How To Install A NAND Android ROM On Your T-Mobile HD2
(I am linking to several Original Threads in this tutorial. The "Nice Thing To Do" is hit the "Thanks" button at the bottom of those threads to let the author know we appreciate their help)
mskip wrote an excellent tut over on the Leo forums. I used his instructions to create my own method, which has never given me issues.
My method has been used by others and has a 100% success rate as of this writing.
You MUST be HSPL'd. This is not a joke. If you attempt this method without HSPL, your phone won't boot. I can not help you if you do this. If you have the 3.14 radio, try flashing: this stock ROM before HSPL. Thanks to xmoo for the link! Original thread is here.
Read the following steps. If you're confused, read the explanations below.
(Preparing)
Folder: Create a new folder on your Desktop. I named mine Flash. Put all downloads here.
HSPL: Cotulla's HSPL 3 is located here. (Original thread is here)
Task29: Download the Task29.exe program located here. Unzip it to a new folder. Replace the RUU_Signed.nbh file with your favorite radio. I use 2.15.50.14 (Original thread is here)
MAGLDR: Get MAGLDR 1.11 (or the latest version!) located here. Unzip this to a new folder.
ROM: Visit HD2 NAND Android Development thread here on XDA and download your new ROM. I am currently using this one, but will probably have a different one tomorrow Unzip this to a new folder.
SD Card: Back up everything you want to keep from your SD card, and then format it. Hint: dcim is where your pictures are stored (File System: Fat32, Allocation unit size: 16 kilobytes) Personally, I like to uncheck the "Quick format"; it takes up to an hour but ensures my card is in the best shape possible. Once your format is complete, you may replace your backed up files.
(Flashing)
(*Optional: Remove your SD and SIM cards, if you are paranoid, like me )
Connect your phone via USB to the PC and wait for any drivers to install.
Task29: Navigate to the Task29 folder and right-click on task29.exe and "Run as administrator". Your phone will reboot to the initial flash screen. You will have to reset to Bootloader.
Wait for your PC to update the drivers again.
MAGLDR: Navigate to the MAGDLR folder and right-click on ROMUpdateUtility.exe and "Run as administrator". Your phone will reboot to a new boot screen.
Wait for your PC to update the drivers again.
You should be booted to the new MAGLDR screen and see a series of options. Use your volume rocker to highlight "USB Flash" and press the green call button to select it.
Wait for your PC to update the drivers again.
ROM: Navigate to your new ROM folder and right-click DAF.exe and "Run as administrator".
Congratulations! When your phone reboots, it should start MAGLDR which will immediately boot your new Android NAND ROM!
Now, here are the details about the above instructions. You should only need them if you are confused.
(Preparing)
I use this to keep myself organized. I own several HTC phones and flash them all, so keeping things separate is a must for me.
Having a Hard Secondary Program Loader is a must for any NAND flash, whether it be Windows Mobile or Android. This will void your T-Mobile warranty, but can be fixed by flashing a Stock T-Mobile ROM via your microSD card. Check my sig for the tutorial link on how to do that.
This is the easiest method to do a task 29. The other is using mtty, which is beyond the scope of this tutorial. Task29 completely erases the existing files and partitions, preventing any loose data bits from causing issues with a new flash. You should always Task29 between NAND ROMs.
MAGLDR: A group of devs have been working on a NAND loader for some time and Cotulla and the Dark Forces Team (DAF) were the first to release a working loader. There may be more to come in the future, but this is the first (and has Tetris built in )
You should never ask the "best ROM for my phone" question. Every chef works hard on their build and considers it the best. Every user has their favorite chef and considers them the best. You should shop around to find the one that fits you best.
I consider formatting the SD card a must if I have any data written to it by a ROM. If you have installed Android to your card, you definitely want to do this!
(Flashing)
Your phone will boot into several different modes throughout the process. Each mode may require separate drives for WMDC to talk to it.
To reset to your bootloader, pull the battery and replace it. Hold down the "Volume Down" rocker and press the power (End Call) button. The phone should boot up to the tri-color screen. If it did not, keep trying!
Your PC may not need to search for drivers at this point, but wait and see anyway, just in case
MAGDLR will work as your new bootloader, but you can always access the original tri-color bootloader if you need to.
Don't worry if you get the missing "ADB" driver warning here. Only PCs with the Android SDK properly installed will have this driver.
You must flash your new ROM from the #4 screen via USB. It is the only way and the tri-color Bootloader method won't work here.
Again, you can ignore the missing "ADB" driver if it occurs. See above x2 for explanation.
Some chefs are renaming "DAF.exe" to "Install.exe" or "ANDR_INSTALL.exe". No matter what it's named, it should be the blue icon. See your ROM thread for detailed installation instructions if you get confused here.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the plethora of information. In this case, it wasn't needed but most of the time it is
Error 262 means there is a link error between your phone and the PC. Some have solved this by re-installing ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center. Some people said it was solved by simply unplugging the phone and trying a different USB port or cable.
After installing android rom in nand, device continously reboots
I followed all your steps and installed everything (there war an error encountered while installing the rom in the last step) but when my phone boots into android, after about a minute it will just restart itself and continue the same over and over without ever fully going into android.
can you please tell me how to get over this?

