I was very pleased to read this-
http://www.gsmarena.com/200000_samsung_glaxy_s_phones_sold_in_south_korea_in_10_days-news-1786.php
Considering the fact that stocks sell off like hot scones in the UK and there are even shortages, and the fact that the device is selling well in the U.S even before carrier-based versions started selling, i see a bright future for the Galaxy S platform.
If in south korea alone it sold 200,000 , and in the UK Clove, Expansys and Handtec had severe shortages untill several days ago, i'm guessing it already sold over 300-350K worldwide.
Again, even before carriers around the world started marketing it.
Now i want to see what happens after carriers around the world start selling it, if these kinds of numbers will continue to flow in, i think it's close to impossible that samsung won't support it for a prolonged period.
Share your 2 cents, i'm having great expectations right now.

^ Yeah, I lol at that one.
But OP, your right. This is Samsung's all out effort to gain marketshare in the smartphone area. They are #2 when it comes to feature phones (dumb phones). However, in smartphone market, they are #4 or 5. In fact, last quarter they LOST market share. Analysts have projected that in a few years, the majority of phones sold will be smartphones, so it is imperative for Samsung to gain market share and win over customers. You can not do that with products that are unsupported. I bet they got a wake up call when HTC came out of no where and gained market share quicker then Samsung did. In fact HTC (which is very small company compared to Samsung), has a greater market share than the big ol Samsung. They know for a fact that with increased relations with developers, that their handsets have gained sales. Samsung created an open source distribution website where source codes for most of their products have been released since April of this year. So that is a good positive step in the right direction. Also, we all know Samsung makes great hardware, however their software side has been less stellar. Its beginning to be changed as more money and resources are pouring into the software side.(Bada, new R&D center in India devoted to software, new emphasis by corporate to focus more money in software etc).
I hope we are right.
As far as I can see, Samsung is winning customers over HTC right now. I am one of those, and I spotted many others in the forums.
IMO the point is that HTC's success has been largely undeserved, but rather based on the efforts of people here on XDA; on the contrary, it looks like they did everything they could to make people run away screaming. Despite all the work that has been done, even developers on XDA have never found a way to get a performance from, say, the Touch HD that could at least be called acceptable, if you look at the specs. Marketing a device as the "ultimate multimedia experience" and then selling it without proper drivers, is just pure BS. And this incredible problem affected an entire range of products for at least two years.
So, I would say, HTC should be paying a much higher price than they are, for their behaviour... we'll see in the next few months. I know I sound harsh but I seriously hope they lose it. Samsung FTW
OP needs to change his topic to something less misleading. When i first glance your "bright spot" made me thought that the new phones have some defect in the screen.
I thought your post was to say that samsung sold many phones with defective "bright spots" on their screens.
Wtf is a bright spot anyway lol see thick ppl do buy **** fones lol

Fixed, although i'm sure even kim jong ill wouldn't mind a galaxy s.
And now can someone please translate AndroHero's post for me? i'm having trouble trying to discern what language is that.
Anyways, now that samsung is selling masses of their flagship phone, they have to be completely retarded to not support it properly. It would be equevilant to commiting suicide.
Also, it sold a lot on their "home court", if samsung will let even koreans down, their cellular department is going to take a major hit.

Hello,
Here is a little article about samsung vs apple, there is a nice section about production lines.
It's a Korean article transleted into English.
[too bad I'm new and can't post a link] To those still interested by the article, you can google search "askakorean apple vs samsung" first article!
It's maybe a bit out of context, but since you were talking about shortages.
If someone would be nice enough to post the link so it's easier for everybody

