Full money refund due to bugs in official GB firmware release. - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

I just got a full money refund on my warranty for my one year old U8800. I thought this might help someone else who has issues whit the phone and are thinking about handing it in for service. I got the refund primarily due to the bugs in official 2.3 ( V100R001C00B526G001 ) some of the problems I had were definitely related to the firmware and some were related to my device.
Make sure you know what laws and agreements you got in your county and with the store where you bought it. The laws might not be the same for you as they were for me. I got two years warranty through the store(teknikmagasinet) and through the Swedish law the store got two chances to fix the issue after that I got the right to reverse the purchase and get a full refund, a new phone or a new phone in the same price class.
I handed in the phone the first time with official froyo (V100R001C00B138SP04) and got it back with a new mainboard and the phone updated to official GB. The second time I handed it two weeks later with GB (V100R001C00B526G001) and the reflashed the V100R001C00B526G001 firmware and changed the front plastic of the phone. After a lot of hassle and a third hand in to confirm the problems I got a FULL refund after a year heavy usage. See below for a list whit the problems I had and a lot of them are known bugs in the different releases. It took me around a month from the first hand in until I got the money.
If you do decide to try to get a full refund make sure that you hand it in with a official release of firmware and unrooted.
Issues with my phone with official 2.2 (V100R001C00B138SP04)

• Bad in call sound quality both for me and the person I call.
Unstable cell reception
• Unstable cell reception, causes the phone to drop calls.
• Bad reception compared to other phones.
Destroys memory cards
• Destroyed two memory cards in less than a week.
Issues with my phone with official 2.3 ( V100R001C00B526G001 )
Wifi
• Really slow on some networks
• Random reboots associated with background sync during deep sleep.
• Unstable
Missed call issue
• Calls goes directly to missed calls
MMS
• Can´t send and receive MMS while data is of.
Screen lag + Freezes
• Happens primary when switching and scrolling in menys.
Sound quality
• Bad in call sound quality both for me and the person I call.
Unstable cell reception
• Unstable cell reception, causes the phone to drop calls.
• Bad reception compared to other phones.
Corrupts memory cards
• Memory cards gets corrupt after a few weeks, reformatting the memory card fixes it.
Touch calibration
• Touch calibration seems slightly of.
(I added some money and got a month old GALAXY NEXUS and are using franciscofranco.kernel HUGE difference in performance, battery life and awesome rom and kernel development.)

I can assure you not everywhere have that possibility, in Portugal I really doubt that option...
Besides that, don't know what you mean by "adding some money"... in Portugal X5 costs 149Eur... Nexus costs 489... so not exactly the same basis... not even with some money, it is 3x the price...

Great story! I wish this was possible in Portugal BTW, which country are you? How did you prove them all of those bugs?

Simple, we in Portugal are shafted big time by our price fixed telecom market operators. In Sweden you get highly subsidized high end phones with generous data plans (1gb/month minimum) and unlimited calls on the same network for as little as 30€ month x 24 months for a 500€+ valued phone with no downpayment...

I guess it depend on which country you stay

As I said in the first post “Make sure you know what laws and agreements you got in your county and with the store where you bought it. The laws might not be the same for you as they were for me.” So you are correct it might not be possible for you but maybe for someone.
I bought the phone one year ago for aprox. 250 euro and a month used nexus cost me around 350 euro. And I live in Sweden.

Bring on replacement 4...

Guys, im not too sure if this is the place, but i'm at the point where i think i may have to take Orange UK to court.
Mid august, i finally had the option to upgrade to an SPV M3100 (Hermes), which i gleefully did.
By the end of august, i had severe keyboard problems, and had to order a replacement.
Phone #1: Faulty Keyboard
Phone #2 Shipped to me
The second unit was fine for a grand total of 3 weeks...at which point...the same old keyboard problems (half the keys not working) starting reering its ugly head, along with the fabled screen alignment issues. I called orange...(we'll gloss over the 3 hours on hold, not being cut off when the offices closed at 10pm)...
Phone #2: Faulty Keyboard, Faulty digitizer, Stability issues, lost reception (only able to restore on hard reset)
Phone #3 Shipped to me...
And so here we are....a whole 13 odd days later....and yup....the keyboard has screwed up again....and im losing signal all over the shop (one second full, next gone so NOT a signal strength issue). I called Orange, and told them that this is unacceptable...that ive paid for a phone, paid for a service, and get neither....
And yet....no offer of another device.....and why pray tell?! Because the first two reps listed the faults in different orders (or missed them altogehter). So....
Phone #3: Faulty keyboard, lossy signal
Phone #4 on its way to me for Thursday.
So this is what i get for being a high-cost customer, i have bills of £100+ each month, im on a high-end tarrif, and i have a top-scale phone. Yet....the supervisors never ring back or are busy...and Orange's correspondence dept haven't replied to my fax sent over a week ago.
As a result of the changed phones, i've lost data, i've lost time, i've lost money (software regged to IMEIs), and i've lost all faith in Orange UK.
Am i the only one that has had THIS MUCH OF A PROBLEM with this network, or is this how they treat everone?!
Apologies for the endless b*tching in this here post, but i am SO appauled by all this, i've half a mind to either NOT pay the next bill and let them chase me, or contact my CA bureau and Trading Standards and see if they will tolerate a customer NOT recieving what they paid for?
Mate you need to look at the Supply of goods to consumer regulations 2002. This updates the Supply and Sale of Goods and Services Act 1982 and gives you all the rights you need.
deep-blue that is terrible but I know a guy who has had three in two weeks because on everyone of them the keyboard didn’t work.

