[Q] Battery charging problem - HD2 General

My phone have problem with charging.
No matter if it runs on Android or WP7 it just won't charge or connect/sync to PC. Like it can't see USB cable.
But in bootloader it detects USB connection, and in magldr too. I can normally flash OSes.
The only way I can charge batery is flashing old magldr 1.10 and charge it when HD2 is turned off. But it is no solution because installing fresh os after every charging is pointless...
I can't check if it charges in WM because whenever I try to install any WM it hangs on first boot (on white HTS screen with OS version written in red on the bottom).
I've tried Task29 before installing and it doesn't help.
What can be wrong?

what can be wrong is that you are suffering early stages of hd2's very well known usb port problem, yours will probably fail totaly soon.is old problem that an only be corrected with hardware repair.

But if it is hardware issue, shouldn't all functions of USB port functions stop working at once?

My friend had same prob. He had to change the port. Becouse it was very damaged, you can not see demage by your eye, you have to took it to repairman.
Sorry for bad English

Exactly the sameproblem? He had working communication in bootloader and all fuction of USB port lost when system is booted?

consider this

you make a good point, that seems logical. Maybe, as stated above this is the beginning of a bad usb port. I've seen with other devices and the hd2, the usb cable has to be at a certain angle for it to work, not that moving the usb cable around while plugged in is recommended, you have to be very careful and delicate. But you can try that. OR not that I know very much about this, but, maybe its an OS driver issue? it happened to my sd card reader on my windows 7 laptop, just a thought, trying to give you some ideas, sorry i cant be much help in this, good luck!

had this problem on my hd2 euro too.. you need to replace usb prot or buy new mainboard. i got an cheap tmous hd2 so i was lucky^^

It also seems to me a bad USB port...
Replacing it it's the only reliable solution, anything else will be time wasting.

Hermes USB not sync but charging

Ok! it's over a year now that I'm trying to fix this issue (at spare time only) one of my hermes doesn't like to talk usb. It charges fine but no data.
I got 2 hermes and 2 kaisers all fine so it's not down to computers.
I have downgraded the rom to stock original and used few cooked roms also hard SPL olipro first and then one day no more USB.
So from that day I all I tried is to re flashing from sd card again using many stock roms and radios and cooked roms but the USB simply never give a sign... The only thing I have not done is trying to reflash an hard SPL by sd card but I don't know if it's possible... any one can suggest me anything? It's not urgent as you can see it's just because I hate to things broken and most important I hate to not be able to fix something.
I really think it's software problem and not hardware (but I can be wrong here) I would love to ear suggestions.
PS.
Bluetooth sync OK

Not sure why you are so sure it's software not hardware. If different ROMs have been tried and the problem remains then it's probably hardware.
I'd try it on other PCs that have not been previously used to sync any of your other phones and if they show the same result then I'd be even more tempted to believe it's a hardware issue.
Does Active Sync start on connection to the PC?
Have you tried starting the AS program manually on the device?
Are all the necessary parts of AS present? (see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1216804&postcount=1 )
The above having been checked and OK then I would be looking for hardware issues; starting with the obvious:
1
Bent pin in socket (Check with a magnifying glass or loupe
2
Cracked solder joints on the pins at the rear of the socket connecting to the motherboard.
Mike
Thank you for replying.
I should try all those steps this weekend.
The reason is because I have not used that phone a great deal. I was just testing some roms on it and one day the USB stop working. Then I come across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396922 and started to look for something similar for the hermes.
But I also said that I could be wrong and could actually be fiscally damaged with loose connection. But I never opened and security seal still intact. I will wait till I have tried all the software solutions.
again thank you and if you have more to suggest I would love to ear
May have a solution!
i had that problem as well if you go to start, settings, connections then there should be a usb icon or somthing tap that then disable; advanced network functionality. IF the usb thing isnt there it will be in the system settings
hoppe this helps

