My Defy's back panel opened accidentally when submerged in water. So i removed battery and all cards. But since i was out of station i couldn't do anything with the phone. For almost 40 hrs water was there inside my phone. I could see it in between the lcd screen and the outer gorilla glass. Gave the phone to a local repair center. They did something to dry out my phone. Now the phone boots up well, all the function and all the radios too are working.
Problem is,
1) screen shows some signs of water damage
2) Left edge of screen almost the left most 1 cm part does not sense touch (Works sometimes)
3) First capacitive button on the left does not work (works sometimes)
4) Proximity sensor does not work (the area where sensor is located looks empty coz notification LED can be seen from this sensor window. Guess the local repair guy fiddled with it)
So i want to repair all this damage done. Is this damage repairable or should i consider replacing any parts. Would replacing the screen be a good idea? where can i buy this screen and the proximity sensor as well
Thanks for your help in advance.
hello
A friend of my had the same accident and he take his phone to repair an they changed the display and now it is working perfectly...

Dude since you are in India buying parts has only one solution - ebay ! However, you may try going to Motorola service center and ask them if the parts can be availed! However, if in Delhi you may go to places like Gaffar market. Probably such places exists in your place too.. The local service guy may be able to tell you about it
Thanks a lot. I think I'll replace the touch screen digitizer. That will leave only the proximity sensor to be something about. I dont think we get this sensor as a spare part anywhere.
One more question. Camera shows inverted images in the display. Any fixes for it?

Did you get any solution for the Proximity sensor?
I´ve got the same problem. Seems like it´s on the motherboard and cant be replaced. Is it true?

Hello everyone..I recently replace the lcd for my niki htc...I bought the screen from ebay for $35 (plus shipping). Everything works fine but sometimes when i slide the phone the screen is wably or it looks like something is not connected and it moves but when i close it and i restart it again. it's fine or if i let it for awhile like that (so it goes on and off). So my question is...Is it the manufacture that made the screen, or is it something that it hasn't been connected right?
The other question is that my digitizer is broken in the up left corner and im thinking to replace it does any one can tell me how to take of the digitizer. i have found this website :http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/razbor_htc_touch_dual/ but it stops at the screen it doesn't tell you about the digitizer.
And the 3rd question is about that little piece it has fallen from somewhere while i dismantling my phone, i took a picture of it so someone can tell me what it is and where it goes.
Thank you very much for looking, and sorry for the noob questions first timer dismantling a phone and i loved IT!!!
You may wana have a look at the service manual, wich can be found here:
http://www.mikechannon.net/page1.html
It says that you can not disassemble it without replacing the speaker!
When you remove the speaker you need a new one. (or at least this is how I understood it
Maybe that part is the door for the MicroSD Card slot?
no i opened the cellphone 6 to 7 times so far. all you have to do is to unscrew the small screw that keeps the speaker in place so you can have more space to work with it.
all you have to do is to take off the digitiser where it gets connected. take the screen off. and raise the little black strip where the digitizer stripwires come out and push out the digitizer. it feels liked it doesn't go out but if you push it carefully it will. they have glue it with some kind of glue that it doesn't come off the digitizer but it stays on the cellphone so you can put in place your new digitizer...
If anybody needs help... pm me or leave a reply in this thread.
speaker rubber perhaps?
I just replaced my digitizer today (bought the handset from ebay - faulty touch screen). The little rubber that covers the speaker fell out in my hand when I was dismantling mine, so maybe thats what it is (looks similair).
Oh a quick question - after replacing my digitizer, my touch screen still doesnt work, even after hard reset - when asking to 'tap screen to set up device' it wont respond to any taps. Any ideas ?

