I would suggest trying out cyanogenmod 7 (link below) first to get used to flashing a new rom. The installation steps are quite straightforward and you will have lots of fun (!!) flashing all the roms on offer.

Then you aren't unlocked. You should probably read the Atrix stickies to get up to date on everything and read the links members put up for you in this thread. If you still have trouble, I will be glad to help.

yeah now trying to unlock the boot--if any i"ll post here...thanks...

Remember to be very carefull when unlocking the bootloader, and flashing a rom for the first time, it can brick your phone. Good luck!

I'am also and noob, but this is what I did to instal CM7 Rom. Don't forget to back up your stuff.
Go through the instruction on this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871
Download from megaupload is not available, the alternate link is
http://www.mediafire.com/?x4m1ul78tzwsdmc
Follow the instruction.
After this download superuser from market and then root manager. Open root manager and select Flash ClockworkMod recovery, it will download CWM and CWM will be flashed. Open root manager again and select back up your current ROM, it will ask confirmation and then reboot and do its thing and again reboot. After that download the rom you want to flash and copy it to your internal SD card (don't unzip it, copy the zipped file). Go to the ROM manager and select Install rom from the SD card and select the rom you just copied. It will ask confirmation and then reboot and do its magic and you will have your ROM installed

thanks mate... I really wanted a generic unbranded rom so I dont get into trouble..
If I can get an untouched generic rom, it would be great..
if not, can you recommend a good custom rom mate?
I'm still using the stock rom which came with mine here in Japan.
Funnily enough I posted this post today about Roms here.
I'm not wanting to take a chance with radios here just yet. Hoping to find an English speaker who has successfully done it without issues. Flashed loads of times here in Japan with Windows Mobile, but the first time cost me a 1000 dollars in data charges because I entered the wrong access point info. Can't afford that kind of mistake at the moment.
Did a factory reset not help you?
That's a shame... that's why I don't want to use a custom one.. $1000 is still too much...
Factory reset doesn't help

You have to use my downgrade guide, it is a sticky in the DHD android dev subforum. You can replace the PD98IMG.zip with the ROM of your choice. Here is how to get any PD98IMG.zip:
Download any RUU
Run the RUU.exe, do not proceed
Search for rom.zip in your PC's temp folder (open Run prompt, type %TEMP%)
Copy that rom.zip into your desktop and rename it to PD98IMG.zip
Close the RUU
Follow the downgrade guide
appreciate your help mate..
I have ran the ruu but not proceeded it but I can find the PD.zip file in the temp folder..
any suggestions..
Read the instructions again mate, it is "rom.zip"

Sry I did not notice this.. So, did you rename it exactly to "PD98IMG.zip"? If it does not recognize correctly named file, format your SD card to FAT32 with full format, no quick format. Your SD might also be a bit faulty, so it may help to try another SD.
thanks for you response mate..
I guess Im getting confused at the "attached file" bit..
where is the attached file? (red text below)
How to downgrade:
•IF you have a branded device, you have to make a Goldcard. Use "mmc2" instead of "mmc1"!!
•Download the attached file and extract it•Get stock 1.32 PD98IMG.zip ROM, mirror
•Connect Desire HD to a computer. Charge only, USB Debugging enabled!
•Open up a cmd and go to Downgrade folder, execute:
appreciate your help

[ROM]GingerJane 1.3 - Sense 2.1/Gingerbread 2.3.4 - FixedSh*t Edition

Due to potentially dangerous problems with the Gingerbread leak radios, I have pulled my download links and suggest you go back to froyo.
As many know, I don't do real custom roms, just repacks of stock/leaks for users. Due to the bugs in the leak this is based on, I am unable to stay stock. I will do my best, and will list any modifications I use.
Wanna report a bug?
Did you do a data/cache wipe before installing? If no, please don't report.
Can you provide logs if it is a crash? If no, please don't report.
Did you do any modifications? New kernel? If yes, please don't report.
Otherwise please PM me details, with a log if available.
Community attributed fixes:
imoseyon kernel v2.5.3GBtest2 - Fixes Camera
PSCII.apk (chingy) - fixes usb mounting with custom kernels
HTCSetupWizard.apk (aiccucs) - No more activation of death

Bluetooth issues - Should be fixed, please report back.