WOW actually good service!!

Hi guys i thought i would post this up
My DHD packed up a couple of months ago, and i replaced her with a HOX. I loved the DHD as its a very VERY capable piece of kit even 2 years down the line.
I contacted htc though the on line chat to explain the problems, no bluetooth, wifi failure, down button failure (initally it wouldnt boot at all with just 3 vibrations and flashing red light - volume down sticking).
I was told that the volume down was not covered under warrenty as it was a wear and tear item - because of that i would have to pay for the whole repair!!?? he also stated thier wasnt a known problem with the volume on the DHD even though there are 100s of reports on here and accross the net!!, because of that i very nearly returned my HOX in disgust, i didnt in the end but promised myself this would be the last time htc saw my money.
I put the DHD away and forgot about her for 8 weeks or so, until my wife asked me about a problem on her wildfire s runing out of space - to my horror she only has a minute amount of space on the phone, yet the dhd which was an older model had 1.5 gbs if memory serve.
I then thought the dhd would be better for her so i would give htc a call, i told them about the problem with the wifi and bluetooth and said the volume down had failed as well, he said the wifi and bluetooth are on the same board and it looks like thats the problem. He tried to run though a reboot proceedure then realised the volume down was kaput.
UPS picked up the phone on thurs morning.
I didnt expect to see the phone again for a month after some horror storys.
Anyways about an hour ago on the Tues my phone arrived back, as good as new!!! - if i didnt know any better i would say this is a brand new phone!, 5 days flat inc weekend!!!!
Im impressed to say the least
The phone has the same imei number but has a new body, the single scratch on the corner is gone and the dent in the grill is gone, the phone is like a brand new device even the wear and tear volume button is brand new!!
If i learned a lesson its not to bother with online chats now, humans over the phone are much more helpful than someone sitting at a keyboard, I knew my dhd was in excellent shape (zagg shield and noreve case it whole life) and i had actually done nothing to her to void a warrenty with the hardware - this was later prooved as it went in and was fixed under warrenty.
Well done HTC you have restored my faith in the brand - just show how some poorly tried online techs can tarnish a companies name to the end customer.

[Q] What's the google service (replacement) like in UK?

I bought mine just over a month ago from Google UK. Delivery via TNT was an absolute nightmare, poor communications and ended up driving 40 miles return at midnight to collect it. A Disaster really - I am scared to even think about dealing with TNT ever again.
Now if that wasn't enough my Nexus 4 seems to have come from Hell. I have loads of showstopper issues, just to name a few:
* The headset emits all sorts of electronic noise whenever the phone is ON. Switching the screen on changes the tone. This is getting unbearable.
* Wifi / 3g signal are very weak compared to even my old and pretty destroyed HTC desire. (UK networks are generally rubbish) Sustaining a skype call in Bristol centre is now a major issue.
* Headphone volume is surprisingly low (less than 1/2 or ipad or desire)
* The thing is made of fragile glass. What worse could it be?
So if I was going to ask for replacement, what would happen? How many weeks or months would I be without phone (micro sim won't go in desire)? How many 40 mile trips will I need to make to deal with TNT? I am just thinking if its worth the hassle, even when the money is fairly tight.
Can I deal with LG directly, and would that be any better?
Now I clearly understand why great customer service is important. If I bought from apple I could just walkin to the store almost next door and walk out with another phone. Google, will you listen or a you going to be the next microsoft?
I bought one sim free with Google with some of the same issues plus the fact the screen was faulty. I contacted Google via phone and to begin with it went well. But things started to slow. They issued me a RMA but took 4 emails over 5 days to get it. Then I was waiting another week for the shipping label. They dont give you an address which sucked. All this was eating into the 10 days I had to return it. In the end I told them to screw themselves so I sold it on eBay. Lost a little money.
What was funny was after all that. Google sent a message saying how was it to deal with them and could I give accurate feedback. Useless ****s. Hope i haven't put you off too much.

