.

Hey fla.sh,
my Quadrant standard benchmark results for stock KPN and only a few tweaks in build.prop are 1000-1200 everytime. And for me KPN looks better then KPH, althoug i didn't try KPH for a long time now.
What about CF-root for KPN and SOD's? Are you sure? You know whats the problem with it exactly? I'm testing this to and i must say that i didn't have SOD'S for a week now being on only stock KPN.
Cheers.

Sorry guys but why you use quadrant ? If you try other app like Antutu or SmarthBench i think that it willi be better. In my case the results on Smarthbench are:

503 / 929 Tweak disabled; V6 supercharged enabled belaced 3; 97loopy_smoothness; 7/09/2011 BlackHawkROM KPN
On antutu bench i have: 1797
I know that they aren't stock firm but the base is the same....

I agree, the stock based roms are much better, without causing offence to any developers as they do an extraordinary job, but their work is done alongside regular jobs in most cases. Whereas SE pay people to do a job.
Hats off to all developers though who dedicate so much time an effort into these projects.

Jelly bean vs gingerbread gaming and performance

Hi everyone I am currently running the NXT LE rom v1.3. I have tried various other roms but I find that this is the best one so far. Can you guys compare various roms and see which is better for gaming and performance, Jelly Bean (with new adreno drivers) or Gingerbread. Thanks
Every one list:
Kernel
Rom
Take Antutu Benchmark of your rom
from my experience, gingerbread is still the best android version for the xperia play
NXT LE with gin2jb theme,
Latest doomlord gb kernel
At 1017 Mhz
Score: 4288
Thinks too that a modified gingerbread is still the best choice for my Play. I saw that some guys got a bit higher Benchmark score on JellyBean but that doesn't mean that it is better for gaming. I really wish that more devs would pay more attention to GB.
Doomkernel v.14
DiXperia2
Antutu B. 6161 @ 1.8 Ghz.
Um........good point. But people are saying that with the new Adreno drivers that ICS and JB for gaming are better than GB. I only use my xperia play for gaming, so I have been looking for a rom designed for gaming, so far the best is NXT Light in my opinion. If anyone finds other please post

Come now, let's not keep talking about 'I think that, I think this'.
Let's start showing from numbers from Nenamark 2, since it's purely gaming you guys want. When you're done, just delete/wtv.
Let us start with a few ground rules:
1.0GHz Performance governer ONLY.
I/O schedule = whatever since it shouldn't matter much.
State whether you're using GB/JB.

3D : 1950
--1.8Ghz (to align with above post clock)
Total : 6330

I have a locked bootloader so no fancy kernels or overclocking, but I'm sure it could serve as a base to compare performance.

WOW!!!! Your scores are much higher than mine and "aitmanga"'s scores. So I guess JB is much better for gaming, right?
Now I'm quite skeptical about that methodology. x2 more fps? I don't think so.
Anyone have any other idea on test methods? Antutu and quadrant scores aren't really useful unless you state the graphics score breakdown.
Edit: updated previous post with antutu for what it's worth.
I installed the SlimBean rom and tried Gta 3, it is no where as smooth as the nxt light rom ive been using, but the benchmark is like 29!!! Which is more than double my score on nxt light, but in real life performance JB is not as good as GB!! Even though the benchmarks show that it is

Well, some games are bottlenecked by the GPU and others by the CPU. There's no general rule like 'if one game doubles its framerate, every game should be the same' so GTA3 can be CPU limited.
Probably Nenamark is very GPU intensive and a optimized GPU driver can do wonders but each game has its own CPU-GPU balance.

Here's mine.
[JB]
1st run : 30.7 fps
2nd run : 31.4 fps
3rd run : 31.4 fps
4th run : 31.8 fps
5th run : 31.5 fps

Kernel : Doomkernel v14
Antutu benchmark : [email protected],2ghz
Not too bad..

Kernel : Doomkernel v14
Antutu v3.0.3 benchmark : [email protected] performance (normally set [email protected] ondemand)
not too bad even playing zombiewood smoothly, as long as you got enough free ram & set VM Heap size to 96m-128m

Um........good point. But people are saying that with the new Adreno drivers that ICS and JB for gaming are better than GB. I only use my xperia play for gaming, so I have been looking for a rom designed for gaming, so far the best is NXT Light in my opinion. If anyone finds other please post

