U8800 USB Problem - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Hey everyone,
I have a problem when I connect my U8800 to my PC, whenever I do and I expect my SD to show up, it tells me that the SD card couldn't be read and that it should be ejected. I think it might be due to a faulty Mini-USB cable since it always has trouble charging the device (I need to put the device on the USB cable to put some pressure on it, otherwise it won't charge.) Is this just the cable's fault or is something else happening? I tried using the cable on another device and it seems fine. Nothing happened with the U8800, everything is in good state. Note: When at the Pink Screen and having connected the device, it shows up just fine on any PC.
Thanks!

Yesterday my Phone became an unrecognized USB device

After months of no problems yesterday I plugged my phone in for its nightly charge and noticed that it did not trigger the usual USB mount prompt.
I assumed it was Windows, but I have a bunch of machines and operating systems so I checked and they all has the same result. I switched out cords and did a complete power reset (taking battery out) no change.. The Phone charges through the USB but the computers say "unrecognized usb device" and cannot mount the phone as a drive and the phone does not offer the option as it used to???
I don't recall getting any sort of update that might have related to this?
This is the original T-mobile version
This happens to me all the time. However a restart of my phone and computer solves the issue.

Neither of those things worked for me. There's gotta be something else to it.

This all started when I manually installed 2.3.4. Everything else works fine. I'm not the only one with this problem.

How do you do that without USB connectivity?
It is very frustrating, maybe a hardware fail? I see just enough post relating to the issue that makes me know it is real but not sure how to resolve,, Do we have to go to Best Buy? or is there a direct Samsung route?
This too happens to me. Whenever I plug it into my laptop on the top USB slot, it doesn't recognize it. If I plug it in on the bottom USB slot, it does. Not sure why. This, however, is only the case if I'm using a different USB cable than the one that came with the phone itself. Once again, not sure why.
Perhaps you are using an alternative USB? Or plugging in on the top? Not sure how I can help you more than that, sorry. Hope you find a fix!

Using official OEM cable that came with the phone. And, again, USB worked fine until I manually installed 2.3.4.
Well It is off to Samsung for repair
After time on phone with them and a factory reset belief is that the usb connector is defective. BTW Best Buy just hands off to Samsung 1-800 #
So Back to a barely functional G-1 for a while, glad I could find it!

Recently started happening to me, needed to transfer some files off, had to resort to dropbox etc.. rebooted phone+computer ,still not working.
Came good a few days later using same equipment, same cable,
Mysteriously fixed itself ?

Nexus S USB connection issue.

Last week when I plugged my USB cable into my phone, it acted normal. The screen where it asks me if I want to connect USB came up, and I said yes. Everything was normal. It was baller.
Today, that doesn't happen. The screen doesn't come up and all the USB cable does is charge my phone, much like the wall plug does.
I've tried to install USB drivers, but they always require me to find "Android" in Device Manager, and it's never in there. The USB cable is doing nothing but charging my phone.
I managed to add a few mp3s over wifi, just to make sure that was actually working.
The phone is not rooted, (I was actually just going to try to do that) and everything is stock aside from a few apps.
I would really like some insight on this, please.
Do I need to get the phone replaced? Am I doing something wrong?
OK, I new to this, but thought I'd comment. If USB debugging is turned on, my seems to do that.

I've done nothing to the phone. Only installed a few random apps.
sorry to hi-jack your thread!
mine does exactly the same, but all i've done is manually update to 2.3.4 and my usb hasn't worked since, like you i've tried installing the drivers and that's done nothing and its also in usb debugging.
i don't know what to do or how to get it to work again, all my searching on here and via Google don't bring up much

Try another usb cord, and especially if you're using the samsung cord.
I had the same issue but when I switched to my Htc cord and my blacbkberry cord, everything worked as it should.

Wow, you're right. My HTC cord worked. Thanks a lot.
I have had this happen on to me and have determined that a) the long cable that came with the NS4G is unreliable when used for USB connectivity with my PC. Shorter cables (even the shorter Samsung cable that came with my Epic) work consistently. I am guessing that this is a USB Bus power issue and some people will have better mileage than others using the stock cable, depending on their PC.
b) on a few occasions, it seems I've somehow borked the PC's USB controller and the PC wouldn't recongnize anything until I rebooted it.