It looks like the Android build you chose is either incompatible or was somehow corrupted when you downloaded it.
I suggest you delete the copy you have on your PC and download a different ROM, and then start over again.
Since there was an error, you don't want to try a fresh install without a task 29 and reinstalling hspl.
If you are using the Euro version of the HD2, don't try to install a TMOUS ROM, and vice versa. If you aren't sure, ask the chef who posted the ROM you want.
Hope this helps!
Radio Version
2.07.50.27_2
I think that the RADIO has to be 2.08.50.xx or a .50 greater.

One thing that was specified but not in the steps was HSPL. If you don't have that, you can't flash.
After having a bit of problem using the original tut you reference in your first post(basically it got locked on gogogo and a variety of problems thereafter), I am very happy to report that your variation on the method not only worked for me, but worked on the first attempt. And it has thus far done so each time I have tried it since. You cannot imagine my relief after all the frustration I had previously. So just wanted to let you know how helpful I found your post. Thanks!
The only edit I would suggest is that I believe USB Flashing is option 5 now instead of 4.
FWIW I was originally on ROM 2.13.531.1 (90963) WWE with Radio 2.10.50.26(now on 2.14.50.04).

I just tried a fresh download of MAGLDR 1.11 and the option is still #4. Did you perchance grab version 1.12?
It would still work, but 1.12 gives you the additional option of installing and Windows 7 Phone ROM.
Yes on MAGLDR the option is 5 instead of 4.
Other than that, and the part about removing your sim and SD card, looks like an excellent guide.

I am updating the tutorial to reflect on the changing menu numbers, thank you!
As far as the SIM and SD card removal, I did mention that this is optional but recommended. Yes, I realize that this is from the early days of flashing and is more than likely not needed, but in my defense this is my own method and I have never, ever had a bad flash. I've owned several HTC phones going back for a few years now and have not bricked a single one. I would consider that a pretty good track record, considering the number of posters who did brick their phone and have no idea what went wrong.
In light of your input, I will re-word the OT to ensure that the "optional" part is clarified.
Oh I totally hear ya.
I've never had a bad flash either. I think that some of the "Brickensteins" just do something wrong and don't mention it (like unplugging the phone mid-flash).
In your favor, I did read in one of the WP7 tutorials that the sd card should be removed, but since I don't plan on flashing that any time soon, I'll leave that wisdom with wiser hands
Thank you very much

Ok do this hold the volume button down while powering on your HD2 and see if the multicolor bootloader screen comes up. If so you are not fubared. If you get bootloader you can save your HD2. Click on my Guide linked in my sig and read it then click the links at the top of my guide if you want to install Android or the link for WP7 if you want to install it. The links I have at the top of my guide are links to very good and extensive guide. If you want come post back here and I or others will help you and if you want to just PM me.

You are using MAGLDR 1.13, not 1.11. On 1.13 (not covered by this tutorial), you have to choose "ROMUpdateUtility.exe", not "DAF.exe".
hello, I was trying to put the android on my phone with the attached files but landed in a very awkward situation. my phone is not going ahead from the white screen saying HTC.
It seems that I don't have the operating system in it. as earlier when the white screen turns up i got the rom version number which i am not getting it right now.
moreover when i try to flash the original ROM iti not taking the current and updated rom version number just an empty space. can anyone help me regarding this issue.
i am unable to upload the android file as it's size increases the lotted size, it's name is DFT LEO NAND ANDROID.
I IWLL BE VERY THANKFUL TO PERSON WHO RESOLVED MY PROBLEM.....PLEASE HELP ME
Firstly, you have posted this in the wrong thread.
Secondly, don't worry, your phone is ok.
Thirdly, the information you need is in this thread. Read it carefully.
Are you sure that you installed the radio and that you did this after installing hspl? Your bootloader screen shows that you have 2.08.hspl, which is correct and you have the attachment for the correct radio. I suggest going back to bootloader and reflashing the radio (just to be sure). Which magldr version did you install and did you install it as Administrator? You should use magldr 1.11. After installing magldr, the phone should boot into the magldr boot menu. You can read the full step by step process here.
yeah i noticed after you said... anyway now it is posted and what can i do