Interesting to read someones opinion, but that's all it is. My other half is Korean, and she, like I work in the electronics industry and we're both intimately aware of how Korean giants like Samsung operate, the key element in the Galaxy S isnt rapid turn around, its a change in corporate policy towards the design of the phone, by involving hundreds of potential users in the development stages.
I also disagree with his premise that the iPhone 4 is a 'great' product. I've had a play with an iPhone 4 and I think it suffers from Form over Function. It's actually a little uncomfortable in the hand. It may be made from glass and steel and look great, but such hard materials with squared off edges and profiles doesn't sit right in your hand.
The objects we most commonly hold in our hands are cups/mugs, pens and computer mice. They're rounded and softened, ok household mugs are ceramic from a practical materials aspect, but even a travel mug has a rubberized grip.
I just don't get the hysteria over the IP4, when I look at it I do see a photogenic object, but I also see a design fail.
Leaving the comfortability issue aside, i'm bothered by the durability aspect.
Using superhardened glass may be good against scratches, but without a shock absorbing frame of some sort, the harder the galss- the more prone to shattering it will be, and harder glass shatters more catastrophically.
"regular" hardness glass usually gets cracks or little shattered points.
Superhardened galss- it's "all or nothing". Either nothing hapeens, or it shatters completely.
Deciding to put the glass ON the frame instead of IN the frame (like previous iPhones) was a much bigger design flaw than the less-round corners IMO.
I'm hearing a lott of buzz about samsung using mostly plastic, and how "inappropreate" it is for a super high-end device, but from a pratical viewpoint-
It's durable, it's cheap and easy to replace it's comfortable, and it doesn't block reception as much as more expensive materials.
Indeed, my BlackBerry is plastic, and that's never been an issue.
http://www.fudzilla.com/mobiles/mobiles/htc-hd3-out-in-9-days
That is a pretty bad 'article'.
The 'reporter' has worded it such that the reader has no idea which specs are for which device they mention.
Their 'sauce' [sic] mentions AMOLED displays, which in the current market, are a pain to get hold of, and HTC have already mentioned getting different types of screen (such as the Sony one a commenter has said) rather than use the AMOLED.
Well it's coming out anyway in the near future shame I still got another year on my contract.. The specs that have been mentioned seem very impressive I'm not sure about an even slighlty bigger screen it's big enough ain't it?
I bet my life that thats fake.

From what little evidence there is out there - at least from what little can be treated as in any way reliable - 15th September MAY be the day of the official announcement, with the actual device available some time thereafter.
One 'sauce' reckons an O2 spreadsheet shows it being available from mid-October.
Being little more than a month away from release - perhaps - I might have thought there would be more noise about WPS7, or am I just missing it? If locked down like the bright boys say it will be, WPS7 may be a killer - nice device or not. Backward compatability with WM6.5 anyone?

I'm really not worried about the launch on the HD3 to be honest. It's likely to have initial problems and updates will inevitable. I'll hang on for the length of my contract and get one when it's up? I'm sure some clever cooks gonna run the os on an HD2 anywez?

+1 I call shenanigans
Very Interesting, but a big but....
Looking at another article the specs seem resonable, except I do not believe the dual core bit (Two major steps in one phone?)
Otherwise it looks like a phine with peppersauce and a cream-vanillasauce on top to soften things.
I am worried about stability and performance (New OS, Bigger screen [375 Kpix vs 1000 Kpix], probably - as HTC-usual- no good graphic drivers, Dual-core?)
If as usual the graphics drivers suck again, screen will be slower as on HD, as there are almost 3 times the amount of pixels to manipulate while the proc only delivers about 1.4 times HD2 capacity.
Stability will be an issue as combining new Operating system, new techniques and new processors, probably new gui over WP7 rarely integrate without major issues.
Glad I just hava a proven good phone, I will let the new techniques cristallize to stability before I will buy one.
Fake Fake and Fake
All we have to do is wait and see for it to come out, just appreciate what u've got for now!
I think this is too good to be true. Just me.
I'm going to take a punt and offer an opinion - nothing more.
I think the announcement date is probably genuine - the timing feels about right - and I suspect that the specs aren't too far off the mark, although I certainly wouldn't treat them as gospel.
The timing of RTM is much trickier and may be the alarm bell that should convince me that this is fake. If it is to be a WPS7 device, an October release is rather early given that MS seem to be suggesting availability of WPS7 from December...last I looked anyway.
So I think there is a germ of truth submerged in a moderate quantity of bull excreta. Happy to be proved wrong either way though!
Wouldnt it make alot more business sence to drum up interest and market the phone pre-releases?
THis is not going to be released in such a short time frame just like hd2 release drag it out and you get more ppl interested
Feck off (and i have to write this to bulk up my reply)

Ya you're absolutely jumping the gun on this one. That's not only old news but doesn't prove (or even claim) anything we don't already know.
I really don't think we'll see them until 2012. If we do see them earlier, great. I want Tegra 3 AND Android 4.0 though. So unless the late 2011 ones have Ice Cream Sandwich, I'll still hold off. I don't trust any manufacturer enough to let them promise me an ICS upgrade. Maybe Motorola since they're all buddy buddy with Google.

I'll probably be selling the A500's in Mexico once the Kal-El models come out. I'll be able to sell it for about what they sell for now in the US. I'll make money and it'll be cheaper than if they bought them new here. Win-Win.
I'll have a "Looking To Buy" post in the general discussion, just keep an eye open for it around the turn of the year or when Tegra 3 tabs are available(in stores, not vaporware)

I may go that route myself, Samsung generally makes good products. Quality near Sony's without the megalomaniacal "make our own standards" in every package. It really sucks the patent crap between Apple and these devices. I'm really hoping that existing patent laws get annihilated soon, but considering politicians are all on the dole I don't see it happening.