HD2 Problems with USB, not being recognized, can't enter bootloader

Hello everybody! It's samanen here, a newbie on xda. NOOOB
For first I'd like to apologize my not-so-good english, I'm 15 and from Finland so please keep the point in the problems and forget my english difficulties
Ok, splutting off and let's move to the point here
So I bought my HD2 (used) about two weeks ago, and right away tried to put WP7/android on it and sync music, contacts, videos and other stuff - but my USB connection didn't, and still doesn't work.
Ofcourse I tried reconnecting, cleaning the usb cable and port on the phone, tried another PCs and total of 10 different USB ports, another cable, Mac OS, Win7, WinXP, SyncMate, WMDC, ActiveSync, removing the battery, resetting the phone, removing SD-Card and SIM-Card, ActiveSync, Hard Disk and Faster data sync options, etc etc with no positive result. Its no fun having a mobile device with no access to put media and other stuff on it :/
Specs and facts:
HTC HD2 (aka Leo), non-T-Mobile (EU version?)
Software info:
Os Version : 5.2.21913 (21913.5.0.94)
Manila version : 2.5.20181527.0
ROM version : 3.14.405.2 (04666) WWE
ROM date : 09/29/10
Radio version : 2.15.50.14
Protocol version : 15.42.50.11U
Hardware info:
CPU : QUALCOMM(R) 8250B
Speed : 1024 Mhz
RAM size : 448MB
Flash memory size : 512MB
Enough numbers?
I think I have tried all the stuff I found here... Still no result, can't be detected on my PC. When I connect my phone to my PC, a notification pops up saying that USB device couldn't be detected/recognized, and it may be damaged. 1 second after it popped up it disappears and if I check the devices connected to the pc, there's no undetected devices anymore.. If I'm quick enough to click on the notification, it shows me what devices are connected and their situations, and I can see an undetected USB device there, but if I refresh (reopen) the window it disappears..
Also, if I use the option "When phone is on, do not charge the battery when connected to a PC." and connect to a PC via USB, it STILL does charge the battery. So my hypothesis is that the phone believes it's on a charger/car kit because its not getting recognized as a USB hard disk/device on my PC and still charges as it's connected to PC. Could this be possible in any way?
Also, when I got the phone and put it on the charger, CoPilot popped up every second (I closed it, it opened, etc) and I had to uncheck some option "When connected to a car kit open CoPilot automatically", so another thing there which refers to my phone being a psycho and believing its being on a charger.
I know there are people with this problem, and topics on this forum, but I think my problem is a bit different from theirs and nobody has really got an answer for this..
Then to my second problem. I can't enter Bootloader mode, or Hard Reset mode.
When I hold down the volDown button and press the bootup button, my phone either normally boots up or doesn't even boot up or show signs of booting into bootloader.
Once I got into the bootloader after dozens of tries, but as I'm stupid, I didn't write down the numbers shown there.. And now I seem not to be able to enter bootloader even after 20 tries.. Hardreset neither works. Same plan - either normally boots up or doesn't do anything. Weirdo much? Can anyone help? :/ I think I've bought an useless device..
Thanks,
samanen
Hi man! Try to flash your phone from SD card with stock ROM. Hope you will get good result! Let me know what happens!
Maybe it is your usb cable. I also can not sync with the cable that was delivered with the official carkit. It is just possible to load the device with that cable.
Your bootloader problem could be caused by broken volume buttons. I think they often get destroyed when replacing a broken touch screen. Do they work without problems inside the os?

Hai there! Thanks for your suggestion! What rom version would you recommend? I'm such a noob with these roms etc so I'd appreciate much if you/somebody could tell me what to use I will try that as soon as I find my microSD->SD adapter (Im afraid it got into vacuum cleaner as I cleaned my room ), also I have no idea how that's done but I believe there's a tutorial on xda.

I have tried 2 different cables, one from the package the previous owner provided me and another one from my dad's N97 mini. Could I be so unlucky that those cables are ones that don't work with HD2? I hope I am If you think its about the cable, what cable would you suggest me to get? Just a basic microusb cable from the electonic store? Also the previous owner told me he wiped out all the data and synced the phone before sending it to me WITH the cable provided, so.. Idk Strange.
No, my volume buttons are working great inside the os, I can adjust vol down and up well without any problems. Also my volbuttons are not sticky or feel like broken so I just don't believe that theyre damaged. Also the screen has never got damaged or repaired.
Another problem - Isn't it required to enter bootloader mode when updating the rom? :/
Thanks for both of you for your replies and suggestions, I will keep you updated if anything helps or gets clarified!

Sorry then i can not help you. I do not think it is the cable. I bought one on amazon. It is official htc charging and syncing cable. This just came to my mind because you said that your copilot starts if you plug your phone in....
If you want to install another winmo rom you can do it when connected via active sync and it will automatically go to bootloader. If you want to install hspl for custom roms or android you have to go to bootloader for the installation.

By your info i can say that you have European Model phone. You must firstly check volume buttons, after. Download official ROM by IMEI of you one. As i know sometimes problem in usb connector in phone. I repair some HD2's by replasing usb connector. I living near you) In little poor Belarus))) try this steps and let me know.
Also. If u want i can help you in repair process. Its very simple) i have a big experience with hd2's and iPhones) and other ones. Because i think you boughta bad repaired phone with bad volume buttons and usb connector

Man, do you think they could fix this in warranty/quaranty? I have still warranty left on this one and i think I could get a new one/HD7 in return
Yeah. They must fix it if you dont damaged phone mechanically(maybe previous owner replaced screen) or you dont flash hspl magld android Leo is still The King i think. Here more opportunities than in HD7 On eBay HD7 cheaper than HD2 because WP7 os not good than android let me know whats up!

No, I've never dropped it or anything and when it came from the previous owner the usb didnt work, and he has never replaced anything on this model (his previous model was replaced to this, completely new one because his previous model stopped working with no reason).
Maybe I should contact the warranty Thanks for the answers, let's see what they can do!