Well, since you ask, go and read what they pointed you to.
In 90% of the cases it is a small mistake from our part that leads to these problems,
so even if you think you did everithing as iot was supposed to be, read again and reflash everything.
There is this new and verry good installer here - it can do everything you need, it's LeoAdvancedRUU 1.0.4 - search the forum for the thread.

thanks for the help lms1407.
after going to reflash of my memory i will tell u what i have done step by step. i iwill make sure i will not miss a single step.
1.download all the files ....HSPL,ROM AND ANDROID ROM.
2. FLASH THE HSPL WHILE IN ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT. PUT THE PHONE IN THE BOOTLOADER AND FLASH THE HSPL WHILE CONNECTED THROUGH USB.
3. NOW WHILE TRYING FLASH THE ROM IT SAYS THT IT WILL TAKE 10 MINUTES TO DO THAT BUT MINE ONE JUST COMPLETED IN LESS THAN A MINUTE. I MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE SCREENSAVERS ARE NOT DISABLED AND WAS CONTINUOUSLY WATCHING THE PROCESS.
THIS IS A TIME WHEN PROBLEMS STARTS. AFTER THAT WHEN I TRIED TO REBOOT IT STRUCK IN THE WHITE SCREEN HAVING HTC LOGO. THEN AGAIN I TRIED TO FLASH THE ROM WITH SAME VERSION BUT THIS TIME THE CURRENT AN D UPDATED VERSION NUMBER WAS NOT COMING UP OVER WHERE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE. I AGAIN CLICK NEXT AND FLASH THE ROM. AFTER THAT ALSO MY PHONE IS STILL ON THE WHITE SCREEN WITH HTC WRITTEN AT THE CENTRE.
4. I TRIED TO INSTALL THE DFT ANDROID BUT WAS GETTING AN ERROR. FILE ATACHED.
AFTER THIS I AM UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING. THESE ARE THE STEPS IN DETAIL WHICH I HAVE FOLLOWED OR HAD DONE WHILE INSTALLING THE ANDROID.
CAN U PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I HAVE DONE WRONG AND WHERE I MADE A MISTAKE.
Both myself and nobnut referred you to the guide for how to do this. Please read and follow those steps.
Exactly what stage are you at? You mention trying to flash hspl and then the next minute you speak about flashing the rom, what about all of the steps in between?
1. Flash HSPL - 2.08.hspl (check bootloader to ensure it shows 2.08.hspl and not 2.08.0000)
2. Flash radio 2.08.50 or higher .50 radio
3. Install magldr 1.11 (Run as Administrator)
4. In magldr go to option 4: Usb flasher
5. Let usb drivers install
5. When screen shows Wait USB......USB, then AND ONLY THEN flash the rom (again as Administrator).
You really need to read the instructions I linked to in post 2.
Step 1 - Stop using CAPS!!!
Step 2 - Read the instructions posted
Step 3 - Boot into Bootloader by holding the volume down button while you power on
Step 4 - Flash this Radio (version 2.15.50.14**)
Step 5 - Flash MAGLDR (see instructions linked to in post number 2)
Step 6 - Flash your desired Android ROM
Step 7 - Read the instructions

Don't write with caps on, please!
Did you flash radio again? Just in case....
First of all, after flashing hspl you have to go in bootloader and then try to flash Magldr 1.11 and then go in magldr by holding the power button while magldr menu shows!
Then choose usb flasher - number 4 in the menu - select with left hard button - then when it say usb... you have to connect the usb cable
and then open the directory on your computer, where the actual android rom is
- important -
unpack the original archive that you downloaded, dont reuse the same directory, because some files might be missing!
first no caps........thanks
second by rom i mean radio my mistake i apologize for it...
third at the start of this thread i have uploaded the files and screen shot which i have used and getting problem respectively.
fourth can i start from the beginning because when i start doing that i am not getting the version number which i am using in the screen as attached earlier. is it alright?
fifth i want my phone back guys you are great people help me in this matter.
Your picture is so small and blurry that nothing can be seen on it.
As long as you can still get into bootloader you can still do the steps. Just follow them.

Stop...
I think I understand where you have 'gone wrong'...
Basically, after you flash MAGLDR, the phone will reboot. This is normal BUT you don't have a ROM flashed to boot into at this point so the phone will just hang. Download the Android ROM you want and follow these steps. But only if you are sure you have flashed a Radio:
Pull the battery out of your phone and put it back in.
Press and hold the power button until you see the MAGLDR menu appear.
Then select 'USB Flasher' using the volume button.
Then press the left hand button (send button).
Then plug in your USB cable.
Then flash your Android ROM as Administrator.
The phone will then reboot into Android and you should be ok. (It might take a long time to boot - be patient).