oh my... anyone got experience dealing with LG, if I may do so? I start to really regret this purchase. I could just hold out till June or July and be a happy iphone owner and the exchange and flog this. My screen is at least nice and bright except I bought a phone and not a toy.

Major G2 hardware issues

I just had to order my fourth G2 in the past six weeks.
First one developed a striated screen after a week.
Second one would not receive any LTE signal and 3G was often unstable.
Third one seems to get an LTE signal briefly when phone is reprogrammed and tries to do a profile update, but it never completes the update and LTE never shows again. Same instability when trying to get 3G. This one also keeps throwing an error message that it has a bad UICC card. Something about an invalid SIM card. No one at the Sprint store or any of the techs that I called had any idea about how to fix that last thing. And the tech manager at the Sprint Repair center was incredulous that I had found three defective G2s in a row. This last one was tested before I left the store with it due to my previous experience. When I did take it home (after ordering a new one) it was so annoying I just turned it off and re-activated my Galaxy S3.
Anyone else have any sort of experience or am I just lucky?
Your unlucky. But what if that store gave you phones that were returned previously?

4 times in 6 years is doable or I should say "was doable" (Pittsburgh Steelers dynasty).
4 phones in 6 weeks is unthinkable. FOUR???

That's what they are telling me.
The guys at the Sprint store claim that they can't tell whether it's a refurb or not. They say it's so new that they are probably all new. I doubt it.
I'm finding it pretty unbelievable. I know it's not a conspiracy or anything, but this next one had better be perfect or there will be a bit of a scene. I'm not walking out of the there without a 100% working phone.
what are you doing rhat causes this?
skinny jeans maybe with extra small pockets and extra tension on phone?
backpocket while sitting?
I'm also on my third replacement, first one had a bad screen it kept flickering while in a call, second one had radio connection issues, and this one I currently have has the same radio problems and also gets really hot sometimes. The quality control on these phones is bollocks at best, I will never get another LG phone again. It's a shame because I enjoy the speed of the Snapdragon 800 processor, the OIS camera is good and I like the IPS display
I have my 3rd phone coming on Monday. Got my G2 1 month ago and I am going on my 3rd. I love the phone but not sure I could deal with it if it breaks again. For me, I woke up, unplugged my phone, it rebooted and that was it. No wifi, no data, and just kept rebooting. Did a factory reset, which did nothing. So I flashed the 12b on with the LG Flash Tool which wipes out your internal storage. and still nothing. Called Verizon and they are shipping me another phone! Hopefully I get more than 2 weeks out of it! Can't keep starting over every 2 weeks.......

do you use original charger and good electrical outlet?
For the record, I never did anything crazy to them.
I only rooted the first one after the stuff started happening so that I could create a backup to try to install on the second.
Second and third never even got rooted, as I didn't want any bull about having anything that I did creating the flaws.
Each phone was never dropped and in a case it's entire life. Not a scratch. Only used stock cable and chargers (except when in the car).
My fourth one has been almost flawless and confirmed as a 100% new device.
I am having a small issue with the knock/on feature, but I think that's a result of the ROM I'm using now and the way I messed around with it. We'll see when I flash something new this weekend.

Same here, 3G is commonly unstable and keep disconecting, even when connected is very slow.
I have a major issue with reception as well: 2-3 bars in areas when all other phones has full signal strenght (used to have motorola on the same operator for 10 years and never seen a single bar drop in reception) Sometimes even looses reception. !This is the worst anthena on mobile device I'vee ever seen!
It is pretty useless on mobile data, as it never gets strong enough signal to browse
WiFi limited to 72mbps on 2.4Ghz wireless N network (unacceptable)
Maybe it's Sprint? I'm on TMO and LTE and connectivity in general has been blazing and never drops. And still on my first G2.
I've yet to read of this issue until your thread, so hopefully you're able to figure it out. Good luck!