I would have agreed wih u and up unill i came across jb slim I thought that nxt light was the best jb slim bean it the only rom which is really come near to perfection the only downfall is that u cannot record but u can use the camera to take pictures via app from play store for free. and all the other features work to perfection u can overclock to 1.6ghz to play certain games which are too slow to play 4 exmple modern combact 4. also u can download games from google play store for free which arent even supose to be working on xperia play like shadow gun dead zone and all this is not even he best part when u flash it normally u get atleast 550mb internall free well thats becasue how small the actual rom it self is also this is the least laggyiest rom plus if u like to listen to music then it has apollo music player bonus points so despite the loss of the recording feature it overall makes up in compare to every other feature. :good: if u are inerested i personally tested it on xperia play r800i alos thishas been tested on r800x the link to this is if u are intersed that is :fingers-crossed::highfive:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35493383
for gaming i recomend - Jellyzeus (JB) or CM9.1 (ICS) - both can run GTA VC really smoth on low settings (25%distance / 50%textures, all other low or off) ...
if you buy xperia play for hard gaming, i recomend - NXT Light Ed. - its best...
but if you play games like wheres my water / angry birds, and want JB, its a good choice...

NEW TEST My big Kernel benchmark on i9001, 4.1.2, cynanogmod ivendor alpha 10

NEW TEST, benchmark+battery
Hi, its me again, i post new test, benchmark + battery. There is here no all kernels (i want test battery life time!) , but most popular. Tests are make on cyanogen ivendor 10, no clean system, with a lot of apps on background (like polish GG-messanger, skype, mail, pdoid patch for system etc).
Theoretical, on clean system, ivendor cyanogen 10, brood kernel OC, very clean system antutu benchmark shows 7092, but this is no normal use, i prefer benchmark and battery use on no-clean system, with all apps on background what i use normal (what i mentioned before).
[1]
Castagnal 10.2 kernel, smartAssV2, 1209mhz
Battery: 6/6
Antutu Benchmark: 5831
Problems for normal use: XBMC, HD vids dont play fluency, never reboot
[2]
Castagnal 10.2 kernel, smartAssV2, 1802mhz
Battery: 4/6
Antutu Benchmark: 6425
[3]
Nexus Kernel V8.0, OC, exUV, smartAssV2, 1824mhz
Battery: 2/6
Antutu Benchmark: 6264
[4]
Nexus Kernel V8.0, OC, exUV, smartAssV2, 1209mhz
Battery: 5/6
Antutu Benchmark: 5488
Problems for normal use: XBMC, HD vids dont play fluency; caller id for incoming calls shows in 1/2 s, not immedietly
[5]
Brood Kernel 1.4 - OC
Kernel BRICK MY PHONE, always on new cynogen
[6]
PhenomKernel by Erik v1.2.4 , smartAssV2, 1824mhz
Battery: 4/6
Antutu Benchmark: 6566
IMO, best fluency on XBMC (HD stream movies plays very fluency) and whole system, sometimes reboot
[7]
PhenomKernel by Erik v1.2.4 , smartAssV2, 1204mhz
Battery: 6/6
Antutu Benchmark: 5591
Problems for normal use: XBMC, HD vids dont play fluency;
MAIN RESULT: the best kernel for normal use is PhonomKernel, or Castagnal kernel. 1,2-1,4 Mhz on procesor, smartassV2. The better performance is for PhonemonKernel, but sometimes very rarely it reebot system. Normally i use phonemonKernel, cause i has significantly higher performance on normal use, and i could fast with widget overclock processor when i like see television by the XBMC.

OLD test:
Hi, i would like to present my big-) test of kernels,
I use:

Re: My big Kernel benchmark on i9001, 4.1.2, cynanogmod ivendor alpha 6
Nice test!
I would be interested in the battery drains as well. A fast phone is nice but if it couldn't last a day on battery it's not an option.
Verstuurd van mijn GT-I9001
I have battery some for some kernels..
brood kernel, 1800, smartass 2, battery work time is the same as stock cyanogen kernel, works good. brood kernel make sometimes phone reboot.
castagnal.kernel is very battery drain. and camera don't work good on my phone on it. vendor luizactive
Diablo kernel I don't test more than some hours... and can't say something serious about battery work time.

Nice test out there!
However can you update your thread with new kernels like Diablo's kernel or Nexus?

i will make new test, battery time work, * benchmark, all kernels from xda, new ivendor rom, non+clean system with apps i use (pdroid, gg-messangfer etc)
if u want
+1 for the battery tests; for me if a kernel runs like the wind but drains my battery in hours, there is no much point.
New test, plz comment, not all kernels, because i want test battery performance very good
upgraded test
Hi
Currently I'm using Erikmod 3.0 kernel with 1824 MHz OC. I suggest this kernel for the benchmark.
Thank you*Thank you*Thank you....
KEEP THIS AWESOME WORK MAAAN!

Thanks for this awesome Tests you've made.
I'm using EhndroixII with NexusV8 Kernel. Batterylife is great.
Thank you very much for fantastic benchmarks. I haven't actually tried PhenomKerne, but seems to be the best hands down. I wonder if it would work on my Japanese SC-02B...