Not if you've already flashed, the winmo rom is no longer there and all data is gone. the only way back to winmo is to flash a new rom.
I saw a few people asking on how to install WP7 on their HD2 and thought I will try to help out by giving a short guide with links for those that struggle to find all the different information. Please make sure that you read the installation instructions for the ROM you wish to install as this does not replace those...its ONLY meant to help those looking for information. Also read the information in each link posted for each step. Please feel free to add any corrections, installation tips etc into this thread.
CREDITS
I would like to mention that everything you read in this post is just gathering of information from other threads and that the credit is not due to me BUT to those people that put in a lot of effort to make all this possible to us. When you thank people...thank those in the threads listed below as they are the ones deserving the credit. Also thanks to XDA for making all this possible to us the community and for running well organized forums...your efforts are appreciated.
WARNING
· When installing WP7 your SD Card will be formatted during the installation process. Please make sure that you have made a backup of your SD Card prior to installing.
· When installing WP7 your phones warranty will no longer be valid.
· Please know there is a risk of bricking your phone...however the risk is very slim, but its there.
Steps of installation
1) Install HSPL2
2) Install Radio (2.14.40.04)
3) Install MagLDR (Ver 1.12 or Ver 1.13)
4) Install WP7 ROM
5) Install Zune
6) Install WP7 SDK
7) Install XAP's
8) Video
9) Additional Information
10) Trouble Shooting
Step 1 – Install HSPL2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433
To check your HSPL version hold the volume down button...press the power button (red phone button at bottom left) till phone reboots.
· You need HSPL2.08 or higher
If you have to downgrade your SPL version in order to get to HSPL2.08 have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898128 and at the bottom you will see a post explaining a bit more with this link to ROM's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623283
Step 2 – Install Radio
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
Make sure you read up on the radio's and that the radio you select will work on your phone. Example...don't use a USA radio (1024 ROM) for a 512 (ROM).
· Get Radio (I used Leo_RADIO_2.14.50.02)
· Reboot Phone – press volume down button to enter boot loader
· Run CustomRUU (From Radio folder on PC)
· Follow instructions on PC screen
· You will notice on phone and PC that its installing
Step 3 – Install MagLDR
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893618
· You need MagLDR 1.12 or higher
· Reboot Phone – press volume down button to enter boot loader
· Run ROMUpdateUtility (From MagLDR folder on PC)
· Follow instructions on PC screen
· You will notice on phone and PC that its installing (It might wait a bit on 96% but don’t worry about that its normal)
· Boot into MagLDR by holding power button down
Step 4 - Install WP7 ROM
I would recommend to install one of the ROM’s that has already unlocked your phone as it will ease your process. Choose a ROM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=977
You need installed MAGLDR 1.12 or higher (Done in Step 3)
· Enter MAGLDR loader by pressing and holding the "Power button" if you aren’t already in it (End of Step 3).
· Choose point 5 - "USB Flasher" then press Green button
· Run DWI.exe (Vista/ W7 user should do that with administrator rights)
· Done, you have WP7 ROM on your device
Step 5 – Install Zune
http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/B/4/5B41E996-7CC5-400B-802C-69FBB3B492EF/ZunePackage47.exe
Step 6 – Install WP7 SDK
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920275

Yes its a good thread, already sent a couple of newies there.
Thanks...I just thought seeing that so many people helped out with information I could give a bit back by trying to help others with some of the information consolidated in one place helping others.
Does radio 2.12.xx etc support 576RAM? Since this radio is somewhat best for battery life and reception in the UK i've heard?
Yes, I have used the 2.12.xx Radio as well and it should work fine.
Also after step 3, my phone is stuck on HTC logo, I cannot go into MALGDR at all :\?
Any help?
Try pulling out our USB cable and see if it gets past it. If not try reflashing Magldr...but USB cable still plugged in might stop you at the HTC screen while booting the phone...happened with me once. Let me know...
Still not working :\, I reflashed MAGLDR but it still stuck on HTC logo with white background. I tried removing usb etc as well. !!
Which Magldr did you use...and maybe try another radio. I used the 2.15 radio on installaton and after that flashed the 2.12 and then 2.14. Maybe see what happens if you use the 2.15 radio and flash magldr again after that.
Quick question...did you boot into Magldr by holding the power button down and keeping it in when powering up? Meaning...does that part work to get you into Magldr...
I could't get into MAGDLR at all. After it finishes flashing it gets stuck on HTC Logo. I took battery out waited 30 seconds, then tried going into MAGLDR but it goes straight into HTC Logo.
So far i've reflashed 2.15.xx, then flashed ROMUltility.exe etc and its still stuck on HTC Logo? Have I bricked my phone :O???
I used MAGLDR 1.13, the weird thing is that when I flash, it goes straight to 100% really quick, instead of getting stuck at 96% that you mentioned.
Please help me out xP
EDIT: Problem solved, I installed HSPL2 and flashed a 1.42. I needed to install HSPL3 and flash 2.08. My bad haha! Its all good now, downloading WP7 ROMs now ! mwhahahah

