The best XDAndroid launcher!!!(tested on blackstone FRX07 build) - Touch HD General

Hey guys, just found this great launcher:
ZEAM
This is quite fast on my touch HD FRX07 rom.
It's a great option, dev's could even put it on the install!
It's really smooth and fast!
Download it from the market!
(If you guys want a video, I can do it, but I think there's a lot of them on youtube)
EDIT 1:
Guess what, just found a even faster one. Also try launcherPRO!
EDIT 2:
Unfortunally, LauncherPRO unexpectadilly stopped working after one day like many apps, that stop working for no reason... So I'm testing ZEAM for a week and if it doesn't work, I'll warn you.

[Q] Any visible improvements on CM6 as compared to CM5.0.8?

Hi,
I have recently rooted my Magic 32A and installed CM5.0.8, which I'm happy with after stock Android 1.5 but I was wondering...
Is CM6 RC3 going to improve the performance of some of the apps because of the Java acceleration? Is it stable enough to try?
Anybody can suggest a better keyboard that I could use...default Android one is not that great.
Thanks!
Smart Keyboard is freaking awesome, but it's not free. It's $2.53 in the market.
As for CM6. I've tried all three RC's plus a random few nightlies, and it's always been slower than 5.0.8. Seems to lag anytime I'm switching betweens programs, flicking through the home screens, etc. Doesn't seem to be too bad while actually running applications, just a pain in the butt to get them going.
With that being said, don't take my word for it. The easiest way to find out is to make a Nandroid backup, flash CM6, and if you don't like it, just restore your Nandroid backup.
Thanks DonJuan692006! I really value the opinion of people who have tried it before me.
I was thinking CM6 should be faster...but maybe it's not because it's still RC.
As for the keyboard I would buy the one you suggested (actually never bought anything on Android yet so I'm curious of the process), but my question is...is that better than Swype? What are the advantages of Smart Keyboard? I think I found some other ones to buy too...
Smart keyboard for me is just a millions times more responsive than the Android keyboard. It also compensates for people who's fingers are bigger than the keys better. I know there are other keyboards available but I bought it based off the reviews.
Swype was really accurate when I was using it, but I found that right after I would clean the screen it was really too hard to drag my finger across the screen and even got to the point that my thumb would start to hurt. I quit using it all together once that started happening. But its all a matter of opinion. The good thing is that everything you buy in the market can be refunded within 24 hours, so just grab it first thing in the morning and use it through the day. If you don't like it, get a refund. I've done it for several apps in the past.

i think the problem lies within the launcher. No matter what kind of launcher you use, it still not fast like the stock launcher from 1.6 donut. Thats the real problem. Why do we have to look the same to Nexus One? Can anyone here create a simpliest rom with almost no addition-ware (i.e. launcher and gallery 3d), see if it improve performance and battery? lets make a petition shall we
I have installed CM6 it is runnung a bit faster, but as it was said those few bugs with luncher are not really problems for me,it is great. But ofc there is a battery comsuption problem it is leeching your battery

WooHoo - Thank you XDA-Claus

Installed 3.14 ROM
Installed Froyo
2 phones in one goodness
Installed a couple of Android Apps then time to set my WinMo back up with CHT and eye-candy goodness
I've been holding off upgrading to the new ROM cos I'm happy
with how I have it set up right now, sounds like you are a
happy bunny though...
Once you've started using Android more, you'll realise that "CHT Eyecandy" pretty much becomes meaningless
Wife has a Desire so I know what Android is all about.
Admittedly cht brought many of the Android tricks to the party but maybe I need to try another ROM as I have been a little underwhelmed by the Desire Sense appearance on the HD2 (doesn't seem to take advantage of the screen real-estate so much)
Might try the Desire HD ROM...