HTC One Pink Camera Tint - My experience

Hey everyone! just wanted to share my experience so far.
I got an HTC One m7 last year, and I love almost everything about it, except it began to develop the pink camera tint. For those who don't know, many m7's have a manufacturing/design defect that causes the camera to slowly degrade, and as a result, all low light pics come out with a pink or purple haze across the image.
I took my phone over to the bell store, where I signed a couple documents, and the rep sent the phone over to the repair center. The phone was in "Like-New" condition, and still in warranty.
I waited about a week, and today I got an email telling me that the repair facility was refusing to repair the phone citing physical damage (there was none, maybe a micro scratch!), and to get it back they would charge a $35 diagnostic fee. I don't even really care about the fee (although there shouldn't be one) I just want my phone fixed.
I called Bell and they escalated the issue and told me someone from the repair center would call me in 24-72 hours. They wouldn't give me a number to call, so now I have no choice but to play the waiting game...

Well u are not in USA. I had couple of devices with this deffect fixed under warranty even when warranty was expired. Call the consumer support number in your country and talk to them and tell them u have done your homework and this is a well known deffect and it should be taken care by them. Or wait maybe they will call.I never deal with carriers in this situation s call directly the manufacturer. Good luck.
Well, its been a while now, and it looks like I may have to send the phone to HTC since Bell are a bunch of ********. I eventually got a call, but it wasn't from the repair center, it was from USA's tech support, and the gentleman told me he had no idea what was going on, and that he couldn't help me at all, nor could he offer any type of recourse, or contact information for someone that may be able to help. I am very displeased as you can probably see. Anyway, I wrote HTC a letter complaining about their service. Here's what I wrote to them for your amusment:
Hello,
I recently sent my phone in to repair it's camera that wasn't working correctly. I was denied the repair, citing physical damage (I have documentation from the Bell store stating otherwise) and the device has now been marked down to be shipped back without the repair, when I did not give my consent, nor talk to anyone who had any bit of control over the repair process. I am very displeased at the service that has been given to me, as well I do not appreciate being lied to, or cheated out of the repair I am entitled to.(the phone's camera issue is a widely documented factory defect, just search Google or call HTC about the m7 pink camera issue). As well, I am appalled at how Bell has tried its hardest to evade my asking for help, instead pointing fingers at other divisions of the company and telling me to go talk to them. And finally, I would have liked to call the repair center, or visit the facility directly as I understand it is fairly close to me, but the information I have been seeking was kept secret from me. If you listen to the recording of the support call I made last week, you will hear the agent telling me that the company actively tries to withold this information.
I WANT MY PHONE REPAIRED. Not returned defective. If my phone is returned defective, you can be sure I will not renew my contract with Bell, ever.
Brandon Benyacar
I can only hope they read this letter sooner than later. Anyway, that's my repair experience so far. Lesson learned: Don't by a phone right away, let a few months go by and see if any major problems turn up. also, note to self: Buy extended warranty.
I may post one more time if anything else worth sharing happens. Have a good day everyone!
I'll also post my experience with the purple tint problem. Got my phone in may/june 2013 and got the purple tint somewhere around september 2013. Over time, it got worse in dark settings, but as the phone was still ok during daylight, never bothered too much. This year I finally took the effort to get it fixed. I contacted HTC europe (as I live in the Netherlands) about the problem and they said to just make an appointment; if I had caused the problem, I had to pay 35 euros research costs and if I agreed, an additional fee for the repairs.
As I rooted the phone like a month after I got it (unlocked through HTC dev website), I was kinda 'scared' they would say that would be the cause, but I followed all wonderful steps here to get it S-OFF and in locked/untampered state again and send it off. Made the appointment (UPS came to pick it up) and after a few days I got the email it was ready and repaired. Today (after about 10 days) they delivered the phone back. No charge at all.
So my experience with HTC customer support is fairly positive at the moment. Purple tint is indeed gone. Sadly, my original phone was just fixed and not swapped for an M8, but still no complaints about their service.