Guys I hagve been reading this site for 2 days and am still very very confused as to actually move forward.
Been following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945427
Step by step even though there is no explaination as to why I do things And everytime I am thinking "do they mean i do this now???"
I mean a tutuorial for noobs should tell me this stuff????
So I got to here:
From the guide
5. install maglard 1.13 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893618
Run romupdateutility.exe as an admin and install
Now my phone not getting past HTC splash screen.
No numbers showing radio version or anything.
PLEASE - I am willing to take this step by step.., what is the next step I should take to get my phone working with a Android rom?
I thanks you in advance for any assitance. I am probably too frustrated to help myslef at this point. I have loaded custom firmwares on my iphones but this HTC process is doing my head in and the guides and youtube vids are not helping.
THE ONLY reason I am trying a new rom is I have a Telstra HD2 and not a Telstra sim. It seemed to want to use Telstra for data, and I was advised the easiest (ha!0 way to do this is get a cooked rom and load it.
Thanks for your help.

If the last step you took was to install magldr, of course your phone won´t boot, since you didn´t flash any build the phone could run on?
Or have i missed something?
Normaly, if you are setting things up to install some android build you have to run a file called daf.exe (only as an example, i´ve been flashing just one particular build with magldr), that daf.exe will partition the nand according to the needs of the build, that particular daf.exe was delivered with.
Now you have to enter "ad recovery" from the magldr menu (power on and keep power button pushed) and from there you would have to install from zip.
Have you been that far taking all the necessary steps? Leaving out the nand partitioning with the daf.exe is a common mistake i have read often about.
Thanks so much for those posts.
I think I have damaged the phone now trying things ..!
OK it has been 3 days and nights of trying stuff, let me try and summarise where I am at.
I managed to get magldr working, and used the menus to browse to a ZIP rom on the SD card and flashed it.
It was stuck in a continuous boot loop - see Andriod splash for about 10 secs, then reboot, repeats...
The best way forward from what I could read in threads was to just re install a stock ROM and start again, and try another cooked ROM. It was during this process that it failed, it now seems to have NO firmware on it, as I do not get any radio version numbers or anything.
NOW when I boot the phone - I cannot get magldr. It just goes to the white HTC splash screen and hangs forever.
Everything I try to flash now is stuck at 0% and never completed.
THE ONLY thing I seem to be able to install / get to talk to the HD2 is HSPL4, which when completed gives me the "WE HACKED IT" message. Apart from that I cannot install radios, roms or MAGLDR.
However the MAGLDR flash process DOES show 100% completion, I just cant get it to load by holding power button. As I mentioned above, I DID have MAGLDR working previously but wont play ball now.
Thanks for any tips, I think I need to not look at it for a while.
UPDATE = for some reason, it is now accepting the stock Telstra ROM flash process...?
STILL NO MAGICLDR so I cant load my cooked ROMS.. any suggestions are hugely appreciated.

Hi,
I would suggest KEVIN134's TOOLKIT (Don't forget to thank him)
Read the thread carefully and follow his step by step guide for beginners.
Try to install one of his suggested ROMS.You can always change it at a later date.
At least you will have something.
OK thanks. I have now gotten original Telstra ROM back. I hope to start fresh in the morning and follow your link to the letter. I hope it is a good guide for beginners, as so many other seem to claim that and have no plain english steps or screenshots. I truly appreciate your post, cheers.
Tried that app, it cannot find any of the apps it tries to install/use? Maybe I need sleep.

You are talking about HSPL4, i would suggest you use HSPL3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6894936&postcount=2).
You know how to flash back to stock winmo? Hold the volume down button while turning on the phone to enter the boot loader, connect with USB and wait for confirmation on the screen below (serial changes to usb), and then flash the stock Rom.
I never used the toolkits, never needed them so i would propose the following steps for you, to start from scratch (so we can take it step by step together, i think we need to have the same base to be able to make a statement about your phone).
After flashing WinMo Stock Rom, install HSPL3 (the one in the linke above, HSPL3_PKG.exe).
Then use task29 to flash the 2.15.50.14 radio.
After that install MAGLDR113 and then, if i were you , i would install coredroid v1.6. (http://hotfile.com/dl/113345298/fb3f69b/HD2_Core_Droid_Desire_HD_V1.6_Release_Version.rar.html)
To do that, enter the magldr menu by keeping the power button pressed while turning on your phone, enter USB Flasher from the menu and after connection has been established, run the DAF.exe which will partition the NAND for you.
After that reboot into cwm, enter the usb mass storage option, copy the zip file on the sd card and from there install from zip.
This procedure has worked every single time for me, maybe it will for you, too?