I am getting the
USB control init
USB control init end
when in bootloader and when doing the i press vol up and vol down (triangle with android in it" with downloading below).
I would like to flash my phone to factory using Samsung Simple downloader for NS4G.
Background, installed Ice Cream but didn't have radio.img so used an SU to downgrade back to 2.3, did that but no mobile network. Then the phone updated to 2.3.6 and now getting that error. Any help will be appreciated.
I searched a few times on this forum and on google.com no luck. tried to adding a recovery file manually and zip it as update.zip and install from bootloader no luck. (use file explorer and dropbox to get files on to phone).
Thanks

Was your phone rooted at any point before the issue? Not sure if they would fix it under warranty for me. I will call Samsung and see.
Thanks, I tried that but no luck. Still need to tried other cords. Also.
My phone developed this problem a couple days ago. I haven't done much to troubleshoot it...figured the port must be damaged.
(Not using the Samsung cable, btw)

It might be the port. I will have to get a samsung cable and try it, but i doubt it will help. Plus i can tell Samsung I tried everything. (I looked a ticket, but they said get a samsung cord, they don't trust the Palm Pre cord i am using).
I had to downgrade to the HTC Hero until i get the phone fixed.

[Q] Battery charging problem

My phone have problem with charging.
No matter if it runs on Android or WP7 it just won't charge or connect/sync to PC. Like it can't see USB cable.
But in bootloader it detects USB connection, and in magldr too. I can normally flash OSes.
The only way I can charge batery is flashing old magldr 1.10 and charge it when HD2 is turned off. But it is no solution because installing fresh os after every charging is pointless...
I can't check if it charges in WM because whenever I try to install any WM it hangs on first boot (on white HTS screen with OS version written in red on the bottom).
I've tried Task29 before installing and it doesn't help.
What can be wrong?
what can be wrong is that you are suffering early stages of hd2's very well known usb port problem, yours will probably fail totaly soon.is old problem that an only be corrected with hardware repair.

But if it is hardware issue, shouldn't all functions of USB port functions stop working at once?
My friend had same prob. He had to change the port. Becouse it was very damaged, you can not see demage by your eye, you have to took it to repairman.
Sorry for bad English
Exactly the sameproblem? He had working communication in bootloader and all fuction of USB port lost when system is booted?
consider this

you make a good point, that seems logical. Maybe, as stated above this is the beginning of a bad usb port. I've seen with other devices and the hd2, the usb cable has to be at a certain angle for it to work, not that moving the usb cable around while plugged in is recommended, you have to be very careful and delicate. But you can try that. OR not that I know very much about this, but, maybe its an OS driver issue? it happened to my sd card reader on my windows 7 laptop, just a thought, trying to give you some ideas, sorry i cant be much help in this, good luck!
had this problem on my hd2 euro too.. you need to replace usb prot or buy new mainboard. i got an cheap tmous hd2 so i was lucky^^
It also seems to me a bad USB port...
Replacing it it's the only reliable solution, anything else will be time wasting.

[Q] Touchscreen goes mad when usb connected

So, yeah, just like what the title says. My NC's touchscreen goes mad when I connect it to my PC (Haven't tried on laptops cuz I don't have one). Well, it doesn't happen to all of my PC's (I've got 3), only the one with 64-bit Win7. And I've tried changing the cable with LG's (forgot the device but whatever) but it's still the same. I've searched on google and most people asked for a replace to fix it (My NC's warranty is over). Is there any other way to fix it? This problem is not a big deal to me (since it didn't occur with my other PC) but it's pretty annoying.
Thanks
EDIT : I'm using CM7 dual boot with PA both in emmc, if this helps

Mine does that when connected to my charger block. Don't know if there is a repair. I think it is a ground loop. You might try the Nook Screen Recalibrate app from the Play Store. That should not help, but may.
Edit: You can also use a standard micro USB cable and see if that helps. Standard micro USB cables can be used for computer connections but do not work well for charging.

[Q] Nexus 7 wont connect to a PC or charge while on anymore

I've starting having an issue with my Nexus 7 where it wont charge anymore when it's running, even with the supplied USB charger and cable. If I turn it off it charges fine.
It's got CW recovery and it's rooted, so I thought that it may have developed a software issue and I would just wipe it with the stock rom and recovery and see how it goes.
However I selected debug and plugged it into the PC and the PC doesn't see the device and the device itself doesn't even detect its connected and show the notification. I've also tried on a macbook with no joy.
Using rom manager and CWM I have wiped the device and installed a different ROM (CM 10.1) and still no luck. Also, if it helps, the OTG cable with stick mont works fine.
Any ideas and thanks in advance.
Try a new usb cable...
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I have tried a few cables now, and it's still that same.
Try a completely different computer other than the 2 you have issues with. You can also try wiping your driver's out and reinstalling them. If all else fails, pup the back off and check the solder joints and the flex cable of the USB.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I've just tried it on a different machine running Ubuntu this time and still nothing.
I'm going to guess that because of the unlocked boot and CWM recovery the warranty wouldn't be covered? If that's the case, how hard is it to pop open the back?
Thanks
No warranty till it is completely stock and locked. It's not hard at all. There are many tutorials you can find.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Thanks graydiggy. I'll see what tutorials I can dig up...
One thing that's strange is that it does charge when off, so you would assume the power joints are ok, and the OTG cable works so you would assume the data joints are fine.
Opened it up, everything seems fine, nice and tight inside.