Well.. yeah the galaxy is an awesome mobile phone, few doubts about it.
But why stall us all and delay the release of ICS? on december 2011 when I bought the note, I was told that the galaxy nexus has a better OS, but that Gnote should get it soon, therefore I bought it.
Having an outdated OS sucks, or at least it sucks when you expect it to actually update. Maybe nextime when we buy a phone we'll tell samsung that in q1 2012 we'll pay but delay them too.
Other than that, my screen has a decent scratch on it... but it doesn't really bother me, so much for gorilla glass.
Oh and with the new firmwares its impossible to record a call by using sanity. Those audio patches just silent the whole phone instead of allowing sanity to record.

You must understand that its not just Samsung that controls the roll out of the updates, they have to coordinate with operators around the world to roll out any updates because of so much operator specific **** that comes along with the phones.
Yes, Samsung can do better but name one OEM who has done better? HTC? Sony (Ericsson)? Motorola? Its all the same in Android club, sir. Only if you have a Google AOSP phone, you can rely on fast updates.
Begs a question- All competing platforms are calculated and reserved with updates- Why does Google has to release one major
OS release every 6 months? Why can't they have consolidated single annual update cycles?
Anyway, you are at XDA- the motherlode! Why do you wait for official updates when there are several talented devs bringing you top notch releases before OEMs do. Just root it and forget it!

What does ICS really bring to the table that most note users will really need?
The majority of users are not the ones that frequent XDA. The majority of users
just use the phone as a phone, email & internet device.
The "1%ers" try to squeeze every little bit out of it.
I use around 2400 minutes a month on the phone, 2-300 text messages & around 100-200 emails. No games, no huge amount of data. Maybe 1-2 gig per month.
Personally, I'm holding off on ICS until it's been "official" for a few weeks.
GB is tweaked to the point, at least on my device, that it is fast & stable.
You know ICS will need a few revisions before it is really as stable as GB.
If it wasn't for the "1%ers", I doubt these devices would be as good as they are, but, for the majority of users, I just don't see ICS being that big of a deal.

Hey friedje you're so smart... luck must have sent me here to be enlightened by your ingenious comments.
Let's just review your comments the same way you reviewed mine ok?
1.Never buy something for what it might become-wow! I am really thrilled and honored to see such an amazing sentence, too bad its meaningless. Never buy something for what it might become? *cough* BULL****. An update was supposed to be released by now, an update which is considered to be a cornerstone of android's development, or briefly speaking -a major change to the device.
2.95% of androids run gingerbread, perhaps you're right.. can't tell by the way you pull wisdom out your sleeves but.... galaxy note isn't just a normal android device. If I'm not wrong its Samsung's flagship phone, its pricey.. and promising.
3.That scratch doesn't really bother me... I'm honest. I just wanted to comment on the durability of the gorilla glass, or in fact about the allegedly scratch resistant screen that galaxy note has.
But other than that, nice to see that you blindly stick to your galaxy note, and how certain you are that it is flawless. If I had a company or a business I'd be looking for a worker\customer like you to blindly follow me too.
edit:
sorry I forgot to thank you for pointing out that "Samsung doesn't give credit". Did someone say smart-ass?

Yet another "fkn samsung where's my update" thread... can't you people just wait a month more ? It's just a software update, it's not like your phone is useless without ICS...
Samsung said you will get ICS and you will, Gorilla said the glass is scratch resistant and it is.
So...You are waiting for ICS and you have discovered scratch resistant is not the same as scratch proof.
You seriously need to lighten up.. its a phone dude, not life and death

Support for Android 3.x and 4.x apps. DriveMount really cool thing. With DosBox Turbo you can play DOS games with USB or Bluetooth mouse at ICS. And many more 3.x and 4.x great apps...
New many awesome settings, like "Hovering pen icon". It's amazingly cool helping feature, I really like it! Of cause other functions like "Force GPU rendering" and other from Android 4 also very helpful. Windows and transition animation scale settings will make a pleasant view for menus and other animations...
Also ICS is incredibly smooth!
I hope someone will fix Tablet mode for samsung stock ICS roms. AOSP good, but it kills many Note features, like stock camera, hovering pen icon, s planner, s memo and other samsung good things...
you know what? I take it back. both the hostile replies against friedje and the whining about not having ICS.
I was just in a mood to express my opinion after logging in every few weeks to check for an update.