I use MDJ's Desire HD ROM, tis pretty good.
If you're after something speedier, try one of the many RAM based ROMs out there, they're pretty slick!
As for eye candy, there's a **** load more options for Android.. almost too much choice! I still haven't decided on what widgets to settle on yet lol
From what I have read the Froyo Sense Revo 1.7 is very stable so was my choice for thr first foray into Android and to be fair it worked straight out of the box and I d/l apps etc.
My only real complaint is the clock is huge [takes up 1/3 of homescreen] and the widgets take up way too much room so that [for example] I can't put the caledar widget and the marketplace together on the home screen; the calendar only shows one appt as well (I will learn to fix this to show more no doubt esp once you nice people helps a brother out!)
As you say I have seen the blackstone super-fast ones as well. For the time being I can live with the boot speed [may well use another bootloader rather than JMZ v4] since it all works but I may experiement in future - exceller or the mkskip loader support multiple roms I think so that might help.
I was just mighty chuffed that my rom upgrade and the android install were so slick.
I am also enjoying the apparent better reception with this rom

MIUI rom - why?

I've just checked out a couple of vids on Youtube of the MIUI rom on the Mytouch 4G. It has some nice looking animations, but I don't otherwise get why an Android user would want this rom. It looks like an iPhone - the system takes a big steaming dump of apps all over your home screens, and no launcher. It seems like a step backwards to me.
Can someone who uses this rom please convince me otherwise? What does it have that I can't get elsewhere?
I used to think the same, but when I gave it a bash it was VERY smooth! And with Launcher Pro on it, near perfect.
But there are so many more settings you can fiddle with on CM, I always go back to the best.
Flashed a CM7 nightly this morning,.... AMAAAAZING!
So you CAN install a launcher on it? I got the impression that you couldn't. Hmmm, I might give it a try when I have some time. What's battery life like - one video (admittedly for the MT4G) said it was pretty crap. That same video also said that RAM usage was considerably lower than Sense, which interests me.
Yeah man, standard MIUI launcher is junk IMO, no app drawer? Huh? Definitely get your launcher of choice on there straight away.
From what I remember (since November ish) battery life was ok, RAM was vgood. Yeah give it a bash,... the guy who has done the port has updated quite a few times since I tried it.
I love the standard launcher after 2 years of seeing either stock android launcher or ones similar to it , it is a nice change of pace
I didn't like miui at first but it grew on me. I was constantly trying to find the app launcher it runs fast and you can customize the heck out of it!
Sent from my Pear phone.
I was really impressed with it, actually. Very lightweight on the system.
If you don't like the lack of drawer (I hate it...thinking a hybrid with an app drawer would be perfection) you can get stuff tucked away in folders, or use launcher pro.
It just looks and feels so fresh and clean...but it's just not what I personally love about Android. A great option that's totally different.
It's also a great UI for iphone converters...

Thats exactly it, MIUI is just like an I phone without restrictions! You can add, take away and do anything You want with it maintaining its beauty and speed! Ive tryed every rom, after playing w/ rom's UI for a few minutes I went bak to MIUI. Theres nothing like it try MIUI and you'll never go bak.

I'm inclined to agree with you. I gave it a try, but those iPhone-esque menus had me running for the hills - it just seemed wrong!
In the last couple of days I've been through the stock Sense rom (too heavy on the hardware), MIUI (just no), Enomther's Official (battery life poor) and CM 6.1.1 (battery life poor). I'm currently draining the battery so I can charge properly and wipe batt stats on CM - hopefully that will help. But if not then I'm going to have to roll back to the stock rom, which is a real shame because all the others run so quick even at 800mhz...

i have been running CyanM since went to Android with tthe N1 and I can say its making me think! I like the polish. The initial setup was a little slower because of the lack of app draw and having to tuck things away. After that I can say I am really digging the Rom
I really like the notification put-down with the toggles at the bottom. Looks so good and super functional.
Edit: but I use virtuous as my daily.