Glad to hear everything worked out for you. I contacted HTC a few days back and explained what happened and they said they would be happy to repair my phone at no cost, and agreed with me about Bell's repair process being all sleazy. I just need to wait until my phone gets shipped back from Bell's repair center first.
I think I read somewhere that sometimes HTC will put in a higher quality camera module. do you notice the picture being better than the original? (before the purple tint started)
I really don't want my phone to be swapped for an m8, I like the m7 better. slightly smaller, capacitive buttons, and a more symmetrical speaker grille. Not to mention its super easy to s-off. though I might not mind if they give me an M9! HAHA
well, its been about a month, and after much trouble, I finally got my phone fixed. See, When I got my phone back from Bell, HTC told me to ship my phone to a company called Futuretel, located about 15 minutes from where I live. I shipped it, and a few days later, received an email claiming that the repair would not be covered under warranty, and would cost me $226. they also have a policy that requires them to replace both the camera, and the motherboard at the same time, hence the price.
Their first claim was that my H-Boot date on the bootloader screen tells them that my phone had been tampered with. I did install custom firmware, but I flashed it back to stock, with the date showing January 29 2014, before I even bought the phone(not that they would know that) so I called them out on their claim. Then, they disregarded that claim, and now stated that since was that since my phone was S-Off, I was not entitled to a repair. Everything else on the phone was stock, bootloader locked, tampered flag removed and status showing locked.
talking directly to Futuretel was futile, so I called HTC and explained how refusing a defective hardware warranty because of S-Off is like ford refusing to replace your faulty transmission because you changed your headlights. The two are completely unrelated (unless your mechanic REALLY sucks I supposed). They agreed, but still wouldn't fix my phone.
My father, who isn't really a lawyer, but knows quite a lot for an average guy, wrote up a legal document for me to sue HTC. This isn't his first lawsuit, so he knew exactly how to write it up properly and file it into small claims court. I sent a copy over to HTC, and the next day, they offered to pay for the repair. It probably just wasn't worth it for them to fight it, so they gave in.
I also let HTC know of all the horrible reviews and complaints of this repair facility, with many of the stories online ending in either ridiculous repair costs, refusal of repairs for stupid reasons, or devices being returned with additional damage. HTC said they would do an investigation on this facility. that being said, Futurtel repaired my phone in 2 days time, and returned it in the same condition it left (actually, slightly better condition, my power button was losing its black paint, and they replaced it. small, but good attention to detail).
I powered up the phone to 5.0.2, and firmware version 7.17.666.7 which I believe is the newest version (a google search produced no results). They also replaced my mainboard, so everything was stock, and I had a new IMEI. tested out the camera, and its a night and day difference. Now my pics look the way they were meant to look. Once again, I am a happy customer.
I hope my experience inspires others to fight back, know your rights, and don't take no for an answer. I would love to hear other people's success and failure stories, especially ones pertaining to this pink camera issue.
Now onto installing insertcoin's sense 5.5 ROM. I just like it better than sense 6!
My related experience recently, I acquired almost new imported HTC One from local dealer, and there was Pink Tint, I took it to HTC Service Center in my locality, I had already did OTA updates and the phone is in Lollipop, the support person said, it will take 5500 INR (88 USD) which I agreed, then they said it is imported phone, the camera module might not be compatible they don't have software to calibrate the camera since the phone is in Lollipop (?!), and it is the risk they are not willing to take! they don't even try to repair and say it did not work. Their excuse was once they attempt to install new camera, and it doesn't work the Camera will be completely shut off even day light photos will not be possible. Looks like I had to live with purpley photos!

Don't worry, you can always use flash to avoid pinkish photos in the night. I didn't even bother to get mine repaired for free.

the flash helps(thank god its even there), but still, video in low light is practically unusable.
It's not acceptable that HTC can get get away with this(though I found it had more to do with the repair facilities), and you should fight it if you've got the time, especially now that they have introduced that "oops protection" this for the M9. If they can replace an M9 at no charge for dropping your phone onto concrete, then they should at least be able to fix their own factory defect. Even if its out-of-warranty. Its what I believe is fair.
by the way, after they fix, not only are the pictures not pink, but they're less grainy now, and they're not washed out.
I too had this problem since last 1.5 years.. somewhere read online that you can get rid of it by placing your cellphone in freezer for sometime and it will get rid of the pink/purple issue of camera. So I did it.
WHat to do-
1.) I placed my cellphone HTC One(M7) in my freezer nicely wrapped in a small towel
2.) changed my refrigerator setting to the coolest...
3.) kept it in there for almost 20 minutes
4.) Took it out.... and no more Pinkish pics.......
Not sure if its permanent solution as I have tried it today only.... but as of now I am happy to see my camera work as good as new.... NO FAULTS WHATSOEVER.
It worked for me.. hopefully it can work for someone else as well.. please try at your own risk and make sure to cover your cellphone properly before trying this option.

Do you really think our phones are designed to withstand below zero temperatures? This is a terrible idea which is most likely only a temporary fix (if your phone survives it).
While not a true "fix" I just edit the effected pictures and add an effect to them. 2 of the effects work well to remove the purple haze in pictures (depending on the picture each effect works better than the other). Not perfect, I understand, but they come out looking quite good.