Thanks for offering to walk me through this, you have saved my sanity.
OK I am back to stock WinMo Rom.
I have HSPL3 installed (not 4, 3 as you say).
"Then use task29 to flash the 2.15.50.14 radio"
You might have to explain this to my feeble mind. I thought task29 deleted all data? How would it upgrade the radio?
Thanks again

Task 29 can be used to flash the radio as well, so these two steps can be taken as one.
All you would have to do is copy the radio in the same directory as the rest (task29) and rename it to RUU_signed.nbh, so this procedure will install the new radio as well.
Take that one from here:

Thanks for that extra step explained...
I have read the thread, and downloaded the ZIP that was linked that has task 29 and the radio together. About to do it now.
OK that has completed, and it has rebooted, and now shows the white screen with HTC green logo, and stays there. This right?
I think it is.. as I have now flashed MAGLDR 1.13. Am now downloading the rom you suggested
UPDATE: I am done.. your suggested rom is installed and working!!
I am so relieved.
FYI here are the last steps I took.
* Used the Task 29 and radio update instructions from the link.
Once that was done it was a white screen with HTC logo - I then rebooted into HSPL bootloader on HTC device.
* Flashed magldr 1.13 - was very quick.
THESE NEXT STEPS ARE FROM THE QWORD DOC INCLUDED IN THE RAR FILE FROM THE SUGGESTE ROM - great stuff this doco.
1. After downloading HD2 CoreDroid DHD V*.*.rar, extract it to a folder on your PC of your choice.
2. Turn your unplugged HD2 on and boot into the MAGLDR 1.13 menu by holding down the power (right) button after initial vibration.
3. Using volume down move to number 5. USB Flasher
4. Push call button (left) and enter the USB flasher screen. You will see “USB Flasher mode Wait USB…”
5. Plug USB cable into the HD2, you should now see “USB Flasher mode Wait USB… USB
6. Go to the extracted HD2 CoreDroid DHD *.* folder on PC, and execute the DAF.exe. On newer windows buttons, right click and run as administrator.
7. Press next twice, and the installation will begin.
8. When finished press finish.
9. After the installation your HD2 will reboot into MAGLDR 1.13 menu.
10. Using the volume down button move to down to number 8. AD Recovery and press call button (left).
11. Your unplugged HD2 will now boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery menu.
12. IF YOU DID NOT BACKUP YOU SDCARD DATA DO IT BEFORE YOU PROCEED IT WILL BE FORMATED.
13. With volume down button advance to the advanced menu press left button.
14. Advance down to Partition SD Card menu.
15. Select minimum (512m) maximum (1024m). Your choice which one to use. Recommended is the 1024m, then press call button (left).
16. Select the 0m with the call button (left).
17. Wait until the process is finished.
18. Do not reboot! Stay in the ClockworkMod Recovery.
19. When finished “done” will appear in the lower half of the screen.
20. Press right button.
21. Using Volume down button move to “-mounts and storage”
22. Press end button (right).
23. Move down to mount USB storage
24. Press call button (left).
25. A new drive should be mounted to your PC.
26. Navigate to MyComputer and open the new drive (ex: F: E: G: etc…)
27. Go to the HD2_Core_Droid_Desire_HD_V1.12 folder
28. Copy the HD2_Core_DroidDesire_HD_V1.12.zip to the HD2 sd card root (the new mounted drive ex: F.
29. When finished copying and unmounts is selected, press the call button (left).
30. Press the back button
31. Move down to “-install zip from sdcard”, and press call button (left).
32. Move down to “-choose zip from sdcard”, and press call button (left).
33. Select the CoreDroid_V*.*.zip, press left button
34. Wait till it´s finish flashing, you will then see a flashing “CoreDroid”. Flash options will reappear.
35. Push end button (right).
36. Select “Reboot system now”
37. Let HD2 reboot giving it time. Wait at least +/- 10 minutes.
Once the phone has booted, let the syncs take place, wait for about 20 minutes, then reboot.
Totally worked for me. i thought I had bricked, I though no roms would hold.... this was done in an hour!