I've finally settled on a ROM - Sparksmod Extra HotSauce. Basically CMod with loads of pretty icons and animations. I love it so much, it's satisfied both the need for speed/lightweight on RAM, and having the eye candy to show off.
Install a decent laucher like ADW EX or LauncherPro (which now has transition animations too), and it blows anything else away. I can't recommend it highly enough. My iPhone-toting friends are jealous as well.
At first I didn't like it... Then it grew on me.... Then I didn't like it again (had too many apps on homescreen)... Now I like it again..... I like just installed Touchwiz launcher (I know.. Wut? ) and love it again IMO Touchwiz launcher is like MIUI's with an app drawer xD (I prefer though )
my question is : why not
the easy theme-ing + change icons / pull down widget = win
if u dont like the iphone-ish look, put ADW EX on top of it
i do like how i can organize stuff with the folders
that + the ease of uninstalling apps when i dont like them,
it sucks having to wait to go through setting and wait 30 secs to generate the whole list.
oh the smoothness too
Seriously... why not?? I use miui for a few reasons..
1. Bad ass lock screen.. by far the best. IMHO (Music control, custom wallpaper, quick launch phone and messaging app) yeah you COULD just use widget locker.. but that slows phone down and drains battery life.. not as sick as default miui I think.
2. Themes.. the themes available look amazing, completely customize all your icons, better than you can get with adw, lp or any made for cyanogenmod.. and you can mix and match what themes parts you want applied.
3. Notification bar.. toggles on the pulldown are great.. ya you can do basically the same with cyanogenmod, but not as polished IMO..
4. battery life isn't an issue for me.. or ram.. basically the same as cyanogen 6.1.1... haven't tried cm7. So no input there.
5. Updated every Friday. which is nice..
Yeah its iphone-ish since all the icons are uniformed.. and menus, I don't spend all my time changing settings so menus don't bother me.. easier to navigate then stock android IMO but with icons I actually like that about it.. I use adw launcher ex. So I have a launcher.. I don't use the stock launcher with miui. Personally I don't care for it.. i hate apps on my homescreen... IMO they belong in the launcher.. widgets belong on the homescreen. But that's just me.. to each there own. I switch between cyanogen mod 6.1.1 and miui... I just nand backup each so I can switch between both whenever I feel the need. there both esentially set up the exact same. Same apps and launchers.. I'm been on cyanogen mod since I had a mytouch 18 months ago till miui was ported.. it mixes things up, I don't think it takes away from android.. it gives you the best of both worlds in my opinion..
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I have to say, that Im loving the Miui. Sure, it comes with no app drawer and it looks too close to an iphone, but one thing I give credit to apple, is the glossy and high resolution look to their icons and layouts.
I use Launcher pro and it makes me a happy Android fan. I get to load new themes with the least amount of effort whatsoever. Its amazing how quickly you can change the look of your phone.
The lockscreen is the best ive seen. I dont experience lags for a rom that is quite stylish and has so many features. The customization on this rom is out of this world. There's a setting for anything Ive wanted to change (minus changing the color of the notification bar).
So, to summerize: It runs fast, it looks really good with easy theme changing ability and it lets you customize the heck out of it.
The battery life is decent. I havent noticed a major difference between any of the roms ive tried when it comes to that. Btw, I have been on CM 6.1.1 and supervillianz and the default sense. This is the only rom that made me NOT change and try other roms. Im quite happy with what I have. Why look elsewhere

[Q] Difference between HyperDroid-CM7-v1.0.1 and HyperDroid-GBX-v8

Hope my question isnt too noobish...
I currently have Hyperdroid GBX working on my hd2.... been using it for a few days..... I'm confused whats the difference between this and the cm7 version..
If anyone can reply with some insight... thank you very much for your help....
and thank you pongster for your great work and contributions to android and hd2 community...
i would like to know this too. been running the gbx version since 7 and now on version 8 and very happy with it.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
From my quick experience with both, GBXv8 is smoother but HDCM7 is more customizable. I would love to use the HDCM7 but I need my ROM to be SMOOTH and GBXv8 is as smooth as my Nexus One with CM.
I've generally had a good experience with gbx8
another question i have is that in gbx8 there is only adw?? There is no way to use just the normal program launcher??? Thanks again!!!