my friend i think you have a bad digitizer, some people on ebay send defective digitizer and especially when they are from china they don't really care about sending a good one.... I had to send mine back 3 times!!!! i just got the last one 3 days ago and it took me at least a month and a half to send me a working one...If you pay with paypal...Tell the ebay user to send you a good one...Do not!! Do not!! send feedback until you got a good digitizer....Mostly it has to do with the connectors i guess where the digitizer connects.... Tell them that you need a new one and you can't wait for very long...tell them this is a customers cellphone and you need to have it fixed as soon as possible.. If they don't want to exchange for a new one dispute the payment!!! Don't wait too long...Do it Asap... As i told you there lots of defective digitizers....I had reset mine also but nothing happens i believe this is mostly hardware problem...If you have any questions about how to dismantle ask me... I have open my cellphone over 10 times cause of the digitizer
Thanks Nikos, Im fine with opening these devices they are easy enough to work with.
I purchased a digitizer for a Polaris not long ago and it worked perfect. Im gonna take the Nike apart tonight again and adjust/fiddle with the connections to make sure - I dont want to wait another 2 weeks for a replacement digitizer and pay for postage lol.
But i guess if it doesnt work tonight I will have to 'grin and bear it' and send it back
Just built in a replacement digitizer. Everything works quite well, some inaccuracies in the lower parts of the touch screen, but it works.
I managed to leave over a screw. And a barely visible stain between the Digitizer and the LCD.
But at least it is working again as a replacement phone and for testing various stuff...
btw, now knowing the phone from inside, that part could be the "door" between the SIM slot and battery. or the rubber part that directs sound to the microphone on the bottom front PCB.
cheers
Yesterdag I repaired a HD2 from a client.
His HD2 was one month before repaired by HTC because the motherboard was getting to hot and begun a rebootcycle. So HTC replaced the motherboard (i think)
One week ago, my client sat on the side of his HD2 and the LCD cracked (not the glass). No warranty anymore via HTC so he came to me.
So I was going to open the HD2 and I saw many faults during earlier repair (see the attachment).
I replaced the whole LCM, (i've done this repair for like a million times) and tested the LCM and it was working fine.
But when I placed the housing back, the backlight of the screen stops working after pressing to hard on the housing. I think some connections on the motherboard ain't working right. Maybe a short circuit?
Anybody knows what this problem can be?
Again, without the housing, the LCM module is working fine, no backlight problems.
Attachment (very important!):
See the bad report about earlier HTC repairment here:
http://www.touchfix.nl/reparaties/Reparatie HD2 HT033NW05788 27-02-2011.pdf
Nobody that has this problem before?
I'd say check for any loose connections 1st. If the housing itself is causing the backlight function to stop, it could be something more internal with the LCD/digitizer.
I'd say the digitizer must be replaced as a (whole unit together -LCD and digitizer together) as it looks to be damaged based on your point that the back-light does not work or stops functioning when pressure is applied.
By the way how did you repair those brass clips that were bent? Can one find replacements?
Look forward to your reply..
Good luck

Yes I replaced the whole LCD and digitizer, its called the LCM (see my first post).
But a strange thing is, that if I press on the battery cover (with some pressure)
it will turn sometimes on..
Any ideas?
Hi,
I had a small accident today with my HD2 . It felt from my pocket to the hard floor. It was in the leater pouch, but it hit right on the corner, where is no coverage.
I picked the phone up and was happy at first (no display cracks), but not for long. When I tried to turn it of, grey screed showed.
The device seems to be working, I can turn it on/off with the HW button...but I cant see anything.
As I said, there are no cracks of the glass layer so the digitizer should be ok. I just don't know actually.
Can anybody help me?

unfortunately you cant make that assumption, i have a hd2 with a badly shattered glass, (same as you, dropped from about 3 feet landed on the corner, shattered all the way to the other end of the phone) yet the digitizer and LCD worked perfectly for at least 18 months before finally the digitizer died, LCD still works fine.
My point being that just cos one part of the three (glass, digitizer, LCD) seems ok tells you nothing about the other two parts.
My guess is either the screen itself died, the connection on the mainboard broke/became unseated, or even that its unrelated to the screen at all and is in fact something else that broke and shows itself as a non responsive screen.
Im not sure if this is possible given that you have no screen to work with, and i guess something would need to be installed on the phone to make it work, but how about some software that shows your screen on the PC? you may even be able to tell if touching it is working.
Ok so basically I love the g2, but here is my problem, bare with me on this haha, BTW its completely stock n everything as its my 1st Android phone so didn't want to mess with it. So basically I broke my phone screen in January, bought new screen, followed a YouTube tutorial, replaced LCD+touchscreen, no issues super happy, had the odd issue where if I woke screen, would only be on for a second n then go back to sleep, but then upgraded to KitKat through computer software update, still nothing wrong, upgrade fixed the issue with the knock to wake, and then my worst day, smashed the screen again! On good Friday, ok I thought I'll just replace screen again, so I did, but when I put new screen on and tested it, all was well, until I made a phone call, the instant moment I press green call button, screen goes blank and won't come on no matter what, power button don't bring it back on or end the call, but I can hear the other person and they can hear me, had to turn phone completely n back on to be able to use it again, so I though hmmm dodgey screen, but just to be sure it wasn't the phone I put damaged screen back on, and the issue didn't appear, stayed lit up while in my hand, went off next to my ear, back on whole in hand, so I took it to local phone repair shop because I couldn't be bothered going through the hasstle getting refunds etc, they replaced screen, I went and tested it before paying them, guess what, same problem, so what exactly is going on? Has KitKat made the phone not work with a new screen other than the one I upgraded it with? I'm seriously confused and need some bodies help urgently my model is an unlocked lg g2 d802 16gb now I turned it on last week before I took it to be repaired, and it says I have software updates but I didn't bother installing them, is there a chance these could be related to my issue and possibly fix them? Its driving me nuts tbh
Chris
Hey Chris. It seems like your proximity sensor is messed up. I think the new screen you got yourself is worse quality or your damaged the proximity sensor when installing the screen.
Edit:
Please go into your phone app (where you call people) and type the following
3845#*802#
Then go into: HW Device Test and then ALC proximity test. Try testing your proximity sensor with your hand. It should change from far to near when your hand is about 2 inches from your phone. The proximity sensor is located next to the camera.