Cheech your help was awesome, it has been your posts that meant I have had a phone for the past week.
Now not wanting to sound ungrateful, but I have to report that ROM you suggested runs really bad on my HD2. Very laggy, even to unlock the screen will hang 2 time out of 3. Oh well, I am starting to learn the same rom on the same hardware can act very differently.. sad face.
If I had to state the function I HAVE to have in my ROM it would be obviously good phone and text ability, music player with resume and bluetooth, a browser, email client, and something to play videos.
Is there a very lightweight ROM that will give me the above functions but maybe run a little better on my HTC HD2 (and are as easy to install as the one I have already tried)? Thanks heaps for any tips.
I jumped in, and using your great direction from before have a new rom on my HD2...
NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V2.8_NAND_(Android-2.3.4)_update
Wow, so much faster and snappier. Love the way Google resynced my apps and some settings!!
Gonna play with this for another few days.
EDIT: seems there is always something.. this ROM not finding my Wireless network. Finds all the ones around me but just wont find mine - even with apps to manage it. My kingdom for a lean ROM for my HD2!!!
Edit 2: Turns out Android 2.3 sets the WiFi channels to end at 11.
Our wireless was higher than that.
Advanced settings and increasing the WIFI channels to the full 14, saw my network straight away.
Took quite a bit of Googling to figure that one out.
Please delete.

MY PROBLEM IS:I can't get the HD2 into the bootloader and/or get my PC to recognize the phone via WMDC.
Its just so unresponsive, All its doing is Vibrating constantly/Vibrating patterns/black illuminated screens/ & very rarely, the "Loading please wait" screen with the green android and some other figure I forgot in the bottom right corner. Then on the top it gets stuck on the "aMAGLDR v1.11" and other descriptive words/numbers below it, on the top center.

Hi, I'm new to XDA-developers forum, and I have 2 non-working HD2's that have been sitting around for quite some time now.
I've recently tried to get it fixed and get into this type of phone modding, as I can see HD2's are very popular for tweaking software's and such.
I have been searching around the web, more so the XDA forums, for answers to my "Special case" (yes I've seen the video when you first sign up for an account on XDA, quite funny ) of a conundrum...
Anyway, 1 HD2 is fully dysfunctional and shows no sign of life (No vibration/lights) but the lower portion of the back does get warm when I try and charge it. I have no hope for this HD2 and I think its only good for spare parts for someone else.
The other HD2 is "somewhat" functional. Sometimes if I get lucky it vibrates continuously or repetitively.
What I know about the half functioning phone:
Let my friend have it, he did some flashing of the ROM, it stopped working after awhile, and then he gave it back to me because he got another phone.
Sometimes after turning it on, it gets suck on the "aMAGLDR v1.11" screen.
I've searched up "MAGLDR" and know that its some kind of custom bootloader or so.
I've searched up how to update it to "MADLDR v1.13" and update the radio and/or use the "RUU-LEO" file.
I have all those files&programs downloaded and ready to go.
Thank you for reading my thread
It would be AWESOME if someone could help me, or even inform me of what has happened with it. If you need further answers about my two HD2's please ask me the questions, I would love to try and answer them!

Those repetitive vibrations on starting are not a good sign(usually it means a non/working CPU/motherboard)!
You should flash a stock ROM and see what happens, but I suspect it won't boot up and you'll get again those vibrations: it worth try it and let me know!
Good luck!
Are you able to get to the tricolored screen by holding the power button and the volume down button? If you can get there, you may be able to task29 it and flash it with a new radio. My guess is someone flashed it with the wrong radio. Once it has the correct radio, if there is no hardware damage, it should work again.
I broke my digitizer . I'll be interested in buying the completely dysfunctional one from ya . Send me a pm if you're interested .

Yes, after I posted this thread, I was able to get into the tricolored screen. After that I tried to update the MAGLDR to V1.13, the screen got into the HTC loading screen with a progress bar stuck at 0% then on the computer it says there has been a communication error.
So my problem now is communication from my HD2 to PC, Which is weird because on the tricolored screen, the text switched to USB and I thought I figured it out, but no...communication error.
I am willing to do Task29 but I'm not aware of the risks or precedures.
Ok first off go to here and download the HD2 NAND Toolkit then install it o. Your computer. Next open the toolkit and then connect your HD2 to your computer via USB. Then use the toolkit to run the Task 29. Be warned though the Task 29 will totally delete the ROM partition of the NAND memory in your HD2 so you will not have a ROM on the device then so it will not boot to anything but the bootloader. Next use the Toolkit to flash either a Window's Mobile ROM, MAGLDR, or clk, you can also use it to flash Clockwork Mod Recovery.

I got a communication error again, I have tried to do task29 twice.
Here are some screenshots...
HD2
So my problem is still with the communication errors I keep getting if I try to do anything.
Is there anything I can do with the Micro SD card?