I changed my old iPhone 3G 16Gb white, in terrible condition to this HD2 and paid 100€ Yeah android or WP7 would be soo super cool, the customizability is the thing why I chose HD2! It's amazing how there are still developers developing new stuff for HD2, I highly aprreciate their work
Waiting for their reply from the warranty center!
Let me know. Whats going on! And i will help you to install all)

Still no reply, wow. Today I got a message that my phone will be back in two weeks. Slow service.
They also told me, that as the usb is LOOSE when you plug the cable in, it may be my fault. wow. So they're not repairing it for free i quess..
My phone is back..
Ok, got my phone back. The mohterboard has been damaged, they told me it had got wet. That's something what's not under warranty, so they're not repairing it for free. The repair would cost almost 500€ so it's totally not worth it. The report says: USB-Connectiong is loose (from other components), also injury with water in screen and motherboard.
Seems that the last owner already knew it's damaged and sold me a damaged one, as he told me it's working 100%.
So, I don't have a clue what to do next. I think I should try repairing it myself but is it worth it? Or worth trying? Where can i get the parts and tutorials how to do this? I think i gotta only repair the usb thingy but i'm not sure - I'd love to get some help now. Thanks in advance.

I had the exact same problem and it seemed that my cable was loose. You can try repairing it by yourself (it's not under warranty) or trying different pc/cable.
Try this : go to your pc and remove USB driver from application control panel, and after reconnect hd2.
Probably us not a cable problem, but drivers problems.
Bye.

[Q] HD2 Won't Enter USB Flasher Mode in Magdlr

My HD2 running CM7 has been having some problems with its MicroUSB port for a while now. It will only charge if the cable is in a certain position. However I recently wanted to install WP7, so I booted into Magdlr and tried to enter USB flasher mode, but it wouldn't connect to the computer, even when it was in the position that it would charge in, so my flashing kept failing. I'm fairly certain this is a hardware issue, so I don't really know what to do. Has anyone else experienced similar issues? Any ideas what I could do? Thanks.
The USB port in comming loose from the board, it a repair job that you need some skill for
In the UK you can get it done from about £20, or try using the warranty, but it may not be covered as they don't fall off on their own
Most likely what johnerz said, but have you tried using a different USB cable?
had that problem in the past and a different wire solved the issue.

Have you tried a nother USB cable?
Have you tried connecting with a different cable? Are you trying to connect from android or MAGLDR? What do you mean by "adapter"?
Just a couple of questions that might help the community better diagnose your problem.
Also, on that note, you don't need the USB to go back to Windows Mobile, the SD card method is also always availible. Unless of course you wish not to lose HSPL and MAGLDR. Though i realise all of the above is of little use to you currently if you cannot charge your device.
i feel you bro
bro,
i tried everything also the sd card method it did not work out for me.
The only way was just to struggle with the cable in order to charge, it took me alot of time cuz i had to hold the cable the hole time like a statue.
if i moved a little bit i just easily lost the connection with the charging or the usb connection with the pc.
with a lot of effort i managed to install the official wp 6.5 os and remove the hspl.
I just send it for repair to htc so i dont have to worry about it anymore.

yeah thats happened to me. some hd2s have an issue with mini usb port not really being soldered right, so it seems sometimes its "loose" and i remember what time i was flashing a rom, and it just paused and i got an error. im sure you had to hold it a certain way just to get a charge huh? lol
if you have a know how, its pretty easy to solder the usb on real tight, if not just send it in for repair.
ahaha nice man,
But i was holding the whole time the phone with the charger and in the same time i was giving my little sister instruction to start the program to flash an go on. Other wise i would lose the charge opportunity, it was really hard.
yea, theres a thread here that i followed to fix it permanently the first try. was real easy. but glad you got it fixed and returned it to stock

[Q] HTC Trophy battery charging problem

Hello Guys,
i have a problem with my Trophy.
A few days ago it stops charging. Not by usb port from PC or the charger.
I charged the battery externally and the Trophy is working normal.
Windows doesnt recognize the Trophy anymore.
When i go into bootloader menu, Windows does recognize the device,
and i was able to flash ROMs. I tried to flash a few ROMs (now the Touch-IT Trophy v2)
and it flashes without Problem and it runs again.
Just charging isnt working and windows doesnt recognize the device when its normal startet up to WP7.
I tried with diferent Usb cables and PC's. Always the same thing.
Any suggestions what it could be?
Could it be the Vcc pin on the usb port?
Best regards,

My 2nd Verizon Trophy has this issue. I have to get the USB cable "just right" to get it to flash, and it doesn't accept a charge. I haven't replaced or tried soldering the USB port yet, but I bought the phone 2nd hand and the USB port is really worn out. I really have no additional advice for you. :/ If you find out if HTC can fix it, let me know because I want to fix my other phone too.
*edit* Checkout this guide that was recently posted on the front page of xda-developers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856180. Talks about cleaning the USB port out. Might be worth a shot, I know I am going to try it.
Thank you TheXev for your quick answer.
I just found out that the problem in my case is only software.
I idiot set my usb mode to "Diag mode", and that was the source of my problem.
I'm suprised that even a flash of another ROM isnt changing that setting, but ok.
I changed it back to Zune mode and windows does recognize my device, and its charging again.