It's still there, but it's nowhere near as bad.
I feel like the biggest reason we haven't seen the update is simply incorporating the driver's for the S-Pen and it's related things. Also the Galaxy Note runs at a unique resolution compared to everything else so that will cause some differences. If you've used any of the leaks they're pretty close, but they're still far from what I would consider something that should be released for everyone. I went back to CheckRom for my Note and for GB it runs really good. I was using CM9 which ran great, but I missed having the SPen and related apps as that was part of the reason I got the note. I would love ICS to be released right now, but even with GB the Note is still by far the best phone I've used. I love using my Note with Gingebread and Touchwiz more than using my Galaxy Nexus with 4.0.4
For me, the Galaxy Note is dead in the water. I went through 4 units, the last being croaked by ICS, and it also had the eMMc bug. Onwards and upwards. Talk of the Note 10.1 and Note Mk2 seem interesting, but by the time they hit the streets in the UK, other manufactures might have something else to consider.
These devices are way too expensive to take risks with, and considering the now tarnished reputation of the Galaxy Note, its a once bitten, twice shy situation. Its a great shame, the Galaxy Note could have been iconic, but its not. The experience of owning one soon becomes a burden. Watching the Samsung ads on the telly just making you feel a complete fool while you wait for the next replacement to arrive, and then, its only to find its just as bad as the one you sent back. Then comes the acceptance this is about as good as its going to get, so you keep it. I had in my mind that it would be out of date anyway, within a year or less, I could flog it on eBay and get a better, faster, more reliable, more feature rich upgrade. Samsung wasn't going to let me have that luxury, they hit me with the Ice Cream Sandwich. Well I'm not going to repeat that part of the story here, but suffice to say ICS to me meant 'Instant Crippled Samsungnote'. That was it, I'm out, I'm not sacrificing any more of my life in a quest to get something that really doesn't exist, and that something, is a product free from major defects and faults.

The second I find a phone just a big I'm jumping ship as well. I should have learned my lesson when I was getting crazy problems with the Samsung infuse. Note equally sucks

Good for you, mine is flying along with a great ROM and has never once faulted because I follow all instructions laid out.

Last I checked, this was the international version forums. I am 100% stock and locked and have had no problems. Hell, even with an occasional L2_hsic reboot, it is still better than an iphone.

Exactly, other devices have problems that affect day-to-day use for crying out loud. That LG 3D phone suffers from ghost calling, where the owner of the phone doesn't know calls were coming through, the iPhone dropped calls if you held the damn thing in a particular way! WTF are people whining about, when even the oh so mighty Apple even have flaws in their products that can affect all users, not just those who hack the crap out of them.
For a normal user who doesn't tamper, they will probably never know there is a fault with the emmc in the Note, everything else is pretty much software and can be sorted relativity easy. And for those users if something goes wrong Sammy will fix it, replace the unit, which ever, not the half arsed attempt like apple did and gave owners a cover!
They didn't fix it, they literally just covered the problem up.
Rant done!

Samsung has sold over 7 million Notes and it has been universally acknowledged as a huge success and Samsung are preparing to release a Note 2. Dead in the water? I think not.

Couldnt agree more !!
I have to say, of all the phone companies out there Samsung have always been my favourite, The build quality isnt as good as say..... HTC, but in terms of hardware ive never had a fault !
Samsung seem to be the only ''Developer Friendly'' company out there! Replacing bricks, no questions asked, Releasing Source code instantly (SGS3 code was released before the phone !)
it all boils down to the user, I wont judge you for not liking the Note, But no matter what you say, You will not stop me liking the Note
I love my Note (Phablet) !!
4 units and you still get the same "defects"?
i'd say it's a user error.

Really!! How so?
Completly agree.
I got a good offer to swap my note+200$ for a brand new s3 but I am holding because it is another Samsung Phone.
I still love the note because of big beautiful screen - nothing else.
Let's see what HTC comes with.
What is wrong with people....if there were so many problems in this smartphone it would never get such good critics or get sold a lot....so the problem is with 7million who are using it or just you who don't know what android is and what galaxy note can run under its hood...this is like BMW m3 ....stop whining and replace the inner parts to boost it up...

I dare say there are lot of very satisfied customers, but that is no excuse to continue to sell defective units, which it appears there are. Also, it is not an excuse to ignore, or disadvantage the minority who do most certainly have problems with the product..
Read my profile. I do know about andoid and where it came from, and I do know what runs under the hood of the 'note. Apart from that, I don't understand your argument. I own a Mitsubishi Truck and I don't care what's under the hood, that's Mitsubishis responsibility, and that's what they are paid to do.
Just found a guy on twitter, a Barrister and Advocate, slightly pissed with samsung. It just made me smile a little.

My Note is running Asylum (a CM9 build) ROM. I have had ZERO screen issues. Stock ICS isn't bad, Touchwiz definitely isn't my favorite framework, but the good thing about Android is you DO NOT have to keep it. The Note is by far my most favorite phone I've had (And I had an Iphone).

You say you had FOUR Notes. Okay, what happened to EACH of them? Did you brick each one via the emmc bug? Did you NOT learn your lesson? Give me a break! If you don't want to use your Note anymore, just move on from the phone and move on from the XDA forum. I'm just saying....