You can run a Task 29 via SD card. You need to go to here and download the Repack by ShaDrac. Then right click the file and unzip it. Then find the .nbh file and rename it to LEOIMG.nbh and place it on the root of your SD card. Then boot into the bootloader and follow the on screen instructions.

The only thing I need to put on the SC card is the LEOIMG.nbh right

Yeah that is it, just copy the .nbh file and rename it to LEOIMG.nbh. Then copy it to the root of your SD card.
Edit: Once the Task 29 is done your HD2 will only boot to the first splash screen and you will be able to boot into the bootloader also. This is because the Task 29 removed the ROM from your HD2 and you will have to re-flash clk or MAGLDR then a recovery and then a Android ROM. Or you can always flash as Windows Mobile ROM.

Alright, I got into boot loader mode, then it goes onto a completely white screen with "Loading..." on the top.
After 5 minutes or so, the screen turns off with no instructions to follow after "Loading...".
I pressed the power button to see if it still works and goes into the old MAGLDR v1.11 screen with no menus/options.
Am I suppose to keep holding the Vol down button or something, I think im doing it wrong
Edit: I charged the phone before trying it again for a few hours and I think it was on the white "Loading..." screen for the whole charge.
I don't know whats wrong with it :d

First off sorry for the lag in response but I went to sleep not long after I posted my last response last night. If you never saw a box appear on the HD2 screen that asks you if you wanted to install the update and to press the power button to do so, then you did not run the Task 29. I am pretty sure you didn't anyway because you said you could still boot into MAGLDR 1.11 and if you had run the Task 29 then MAGLDR would no longer be on your HD2.
When you boot into the bootloader by holding the volume down button down and powering on the HD2 continue to hold the volume button down until you see searching. When you see searching you can release the volume down button and then you should see the window pop up that ask if you want to install the update and if so to press the power button to continue. Press the power button and the Task 29 will run, you should see a progress bar on the screen of the HD2.
Once the progress bar is done the HD2 should restart, but it will not have a ROM to boot so just pull the battery to turn it back off. Next, if you want to use Android, you need to install MAGLDR 1.13 or clk. You can install either one of these via SD card, just like the Task 29 you will have to copy the .nbh file for the custom bootloader you want to use to the root of your SD card and rename it LEOIMG.nbh. Make sure to remove the LEOIMG.nbh file that you used for the Task 29. Personally I prefer clk cause it makes the HD2 run like a native Android device, but you are having a communication error so this may lead to problems if you use clk as you have to flash Clockwork Mod Recovery via USB when you use clk. You know I would suggest you try a different USB cable as you might just have as faulty USB cable and that is what is causing the communication error. I would highly suggest you do this before trying to do anything at all more with the SD card. If you try another cable and it does not work then your HD2 more than likely has a faulty mini USB port.
If you try another cable and it works you can just use the toolkit to run the Task 29 and then use it to install either MAGLDR 1.13 or clk and then Clockwork Mod Recovery.

Whoa, after I read your post, I went and found another cable, attached it to the PC and turned on my HD2, it goes to the MAGLDR v1.11, but it has the options where I can use the volume buttons to choose things which I have never seen on this phone before lol.
What do you suggest I do since the options came up.
Wipe it and do MAGLDR v1.13
Or do one of the options on the screen
Okay well I've tried to task29 w/ the new cable, and it still does a communication error so there might be a problem with the mini USB port.
I tried to do task29 again via sd card, and this time I held down the volume down button for like 5 minutes until my fingers slipped, but there was no "searching" screen, just a "Loading..." screen and then it turns off after 10 mins.
I'm trying to get into that MAGLDR screen again with the options but I don't know how to, it was just too random.
I kind of wonder if a wrong radio was flashed to the phone and it got semi-bricked. I bought a phone once that was like that and tried to repair it and was unable to. I think there are people out there that can jtag it.
Maybe dude, right now im just waiting until someone knows exactly whats wrong with my phone and if they can fix it :d
i did do something to the radio, but i made sure it was the correct version according to their list of radios and the radio listed on my phone.
Anyway, im pretty much stuck. cant wipe via USB cable, of 3 different kinds.
and i cant wipe via sd card either.
will go back a few years and try and find old posts on old Kaiser thread, this starts to sound familiar with white screen and comms fail,if I remember properly it was/is problem with spl/hspl.
can you post what info does show on any boot screen.
am busy at moment will try searching later tonight.

One time I was able to flash something onto the phone and it was the "Radio_Leo_2.15.50.14" thing...
I don't remember why I did this but I did made sure it was compatible and it worked.
So it may have been the radio, I am not sure.
I do have pics of the boot loader screen before and after the flash.
If there are no solutions, I might as well sell them both. Which I'm about to do real soon