Wifi Tether ??? - Need details + logs before I look into it

Extremely Slow charge - Need details + logs before I look into it
Slow 4G performance - Disputed, no LTE where I live, need massive details
Unable to download new HTC widgets - NOT BROKE, server side issue, like in 2.1 leak for Eris.
Uninstalling an application causes it to "freak" - Need details + logs before I look into it
Gingerbread leak is alpha software, it is buggy. All roms based off it will be buggy. If this bricks your phone, it is your fault not mine. If it causes any harm, your fault not mine.
DOWNLOAD LINK REMOVED
Radio flash is not needed if you are upgrading from another Gingerbread Sense rom. Data/cache wipe is recommended.
Installation Instructions:
Download both the ROM and the radio.
Rename PG05IMG_gingerradio.zip to PG05IMG.zip and drop it onto the root of your SD Card.
Put mecha_gingerjane_1_3.zip onto the root of your SD Card
Boot into recovery
Do a Nandroid Backup!
Perform a factory reset
Flash mecha_gingerjane.zip, DO NOT REBOOT
Using ADB, reboot to bootloader
adb shell
reboot bootloader
If in fastboot mode, switch to bootloader mode and allow the updated radios to flash.
Enjoy!
Since everyone wants screenshots, here it is. It looks ...like...stock.

If not... can we flash back to froyo w/ a compatible radio? or is it GB or Bust?
This question had to be asked at some point.
bloat is still in this one right? So the basic debloat and this one are different?

Hello XDA community. I recently got a new phone from verizon (Galaxy S Fascinate) because their recent update screwed up my other phone (which was rooted) and now I need help getting this phone rooted. Ive seen some videos and they have links to different files in each one. So I was wondering if you the community can help me out here. The drivers I need to get my phone into download mode arent responding. Ive gone to Samsung's support page and they give me the driver, but the laptop isnt recognizing the device. Im sure I have the right one, but in case I dont can someone here lead me to the correct one?
They install fine, but the phone wont connect so I can access files and run it through odin. Below is my phones info. Im on the latest EH03 Software.

The reason why i will never flash a custom ROM on my SII

For some month's ago i had a Galaxy S Plus and i liked it, but i wanted to flash a custom ROM on it. So i updated it with Odin to the newest stock firmware, and i innstalled Clockworkmod so i could flash a custom ROM.
So i flashed the custom ROM (MoonRom) on it using AROMA innstaller and it went successfully. And i used the ROM for one day, and it was fast, and so on, and had a funny sound when u pressed on the dialer keypad, like a water drop sound
I liked the ROM, but i wanted it back to stock (warranty reasons) .So i put to phone into download mode and i used Odin + the pit file and flashed it back to stock firmware and wiped out and formatted everything on it using recovery mode.
And later i used the phone dialer, and the keypad sounds from the custom ROM was still there, after i reflashed it????
I was extremely confused i flashed a billion stock firmwares on there and that water drop sound when u tapped the dialer keypad was still there. I had formatted it and everything and it was still there after flashing back????
I know own a Galaxy S II, and i will never flash somethign custom on there i am afraid that if i do that and then reflash back. Something on the old rom will ble left.
After that i gave my mom the phone. And i was extremly confused...
Maybe the keypad sound is left on the sd card?

So do you know any way to get the keypad sounds back??? And also the keyboard sounds are also left from the custom ROM.
If you flashed back using Odin then its impossible that the sounds remain.
I can make you a flash package that should enable the stock samsung sounds if you really want it? You just have to tell me what firmware you will be running i.e. Gingerbread or ICS?

Flashing roms, tinkering, working out issues and resolving them, making device better is what XDA is about and where the enjoyments is, If you dont like that or dont have the aptitude, patience to learn why are you even here or have a Android device?
My suggestion is to get a Nokia 3310 or an iPhone, Or at least do not come here and bore us with stories about why you dont want to flash your phone.

I assume you are running a "custom" recovery (clockwork)? This is why it failed. Only way to install will be to flash back to stock recovery as someone above mentioned. Probably not even worth the trouble.

I assume you are running a "custom" recovery (clockwork)? This is why it failed. Only way to install will be to flash back to stock recovery as someone above mentioned. Probably not even worth the trouble.

Anyone mind letting me know how to flash back to stock recovery? Is there a stock recovery img that I just flash in CMW? I'd like to retain root but still be able to perform future updates.