You might be able to extract the default launcher apk (app) from any stock ROM and install it on gbx8. The stock gingerbread launcher is also in the market i believe (search gingerbread launcher). I use launcherpro (smoothest launcher IMO).
I think the only difference is that the CM7 one is Cyanogen Mod. It has more features and settings etc. and they're usually smoother ROM's.
Can't you just download LauncherPro and use HomeSmack to change your default launcher?
thanks for everyones help...
i took the plunge and installed the cm7 version.. tried it for a little bit...
dont think its for me..
Actually it almost seemed like it was the same as the gbx.... but just with a few more programs and settings I dont believe i'd use....
i will go back to the gbx version....... cheers....
Is wifi Tethering working on gbx8?
The only difference is cm7, which offers more customization, and themes! Ive run both battery life is a hair, and I mean a hair better in gbx, but it alos depends how u use the phone. I find the speed to be the same. Gbx is great if u just want a phone, cm7 is great if your one of those people that go through every setting menu, every different comfiguration just see what it does.

Another difference that seems important is that the CM7 version gives you all the awesome Cyanogenmod settings, one of the best of which is that option to change the lock screen times. This is something I really miss after trying out the GBX version because now every time the screen turns off, or I shut it off, I have to unlock the phone when I turn it on again. I miss the CM7 setting where I could say not to lock the phone for 5, 10, 15, 30 minutes.
Also, I do feel that Launcher Pro is smoother (i.e. faster frame rate for very smooth scrolling) than adw.launcher, but adw is free and doesn't ask you to upgrade to a paid version when you try to do some things (like resize widgets).
All in all, I think I preferred the CM7, but I had to rebuild the phone when it started acting up. I'll stick with GBX for a while and just keep unlocking the phone every time I get a message Unless someone knows something I can do!
you could use GoSMS and just let it turn the screen on for you when u receive a message lol, lazy mans option....and i love it

Non-Sense User, Please give me your feedback

Hi all Desire HD Owners
We all know that Non-Sense ROMs are more lighter and have a great performance due to a lot of free RAM ,,,
So if i want to use CyanogenMod as example what is the best apps I should use as a replacement to sense widgets like clock and weather widgets and also what other apps u recommend to use while not using a sense ROM specially launchers ?
Thanks a lot and waiting your help
The Fancy Widgets clock is pretty good. There are a few calendar widgets on the market too which are good. If you haven't tried MIUI rom - I recommend that for lots of nice differences.
If you are looking for launchers you might try my page here to get a few ideas.
I like SimiClock widget a lot.. it's a very minimalistic clock widget.
It's beautiful on a dark theme.
I tried miui but it's looks like iPhone a lot and I don't like that at it..but it's an amazing ROM...
Also there is no topic in DHD Forums to show users HS like the one in Wildfire forums which is great and presented a lot of nice ideas ....
I used Cyanogenmod for a while...as for launcher I hate the default ADW because it's the ugliest piece of software on the planet so I found a mod that replaces ADW with the default gingerbread launcher which is very very sexy, especially the app drawer.
Just google the terms "stock gingerbread launcher on cyanogenmod 7" and lots of links will come up
I have a desire (similiar to dhd) I went to cm7. But came straight back as I couldn't live without the sense functionalities!
Sure AOSP roms ate faster, but I rather have more features than better performance

now on blackice cm 7.1!
for clock and calendar I'm using simiclock (includes meteo, battery% and other stuff) and simple calendar widget, i like that style! I've replaced the music app with the one from IceCream sandwich.
if you like the dolby and srs in blackice there's icetool to enable them.
I think you can give a try to that rom!
Sorry for bad english!