Ok thank you I will try that, I also thought a damaged sensor but when I put damaged screen back on after having the issue with my new screen it worked just fine, no blank screen when making a call, I retested it before I left it at phone repair shop, still was fine, then picked it up with a new screen and issue came back, I don't get why its been like this, I'm thinking bad quality screen and maybe try scratching the sensor area of the new screen to allow more light in? It may be to dark for it, what exactly do I do if it works fine when using that code, try another screen?
Chris
I doubt it will work when you use that method. It's just to make sure that it's the proximity sensor that's the problem and not some loose connection. And yes, a new screen would be your best bet.
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Ok I won't try that method then lol, what if it doesn't work when I use that code, as I said I didn't have the issue with the damaged screen which I tested after having the issue with the replacement screen I'd purchased, so how do I know its not just the screen not allowing the sensor to see? Is there anyway I can reset the sensor to relearn maybe?
Chris
If you follow my steps, nothing bad will happen. It's just a way of troubleshooting the proximity sensor. I still think you should do it.

Ok I've spoken to phone repair shop and they agree it worth a try to see if its the screen or not, I'll let you know on Saturday after I've been and tested it
Chris
I just had this exact same issue.Turns out the inside of the screen was just dirty. I opened it up and took a q-tip to the inside of the screen and it worked perfectly after that. Also check the readings of the light sensor, as it is right next to the proximity sensor, if the screen is the problem it will likely have low readings as well.
Great I'm glad somebody else has encountered this issue, its been driving me nuts lol ok so I dial in the code that's been mentioned and what are the labels in the menu for the proximity and light sensors? I'm thinking its just a crap screen as the broken 1 worked fine after I put it back on after testing new screen, and I reckon the screen the repair shop has used is also ****e quality, but I just want to cancel it all out as I don't have the phone to hand to inspect as they still have it lol is there a picture somebody can post up to show what to not cover when replacing the screen and applying adhesive tape etc? Just so I can show them to make sure they have done it all properly.
Chris
Ok so just to update the problem, I went to the phone shop today, did the test, it was showing near all the time, but the light sensor reading was quite high, 166 or something, but I then tried squeezing the screen, index finger on back and thumb on front, gently squeezed it, and proximity sensor started showing far, and near as I moved my hand over it, but after few seconds, went back to showing near constantly, so I think its the screen not been seated, told the shop to take screen off, give it a good clean and reseat it. This sound good to you guys?
Chris
Anyone?
Bump! I'm only wanting a little extra advice so I don't end up paying more money out for another screen when it could possibly be proximity sensor? I think it was just the screen not seated properly, anybody have an idea or something else to either assure my choice or point me in another direction?
Chris
Hello,
Had my N4 for about 2 years now, right from the start. It fell on the floor a few times (no bumper or case) so I guess that's the root cause of the issue.
I have a horizontal thick line that is untouchable.
Attaching a screenshot of me just drawing straight lines top to bottom and as you can see no lines are drawn in that area.
A repair shop took it apart, cleaned some parts and put it back together again, said it's not a dust thing but more likely either a screen or touch sensor replacement.
I was thinking about Ebayying it because it will be a whole log cheaper.
Is this it - ebay dot com /bhp/nexus-4-screen
And what if it's a 'sensor' chip issue? is that something else?
Also, I'm a fairly technical guy so I won't have any issues with assembling it. (I hope).

If you had asked before taking it into the repair shop , i could have saved you a couple of bucks
Anyway , buy it from gadgetfix (ebay) , if you're gonna buy it from somebody. Else , you might have gps signal/proximity sensor/notification light issues. Some make a frame from scratch , which is supposed to be a magnesium alloy , they probably don't get the mixture right , signal degrades , gps is affected the most. Some have deeper proximity sensor sockets , which creates a gap and the sensor registers that gap as an object , so it'll turn off during calls and will not turn back on until the call ends. Plus you won't be able to use apps like Gravity Screen. Some assemblies don't have a notification light diffuser , which is bad because nexus 4 has 2 leds that light up as different colors to achieve off-colors such as purple. The one on the left will give out blue the other one red , when it goes through the diffuser , it becomes purple. If you don't have that , you're just gonna see those 2 colors and it will blind your eyes but you will be able to see the phone's internals if you think that's cool
Disassembling it is pretty easy , you won'T have problems. Buy the assembly with frame not just the glass and the lcd. If you can't manage it somehow (unlikely) , just pm me , i'll guide you on skype or something.
Cheers!