My personal opinion.
I used to love sense and really liked the widgets. So I have been running it for over 2 years.
I decided to make the step to MIUI and now I cannot get back.
MIUI is so fast and you can set everything the way you want.
I especially like the folders that you can drop your programs in. So I have a folder with GPS things, different tools folder, camera stuff folder etc etc.
The fact that you can also make a backup in MIUI which saves everything, yes also location of icons and folders makes this one perfect for me.
For the clock and weather I use the fancy widgets and for email I use K9 which you can configure the way you want.
I admit it took a couple of weeks to get used to. Sometimes I flash a sense rom just to try it but I've always came back after max 3 days.
Thanks all for this great feedback and waiting more from you cuz i will try MIUI or CM7.1 for a while and want to find a replacement for most of apps and widgets i use , also when CM will came with ICS so we all will be able to try it and use ICS at our devices and abandon Sense ROM
Thanks again all

You mean like this one?
I use Launcher Pro (its the smoothest and most stable imo) with the 3D clock & weather widget - it looks nice and is free.
If you search on the android market, you can find quite a few free apps better than stock 2.1 HTC Sense (excluding camcorder). There's just no true 3d widgets like the ones in sense3.0, or a lockscreen that works as well (miui lockscreens are somewhat laggy and don't have proper music/weather/etc. Agile lock takes around 3 seconds to appear after opening the screen)
Try Android Pro Widgets, they look quite similar to some of the sense ones

Thanks for the tip. Following this thread.

LOL ! Now i have to read all the 148 Pages
Regarding MIUI, you know that you can use another launcher right? The "iPhone-ish" part of MIUI is the launcher, and if you don't like that you are free to install whatever launcher you want. I'm currently using MIUI + LauncherPro and it's flying.
I use ADW, there are loads of free themes about so not liking the look is a bit of a lame excuse, but you can use any of the other launchers, I also like functionality over looks which is why I'm currently using BlackIce in my opinion AOSP wins over any other ROM any day, tried MIUI but if i wanted my phone to look like an iPhone i'd have bought one
I recommend touchpal dialer or go contacts to replace the awesome sense dialer
sent with love from me to you
I wont go with what's best for widget, as I find the less widgets the better.. but my apps are mainly;
Root Explorer
OC/UV Beater 2
CacheMate
Clockr Evolution isn't that bad
4EXT recovery updater
andrev oc installer (MIUIAndroid doesn't have it preinstalled)
SystemApp Remover
Current Widget
They're my tools apps that I have flashed into my ROM from clean recovery.. I'm not a fan of widgets, and bloat so I keep default apps to a bare minimum.. hence systemapp remover.. if I can remember correctly before I flash my apps.. I have between 55-65 apps/services on my phone.. whereas a clean install of a sense rom can come between 170-180 lol
TRY GO Lancher EX . and search for those awesome Free theme
u will love it . and it is fast and smooth ,
and get a beatiful clock widget .
trust me , u will fall love on it .
however personal opinion
i try many launcher .
here my fav
1.Go Launcher EX
2.Retina 3D Launcher
3. Launcher PRO
that all
i used to be ADW but they are not improve like other did .
just more theme but without any new features added compare to other.
however there is a huge pretty and nice ADW theme .
HTC DESIDE HD : 3 ROM install and switch between them when i get bored .
Rom 1 : RCmix3D runny sense 3.5 version 2.2
Rom 2 : MIUI FREEEze Edition 1.10
Rom 3 : BLACK ICE V 1.0 ( this Rom is dam super fast & smooth, high score in benchmark )
3 Rom install and switch anytime with sync my call log , contact , sms , apn list ( using my trick)
I am also on BlackIce CM7.1 with Lord Clockan's excellent kernel(s). I will never go back to Sense. Ever.
I use Android Pro Widgets, Beautiful Widgets, Minimalist Text, Moogly, and System Info Widget.
For look and feel, I use CM themes, ADW themed icons, and Alt Drawer. Between all these, the ability for customisation is enormous.
